I came here after attending the Kentucky Derby this past Saturday and was thrilled with their service. I called them on our way from the track and they helped me determine what time we should set up our reservation for (including Derby traffic). They also let me know that I can let me know if we will be late and they will help us move our reservation to fit our schedule. The host was incredible, she was the same person who answered our call for a reservation and engaged in friendly conversation with us until she had to attend to other customers - and it wasn't awkward small talk either which was great. The waiter came out and got our orders for drinks and appetizers. We got bruschetta, an expresso martini, and a couple glasses of white and red wine. The drinks and appetizer came out quickly and was received well. I personally did not partake in the alcohol or the appetizer due to being gluten-free, but the company I was with really enjoyed it. Just a side note, they have plenty of gluten-free appetizers I just opted to not order one. We then ordered and the waiter was very knowledgeable about what would accommodate my diet. Although the restaurant did not have gluten-free pasta, I was thrilled to have several items I could pick on and had trouble picking between my options. I ended up getting the shrimp scampi with a side of risotto. It was absolutely delightful and I had no complaints about the meal. The best part was when the chef and owner came out to our table to check on how our meal was. He was so very friendly and treated us like family. He's such a joy to be around. Silvio's just might be my new favorite Italian restaurant in Louisville, KY! I will have to go back a second time before I decide for sure but Silvio's produced the best Italian meal I have enjoyed in a long time. The restaurant had been on my "list" for quite some time. It is located a short drive from our downtown home base. We visited on a Monday night and were pleasantly surprised from the start. I had scouted the menu prior to arriving and I knew - unless there was a house special that turned my head completely around - that I was headed for the Seafood Pasta. It wasn't long before we saw the owner/chef Silvio walking around the restaurant. He greeted us warmly and we had a fairly in depth conversation after he found out it was our first meal at his restaurant. He is loaded with personality and very open about his menu. Everything is scratch made with the exception of a couple of desserts. No cause for worry here because I was fairly certain I would not be ordering dessert! The Seafood Pasta was fabulous! I was sure that the picture I saw when scouting Silvio's had exaggerated the quantity of mussels in the dish but it did not! There is as much seafood as pasta. Perfecto! Silvio sent over one of his home made meatballs with some of the best marinara sauce I have had in ages. We had to remember to share the meatball evenly! It was that good. Two in our group ordered the baked ziti which they graciously allowed me to taste. It was super good. The portion was large enough for leftovers and it was properly doused in marinara and loaded with cheese. The decor is pleasant. Parking is ample. I would in the future make a reservation. We did not have a reservation thinking it was a Monday night and we probably wouldn't need it but the restaurant was starting to fill up as we dined. There appeared to be a lot of regulars and several groups stopping in which is always a good indicator of a successful and consistent restaurant. I called to complete a catering order. For a bake Ziti, the OWNER quoted me $150! And then called me out of my name. Very, very dissatisfied and disappointed with the service I just received over the phone. He always cut the conversation short and hung up the phone. When I called back up there for the manager, the lady let me know that it was the owner actually that I'd just spoke too. It's very disheartening for someone of his status to speak to a customer the way he did. If business is not doing well, I certainly can see why because his attitude, professionalism and lack of respect just lost my businesss and I hope others that read this will consider a different Italian restaurant other than Silvo's. Had a great dinner and was very impressed by the wait staff and the proprietor. We had a new waiter which was starting his first night at the restaurant. The proprietor/chef went out of their way to prepare a shrimp Diablo dish that was fantastic! The Caesar salad is one of the best in Louisville and was complimented well with the bread . My fiance' and myself went here in observation of her turning the big 3-0. We ordered mussels for an appetizer, that was a delicious decision as they were buttery and scrumptious. Additionally, the bread that was served was warm, smooth and soft. She ended up ordering the polenta which looked amazing and I ordered the ravioli. Where I would normally try something more adventurous, the ravioli did NOT disappoint. The copious amount of freshly ground parmesan cheese that they put on top most definitely added to the cheesy goodness. I believe that I may have been on the lucky side of things as I were were able to walk in without a reservation and immediately getting seated, I would HIGHLY recommend getting a reservation. read more

The food was fantastic. Mussels were so good and the broth was amazing. Ordered the Chicken Parm. and spaghetti w/ meatball, both which were really good. The reason for the 3 star is solely based on the seating situation I experienced. I made a reservation for 2 and was was sat at a small high top against the wall and the bar is on the opposite side. All would have been fine, had the chairs not been locked into position by the table's on either side. I literally had to sit with small amount of fear that at any given time and elbow was coming to the back(it happened before I left). Same for my friend on the other side. There was no adjusting or moving the chair. There was just enough space to slide into it. The bar area was packed so at one point a customer was trying to squeeze by and her hair sat in the discard plate of mussels for a small second. Bogus! Anyway overall food is above average for Italian around here, but seating is tough if you get a high-top and no room. Last note: they have these mini cannoli's, wicked good. read more

This Italian restaurant is a sure bet when looking to satisfy a pasta craving. My wife and I have been several times and have enjoyed every meal from appetizer to dessert. They will prepare the pasta anyway you like and you can choose whatever sauce you like, they will season it to your taste. The staff is always friendly and Silvio himself likes to come out and check on his guests. They will give you several choices for dessert that will leave you feeling absolutely guilty but happy you indulged. This is another safe bet for a great meal. read more

Looks are deceiving. From the outside this place looks a little rough but once you're inside the environment is very nice and comforting. The greeter was very nice and treated us well. This was our second visit to Silvio's. The first visit was great. The food was amazing and that is the reason for our return tonight. My husband made reservations earlier (this is a must if you want a seat). We were seated at a high top in the rear corner of the bar. Our table and my stool were dirty with dollops of pasta sauce when we arrived. No big deal; I cleaned it up with a cocktail napkin from the table. We ordered calamari and ravioli for apps. My husband ordered a coke and I had a glass of moscato to start. The calamari arrived soaked in grease/oil. My husband accidentally knocked over a glass of ice onto the tabletop. He used his cloth napkin to gather the ice and placed it onto a plate. Seven minutes later a waitress came over to our corner asking if there was water spilled. Apparently there was a "spotter" at the bar who was watching our every move, but not in a helpful way. The waitress who inquired about the water could see the table and floor were DRY. Ironically she didn't offer to bring new napkins or silverware or remove any of the plates from our table or offer to refill the glass that was spilled. After about 40 minutes our meals arrived. My husband ordered the ziti (add chicken) and I had the special that included a rice side. His pasta was swimming in sauce with little meat because instead of adding chicken, they substituted the sausage for chicken. My rice was super grainy and and the fish was tasteless. Our server came back to ask us how everything tastes. We told her not well and asked for the check. This entire time the "spotter " at the bar couldn't take her eyes off of us...and with a constant snarl on her face. We will not waste our date night for another experience at Silvio's. read more

I really can't rate the food even if I heard it was good. I went there on a rainy Thursday night and there were 4 empty tables. I was told it would be an hour and 20 minute wait since I didn't make a reservation. ( like it's a fine dining establishment that you need to ) pft There were 4 empty tables , Really ?? The young Girl said they are all reserved. Yet nobody was waiting and another table was being cleaned off. Also some people were clearly done eating with empty plates in front of them. But at this point I was treated so poorly by the hostess it was ridiculous. Is just not what she said but how she said it and the tone. She recommended that I And my 78 year old disabled mother who is only 4'10 could stand and wait or try to find a seat at the bar. I doubt the rude hostess who recommended a short disabled women stand or try to host herself up on a barstool had any thought other than the one of herself be bothered by possible patrons. Instead of contacting the restaurant for reservation I should contact a group representing disabled people. When I explained my mother was disabled the girl looked completely clueless . I would better train staff not do discriminate and train them not to refer people that are disabled try to flail them self up on a barstool. I don't think I can dine where such ignorance is bliss . I think the girl thought about it a minute and realized how wrong she was when she ran out to give us a card with the number to make a reservation. But she already ruined it for us with this kind of staff I chose not to waste my time. I was trying to be nice and not put how bad the staff was . But when Bill told me to make a reservation when I clearly mentioned that in my notes to make a reservation , this shows me he didn't take the time to read what I wrote. So now I would be scared to even eat here. If I had food allergies and sensitivity when the chef did not read the notes or the server not put them down what would happen to me . No thank you. Guess I will let my DR brother take my mom when he is town since you all threw yourselves at him. Lets also add dress up and be pretentious to get service here. Don't just show up in blue jeans because it was your work at Home day you get from work. The staff looks down upon you if you don't fit in with snooty well dressed St. Matthews people even though you own a home in Indian Hills. Really I'm done with this place. Unless it was a simple apology for the way the hosted behaved and what she suggested and Bill himself takes to READ and apologize for clearly not reading in the first place. We arrived at Silvio's 9:00pm on Friday, 10/18/19. We did not have a reservation but found seats at the bar. We were celebrating our anniversary. First time here and chose Silvio's as they have eggplant parmigiana - the wife's go-to-dish where available.. We ordered our drinks first - the wife a Prosecco and me, the Old Fashioned. The bartender stated "Just so you are aware, our Old Fashioneds are very sweet." I usually drink bourbon straight, but I was in the mood for something different. And boy, was she correct! Very sweet! The owner Bill came out and talked to all at the bar. He asked what we were celebrating and eating. We told him "Our anniversary and the wife is craving eggplant parmigiana". Bill then stated "I am going in back to make sure they make a good eggplant and make you a special dish". The food arrived 20 minutes later and boy was it delicious! We had the greatest restaurant experience tonight at Silvio's. The service was impeccable. All of the folks who came to our table were beyond friendly, attentive, and great salespeople. The food was out of this world. We got the mussels, the caprese salad, the grilled romaine salad, the shrimp & polenta and the aglio et olio pasta. We were celebrating my aunt's birthday. The owner / chef, Bill Mellilo came out and chatted with us. He is incredible and hooked us up with the best cannoli I've ever had. We sat on the *new* back patio and had the greatest time together. Last night was our first time at Silvio's. We have found a new favorite place! The hostess was so helpful and friendly with making our reservation and when we arrived. The owner visited our table a few times to make sure we were enjoying everything. I loved the hospitality here! We started with calamari and a rice ball and they were both very good. My husband and I split the grilled romaine salad, also delicious. I had the pasta with all of that beautiful seafood on top, and it had tons of seafood! Yum! We ordered one rice ball for an appetizer...deep fried and smothered with sauce, yet light enough to open up our pallets for the main course...the seafood pasta - perfectly cooked shrimp, scallops and mussels. They were so flexible to allow the sauce to be marinara instead of white cream sauce. The briny marinara mixed with cheese, translucent seafood and angel hair filled my tum tum as I mopped up all the sauce with their soft, yet crusty bread. During the meal, the chef made a point of visiting all the tables; he was so welcoming and really enjoyed the company of all. You could tell that he was living his passion. We made a point to keep a secret compartment open in our tum tums to fit the chocolate bourbon cake - WOW! Moist, dark chocolate with a hint of bourbon and layered with cream filling. Pure heaven! I've now been here a few times a year for the last almost 4 years, but this review will be for March 2019. The atmosphere is wonderful. There's always laughter and conversation. Our server was patient and offered quite a bit of insight as she skillfully navigated Silvio's menu, guiding us right through our selections. I got the lasagna and meatball (per usual), and my company picked the "fat boy favorite" baked ziti. The tomato sauce is bright yet robust, with a nice acidic finish. The noodles are cooked thoroughly, just past al dente. The meatball was huge and savory, nicely playing with the acidity of the sauce. The portion size is such, that dessert actually is an option. The chef is kind and very welcoming to all his customers, taking the time to chat a bit with the tables. I ordered the Chicken Silvio's.
