I'm no longer ordering this. If they go back to the original recipe, I will update my rating to 5 stars because I miss it! However, their other dishes are great. Pretty good Chinese spot with later hours than most places in this area. Sweet and sour chicken: this was sooooo good! The chicken was incredibly saucy and crispy, and the sauce was well balanced. Loved the inclusion of pineapples. I think about this dish often. Mapo tofu: this is a skip. I was expecting mala/sichuan style mapo tofu but this was the complete opposite. No spice at all, savory... maybe even a little sweet? Not terrible but definitely not what I was expecting. Tofu and vegetables: mainly ordered this for the veggies. Have returned multiple times and it's now one of my fave places to have a good meal when I'm craving home cooked Asian food. Reasonably priced for quite a lot of food too. What's impressed me more is that they will customize a dish if you ask. Last time I heard someone order fried fish so I asked what kind of fish. When they said sea bass, I asked if they could steam it with some soy sauce and green onion. Not only did they say yes, they also said that we could ask for whatever if we couldn't find it on the menu. Let me tell you, this steamed sea bass (5+/5) was so tender and delicious. Took me back to my childhood. I also ordered the eggplant with minced pork (clay pot) (5/5) and this was excellent too. It has a bit of heat but not too much. If you don't like heat, order the regular stir fry version with garlic. Really a hidden gem imo. They get a decent amount of local traffic because they very wisely also run a more westernized menu. Went to drop off some clothing donation at the box near this restaurant and decided to pick up some takeout here. The cashier man/ owner (Mr. Simon?) was really friendly and helpful with orders and the food looked good. Restaurant was about a third filled with people eating and looking happy. Will definitely be back with the good service here and fast take out. You can get some take out TEXAS SIZED Peach Mango tea also that is Sweet and delicious and Togo orders are packed really well! Saw some great reviews so I thought I'd drive 25 mins to try this place. I've seen the Simon's Chinese Restaurant chicken sign on the Dun Huang Plaza for YEARS so my curiosity was piqued. Were they supposed to open at the Dun Huang center at one point? We showed up on a rainy weekend, probably 3 weeks after it opened. It's an odd place to put a traditional Chinese restaurant but we went and it was still their soft opening. Lots of older Chinese patrons inside. My kids are more Americanized so they were scared. Let's get to the food. - Shrimp and vegetables from the American Chinese menu was bland like please pass the salt and pepper please. - Sizzling tofu with pork and shrimp was ok. Nice presentation but food was meh. We prefer the Malaysian sizzling tofu more. - Eggplant with shrimp paste dish which was probably the best thing we ate. Popcorn chicken was tasty. - Spicy fried squid was pure salt. It went well with the bland tofu and shrimp and veggie dish. - Walnut shrimp was meh. Nice big shrimp that tasted of mayo. This was a dish I LOVED in California. We don't do it justice in Texas. The server forgot our Singapore rice noodle dish which is fine since we had so much food left over. The waitress forgot our drink but we got it before we paid. Owner came by to apologize to us for making us wait almost 15 mins to get our order after we sat down. They were busy, we understand. It's very clean and has booths and tables strategically placed for ease of movement. They have lunch and dinner specials (which consisted of mainly imo American Chinese food). They also had value deals which were mainly canton style dishes and HK style. Very happy. (My friend is also from HK) We ordered: Eggplant with minced pork and shrimp paste - comes out piping hot and full of flavor. FULL OF FLAVOR for the people in eh back Pork rib with Chinese radish - also came out hot, the pork was so tender and melted in my mouth, the Chinese radish was cooked perfectly - not too soft but not hard at all and soaked up all the sauce Salt and pepper tofu - I am honestly not a fan of hard fried tofu but these were perfectly cooked, crispy and tender but not dry If you order a specialty drink, they give you a small order of popcorn chicken for free - we were too wrapped up in the other food to eat them The prices were reasonable and the taste and portion were perfect.. I ordered the Special WonTon Soup thru door dash. I received my order and the soup was missing Shrimp and the BBQ Pork. The WonTons were basically just dough folded multiple times with a sliver of some kind of meat- I'm assuming some type of Pork paste or something. Wayyyy too doughy. I was highly upset. The soup broth was also tasteless. It tasted like it was watered down. Of course the restaurant was closed, being that I ordered it around 10 something on Saturday night. I will not do that again. We went to here after reading a review about a "secret" Cantonese menu. When I asked the waitress about it, she laughed and said it's no secret. We met the owner and found out he's from Hong Kong. He said that the braised double pork feet is the popular item on that menu so we decided to try it. It was huge, delicious and flavorful. It's interesting that it came with noodles, which were also delicious. We also ordered green beans with minced pork, mapo tofu, and drinks because they come with free popcorn chicken for their soft opening special (also delicious). The drinks were okay and too sweet. How can I not bring Dad to try out this new Cantonese spot when two Hong Kong friends recommended the same restaurant on the same day, especially since it's owned by a friend we've known for a long time? I haven't heard Dad give such high praise for a restaurant in recent memory, and I wholeheartedly agree with him. As far as Hong Kong-styled Cantonese cuisine goes, just from what we tried, it will be tough to find a better restaurant. The version of Concubine Chicken here is the best in town, served super fresh and warm, unlike other restaurants that prepare the chickens en masse and refrigerate them for easy storage. The flavors are unbelievable - all the spices and the taste of scallops are infused in the skin and meat, so delicious that you don't even need to dip it in the usual Ginger Scallion Sauce that comes with this dish. Dad says it's game over for other places because it's truly above and beyond any other versions we've tried. The well-marinated Braised Pork Knuckles are also ridiculously tasty, with tender meat and silky-smooth skin that falls off the bone - almost too tender. They're exceptionally suited to eating with the side of dry noodles. We can't wait to come back and try other dishes. The portions are generous, and the price is reasonable. The chef is traditionally trained in Hong Kong and worked in prestigious restaurants there. This place will be packed before long once more people know about this new spot, which is still in its soft opening phase. If they can perform consistently, I suspect it will be a top 10 must-visit place in Houston. read more

I came here with my husband after hearing about this place from other Hong Kong foodies. From the outside, the restaurant is an inconspicuous Chinese take out place. It's newly opened, and the interior is what you would expect from any neighborhood Chinese restaurant. The service was on another level, however. We had a chance to talk to three of the owners as well as the waitress, and everyone was incredibly nice and friendly. Despite it being the evening rush, the owners checked on every single table in the restaurant in-between taking to-go orders on the phone. The waitress had a great attitude and was really helpful when we asked her about the restaurant. We ordered a taro milk tea, popcorn chicken, sweet and sour pork, stir fried green beans with minced pork, and a sizzling tofu plate. The portions were generous, and we had plenty of leftovers after eating our fill. Everything came out fast, fresh, and hot. Taste-wise, the cooking style is closer in flavor to authentic grandma-style home-cooking than a more formal restaurant might offer, but that adds to the authenticity and makes it a more nostalgia-laden affair than the average restaurant. Came here today and tried their new Brazilian BBQ menu. It is very good. They got a guy who definitely knows how to do Brazilian BBQ cooking those meat, and serving the meat. I guess they hired him from some other Brazilian BBQ place. My stomach is more than full, and the owner still asked me, "you want more? This is all you can eat! You should eat more!" Came here late last night (around 11pm) for an after study dinner session with a friend. We were greeted very warmly by the owner and staff, and were seated wherever we liked. We were super excited to find a place that would cater to our late night cravings, as there's not a lot of places open late on weekdays. We ordered the braised pig feet (came with a side of noodles), chicken and corn soup, eggplant with minced pork and shrimp paste, and mapo tofu. We also took advantage of their soft opening special where if you order a speciality drink, you can get a free side of popcorn chicken. We got the strawberry milkshake and passion fruit green tea. The strawberry milkshake reminded us of strawberry pocky, so we really enjoyed the childhood reminder. Everything was super delicious, came out hot and we enjoyed everything. The pig feet was super good, heavy five spice flavor, but super tender and fall off the bone. The steamed cabbage that was soaked in the sauce was a nice balance. We didn't know that the pig feet came with noodles, but it complimented the braised meat super well. It was like a dry stir fried noodle with an oyster sauce drizzled on top. The chicken and corn soup was my personal favorite; reminds me of egg drop soup but elevated and it hit the spot perfectly. Would order again. Eggplant w minced meat and shrimp, this was way better than I expected it to be. My friend and I are usually fiends when it comes to eggplant stir fry in any chinese restaurant, and this was no exception. It was so flavorful, and the shrimp paste flavored the eggplant dish so well. A real rice thief dish! The mapo tofu was also very good, not too spicy but spicy enough to leave a good taste. Tried this Cantonese place right outside of chinatown. We ordered the popcorn chicken, steamed chicken with ginger sauce, the calamari, mappo tofu and beef stew. The calamari was a bit too soggy and spicier than I like, so 2*. The popcorn chicken, steam chicken and mapo were good 3*, the winner was the beefstew, enjoyed that with the dry noodle 4*. It's a good place, so please give them a try, would go during lunch, as the area feels a bit sketchy at night. Personally thought it deserved a 3.5, as the service was good. The food was comparable to any Chinese take out restaurant which is why I can't understand such high ratings. The service was not great - was hung up on first time I called to place my order. They couldn't find my order when I got there. Finally, they didn't know what sate sauce (chile oil) was! How can you not know sate when you're working in a Chinese restaurant? Mine was a take out order but it's not an inviting place to dine in imho. I like to support new small businesses and I may go back but it's definitely not anything I would rave about. We went last night to try this new Cantonese place after a few friends highly recommended to me. We ordered 8 dishes and I like most of them especially the Beef Tripes Pot. Highly recommend the Beef Tripes Pot. But the Gui Fei Chicken was very disappointing since I heard chicken was their specialty. I would say wasn't even average compare to normal standard from other Cantonese restaurants. Sizzling Tofu was tasty, the pork knuckles noodles was good and portion was huge. The fried pork intestines were very thick and too chewy we only can eat half of it. And I do have a few complaints from my first visit. First, I was trying to order more different dishes to try and there were 6 of us so I tried to order 8 things. There were at least 5-6 things out of the menu was either told at the time was sold out or was told later it was sold out. With their very small limited menu, the choices became even more limited. And it was just about 6pm which is dinner time for a restaurant kinda just started. Second, not sure where most of the food were premade or what, they were not Hot. They were more like warm. Soups were usually served very hot, and the soup I got was just warm. Like if I wear my glasses it won't even fog up my glasses types of warm. Third, the service really needed improvement. With the number of tables compared to the number of workers at the floor the service was bad. We had to tell four different server to just get a cup of water for my toddler daughter. Then we got an empty Styrofoam cup after telling the fourth person. And that was after 10 mins from the first time we asked. Then we finally got the water we wanted for my daughter. And asked multiple times just to be able to get a few napkins. Fourth, it was packed last night and literally was out the door packed. I was standing outside and it was full of homeless walking around the parking lot. Luckily It was still pretty bright at the time, otherwise I wouldn't waited there. (we would have left). I love the food here. Great American Chinese food. I order out at least once a week because the prices are very reasonable and the servings are big. If I had one piece of advice for the owners, it's that it's often very, very very warm in the restaurant, which is why I always get takeout and don't eat at the restaurant. other than that, I have nothing negative to say the employees are always very friendly and prompt. Ok where do I start!! I stop by here because I got an alert from Yelp all about the rave reviews for this new Cantonese spot! I also order sweet and sour pork with fried rice, which I rarely order a sweet dish from a Chinese restaurant. The fried rice was bland and nothing to it! The pork was so chewy n fatty! I couldn't consume most of it. The flavor of the sauce was ok. I also order the stir fry green beans with mince pork! It was ok but too much shrimp pasted in it. Made it a bit overwhelm to eat it. Ok my second visit I order the salt n pepper pork chops, so damn dry and old tasting. It didn't taste fresh at all. Some pieces I couldn't even chew! It was very dry n hard to chew! I also order angus steak with tomato rice and friend egg!! The angus steak was ok, but the tomato fried rice was disgusting old and not fresh!
