Came over in 10 minutes, changed two door locks, and when I told him I didn't have cash on me would he take a credit card, he said "don't worry about it. Simon came in to my office last week and was AMAZING! My boss has a vending machine and we needed to replace the lock since the tubular key was lost. We called that morning and in a few hours he was in the office drilling out the lock so we could use it right away. He then went out and found another lock that would fit, brought it back and installed it and did not ask to be paid until the entire job was done. I live in Northern California and needed to find a locksmith to change the locks for my 76 year old mother. Someone was continuing to break into her apartment and taking things. I needed to find not only a reliable locksmith but someone who was patient and understanding. On top of being stressed out, my mother can be a bit high strung. She hadn't been sleeping and it was beginning to take a toll on her health. I turned to Yelp and based on all the glowing reviews, decided to give Mr. Val a call. He was an angel! I explained to him the situation and he first asked me a series of questions about my mother's predicament to see if there were other ways we could take care of the problem, something other than changing her locks. I was struck by his honesty and his sincere interest in helping my mother, to the point that he was willing to loose business. We spoke for a very long while and we both decided that changing the locks was the best choice. I had to arrange some tricky scheduling with Mr. Simon while I was still in Northern California. He was so accommodating and helpful. I couldn't have asked for better service. In the end, the locks were changed, no further break ins have been reported by my mother and she has her sanity and health back. His work was top notch. My mother also remarked how patient and kind he was. I am still touched by Mr. Val's kindness and honesty. I have found that it is very rare to find this kind of attention from a merchant. I wrote a review in early December 2010 that apparently was removed, but I don't know why since I was respectful (the review was unfavorable, but I wasn't rude), and I didn't violate the Terms or Guidelines of the website. Hopefully this second attempt won't be filtered because I think Yelp readers should know I had a negative experience and cannot recommend this locksmith. I told him I needed my locks changed between 8 a.m.-12 p.m., he showed up at 11:45 and stayed until 2. I asked him for the price before hand, he told me it was $15/lock and I said "Okay, $150 total" and he then charged me nearly $250 at the end. He also tried to charge me $8 for charging by credit card, although he hadn't mentioned the charge when I asked him over the phone if I could pay by credit card. read more

He fixed it in a few minutes and then fixed a very very old door lock that hasn't worked in years, Then he took apart a few more locks and made them all work from the same key... without having to change any of the locks! This is embarrassing, but I used Simon's services not once but twice in the past month. The 2nd time is not only because I'm an idiot who made the same mistake twice, but more importantly I called Simon again because he was so helpful and kind the first time. So in December I had a Budget moving truck and I arrived at my apartment building and hopped out and slammed the locked door, with the key sitting on the seat staring at me. I called AAA but they wouldn't help me with a private company's vehicle. Budget's roadside assistance wouldn't help because they didn't consider locking the keys in the car an emergency, like a flat tire or accident. So finally I got on my phone, looked on yelp, and eventually discovered Simon. It was 11pm on a busy Saturday night in the middle of Hollywood, but Simon arrived within a 1/2 hour. And he is a magician with the tools, opening the lock within 15 seconds. He chatted with me and shared some war stories, and charged me a very fair $95 for immediate assistance in the middle of the night. Flash forward to this past Thursday night, and I was on my way to meet a special lady friend for drinks. I was super early, so I stopped by Ralph's to pick up a pack of gum. In the parking lot I opened the trunk, threw in some stuff from the back seat, and for some reason laid my keys in the trunk as well. Obviously my next move was to slam the trunk with the keys inside. Immediately I called Simon. He remembered me and came out as soon as possible. Simon is a really nice guy who is good at what he does, you should definitely call him if you ever have any locksmith needs. Oh, and one more tip... Don't put your keys in your trunk, ever. I used Simon yesterday to re-key the locks and fix deadbolt alignments on a home purchase just five hours after title transferred to my name. He was amazingly flexible, available to receive a callback once I knew the deal had closed. Once I confirmed, Simon came within an hour. Both on the phone and in person, his priorities in order of importance clearly were right. They are: 1) Simon does the lock work that you need in the best and less expensive way possible, and throws in some extras just because he's a great guy. 2) Teaches you some repair, technique and maintenance tips along the way, so your locks will stay in good shape and you can maybe fix what doesn't on your own. 3) Keeps you happy, entertained and stress-free during the process by telling stories about his interesting past and discussing interesting subjects. 4) Suggests that you feel free to call at any time with questions or concerns about your locks. 5) Asks for a wonderfully reasonable fee for his services, in whatever payment form the client prefers. 6) Accepts tips graciously, and without any hint of a suggestion that he automatically deserves them (which of course he does). Simon was the best locksmith i've ever hired. I work in an office and one of my coworkers locked themselves out of their office without a key. I called Simon at 7pm and was dreading waiting all night for him to get here but it ended up only taking him 35 minutes. He opened the door right away and then offered to have that lock match the keys I had for the other offices to make our lives easier. Checked my locks and what I needed to get done and told me that he would be back after 3 pm the same day with the keys.
