4.25 stars. Steps to Having a Good Time at Simone: 1. Go to two art shows beforehand and drink for free. 2. Continue your wine buzz at numerous bars throughout the Rice Village. 3. Rent out the private room at Simone and order a bunch of wine and food. 4. Meet a bunch of Lebanese people partaking in the same. 5. Repeat. It's rather fortunate I no longer live in Houston because there is approximately a zero percent chance that I wouldn't end up making stupid decisions that stem from drinking multiple bottles of wine at Simone. While this is certainly more of a laid back venue and not especially tolerant of drunks, a couple of my friends thankfully seem to have somewhat of a free pass on that. This is where I engage in the wine version of blackout drinking and end up closing down a lesbian bar where two people are copulating on the pool table and then waking up the next morning in a nearby townhouse with the remainder of half-eaten Venezuelan arepas by my side. You don't need to be that person and I don't suggest that you become that person. Just be the person at Simone that loves their wine, nibbles on good food, and soaks in an underrated scene. The place is nice, but when it's getting crowded there "Network events" you don't wanna be around. My first time I was in date, and they had a Network event and we had to leave because they where really loud. If you planning to visit that place, make sure they are not busy, or they holding a network event. But over all it's seems like a nice place for class of wine. read more

Hands down my favorite bar in Houston thus far!! Let me do this one as a list --Happy Hour until 8PM even on Saturdays. Wow. --The happy hour menu has $15 bottles of wine --Large, outdoor wooden patio deck that is shaded with umbrellas, trees and best of all honeysuckle all along the fence which gives an amazing fragrance --The interior has dark wood, exposed drop light bulbs and turquoise touches on the paint. Insanely gorgeous. --They make truffle oil popcorn. Yum. --Cocktail list is awesome and includes classics like French 77 --Very casual, laid back atmosphere but people do tend to lounge and get work done (Rice University is in the area) so be aware that it may get crowded --The owner is drop dead gorgeous --Beware of parking because the city of Houston does tow. Carefully watch the signs for this. --You are going to really like this place read more

I think this place is pretty darn adorable and it's one of my favorites in the Rice Village area. Which is significant because I don't care much for most alcohol peddling establishments in the Village. Simone is a little reminisce of Boheme, but injected with a tad more sophisticated and is more limited in space. It's not very clearly marked, but look for an arch of vines and smattering of tiny lights and be mindful where you park. The patio area is quite charming, but tends to fill up quickly during the nicer evenings. There inside offers some random seating coves and more secluded room - probably pretty perfect for date night, I'm just saying! There's two unisex restrooms that are nicely maintained and yes, that sort of thing matters to me because I'm a civilized lady, okay? I would say the crowd mainly comprises of late twenties and up, which I certainly appreciate. There's certainly a more "intimate" type of feel, although we couldn't help but laugh about the 90's rock/alternative music blaring the last time we visited - probably just trying to appeal to Simone's demographics. There's a fair amount of fancy pants specialty cocktails and nicer imported wines and the mixologist/bartenders have yet to offend me with terribly service or poorly concocted drinks. There's also a limited menu of pizzas and appetizers that I've yet to sample myself. I believe there is a Happy Hour, but when it's not Happy Hour - the drinks aren't exactly "bargain." I mean but really, I'm totally down to shell over a few more dollars per drinks to insulate myself from the rowdy Baker Street scene a few blocks over. I am fond of the cozy, nearly sedated mood of Simone on Sunset and if you're an old fart like me, seeking a couple of well-crafted beverages in relative peace, perhaps you should check out the place. read more

I've been to Simone on Sunset now a handful of times and I really do like it, mainly thanks to its spacious patio and friendly service. On the plus side, it's an attractive little spot, particularly quiet on week nights, with a very helpful staff of bartenders. They offer a nice selection of wine and cocktails that, while not super cheap, are moderately priced. The atmosphere is laid back and mostly quiet. There is a decidedly older crowd owed to the West U neighborhood surroundings. Most of the patrons I've run into there have been nice and good spirited. On the middling side, the food is average and probably a little pricey for what they offer. Also, parking can be a challenge, but that's to be expected with the location. On the negative side, and maybe this is just me, but I'm bothered by the sign on their internet jukebox that reads "No hip hop and R&B or any other offensive music." As my girlfriend and I were sitting on the patio recently listening to crappy lounge electronica, I said to her, "To me, THIS is offensive." Look, I understand if you don't want people coming in there and throwing down some South Park Mexican, but how is Marvin Gaye or Stevie Wonder a problem? If you really don't want people making those choices, ditch the lame internet music machine and program the music yourselves. It would solve a lot of problems. Overall, I like Simone. It is a particularly appealing place on Sunday evenings or weeknights. It's not the cheapest place and the music thing is kind of ridiculous, but it's a nice, quiet place to have a glass of wine or a cocktail. read more

The atmosphere: It's like walking into Secret Garden! The entry way is very welcoming and charming with quaint patio furniture and sprawling vines that embrace the outside area. As you walk in, you are welcomed by the smiling faces of the bartender and host (which I believe may have been the owner!). You can't help but just smile back! Indoor seating is ample with comfortable couches and tables. The lighting is dim, neither too dark nor bright, which suits the whole "loungey" feel of the establishment. The food: They are known for their STEAK NIGHT and boy oh boy... it's delicious! What I love about this place is the variety of steak cuts and meats that they offer during steak night on Thursdays. You are able to choose between Ribeye, Filet, and Chicken. The sides offered vary week to week. During my last visit I had the rib eye which was cooked and seasoned to perfection with their STELLAR mashed potatoes (not the kind that comes from a box!!!) I give this place TWO THUMBS up and will definitely come back! I believe they also have a pretty good happy hour! read more

Simone on Sunset--right down to the too cool for school name--is about as close to Austin's Rainey St as it gets for Houston. For now, anyway. It's located smack dab in the middle of a neighborhood just outside Rice Village. It draws a diverse crowd from collegians to sugar daddies to plain ol' yuppies like me. During regular drinking hours (i.e., non-happy hour), drinks are simply too expensive here. That feeling turns it away from being a true dive bar; perhaps neighborhood bar is a more apropos term. The vertical squeeze interior lends an air of familiarity, assuming you ignore the naked lady abstracts on the wall. Meanwhile, the patio is far more forgiving, if slightly less intimate. It's perfect for spring and fall evenings. Cocktails (judging from friends' responses, not mine) are solidly made but not spectcular, harking a place like Grand Prize Bar. The beer menu is good, with a few unique craft and imports mixing amongst the regulars. The wine list is extensive, and I've seen the older crowd order by the bottle. The wife would shiv a hipster and dispose of the body for another order of truffle fries. There's other things on the bar menu, I guess. read more

I can't say there are no positives at all. The drink I eventually got (a Sazerac) was fairly tasty, and the room is attractive and nicely appointed. I also like the idea of having a bar in an otherwise quiet part of West U, and it looked like a nice place to bring a new girl/boyfriend or date. So that's all good. But the service: oh, the service. My very simple Sazerac took almost a half hour. My companion's drink was forgotten,and then when it arrived, was something else entirely. We couldn't be bothered to stay for another round. And while I didn't try the pizza, I saw it, and I'm really not sure why a lounge pizza should cost either $15 (cheese) or $20 (smoked duck). An odd place. I suppose I would give it another shot, but not when the bartender we had is around. read more

Check in on yelp and get free parmesan truffle popcorn! DELISH. That stuff is so addicting. They have happy hour daily until 8 PM. There's no food included for hh specials but beer is $1 off and wines by the glass are $5. We had the margarita and meaty (can't remember the name) pizzas. The margarita was quite tasty with a crust that wasn't too thin, and not too thick. I liked the sweetness of the tomato sauce. I enjoy their burger nights. Real big, fat, and juicy. Parking is tricky so if you're lucky, you'll get one of the 3 spots in front. Service is so nice and attentive. They leave bottles of Off on every table on the patio to keep those mosquitoes away. read more

Horrible experience 2 out of 3 times. The first time was pleasant, sitting on a cool patio with a blanket drinking Dingos (half frozen sangria, half something else..I forgot). Second time I took several work friends for late night on a Friday - they were out of Dingos bc their machine was broken. Then they were out of the wine we selected, and finally when I left my wallet behind, the staff claimed the next day it wasn't there. Their website says it is open on Sunday yet nobody answered the phone and when I drove by, there was nobody there in the afternoon. Seems odd to be missing out on Sunday afternoon business. Needless to say I spent a long day in January at the DMV replacing my drivers license that I KNOW was left on the counter at this place. Third time - shame on me for giving it another try- was for a friends bday tonight, June 10. Someone tried to tell my friend it would be $350 to reserve the back room and that it was already booked anyway. When she showed up at 6pm with cupcakes, no one was in the back room and we were able to congregate back there ... for free. When we weren't waiting forever at the bar for drinks & orders, that is. One bartender, one barback for over 30 people in the bar. They were out of hummus even though the barback said they had it, the bartender later corrected him. I placed a drink order and two people after me got their drinks. She had obviously forgotten to make mine. A friend who had ordered a burger and didn't receive it went to check at the bar and they had forgotten her order too. Except now they had RUN OUT OF BEEF. AND FRIES. Seriously, kindergarteners could run this place better. Management should be ashamed of themselves for running such a poor establishment that is constantly out of food and drink. This is not a food truck. It is a prime example of not taking pride in your work or product. I feel sorry for whoever Simone is. This place is a disgrace to your name. Quick tips: Great wine bar with delicious pizza. Beware - you won't find it on the first try. I've been here twice and still can't figure out where it is because it is in a small house without a proper sign. It's worth the hunt though. Great happy hour! $5 for house wine and $15 for a bottle. Food: Get the Goat cheese pizza! DELICIOUS. I also love the truffle parmesan popcorn, but I feel that $7 for popcorn is a little pricey. Service: Great service, even when busy. Ambiance: Cute, casual yet trendy feel. Come here on a casual date or to hang out with friends. Great outdoor and indoor area. Have been here twice and have had a wonderful experience, both times! Really cute and intimate atmosphere. Perfect for a date, outing with friends, girls night, etc.! Came specifically for their Thursday night, Steak Night. (They have other daily specials, check out their website for the days) It is pricier than some other establishments around town that have the same type of deal, but I think with the atmosphere it's worth the extra price. Ordered: Ribeye steak that comes with oh-so-creamy-and-delicious mashed potatoes, grilled carrots, grilled onions. The only bad thing, the carrots were not cooked all the way. (Don't worry, it's forgivable). Bottle of house cabernet sauvignon (off of the HH menu). Really delicious for the price. Pleasant surprise! read more

After a satisfying dinner, my best friend and I dropped by Simone on Sunset for a quick drink. She's been here in the past and swore to me that I would fall in love with this place. And lo and behold, I absolutely did! From the moment I walked in, I loved how beautifully this place was set up. Especially at night, the sultry intimate atmosphere they've created. But it's not a date place exclusively. Seems a perfect spot for a girls night out too. The happy hour is great, especially for the fact it lasts till 8pm! I got the glass of the house Pinot Grigio for only $5 (bottle $15). Unfortunately, I didn't try any of the food. I'll definitely be back to try some of the food. Parking is practically non-existent so I recommend carpooling to save some trouble. The service was pretty good...the waitresses were pretty swamped with the amount of people that night, but they seemed to managed. All in all, this is a great spot for drinks, whether it's with your significant other or a group of friends. read more

Frustrated that the owner has replied to my review with a lie. We were told to sit anywhere we wanted, so we sat at a table with no markings on it. Then the owner said, and I quote, "we are going to move you to make room for a bigger party." It wasn't a question, it was a command. And the table absolutely was not reserved! Despite all the positive reviews, my experience there last night was very frustrating. Not sure if it was just an off night, or if the service there is consistently bad. The first thing you need to know is Simone only has five parking spaces, six if you count parking on the curb in front of the building. So if you're not one of the lucky six people to show up first, be prepared to scour the streets for a spot or search the company website to see which of the area businesses won't tow your car if you park in their parking lots. Secondly, the food was tasty, but very limited options and overpriced. $20 for a small pizza seems a bit extreme to me. I wish I could say the wine was a selling point, but since the waiter didn't take my order until 45 minutes after we sat down and didn't ever bring me my wine, I don't know. After an extra 30 minutes of waiting, I finally told him to cancel my order. I was there with four other girls and between us we ordered a pizza, brie with caramelized onions, a cheese plate, a beet salad and the truffled popcorn. Everything tasted good, but the portions were really small. I left very hungry, went home and had a sandwich. Overall, we were there for 2 1/2 hours, during which time the waiter came by our table a total of three times. We had to ask for drinks, water, forks, napkins, the check, etc every time we needed something. I hope it was just an off night or an off waiter, but I won't bother to go back. read more

Ford and ambience is average however my reasons for the low score is that my valeted car was towed during my family dinner celebrating my daughter's Medical School graduation. I have been looking for this place for AGES. I live in the area, and every time I would pass its supposed location, I would never see it. Simone on Sunset is tucked away between two other small businesses without any real signage out front. Thankfully, we were walking this time and really paying attention, otherwise I'm sure I'd miss it again. This place is pretty small, with some seating outside, next to the bar, and in a room in the back. We would up sitting in the back room which was quiet and perfect for catching up with some old friends. The bartender kept checking on us to make sure we had enough to drink or eat. The truffle Parmesan popcorn was pretty good - but nothing can't be recreated at home. I would definitely come back if I wanted a relaxed place to hang out with some friends - it's definitely a neighborhood bar that's great to go to. read more

I've been here several times for happy hour. The drinks are pretty solid but food is pretty limited here. My options tonight were various cheese plates and small pizzas that were about $20+. I would say that the burgers they have for $8 on Mondays are excellent. The bartender rubbed me the wrong way tonight which is why I did not rank it 3 stars. She pressed my friend and me to pay cash when we closed our tabs by saying "I can take your cash when you're ready" or "You can change it from cash if you want." I noticed there was an extra charge on my already overpriced pizza and politely inquired about it. Her tone was a bit condescending, saying that because I was attending the large happy hour in the private room, it was an automatic gratuity charge. Forget that my group decided to host their event there which encompassed nearly 20 people ordering many many drinks from their bar and bringing it to a private room. So yes, please charge me a fee so that you can bring me a pizza 10 feet away. read more

Simone on Sunset is the perfect laid-back wine bar. Nestled in a house on Sunset, there is a nice patio out front and a great indoor bar area with some high cocktail tables and a couple of couches and low tables with regular chairs. Options for anyone and everyone. They are a full service bar with a great beer list and liquor permit. They have great specials and happy hour is until 8 pm (great for those of us that work!) My friend and I went on a Tuesday night and had two glasses of happy hour wine each, a pizza, and the blue cheese popcorn. The pizza was delicious and the popcorn was interesting. I'd like to see smaller chunks of blue cheese and some spicy season salt to make it more interesting. Our bill was $42. Awesome. I'll take 2.5 hours at a wine bar in Houston for $21, plus tip! They also had Fusion Taco truck there, which looked delicious. This is definitely a place to check out. read more

You will know why 2 stars I like the place, the vibe and the environment, i appreciated the painting placed on the walls, though they were random, but you can tell someone has a taste in some of those paintings , the drinks are good, i got a whiskey based cocktail which was good, then had 12 y Macallan on the rocks which is usually my finale, my friend ordered sangria... and that was good too. we were enjoying our drinks and our bar tender Amanda was awesome, very courteous , friendly , we even carried conversations since the place was not busy and it was thursday night, and David came out asking us what kind of music we would like ... and he gave some recommendations regarding food that we may try the next time. So far so good, and we would stayed longer but we decided to wrap up ... and here is why 2 stars, while we were there i'm not sure if it was the owner or the manager or someone that runs the place was yelling on the phone and cursing very loudly with heavy accent and not paying any respect to the people in the bar, another person which apparently also works or manages something there was upset and started kicking the bar stand.... the bar tenders were quiet and their eyes were rolling .... and you can tell they were embarrassed. Dear manager /owner / whoever was acting like that.... you have a good bar, good location and amazing staff... show some respect to them, your place and your clients... i hope by the time i go back to that bar... things would be better read more

We went to Simone because we were following good dog hot dog. We walked up to this place and felt instantly surrounded by douches. The people inside seemed to think this bar was really swanky-it wasn't at all. I usually love dives that try to be a little classy/hip. It's sad and loverly all at the sometime, but this one wasn't. Maybe if the artwork wasn't so bad-maybe if the people inside were different. Maybe if the drinks were better...maybe.... I ordered one of the cocktails but it was rather forgettable. They serve pizza but we as I said before were after the hot dog food truck. Everyone inside seemed above having hotdogs but then they ordered pizza-so I'm not sure what the difference is. read more

What a hidden gem! I met a few friends here and was only able to find it after I started walking the street. Small building (probably a former house) on the north side of the street. The layout is fantastic - a very nice patio and some inside seating with a nice bar. The happy hour specials are really nice - a $5 glass of sauvignon blanc was just the right pair with the Napa pizza, which is fantastic! The smoked duck pizza, though, is frankly out of this world. The flavors, combined with the slices of pear on top and the sweet sauce base (really want to know what this is) all combines to more-than-adequately meet my savory tastes! Doggie friendly. They have water bowls out and even give you a treat to give to your pooch. I LOVE dog friendly places. The cocktails are quite good. The pamplemousse cocktail was very refreshing, but not strong (enjoyed it but wish it had more 'kick'). The thing that is on fire was much stronger, and very different. The glasses of house wines are the standard - chardonnay, merlot, etc. I was hoping for a Malbec or something more adventurous for wines by the glass. Sadly, they only sell their non-standards by the bottle. Their food is OK. The pizza says "imported from Italy" -- I assume they are joking or mean the dough. The manly pizza was too manly. The cheese and the meat was just too strong. But the hummus was nice (with truffle oil!) and the pear salad was tasty. Even though we were the only ones outside and there was only one server, the service was still attentive. They were nice to my dog. The suck -- good luck trying to find parking (they list an extensive places of "safe" places, and places that will tow you no matter what). Seeing places like these thrive even without a parking lot is kind of amazing. Overall -- stick with the cocktails and the finger foods. Bring your doggie. I loved this place from the moment I walked up to it! My coworkers and I decided to check this place out for a mid-week happy hour. The outdoor patio was so cute! It had just rained and it was super muggy outside, so we decided to sit indoors, but each table was equipped with bug spray to make your dinner more enjoyable! Nice touch! Happy hour has $5 glasses of house wine or $15 for a bottle. 3 of us split a bottle and each got about 2 glasses a piece, so it was more coat effective that way. I tried the asparagus and asiago tips from the $5 happy hour food menu, but it only came with 3 asparagus things, which I didn't think was worth it. My friend got the truffle Parmesan popcorn WHICH WAS AMAZING! The decor and scene were great. I loved the art on the walls, and our service was great! I definitely will go back! read more

Simone on Sunset is a place you would drive past everyday, thinking it was just another house in the neighborhood. Once you find it, however, you'll be pleasantly surprised. It's has a cozy and laid back feel and a great happy hour. $15 house bottles of wine? Yes, please! Along with their stable hh items, each day has a different additional special: - Monday: Gourmet Burger Night ($8 beef, turkey, or boca) - Tuesday: Sangria Night - Wednesday: Pizza Night ($10 mushroom, goat cheese, or chorizo pizza) - Thursday: Steak Night (Filet $20, Ribeye $18 or Chicken Breast $15) The staff is very nice and friendly, but service does get pretty slow after they initially come talk to you. One the coolest most laid back wine bars in the city. My buddy has been trying to get me to meet him here for weeks and I finally relented one night after I stopped in at the big easy. You want outside patio? They got it. Cozy bar atmosphere? They got it. Semi - private room for group? They got it. Sure, this place gives the appearance of an above average wine bar but they do have full spirt service as well as snacks and good food. Darkish, intimate, festive, you got to check this place out if you are anywhere near the area. Oh, and dont forget to try the truffle popcorn. read more

They have PImm's Cup (make a pretty dang good one too), Mint Julep's, Manhattans...all the good stuff. This is a small place but it was a great place to chill and have a couple of drinks. Simone on Sunset is a charming, tucked away spot that's great for happy hour with the girls. I love to sit on the patio (around sunset, ironically) and order a Dingo (not the one that ate your baby, the one that's a frozen mimosa with wine.) The truffle popcorn is not bad, and good for a snack during happy hour. Could use more truffle. Or less truffle, I'm not sure which. Occasionally they also have a food truck, which is very awesome of them to allow. I've had the duck pizza; it's good but not an absolute must-order. I come here for the drinks and the atmosphere. Trying to park there is odd and difficult, so I prefer to go during off times to get a good space though. Definitely love it, but I stay away on weekends. read more

I'm posting this review possible a little early, given I have yet to eat the food at this place. But I just loved it SO MUCH I can't wait to post! Headed here while my girlfriend was in town visiting for some pre-dinner drinks. The one thing I will say is that parking is confusing as all get-out... as is finding this little gem for the first time. Just know that if you're driving around in a neighborhood but you see the little signs that say "Simone on Sunset parking", you are, in fact, in the right place! I still do not understand the signs... there was a sign next to an eye doctor's office, so we parked in the parking lot there... and then realized upon entering Simone's that the eye doctor was on the list of places that will tow you for parking there. My advice: just find street parking. The ambiance of this place is adorable! I love the interior, but I have to tell you--the outside area stole my heart. Wooden benches/tables, little lanterns and perfect lighting... when Houston's weather cooperates, as it did the night we went there, the outdoor seating is divine. They have happy hour until 8pm EVERY NIGHT. Um, hello amazingness!!! I love that it is a bar setup with an excellent wine list, and the wines that my husband and I had were both delicious, which is not always the case with wine on the happy hour menu! The bar staff was a little slow because they were busy--so if I had one suggestion, it might be to remedy that, but overall, it was such a lovely experience. MONDAY NIGHT BURGER NIGHT. If not the burger, then get the duck pizza. I tried their thursday steak night last week, nah... get the burger on mondays. Dingos are awesome (for those who likes frozen drinks), otherwise they make lots of other yummy cocktails. All their drinks are good. Cheap wines during happy hr. Get here around 5:30 though, so you can get a table in the cute little patio - great atmosphere for chilling on a date or small group of friends. Simone on Sunset has to be one of my favorite bars in Houston--and judging by the packed crowd, I'd say other people have the same idea. It definitely attracts the young professional, West U yuppie crowd, but still has a laid back (yet classy) atmosphere. And if the weather's nice, be sure to sit outside on the patio. (The inside's a little on the dark side.) Also, the management and waitstaff have always made the extra effort to ensure you're happy (though the service may be a little slow when it's crowded). The best part about Simone on Sunset has to be the awesome happy hour deals--which, as others have mentioned, go 'till 8! Really, who can turn down $5 glasses and $15 bottles of house wine (that's usually fairly good). There's also an extensive list of cocktails, but I'd recommend sticking to the wine. I've never eaten a full meal there, but there are some great appetizers to go with your drinks. The truffle oil popcorn is AMAZING, and the hummus plate is better than the one the average wine bar makes. The cheese plate is fairly standard--nothing spectacular. The flatbread pizzas look great as well; I'll need to try them next time. If you're ever working late and miss regular happy hour, head over to Simone on Sunset. My friends and I have been going here for the past couple of years and it remains one of our favorite happy hour spots. First of all, their happy hour goes until 8 pm which is a feat in itself. Under happy hour prices, they have about 3 red and 3 white wines at $5 a glass or you can just purchase those bottles for $15 (obviously the smarter decision lol). Also, while its decently busy every time we've gone there, it's not too packed to the point where you have to shout over people to be heard. The crowd is more mature than that of Washington/Midtown (probably mid-twenties and older) which is refreshing and the service has consistently been great too. I'm in love with their truffle popcorn which is extra delicious and each of their pizzas of great too. They have steak night on Thursdays and they give you great sized portions that are super delicious. Unless you know to look for it, its a little harder to find when you drive down sunset since it's set back from the street. You enter through a great outdoor patio with lots of tables, benches, big umbrellas and twinkly lights. They just recently added a new second room inside which makes indoor seating great too. Whether or not you're just coming for a date or with a large group, this place is one of my favorites. read more
