Reuben sandwich with sweet potato fries upgrade

They have a nice selection on their menu. We ordered the Monte Cristo sandwich and a Reuben sandwich. We inquired whether the Reuben sandwich bread would be soggy or wet. The waitress informed us it would not and it wasn't. I did not think to ask whether the Monte Cristo sandwich would be soggy because I was thinking of the Monte Cristo sandwiches Bennigan used to have which were deep-fried. My sandwich bread was definitely wet and soggy, which spoiled the sandwich. The sweet potato fries were good, although they did not look like the picture we saw. Ours were thicker than the slim sweet potato fries displayed. But they were nice and crispy. Our server was kind, friendly and helpful. The service was prompt. The only disappointment was the condition of the bread on the Monte Cristo.

My sister and I met a coworker for breakfast at Simon's a few days ago because I figured there'd be something on the menu for us all. Plus, old-school diners are usually a safe bet. We walked in and were greeted immediately by a pleasant gentleman who also seated us. My coworker and I both ordered cream of chicken rice soup, which we enjoyed. It was a little watery, but otherwise tasty. I also ordered a grilled cheese and ham sandwich. I assumed the ham would be bone-in, but it wasn't. It was something in between bone-in ham and deli ham. The ham was greasy and not very good. I removed it from the sandwich and tried to eat the grilled cheese, but I couldn't because the bread was too soggy. I took a few bites and pushed the food aside. The waitress assumed that I wasn't hungry and brought me a to-go container. LOL I took the food with me but didn't eat it. It went in the trash out by the garage before I even went into the house. My sister ordered toast and corned beef hash. She enjoyed it and said she would order it again. The restaurant was bright, clean, and comfortable. Our waitress was pleasant and attentive. I didn't care for the ham on my sandwich but would visit Simon's again despite that.

You have to love when the owner responds like this. I wasn't dining with my friend I was dining with my husband so unless he's talking about another table. On top of that never did I mention that I wanted my food to be put up in a heat lamp I worked in the food industry as a server, as an expeditor, and in the kitchen. I especially work at fine dining and I get it this isn't fine dining completely understand it the equivalent of going to Denny's so I shouldn't expect much. But when we only took a small bite of the chicken Limon and I did finish my fish tacos even though they were a little bit too burnt from my liking. We send it back as quickly as we coould but our server decided not to follow a common rule of serving which is 2 minutes 2 bites. It means checking up on guests in the first 2 min or 2 bites to see if food quality was meet to their expectation and if not i should be fixed immediately. We were never offered a way to fix it by a server and when we tried going up front we're really ignored well the owner was talking to a lady when they got done talking he immediately stuck out his hand for our card and went to talk to the other person and told them to come up so he can take care of him over there and had a conversation with them so there was no point in talking to him because my time was sensitive that day and I just paid for everything even though our server told us I'm not going to charge you for the soda and the iced tea which both of them are priced around $6 together and our chicken limone priced at $18 on top of that I was the one that finished up my husband's soup and I ate my soup and all he had was a little corner of the chicken when we were trying to return it back and say we didn't care for it so it was in boxed up. So it's nice to know that not only was a server lying about the whole situation but at the same time the owner has no idea what happened or if you knew what happened he just didn't care about it goes to show you how hospitable this place is when given a little bit of feedback. I can get a better solution or actual hospitality from a Denny's or an IHOP then this place

Currently on a family trip taking my folks up to see their grandkids play baseball in Lombard. Coming back to the hotel we spotted the restaurant and thought it'd be a great spot to eat. This morning we were promptly sat and greatly warmly by our server Juan. The experience was exceptional. Service was great and the food was spectacular! I really enjoyed the Gravy Biscuit Benedict. All the food was delicious and hot. I tried my mom's French toast. It was excellent. My dad enjoyed a Sausage and Cheese omelette. I'd highly recommend eating there if you're in the Villa Park or Lombard area! The restaurant was clean and safe. The atmosphere was great and friendly for everyone including families. Thank you! Overall great experience, and the waitress was super nice. Our group got seated right away and offer menus. Lots of items to choose from and the coffee was nice and hot. Lots of full tables and establishment was clean. I had the BLT sandwich with fries and a chicken noodle soup. The bread was nice and toasted, bacon was crisp, lettuce was perfect, and the tomato was just right. The chicken noodle soup was hot, and they give you saltine crackers to go with it. The BLT came with some french fries , and there was ketchup brought over. Will definitely come back to try their menu.

Shout out to Starbucks for giving me a fork in the drive thru. Now on the hunt for a spoon!

When you're takeout doesn't give you silverware and you didn't pay the 3/4$ up charge for bread busy working entrepreneur here who was in the area and wanted to stop in and get some of my fav soup. Please don't be this cheap to your customers, give them silverware. Shout out to Starbucks for giving me a fork in the drive thru. Now on the hunt for a spoon!

Stopped back in to try this place again place was only 25% full. And it was like there was a rush of some sort to place order. should've checked my order before I left having that feeling got home and realized the order was not complete. No pancakes. For the price of breakfast it really hurts when you don't get all your food. I personally probably won't stop in a third time.

Busy even on a Monday. Service was good, although busy and looked hard on the staff. Mimosa perfectly pored. Not normally a fan of this soup, but everyone at the table liked it. Sandwich was great, had plenty of leftovers. Great daily specials.

Chicken piccata was the special tonight. I needed to say it was delicious.

I got the Hobo skillet which is a skillet full of hashbrowns, topped with blended melted cheese, onions and 2 eggs (any style) with toast, butter and jelly on the side. And honestly for $10.50 this hit the spot! Our waitress was really nice, didn't have much of a wait time and the food was good! It's definitely diner vibes but a local restaurant so I'd definitely recommend checking them out!

Food is so, so...nothing spectacular or different from any other breakfast restaurant. They are grossly overpriced. The owners are a bit pompous. I'm really not a fan of their attitudes. As far as service, it's it or miss. Sometimes it's good...sometimes it's not. Love the soup, but who doesn't. But, there are SO many Greek-owned breakfast restaurant's that serve the same soup..maybe even cheaper?? And why does it take 10am for the soup to be ready? It seems to be getting later and later. It used to be 9:30am. Their ingredients aren't of good quality either, at least not what you should get considering the amount they charge consumers! I usually order skillets and my canned mushrooms suck. The hash browns are always undercooked too. This place makes it because of location and cheery decor. If it wasn't for those two things it would be a flop. read more

I ate here with my family tonight and my 5 year old son wanted pancakes and eggs with bacon so we ordered it, he has a severe peanut allergy. I asked if peanut oil was used and the waitress said yes and I asked if they could make him eggs and a pancake in a separate pan and she said the cook didn't have enough time. Seriously? Who says that? In the last three years of him having a peanut allergy we have never been treed so rudely. Every restaurant we have been to has gone above and beyond so his safety was most important. I am shocked you are cooking/frying all of your food in peanut oil with all the people with severe allergies. You should be ashamed at how this situation was handled . read more

Went 2x. Won't be back. Both waitresses were abrupt and snippy. No gracious hospitality here. 1st time just met friends for coffee and we shared pie. Merengue was tough but merengue is tricky. Disappointing but no big deal. 2nd time was straight downhill from moment waitress plopped the water on the table and walked away without a word. Veg soup was salty but really packed with vegetables and nice portion, so not bad. Then my hot turkey sandwich came. The 'gravy' was yellow orange color and had a shiny skin forming on it. I asked the waitress to double check if if it was cheese sauce. A manager came out to assure me it was gravy and that people love their gravy. Ok then. Between the color, the pasty potatoes, and that it was cold under the first layer, I couldn't eat it. My friend's sandwich was so skimpy the turkey didn't cover the small bread it was made with. Our waitress, who could see us clearly, waited every table around us and never came back to us. So it was all bad. Never an offer to bring me something else or adjust the bill- even when I told my story to the manager when we paid $21 (!) for bad lunch. I'm in restaurants several times a week. Won't be back to this one. read more

The men that work here are very disrespectful to women. The food and service isn't worth the bad attitudes. I went here with some family for breakfast and the woman sitting behind us, very politely apologized and told the waiter that her steak had an unusual amount of fat and not enough meat. The waiter told her it was their new batch of New York steaks and that they were all like that, although her husband sitting across from her had a perfect New York strip. She very politely asked could she order a different steak and the waiter left to get her another menu, but instead the manager came to the table and brought the butcher or the guy that works with their meat and he start yelling at this woman right there in the middle of the restaurant that she didn't know anything about steaks. The lady and her husband were outraged by the blatant and uncalled for display of unprofessionalism and disrespect, and they paid and left. I would have never paid. They are better people than me. I will never go back to this place. People like that will spit in your food and you'll never know it. I wouldn't even recommend this place to someone I didn't like. Seriously. read more

I will never go to this restaurant again... my son's wedding is this weekend and my husband and I took my family there for dinner... I can't really think of anything nice to say about our experience... we got there... orders were taken... soup and salad was brought... our food was brought, and then... our drinks came, except for my brother in law's, his drink was brought after he was done eating... my food came and was told they didn't have what I ordered, after all the food was served! (maybe as soon as they knew they didn't have it, come talk to me.. I would have ordered something else) my sister's order was wrong... and the all you can eat cod, well, if you want more than the 2 pieces they bring the first time around is just about all you will get... if you are lucky enough to get more, be prepared to wait 20-30 minutes to get it... apparently, they ran out of the old fish and had to use fresh fish and that was the hold up... (wasn't the first batch fresh?) we never saw our waitress again until we started complaining and asking where our waitress was... and the rest of our food.... the owner came over and asked us if everything was okay... we told him no, our service is bad, we haven't received all our food, as we told him how bad the service had been... he told us, he gave us his best waitress... well if that's the best, everyone eating there is in trouble! they did give us a free little plastic salad dressing container of soft serve ice cream, as if that would make up for the terrible service we received... after answering the owners question about how was everything going and we told him, they just became even ruder! all the way around it was handled very poorly by the waitress and the owner... I guess they dont care if they lose 8 paying customers in one night! I wouldnt waste my time at this restaurants, when there are sooo many better restaurants in the immediate area... read more

I came to eat here with my family tonight and thought it was good due to all the cars that frequent it when we drive by. Unfortunately the open face turkey and Caesar salad weren't good and the chicken sandwich is supposed to be served with fries. I wasn't able to notify the waitress due to being distracted by two screaming children at a table for 15 minutes. (Several other customers closer to the table complained and nothing was done). I spoke to what I believe to be the owners when I went to pay and told him that I never received my fries with my sandwich. He then asked the waitress who stated I did. I told her I didn't not. The owner then proceeded to argue with me and told me they will have to charge me separately for my soup due to them not having a price for this mix up. I explained I ordered the group and didn't receive it, he then told me I don't understand. The other owner explained they sometimes put the fries on the plate when not asked. They were not apologetic for the matter at all and had an attitude. All i would have wanted was to pay for what i received and act apologetic towards the situation for correction. I would not recommend the food nor the restaurant to anyone. This one experience has ruined my return. read more

Overall, still one of the best Chicagoland brewpubs around.

HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, SERVICE!!!! THIS PLACE IS RACIST!!! PLEASE DO NOT EAT HERE!. My husband, kids, and I were driving around to a place to eat and decided to stop in and check this place out. First of all I am Latina, this place looks like it only serves to the Senior Citizens. When we walked in, I immediately felt the odd look in their face, we were immediately sat down in the back far corner where no one could see us. I ordered a soup and it came with Bread, as i cut the bread into pieces and i shared some with my kids, as i was getting towards the middle of the bread i NOTICED THE BREAD WAS MOLDY!!! I was disgusted. I told the waitress and as I was explaining she immediately took it to the Manager didn't even let me explain to her the situation. The OWNER came and with back towards all the rest of the Customers to avoid them from listening to our issue and in a low voice said to me "WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO DO". I was shocked, i responded "WHAT DO YOU MEAN WHAT DO I WANT TO DO??" i was expecting him to say I'm sorry or offer me a discount or bring another loaf of Bread, we got NOTHING!!! I could not believe it. He walked away and left it like that, the waiter was being so rude when she brought our food, she practically threw it at us. My husband got up and said to us, lets go, we do not need to be treated this way. i told the waiter "thanks but we are no longer eating here" she immediately went to the Owner and explained him the situation. As we were heading towards the front door, he seemed very upset. i said, "THANKYOU BUT WE DO NOT NEED TO BE TREATED THIS WAY, WE ARE HERE TO EAT AND WE ARE BEING TREATED IN SUCH A HORRIBLE WAY THAT WE DO NOT NEED TO PAY FOR THIS KIND OF SERVICE" he responded "GOOD DONT EVER COME BACK HERE AGAIN!" i was in total shock!!! I have NEVER EVER BEEN THIS DISCRIMINATED AGAINST IN MY LIFE AT A RESTAURANT. THEY ARE DEFINITELY RACIST!!! I felt like calling the Media or something it was unbelievable the kind of treatment we received. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE YOUR FAMILIES TO THIS PLACE AND SPREAD THE WORD, PEOPLE LIKE THIS DO NOT NEED TO RUN A BUSINESS WITH THAT KIND OF SERVICE!!!! THANKS. read more

Wish I could give NO STARS! Like many people have said in these reviews, the MGMT is TERRIBLE! I have not been to this place for a few years, and I live right behind it! Went in for All you can eat fish, even called to see if they had it still and the time it stops! Got one plate, then they said they were out of fish. I said, well I'm not paying for "all you can eat" since I didn't get that, I'll pay for a "Fish Dinner", but not all you can eat. Waitress went to talk to Mgr, they said they would not do anything, so then I went up and talked to him and his wife, told the Wife "I even called you and asked if you had fish!" Basically didn't want to do a thing about it, I finally got them to give me a free ice cream Sunday, that I was going to order anyway, which would cover the extra cost for the All You can Eat I didn't get! VERY rude and stuck up owners, act like there YOU KNOW WHAT don't stink, and obviously don't learn from this feed back since they are STILL acting this way towards customers. I will NEVER go in again, and will tell and post this story everywhere I can, so people can see what jerks they are! read more

BAD!! Seriously BAD! Rude Servers! Rude management! Food was cold and not good! There were 5 of us and when we went last week for dinner, we were treated like we were second class citizens and like we weren't welcome there! I was practically in tears when I left because the server spilled coffee on the back of my my white shirt and didn't even offer to get something to get it out! The food wasn't the best and we overheard one of the idiot servers complaining to another about another server and they were yucking it up like a couple of idiots. Too bad they weren't busy taking care of us instead. We will never be back and told about everyone we know since then! read more

Had lunch here recently and it was such a great experience. The service was excellent from start to finish -- everyone was friendly, attentive, and made us feel really welcome without being overbearing. The food was even better. I ordered the Greek chicken kabab pita and I'm still thinking about it. The chicken was perfectly seasoned and tender, the pita was fresh, and everything came together so well. Easily one of the best lunches I've had in a while. Definitely looking forward to coming back and trying more from the menu! read more

Food was decent, nothing special about the food at all. It's a good family restaurant with lots of choices on the menu. The reason I am giving them two stars is because the service was way below par. I had to get out of my seat and hunt down the waitress to get my check. The older gentleman that was working the cash register was very rude to me and hurried me along. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone looking for good food and good service. read more

Excellent food, excellent service. Had an issue with my first order but the waitress made sure I was satisfied with the resolution which was a different dish. My issue was not even that serious, I just felt like the rice wasn't fully cooked. That is my opinion though and I have been told I like my rice overcooked. I highly recommend Simon's. read more

We have been going here for years and the wait staff is great. The lady's go along with my senior citizen jokes and the food is great. I winked at the waitress and I got extra whip cream on my pancakes! My daughter loves the breakfast sausage there and my wife eats locks and bagels. She said their locks and bagels are the best. read more

This has the best food in town and it's always busy, because of that. I am surprised the reviews are so bad on here, because the food and the people always make up for any issues with waiting or being crowded. Best soup in the world. They also make a lit meatloaf and give you free ice cream!! Every Sunday family tradition. read more

For me, the food was great, but one in our party was very upset with the waiter because the food served was incorrect and the waiter refused to acknowledge it. I was satisfied, he was not. The incident was upsetting to say the least. Others in our party had great food, but didn't understand the mix-up. read more

This place has the most unfriendly management. They are here to make money. They are not here to help customers at all. They are here to rush you in and out and take your money regardless of whether or not your food was fit to eat. I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone read more

i think you might have the restaurant confused with another restaurant, Martine...Simon's doesn't have bread baskets, they serve bread by the loaf. I actually frequently dine there (I work near by) and have never had a bad meal. The food is always good. read more
