The pancakes are so good, you do not need syrup. The sausage patties so flavorful. The grits....I have no words for the mastery this man has put into the grits. It's a perfect balance of grit to salt to butter. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. The coffee!!!! Oh this coffee is so full of flavor, high and low flavors. I loved trying Simple Joe for the first time! We had a bagel sandwich and delicious French toast with bananas. My favorite part was their iced coffee because it had coffee ice cubes-- and it was strong, not too sweet. The inside was decorated with lots of local art that is available for purchase. And there is also an option to dine outside! Our total for two coffees, bagel sandy, and French toast was $29 after tip. Kind of pricey for a breakfast meal, but it was pretty good. read more

It has been a while since I've been here, but it's every bit as good as I remember. Legitimately my favorite veggie omelet in town. Excellent service. Comfortable atmosphere. My family swears by the grits. It's tucked away in a little shopping center so it's easy to miss, but I'd you like breakfast/brunch, it would be a crime to miss this place. Owner Sean Braswell knows how to run a fast-paced eatery. I've never seen him without a huge welcoming smile, even while working the front counter taking orders with his arm in a sling. He's created a neighborhood gem with Simple Joe. The food is consistent (the creamy grits are outstanding), the music is lively, the vibe is friendly, and the staff are helpful and top notch. (Shout out to server Sean "Murphy" for being such a sweetheart.) Even though on Sunday mornings, the line can be long and tables are limited, everything moves at a comfortable pace, and all patrons seem to find a place to sit. The River Road Coffee served there is tons better than Community Coffee that seems to be so prevalent elsewhere in the city. I feel lucky to have such a convenient and upbeat eatery just two blocks away. It's my go-to after being up too late on Saturday night. This was honestly one of my favorite spots in Baton Rouge hands down. Super simple cafe with seriously good flavors. I ordered the eggs, pancakes, bacon, and of course a coffee. The eggs were cooked to perfection, the pancake was so good it literally didn't need butter or syrup, literally because I didn't use any syrup, sincerely just that good. They already had a line of customers. Everyone was taken care of quickly and we were seated. It's self serve which I like. Even with the amount of people we got our food quick and hot. Everything was made fresh. I got the signature shrimp and grits. I am very particular with grits and 98% of restaurants don't know how to make good grits and that's making them creamy and add some seasoning. These grits were by far the best grits I've ever eaten.
