Bad experience here, I ordered online. Got a text acknowledgment, then an email, and my card was chafed. When I went to pick up they man said he had no record of my order. he asked "what app did I use to order" which is always a bad sign. When I showed him the confirmations he said again there was no record and just turned to the next customer. He did say my card wouldn't be charged. It was anyway. Mistakes happen, I get that. I ordered basil duck for $20. 3 pieces of duck and I got and it's all bone and fat. Basically I got white rice and green beans. I will never order here ever again. This was the first food we have had from a restaurant in a year. Yes, you read that correctly. This Yelp Elite adorned profile gave up restaurants completely at the onset of the pandemic and once we were in a rhythm of cooking at home, we just kept going. After passing the one year mark, we decided to use an UberEats credit that we had and splurge on a cuisine we haven't been able to easily replicate in our home cooking adventures. What a disappointment. I ordered the pad thai with tofu. The rice noodles were thinner than more traditional pad thai and the entire dish lacked flavor. The noodles were dry, the green onions were cut into big chunks, and the tofu was undercooked. It was notably missing the bean sprouts and cabbage that should have been in the dish. I thought I was maybe let down simply because after a year my expectations were high, but my husband sampled my dish and agreed that it was underwhelming for the price. My husband ordered a beef dish. I didn't try it due to a food allergy. He said it was better than my pad thai; still nothing great or worth ordering again. We split an order of fried potstickers, which were fine but nothing notable or exciting. We also ordered and shared a spring roll. The spring roll wrapper was thicker than typical, but the vegetables were fresh. I'm disappointed that this was our first adventure back into food from restaurants because this wasn't an inexpensive meal, even with the credit we had, and didn't come close to satisfying our craving for Thai food. Seek out another Thai restaurant. Neither dish that I ordered came as ordered. In addition, the spice level was very off (ordered spicy, came with none) The Pad Thai was downright unappetizing: flavorless, just noodles, 3 pieces of protein (tofu). The little lime wedge on the side did little to redeem the dish. Very disappointed. If this chef would like some constructive comments for the Pad Thai: use more salt, citrus, tamarind, scallions and chilis. Include more than 3-4 pieces of protein and use less oil. Best Thai food around suburbs. I see many negative reviews for this place and they are unfounded. I have eaten here 15 times minimum. The food is great. I have never had issues with the quality. I so wanted to like this place and wanted to find another Thai place outside my usual neighborhood of Highland Park. Boy did I make a mistake. I ordered from DoorDash and it came quickly enough. Food was "Simply Meh". It wasn't bad but it wasn't good either. I ordered the pad Thai which should be indicative of how the rest of the food should be. Unfortunately their classic Pad Thai dish was a bland tasting one-note dish of a mess with no flavor whatsoever. Disappointing! Also ordered Green curry chicken and again it was very one note and lacked freshness from the basil and no heat or depth from the green curry. It tasted like heated up frozen Thai food. Ugh. So i ordered the Tom Kha soup and an order of Chicken Pad Thai. Soup had absolutely no vegetables in it all, only Chicken. The same with the Pad Thai, no vegetables at all only noodles and Chicken. Very disappointed with our Christmas dinner! Thought we'd try this restaurant and understanding it was a holiday and staff was limited my husband picked up the order after a long hold! We ordered two noodle dishes.... The food was ice cold (we live less than a minute away) and the pork was dry and rubbery. I support small businesses therefore, I always try to order from family owned, one of a kind restaurants. Tonight, through Uber eats, I ordered a small Tom Yum soup with chicken, papaya salad and flat noodles with chicken. I love how Uber eats works because you get to see the steps from order to delivery. I absolutely recommend ordering through Uber eats as my food was delivered on time and the driver was very pleasant. I wish I can say that my experience with this restaurant was pleasant. When I placed the order, I put in the notes section that I needed utensils, soy sauce and hot chili paste. I am staying at the Marriott for a week for work and often, get sick of Hotel and work food. There were no utensils, no soy sauce or red chili paste. I called the restaurant and spoke to a gentleman who answered the phone to let him know what it happened. His response was "tell the driver to come back and pick it up, go ask the hotel for utensils and sorry, sometimes we forget things." He was so rude and unapologetic that I will never order food from him again. Of the three items that I ordered, the only decent item was the papaya salad. But I did post a picture of how much dressing they include - it was overpowering. The Tom yum soup was bland and flat noodles, too. I do not Recommend and I will not order from again. Do NOT go here if you have a nut allergy. I have a peanut allergy and we ordered egg rolls and we asked them if there was anything peanut related in them, and they said no. About 10 minutes later, they brought it out. I took a bite. After about 25 seconds, i got a tingle in my mouth and my gums and mouth started to get slobbery and sting and itch. Immediately i knew it was a reaction, because it was something i never experienced before. After that, i had massive food poisoning and the largest stomach ache a human can possibly have. This is our go to take away resturante. It is less than a half mile from our house. It has a nice selection of thai food items. Everything we have ordered has always been made with fresh colorful ingredients. The vegies are full of crunch and somehow the entrees are always hot when we serve them at home. Which probably is because our order is never not been ready when we arrive to pick up our dinner. Plus the wait time from the order to pick up time has never been more than 25 minutes. Wait time is very important when selecting a take away resturante. Since when we order out it is often because we didn't get our butts in gear to fix it ourselves. Tonight I enjoyed a half portion of Rama noodles with chicken. An added benefit is I always have tomorrow's lunch ready after ordering from Simply Thai. My wife had the very fresh and yummy Pad Woon Sen. Our meal was accompanied by Carb Talay and Cucumber salad. Bottomline is we have never been disappointed and we will be back soon. read more

One star for service. In my first review, I raved about this place! I got the Basil chicken and it was delicious, and the service (by the owner's son (?) was great). However, recently, I drove out of my way to get the Basil chicken once more. I placed my order on the road and was greeted by the owner. He was rude and abrupt. When he asked how spicy I wanted my meal from 1 to 5, I replied, "3.5 to 4." He wasn't pleased and barked back, "There are no halves! Pick one!" My mother overheard the conversation and was surprised I didn't hang up on him. He was rude a few other times but I had my heart set on that Basil chicken. I went to pick up my order. The owner wasn't exactly friendly when I walked in. After I paid (my mistake), I said that he'd been "a bit rude" to me over the phone. His response? A condescending, "Pffft!" followed by a disingenuous, "Have a nice day." Then, he turned and walked away from me. The delivery man looked apologetic and seemed to feel sorry for me, haha. I don't think I'm the first, nor will I be the last, to complain about the owner's poor service if he doesn't make some changes. I wasn't expecting much more than an apology, but the owner acted like he'd done me a favor by allowing me to pay him for his food. Wow. Review- Four stars based on what this is: Thai take-out, but executed exquisitely well and with care. Absolutely spotless storefront that resembles a waiting room at a spa as opposed to a take-out place. Hard wood floors, flat screen TV, furniture, and the restaurant logo elegantly painted on the walls all adorn the space making one happy to hang out while the food is rapidly prepared with an on-site order. The restaurant is owned by a husband and wife couple who both cook, greet and take orders. The menu is extensive, albeit not particularly novel. However, there are plenty of choices, organized exceptionally well, including duck; not commonly found in take-out Thai places around these parts. I sampled ton mun (fish cakes), spring roll, pan seared dumplings and tofu pad Thai. All were delicious and seasoned well. This is clearly THAI food cooked by Thai people - not glorified Chinese food. A fun, added bonus are fresh smoothies and teas, with tapioca pearls added to make a bubble tea or smoothie if desired. The owners suggested a mango-lychee combo and it was excellent. Pricing was reasonable, but not cheap. Take out packaging was done carefully and was very pleasing to the eye. For anyone in Northbrook, Deerfield, Glencoe, Highland Park, Northfield or even Glenview in search of fresh Thai take-out created by lovely, warm people in a fabulous take-out atmosphere (who knew?)...Simply Thai is Simply Perfect. read more

This joint is almost five miles from my office, but, as I dislike both Thai options in Glenview, I decided to give these guys a chance on a day when I was maddeningly craving Thai and did not have time to sit down somewhere anyway. The pad thai contained a good balance of ingredients--sprouts, noodles, peanuts, etc all in good proportion. However, the noodles were somewhat dry and the flavor was not quite forceful enough. Still, an overall B or B+. The spring rolls were the same soulless but marginally satisfying version that you can get at EVERY other Thai restaurant on earth. Seriously, can't ANYONE distinguish themselves with this item? On my second visit, I tried the coconut calamari, which predictably did not survive the drive back without losing their crisp, despite the holes that they cleverly poked in the styrafoam container. But, they tasted great, I loved the accompanying sauce, and the big, thick pieces of calamari (the size of onion rings) were a pleasant surprise. Wasabi shumai...where's the wasabi flavor? The shrimp was plump and perfectly cooked, but the dumpling itself was mushy and there was hardly any flavor to it. Ditto the basil fried rice--big chunks of chicken but miniscule basil, very few vegetables, and anemic flavor. This place is tucked in a strip mall with a takeout vibe; they have a very small dining area with a couple of chairs, so I suppose most people call in and grab their food. We ordered a bunch of food -- what I noticed is that unlike most asian restaurants, the takeout containers are not bulging to the brim full of food. The food is packed in plastic clear top throw away containers and half way filled. We ordered the salmon curry and it was good -- the sauce was probably the best part as the fish had the fishy smell, more than usual so it wasn't fresh. My health conscious side of me ordered a side of brown rice which was surprisingly good. We also ordered the beef and chicken Pad Se-Ew and it was pretty good as well. We also got the Tom Yum -- not a fan, but others thought it was good... it was too citrusy for me. The "King and I" was tasty -- it was pretty much like chicken with peapods, and the sauce was non-existent, which was fine with me as I like light sauce, but if you're expecting or wanting a lot of sauce, this is not the dish for you. Again, small portions, there was 5 of us and the takeout bill came out to be $75. We were relatively full. Tip for you yelpers -- remember to check-in via Yelp and they offer a 15% off yelp offer. I really like the men who work at this carry-out only Thai restaurant. The food preparation is quick, service particularly pleasant, and portions are reasonable in size. DO NOT ORDER. I placed an order for $80 worth of food tonight from Simply Thai through Grubhub. Immediately upon delivery I noticed that 4 items were missing from the order: 2 orders of Chicken Satay, an order of Pot stickers, and brown rice for the curry dish. The items were on the receipt, paid for, and checked off by the restaurant, acknowledging that they knew we had ordered and paid for the items. Instead of calling Grubhub, I decided to contact the restaurant directly. A man answered and when I told him about our missing items, he asked me who I ordered through. When I said "Grubhub" he said "that's what you get for using Grubhub." I was baffled and said "excuse me??" and he told me to "calm down." At this point I handed the phone to my husband. The man at the restaurant (owner??) called him an asshole and a dumb mother f*cker and was screaming at him over the phone when my husband told him, we placed an order, we paid for it, it doesn't matter who the delivery is through. The condiments for the order (peanut sauce, etc.) were included, but the satay, potstickers, and rice were not there. I called Grubhub and they issued a refund and were appalled by his attitude, as were we. We usually order from Simply Thai and take advantage of their take-out service, and I was actually pleasantly surprised to see them on Grubhub. This was our first Grubhub experience with them, and I will never, ever order Simply Thai again, through any service or direct call. If the owner has such disdain for Grubhub, I don't understand why he is taking advantage of their services. I told the Grubhub rep that if the driver attempts to come back with missing food we will not accept delivery. I cannot trust that this awful man did not tamper with the food. On top of it what we did receive includes such small portions - the panang salmon is probably a 4oz piece of salmon that was extremely salty, no lime leaves in the curry, and just salty and bland.
