Came here for part of my bridal shower celebration and we were so pleased with the service and overall experience. The inside was nice and clean, the chairs were comfy and spacious (though spread out far from each other so keep this in mind when you come here in a group). They let us bring champagne and cupcakes which we set on a cute counter near our area. All six girls in my party were work on simultaneously so we all finished around the same time - no waiting around for stragglers. The manicure and pedicure were top notch. My mother is a nail technician and I've had hundreds of manicures - they do a QUALITY job here. I got the deluxe package which include a hot wax dip which was amazing. I purchased the regular spa manicure and pedicure which includes (surprise) a 10 minute hand/arm and 10 minute leg massage!!! The massages were the best I've ever gotten at a nail salon. If you are on the fence about visiting Simply Unique Nails or SUN as they call it, know that you will get attentive service that surpasses most nail salons in SF. I say "most" because I have not been to them all. SUN happily advertises that all tools are sterilized before each use. I saw with my own eyes, Sabrina tear open a new steri-bag just for me. Perfect! My nails were perfectly shaped and filed, no rough or uneven edges. The color was evenly applied and did not smudge. It lasted for 3 days (mani) going on a week (pedi). The spa massage chairs are brand new and clean. I did not partake in the complimentary wine, but will next time. Most places that offer wine do so only on the weekends, at SUN it's flowing all week! Yelp People!! You did it again... thank you for such good feedback regarding Simply Unique Nails - I had a terrific experience there today getting a manicure/pedicure. This place is clean, the people that work there are friendly and the results are very beautiful for a reasonable price!! Oh, did I mention that they serve you with a lovely glass of many different choices of drinks? Today I had sparkling water with a slice of fresh lime! Kelly was the manicurist and pedicurist and she had the perfect mix of good conversation, amazing foot/leg - hand/arm massage and focus on her work as I dove back into meaningless (but so wonderful) celebrity gossip magazines all while sitting in a massage chair! I am so grateful to have found this great spot to get my nails done and look forward to coming back for more than an hour of pampering! My previous review, dating back to my first visit in early October, warrants an update. A week or so after posting my review, I was contacted via Yelp by Sabrina, whom I believe to be the salon's manager. She apologized for the price mix-up and invited me to come back anytime for a complimentary service. Not once did she NOT try to defend the salon - she went with the more and more rarely seen these days "customer is always right" method of resolving the problem. I thanked her for her response, and indeed, yesterday I called (she asked me to phone ahead) to let her know I would like to come in for a manicure. One of their technicians, who was great, took me pretty much right away. My manicure was thorough, and the hand/arm massage was fantastic. Someone offered me a complimentary drink three different times just to make sure I was doing okay. Now granted, I know they probably went a little bit out of their way to ensure I was happy with the service. But given that my original review was 3 stars and not something abysmal like 1 or 2 stars, they never had to reach out in the first place. I was a one -time customer who simply would never have gone back...no real loss to them, since it's not like my review was written in a horribly disparaging way that would lead them to fear I was going to trash their name all over town. But now, after reaching out to me initially AND following up an hour later by phone to see if I was satisfied (even inquiring as to why I did not get a pedicure as well - I just did not need one and was wearing rain boots), I will make it a point to return. I used to come here a few years ago but the quality has really gone down. I went in the middle of the week when they were pretty empty. Everyone working there was nice, but the quality of my mani/pedi is very low. I got the dip manicure, and for over $50 I expect the dip powder to be even and on my nails... instead it looks very uneven, is all over my cuticles and honestly looks like I painted my nails myself. My pedicure is alright but again, looks like I did it at home. Unfortunate! I won't be returning. read more

I love getting acrylic nails and after testing SUN 3 times (1 full set, 2 refills), I will never go back. The service was rushed, I was cut multiple times, and most importantly, the acrylics were SUPER DUPER thick! They looked trashy and unprofessional. Not only that, but on the website a full set is $35, but I was charged $45! I didn't realize this until I came and looked at the website. Since SUN, I have been going to Creative Nail Care and getting my nails done by the owner, Laura. She is amazing. She does an amazing job, is friendly, speaks English well, and is truly artistic. Really disappointed, and so not worth the price at all! The lady and man butchered my nails, I asked for "fiberglass nails," come to find out they just did acrylic. Worst part, all my finger nails have a different shape. One thumb is square, while the other one is coven. Really mad, because they look horrible! They cut me 5 times, and just not even close to okay. I have gotten my nails done since I was 15, I am 17, so I have gone through a lot of different nail jobs. Relax in the best massage chairs in the city while the amazing ladies at Simply Unique pamper you with the deluxe pedicure! Without knowing what came with this, it was 1pm and I was pretty sure I was still drunk from last night, so I said why not?! A salt soak, exfoliating gel scrub, marine masque, "special" warm lotion and of course paraffin wax after the color. Other reviews that tell of the amazing massages do not lie, thank you and good by hangover. The salon is long with ten or so pedi chairs spaced in sets of two giving plenty of space between them. There is a peaceful sense of privacy with the layout, only two or three nail tables. They do not line the tubs with plastic, still everything appeared fresh and felt clean. We found ourselves walking in sans appointment on a Saturday and were seated immediately. This is a must stop pedi place! Wonderful! read more

Although I rarely get a manicure, I have never been truly satisfied with any of the nail salons in my 'hood (Noe Valley). I didn't want to take any chances the day before I left for my sister's wedding, so I checked Yelp and discovered this very highly rated salon. The moment I walked in, I knew it was different. For one thing, it didn't reek of nail polish -- no unpleasant chemical stench in the air. For another, I was warmly greeted right away by one of the employees who helped me decide on a color. They were great throughout my manicure/pedicure -- warm, friendly, and professional -- and very thankful for my business. And to top it all off, my French manicure has lasted an entire week now (is that a world record?) and I've been getting compliments on my nails left and right. I wish I could give ten stars! I took my sister for some fun girly-time to get a mani/pedi. I was attracted to the amount of good reviews that Simply Unique Nails got. I called in an hour ahead and said we wanted to sit together and chat. When we arrived, two chairs at the back of the room were waiting for us. Let the pampering begin... We sat in massage chairs, and had hand/arm, foot/leg message during the mani/pedi. Everything was clean and everyone was very friendly. They offered us drinks and didn't "skimp" on anything. Several hours after the experience I noticed the nails on my right hand had some minor chipping (oops!) So, I just popped right back in for a touch up and they gave me ANOTHER full manicure free of charge (even though it was probably my fault). I definitely recommend this place and will go again the next time. $35 for a Mani/Pedi experience was great - just leave a good tip. They deserve it! read more

I used to enjoy my time here. But after the 3rd bad experience!!!!! One tine they cut the side of the nail bed and caused a painful infection. Another time they didn't do a few gel nails well because they rushed (they were busy). My final visit was my last because she did 3 nail SOOO badly that she asked if I could return on Saturday for her to re-do them! Why would I want to waste another 60 minutes of travel and an hour in a chair because she had several walk-in appointments she wanted to accommodate so rushed my nails leaving bumps and uneven areas on the gel placement. The good news is that I decided that this cannot be so difficult to do...I ordered a lamp and bought gel from Sally's Supply. There are videos and on-line instructions...I have saved SO MUCH!! This place is my jam. I've lived in the neighborhood for years and have been getting my nails did at Simply Unique ever since. So do my 2 roommates. It's not cheap exactly but you get your money's worth and then some. The regular manis last up to 2 weeks. The pedis 2-3. They throw in a nice massage on hands, arms, shoulders and neck along with legs and feet. A wide range of colors to choose from. Complimentary beverages. Lately, I've been getting acrylic gel powder for my manis and those last for at least a month. This place is a well ran ship. The shop is clean. They are efficient and thorough and friendly. It's best to call in and make an appointment being that they are usually busy. My go-to people are Quinn, Jessica and Bon, but everyone else is good as well. read more

I don't understand the hype. It is really not that great and on my last visit it was down right awful (so much so that I walked out before my appointment and went somewhere else). I'm troubled by the lack of cleanliness (if you bother to look closely). Towels aren't that clean and the 'sanitizing' of the pedi baths doesn't appear to be that thorough. Many higher quality nail bars will allow group bookings and private parties. I really wouldn't risk your nail health here. Sugarcoat on Post and Market Nails are both miles better. read more

This nail salon is my fav in the city...they are so efficient with your time without rushing your job. i get in on time for my appointments, if i walk-in my waiting time isn't ridiculously long and the work they've done i have been extremely happy with. i work at the SF OPERA HOUSE IN THE BASEMENT RESTAURANT AND MY NAIL ARE SEEN AND BEATEN UP DAILY...but they hold up lovely until i go in for a new fill or set...i rarely break one or chip my gel polish...i get soo many compliments on my nails...so i just keep coming back...they are so friendly and professional at this shop i go nowhere else when im in S.F. there no need to! read more

Today I tried out this nail salon after reading the reviews so far by my fellow Yelpers. I have found my neighborhood pamper palace!!! Pedicures are a monthly treat for me. A pat on the back for being so awesome. It's my alone time and I want my alone time to feel like I'm a princess for an hour. That's exactly how I felt as soon as I sat down in one of their leather massage chairs. I was greeted warmly by everyone in the salon and my pedicurist was a young man who did an amazing job cleaning, massaging and painting my nails. (BEST FOOT MASSAGE I have ever received at a nail salon!) A young woman, Jessica, did my manicure (something I rarely get, but I felt like I deserved it this month) and did an amazing job making my nails looks naturally perfect. This is my favorite place to get my manicure/pedicure. They always do a quality job and they have the magical nail gel that makes my manicure last for weeks without chipping or peeling. The place is clean, affordable, and they really go the extra mile to take of you and make you feel comfortable. It's a great place to just go by yourself or go with your girlfriends. I go here every week for a mani-pedi, and once a month to get brows waxed, eyebrows & lash tinting. I love these ladies. They get right to it and don't mess around. They all have GREAT senses of humor even though a lot of time I can't understand what they are saying. another great find on yelp! after a let down experience at a previous salon, i consulted my bookmarks for an alternate nail salon. SUN had great reviews, and i thought i'd give them a chance. i'm glad i made reservations as my appointment was on new year's eve. i had scheduled my appointment right when they opened, and they were pretty booked that day and had loads of walk-ins that they had to ask to come back later in the day. the manicurist are very friendly, and have great attention to detail when cleaning and painting. i had no problems with them not painting the sides of the nails near the cuticle -- my pet peeve -- since they were on point with everything. i love the hand and foot/leg massage. they didn't skimp, and had the right amount of pressure. the salon is clean and spacious. although it's not the closest salon to my house, i'd be more than willing to come back here to get my nails done. they are right next to home and many other restaurants in the castro, so you can make a day of brunch and relaxation! read more

I was desperately trying to find a good nail salon that does excellent pink and whites. I actually found Simply Unique Nails by searching yelp. I am extremely picky and it is very important to me that my nails appear natural and clean around the cuticle area. I used to be a long-time and very faithful customer to John's Nail Creation in San Carlos. I would drive all the way from San Francisco. Then the polish from my toes started to chip and when I brought it to his attention and asked if he could possible add a special top coat he became very rude and unprofessional and basiclly yelled at me in front of the entire salon. So, as you can guess I NEVER returned and was at a loss for a nail place...well I found it at Simply Unique! They are extremely welcoming and the place is very clean, comfy and the sevice was amazing. My nails were perfect. They took their time and gave me and full hand and arm massage complete with warm towels! I have never received that at ANY nail salon with artifical nails. I just watched and episode of bridezillas where this bride was a little snot while getting her nails done and the manicurist starting talking smack about her In Vietnamese. I got a pedicure and the girl cut my big toe and I started to bleed. It hurt real bad. I got a teary eyed. I wad worried about infection so they brought over a new person who cleaned it and got the bleeding to stop all while speaking a language other than english. I felt like they were mad that I made a fuss about my bleeding toe and infection. The people here are nice and they offer free drinks. They seemed sorry about my toe and gave me a gift certificate to come back for a free pedicure which i appreciate. This nail salon was great! Everyone was so nice and even though it was so crowded, we didn't have to wait that long. The workers were very efficient and friendly. They were all Vietnamese, and so me speaking with them in Vietnamese also helped with the communication and friendliness. The girls were super friendly and did my nails very nicely! Might be the best place on earth! Trust me I AM a picky one, and Jessica and the whole crew are truly amazing. You get a beverage, when you enter they have an amazing polish selection. They run on time they always remember your name all while having smiles on their faces! After going to them for two years moving away for two years and returning they still remember the length, colors and shape I prefer my nails. They are the only nail salon in the city that does gel nails right, they look and feel real and have every color of powder and glitter under the sun. They listen to what you want and no matter how long it takes you walk out of there happy. We spend our hard earned money on a service and boy do they earn it... The massage is no pet pet pat pat its a real massage and Sabrina has never not thanked me for my business. Girls night!!! I came here with a couple of friends to kick off a girls night. Little did I know what I was getting myself into! The people that work here are very helpful. They immediately pointed me in the direction of the polish they thought would be the best for me. I decided to do a crazy, hot pink color (like highlighter hot pink!), because hey, it's only going to a week anyway, right? WRONG. It's been 3 weeks and they still look as absolutely perfect as they did when I left. I'm not kidding. I inspected them before I wrote this review. NOT A SINGLE CHIP ON ANY TOE! They stuck me in a nice cozy massage chair, offered me a beverage, gave me the most thorough, enjoyable pedicure and foot massage EVER. They also gave me a sea salt scrub and dipped my feet in warm paraffin wax. I am by no means dainty, in fact, I'm rather clumsy. In the past 3 weeks these tootsies have been to festivals, on boats, all around the city, walking the dog, in heels, in flip flops--you name it. I'm SO impressed that they have lasted. I actually live in Oakland, but I'd HAPPILY go the distance to come back to this place. This place sucks! Maybe because I'm from LA & I'm probably spoiled down south. I drove over there, which took 24 mins for 2 miles. She said 6:45p appointment. I arrive, and wasn't seated until 7:30p. The old lady with short hair and glasses did my pedicure and it was absolutely horrible! She soaked my feet, mind you, I wanted the deluxe mani/pedi they offer, but no. Anywho...she soaked my feet and tried taking off my gel pedicure with just a pic. Pulling it off. I finally had to tell her to use acetone! The guy doing my manicure had me soak my nails in oh so cold water! I finally just said no color, don't cut them, just remove the color and leave me alone. $50 for a crap job! So disappointed. I had a bad day as it was and was really looking forward to pampering myself. I wasted $50, absolutely waste of money! It ruined my day even more. I guess lesson learned & I will have to go somewhere else farther out. Ladies : spend the time & money on somewhere that looks fancy & farther out than these hole in the wall places. It's worth it. Just got my first mani/pedi from Simply Unique Nails and couldn't be happier. The person who did my nails asked me about my day, asked me to repeat my name so she could remember it and offered twice to get me a drink. She did an amazing job on my nails with super attention to detail and a fabulous foot and hand massage. Heaven!! They also have huge comfy massage chairs with side tables for your drink and your magazine, so you can relax while your nails are being done. She said they'll stay open late to accommodate last-minute arrivals. She also asked if it was my first time in the salon, and when I said yes, she said "thank you so much for coming here." This is the neighborhood salon that I can always rely on. The staff, Kelly, Sabrina, Bon, Jenny, are all fabulous and will treat you like family if you make this your regular go-to salon. I discovered this salon last year when I broke my nails after a botched attempt to remove my gel manicure myself. Bon was very attentive and understanding. He helped me repair my broken nails and made me feel much better, despite my inexperience with fixing nails. I returned to the salon several more times the following months to ensure my nails were healing properly. My favorite service here is the deluxe mani-pedi, which includes extra massage and paraffin treatment, perfect for those who are not in a rush. My only complaint about this place is that is is SO hit-and-miss. I go about once a week, and my manicures (while they are admittedly always long lasting) range from relaxing and comforting, to rushed (chill out with the cuticle scissors!) and, well, rushed. You can't really rush a manicure a do a great job, you know? I do have to note that the ladies are really nice, and always seem happy to be there, which is a good feeling. I'll keep coming back for sure, but if I want a relaxing pedicure or a gentle manicure, I choose another place. Prices are great. Can't beat em. read more

This will be my new go to salon when in SF. They did a great job on my mani/pedi for a reasonable price. My pedicure lasted almost a month. the manicure a full week. I also loved the fact that the offered an assortment of free drinks. While the color selection is smaller than some salons, I was not looking for a specific shade and had a hard time making up my mind between all the options they did have. I ended up picking a hot watermelon color. Divine! The staff was super sweet and efficient and I had one person working on my feet while another did my hands making it much quicker and it was the nest mani/pedi I've received in quite a while.
