I don't mind all this vegan jazz in the way of baked goods, but I just want to see them attempt a pound cake. We are in a generation where yes, we understand that the Paleolithic humans did not eat flour. And, so many people claim that eggs are bad for cholesterol, and drinking milk just seems downright unnatural--breast-based nutrition for a bovine creature. But, we are close enough to the 50's to where we know that America as a whole better be eating pie and cake. So, what happens when this new age still wants to eat baked goods but without eggs, butter, or milk? More food for though: if you are at a progressive coffee shop in any metropolitan, large city, you will undoubtedly find yourself paying a premium for whatever baked goods they have, i.e. healthy, vegan, gluten-free, etc. On the plus side, these starches, intended to soak up the caffeinated beverage in your stomach, are local. On the opposite hand, I am not much in the way of a "trendy" eater. Yeah, I will go for the occasional food truck or vegetarian-friendly restaurant, both of which seem to be hot right now, but as for the cool idea of following alongside with people claiming to be gluten intolerant, I find it to be hogwash.... for 99% of the people that can actually consume the protein formed when the rubber hits the road or flour hits water. I'll be honest, though. The double chocolate chip was pretty awesome. It was heavy on chocolate flavor and not super sweet--how in the world can you live without milk or eggs or butter? If you eat these, you can surely survive on calories alone. Additionally, I don't know what the heck this pea protein is, but I guess it provides some of that "non-sinful" character. I went my Crumbville and they were closed although they're hours said they were open. Then I go by sinfull and I'm told I have to pre-order. I give up at this this point. Update 11/3/12: I have now also had the pumpkin kolache and it was IN.SANE. OH. YES. I finally tried Sinfull Bakery this morning at the Farmers Market. They had samples for just about everything. I first tried the Everything Bar (like a wayy more delicious, softy and chewy Nature's Valley bar). I ended up buying a Vegetable Pot Pie, Everything Bar (obviously) and a Pumpkin Cheesecake Mini Loaf. So far, everything I've had from Sinfull is sweet, gooey perfection. I love that they use lots of healthy ingredients like oats, fruit, nuts and flax. Give 'em a try next time your at Saturday Farmers Market! read more

I off and on eat these delectable goodies. We first saw sinful at the eastside farmers market. We bought cinnamon rolls and a kolache. The cinnamon rolls are delicious and I love that they are homemade. We bought a dozen for an event and they went over very well and sinful was very responsive. Now that they are baking for whole foods and other vendors around Houston I'm not sure how good their turnover is. I now randomly buy the kolaches at whole foods but they are always hidden :-( The cookies are pretty good too but not my favourite vegan cookie I've ever had. I'm not super into the breadloaf but that is more so a preference...I'm just not into it. Now only if they made vegan baked donuts-that would be amazing. He said he wanted to pick up some fresh veggies and fruit, but to my surprise he just wanted to pick up a vegan pumpkin cream cheese pie! He's absolutely pure evil. Using my sweet tooth against me. I love cheesecake. I love pumpkin. So this was just a home run all the way. The consistency of the pie is so creamy, pumpkin-y, and just flat out delicious. You can't even tell that it's vegan! (Well at least to me, I don't eat a lot of milk products nowadays) It's really nice they take orders, and you can pick it up at the farmer's market rather than their location. Due to his crazy week schedule, he was never able to pick it up before they closed. This made it a little more fun. They have the option to sweeten with agave nectar, and the option to make it gluten free! I will def use sinfull for my next party/indulgence! read more

This vegetarian thing is really opening doors for me. Gah, I'm so late but I promise I'll get up to speed! I stumbled upon these pretty little cookies at Inversion Cafe. I had already eaten a burger and jammed fatty cheese covered fries down my throat- I figure a cookie would be the icing on the cake. Plus I just got paid so I was feeling rich. Anyways, I plucked up the Double Chocolate Chip cookie with Carob and Chocolate Chips. I felt a little bit better about my transgression when I saw that they were vegan- finally something redeeming. Upon close examination, this cookie looked a little like store bought and a lot like cardboard. And it fell apart in clumps. But the flavor was good, not to sweet but definitely not bordering on savoring. Perhaps more sugar and less salt could have been used to make it more cookie like... But it was good- I'm happy somebody is baking and vegan at that! read more

I just tried the carrot cake through Greenling and it is DIVINE! Delicious! So good! Best part is it's gluten free (not that I'm a die hard gluten free fan), and it's really good! I've tried other gluten free bakery items and most are dry and not very tasty. My 4 year old and husband agrees on how good the cake is. It's very light and moist. She recommended us the monkey bread that was made from left over cinnamon rolls, and also the Hamburger Helper Kolche (That is Still Vegan and very much so delicious) It's a Great place and everything is VEGAN. Went to the new HEB located in Bellaire yesterday and noticed the enticing cinnamon roll. I've always known about this bakery but never been due to the hours of it being opened. This cinnamon roll was everything. The texture, taste and icing was spot on compared to the non vegan version. The size was so huge that I split it with my grandfather who recently converted to veganism . Wanted to show him that being a vegan doesn't equate to eating boring bland food and tasteless desserts. I really like to give this place 4 stars or even 5. However..... We've been looking for some good cinnamon rolls for months now. SInfull Bakery came out to the Sugar Land Farmer's Market selling cinnamon rolls. The rolls were big and came with or without pecans. There's nothing better than good homemade cinnamon rolls for breakfast. The following morning we ate the cinnamon rolls for breakfast. They tasted very good. Not too much sweetness to make it too rich. They had just the right amount of sugar and cinnamon. While we were eating the rolls, two of us pulled out strands of hair. I was first. The 4" blondish hair was deep inside the roll. My hair is cut a lot shorter and is gray. My daughter also found a hair. Same thing, but in a different roll. I assume the bakers don't wear hair nets because this hair was in the middle of the roll. I started questioning what else does this cinnamon roll have in it. The rolls are good. Not Cinnabon good, but are a close second. They are certainly more healthier for you if a cinnamon roll can be classified as that. The search continues. read more

I recently found this bakery on yelp and wanted to try it out. I got the original cinnamon roll and breakfast kolache. Even though the kolache was just alright, the cinnamon roll was definitely the star of the show. The icing was not to sweet, and for six dollars, you get a humongous dessert that can last you more than one day! Make sure you check there website, because these desserts go out of stock fast! Last year, I took a painting class at HCC. In addition to giving me the chance to figure out if I had any artistic talent (still haven't figured that out, though I come up with some pretty off-the-wall stuff--big surprise), I got to hang out with some goofy people (damn, I still need to write my HCC review). Though I'm in my mid-twenties, I felt pretty old compared to the kids in their early-twenties, who went to lunch together. (Girl, at Little Bigs, Valley girl voice and all: "Sooo, how does this work?" Me, pointing: "You order sliders off of the menu." Girl: "I've never been here before. What do I do?" Me: "You choose your sliders, then order them." Girl: "I don't get it. Like, how does this work?" Me: "@#$^!!!!") Once, I begged off of going to lunch with them, as I'd wanted to go to the Highland Village Farmers Market, which meant that the two boys invited themselves along with me. That was all sorts of fun, as the boys commented that I was like a racecar driver (and they didn't even ride with me late at night), I had to stop by an ATM so one of them could get cash, and I checked out Sinfull Bakery with one of the boys at my heels. I've been a vegan, ovo-lacto vegetarian, pescetarian, and raw foods-ist (granted, my puny willpower meant that this lasted for only ten days), though having come off of all these dietary restrictions, which were onset by the desire to treat animals humanely, have made me numb to the plight of animals. I am now quite carnivorous. However, my past incarnations as non-meat eater meant that I was still interested by the concept of Sinfull Bakery, which purports to sell baked goods that are vegan and delicious. Sinfull Bakery has a stall at the Wednesday morning City Hall Farmers Market, as well as the Saturday morning Highland Village Farmers Market. It's also sold at Whole Foods in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Oklahoma; Central Market; and various hip coffee shops around town (Inversion, Antidote, Black Hole, etc.). That time at the farmers market, I picked up a cinnamon roll. It was giant and weighed at least a pound. I think it cost me $6. I dug in with my plastic fork, which bent mightily, but held strong. The exterior was fine, but the center regions tasted a little raw. I took it back, and they gave me another one, telling me they'd give me a refund if that one still tasted raw. It was better, though it was still extremely doughy in the center. I think Sinfull Bakery's cinnamon rolls are just really doughy. The frosting was of the brittle sugary variety, as opposed to the thick variety that Cinnabon sells (I haven't had Cinnabon since I was a kid, but, man, I used to love its frosting). My gentleboy companion picked up a pumpkin bread, which I remember mildly liking at the time. More recently, I picked up half a cinnamon roll at a coffee shop, and stuck it in the microwave. Heat didn't improve the frosting, and it was still incredibly sweet. I also picked up a pumpkin bread with cream cheese frosting, as well as chocolate chip cookies, from Central Market. The pumpkin bread was still pretty sweet, and the subcutaneous cream cheese, which was marbled on the top, resembled rock veins. Again, the cream cheese taste wasn't apparent, just the hits of sugared spices. The chocolate chip cookies had a decent texture of the crumbly variety, and the chocolate chips were semi-sweet. The actual cookie vaguely called to mind peanut butter. For vegans, Sinfull Bakery gets four stars, but for non-vegans, it gets two stars, as non-vegans have a lot more options, many of which are cheaper. Sinfull Bakery also offers kolaches, cupcakes, bars, and pies. read more

I met the Sinfull Everything Bar a few months ago when I was staying at a luxury hotel in Houston. I'm not a vegan but this bar is amazing! It's chewy, not chalky, sweet but not hummingbird food sweet, and studded with raisins and chocolate chips. One half of this bar fills me up for the morning and I feel like I'm eating candy. I don't live in Houston but now I have a box of these shipped to my house every month. I highly recommend them and can't wait to take them on my next hiking adventure. The mint chocolate cookies are great and the cinnamon rolls are a little raisin pillow of heaven. I am not vegan but a few samples of various items made me forget any preconceived notions I had of vegan sweets. Everything I tried (a few cookies and breads) was just good, it didn't need to be cautioned with a 'good for vegan' warning and it didnt have any funny aftertaste that would leave you wondering whats different about this cookie (which I expected). I had a bite of my wife's vegan-cream cheese and strawberry kolache. Think actual kolache, not kolache shop meat/fruit syrup stuffed in a roll. The bread was soft with a hint of sweetness, the strawberry/cream cheese on top was very fresh tasting...tasted like real fruit jam instead of sugar glaze with a hint of fruit. The bread is a real winner. Prices are a bit high but the sizes are generous. You need two hands for the cinnamon rolls. The ingredients on the back are mostly organic and none appear to be items whipped up in a chemical laboratory....food made from ingredients that are also food! Novel concept these days. Cheaper cookies can be found but you get what you pay for and your insides will regret it. They also offer gluten-free and reduced sugar options. Found the jumbo cinnamon roll at a health store, atleast I thought it was jumbo. I do kind of wish that they had the nutrition facts and things on there, but that's okay. It was HUGE literally the size of my face. I split it in half, and I just finished the first half. To keep it real, the cream cheese frosting was DELICIOUS. Literally so sweet I couldn't believe it was vegan. The cinnamon roll however was a different story, to me it was just kind of dry and bland, no cinnamon flavor, but there was literally SO much frosting so I was satisfied either way.
