TW: antisemitism with threats of M*rd*r, R*pe On Saturday, August 12th, I went to the bar Sing Sing on avenue A and 5th for my friend's birthday. Sing Sing has individual karaoke rooms, but also has a karaoke machine in the front where you can order from the bar. Within the first 15 minutes we were there, a man grabbed the mic at karaoke machine at the bar and started yelling "kill the J*ws" over and over again. I quietly went outside to get the security guard to let him know and ask that this man be kicked out. I then went back inside only to watch the security guard go over to this man, point at ME, and leave. The guy with the mic then set his sights on me. He started screaming "snitch b*tch" into the mic, saying he was going to k*ll me. I went outside again to the security guard, this time I begged him to kick this man out, updated him that he was now threatening to k*ll me and that I was scared. While I was speaking to the security guard, the guy with the microphone leaned out the door, put two middle fingers in the air at me, and then started yelling "I'm going to f*cking r*pe you snitch b*tch," in front of the security guard. At this point there was a line of people at the front of Sing Sing, they overheard me and said that they would not come in the bar if this man wasn't kicked out. Only then did the security guard go inside. I went in shortly after, assuming the man would be kicked out. He wasn't. The security guard simple spoke to him again and returned outside. I went to the back of the bar because this man was still threatening to k*ll and r*pe me and now he was standing by the exit. I couldn't leave. I went to the female bartenders in the back and tried to explain what was happening. I asked if there was somewhere I could go bc I didn't feel safe and he kept threatening me. The woman I was speaking with said, "I don't know, there I guess," gesturing at the corner of the bar. I asked if I could go into the karaoke room early since it was empty, but they said my party hadn't checked in yet. Mind you my party of friends was trying to prevent this man from reaching me at the back of the bar, I tried to tell them this but the bartenders till refused to let me into the room. During this time the man was still screaming that he wanted to k*ll me, r*pe me, calling me snitch bitch, calling for the death of Jews, all while STILL being served drinks by the male bartender. The security guard came in a third time to talk to this man, but he was only kicked out once a female bartender approached him after saying, "I don't care who he is, this is enough, I'm kicking him out!" After she kicked him out she came and checked on me. She seemed very kind. I asked her why he wasn't kicked out immediately, to which she responded, "oh he knows a lot of people, and trust me, he gets way more wild than that" with a chuckle. As if calling for genocide, and threatening me with m*rd*r and r*pe were just characteristics of a wild man. Since the guy was gone I rejoined my friends, only to see this man outside with the security guard joking around with a mixed drink in his hand. Later that night, after the guy with the mic was gone, I asked the security guard why he didn't kick him out the first time, to which he responded, "I'm not allowed to kick him out, and I'm not allowed to get physical with him. He told me if I kicked him out he would get physical with me and I can't get physical with him, so I let him stay." Moral of story, do not go to this bar. They will not protect you. They will not kick people out if they are threatening you. This man is a regular and has this type of outburst, threatening m*rd*r and r*pe, often, per the staff of the bar. To the women that want to go to this bar for a celebration, do not risk your personal safety going here. There are many other karaoke bars in NYC, I would suggest patronizing one of those. read more

This is a favorite go-to spot for Friday and Saturday nights. There is a full bar with karaoke and you sing in front of everyone when it is your turn. If you're more shy, there are per hour private rooms of various sizes, depending on how many people are in your group. You can also have your drinks served to you while in the rooms. The song selection is huge and pretty up to date with the times with oldies and classics thrown in there, too. The bartenders are fairly friendly but mostly doing their job (something I wouldn't say is a bad thing). You can be sure to meet a person who will introduce you to their group during the time that you are here. I have gone here on different nights but the busiest nights are always Saturday. Go with a group of guys and meet girls. Go with a group of girls and meet guys. The atmosphere is very relaxed due to all of the alcohol that is being consumed in order to work your way to being able to sing in front of a bunch of strangers that may later become friends. One thing: Drinks can be stronger for the price. read more

I have been here a couple of times, and last year it seemed like a completely different karaoke place. The staff used to appear to have fun, or at the very least not completely hate their jobs. I went in here the other night just hoping to have an easygoing time with my friends. From the get go it was very cold, unwelcoming, and dark inside. I actually overheard the bartender with plugs & tattoos making fun of us, as well as all the other people there. Everyone but the one girl, Joy I think her name is, seems to hate what they do and everyone that comes in. Not the kind of vibe I'm looking for when just trying to have a fun night with friends. Don't come here unless you want to get made fun of by miserable workers who take out their self loathing on patrons just trying to have a good time. read more

this place is skeezy. the manager uses his position to take advantage of young intoxicated college kids (he's best friends with Bryan Singer -- go figure!) and he has a history on here of physically abusing patrons. not only that.. he will take private security footage and send it around town -- you drunk and fall over at sing sing? it's going to be on Facebook. you walk by sing sing having a bad hair day? doesn't matter.. public street doesn't mean anything to Drew the manager.. it's going to be sent around. you are going to me mocked. that's the type of place this is. I don't have a star to give because this place SUCKED (but i couldn't post the review without selecting at least a star). We paid more than necessary for a dive of a room with no waitress service. Each person in the room had to individually go upstairs to the bar to get a drink. Each of the people that we were with tipped 20% per drink and then when we were leaving we were asked to tip 20% on the entire room WHEN ZERO SERVICE WAS GIVEN. What was the point of a service charge when we didn't have any service. I would go anywhere in the entire city before I would go here again or recommend it to anyone that I love or hate. read more

I never write reviews, but this place is despicable. Save yourself a bad music selection, drunken servers, disgusting facilities, and a fraudulent business model and go to literally any other karaoke bar you can find. These people are practiced, conniving scammers. Their entire model is based on exploiting their unintelligible policy to extract absurd amounts of money from their customers. I can't emphasize enough how skeezy they are. I will go out of my way to make sure no one I care about ever visits this place. read more

This sing sing used to be my go to spot in alphabet city. However over the year this place started getting filthy. Last few times I went, place was filthy and staff were giving biggest attitude ever. This place gets a 3 star because sing sing on ave a and sing sing on st marks pl started my love for karaoke. However, this place definitely needs to be managed better. If this place make some kind of improvement with renovation and change of management, I will update this review, However for now... AVOID! read more

Avoid this place at all costs. Last night the juiced up bouncers kicked my friend out for asking the bartender a question and psychically assaulted him by throwing him into a pile of garbage on the ground. He's all bruised and scratched up. Get a real job instead of messing with innocent kids because you need some sort of power trip. This place is lucky we aren't pressing charges. IF YOU ARE FROM ANYWHERE BESIDES NYC YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED. If your ID is not a NY State ID this bouncer will automatically assume your ID is fake regardless of how many ID verifications you have. Stole my ID was only able to get it back when I flagged down a police man. I am 25. I watched this bouncer let an underage kid with a fake ID in right before me (I know this because the underage person in front of me told me their ID was fake). I'd give it no stars if I could, Out side the place is FILTHY, always disgusting DRUNK SCARY people laying in-front, bothering you for money, cigarettes etc... or they are laying passed out in their piss vomit or god knows what else. Was not impressed with the inside, I won't expand on that, The out door experience is enough to send me running the opposite direction. If you don't know how to run a business or properly staff your establishment then don't charge people. What did we pay for??????? NOT THE SERVICE. ALL 30 of the people in the group paid 20% individual tips BECAUSE THEY HAD TO GO TO THE BAR SINCE NO WAITRESS WAS PROVIDED FOR THE ROOM THAT WE PAID FOR. Yet, we were charged an 18% service tip for the room - for 0 service - DO NOT GO HERE!!!!! There are plenty of other karaoke bars in the city this place is a waste of time and money. read more

The other night I was there at the bar minding my own business. Some antisemite @$$ took the public mike and was shouting the most awful vile crap. He was harassing this other group of people specifically, at least this one person. Security did nothing. Wait Staff did nothing. Management did nothing. He kept getting served. I left and I am never going back there and I am telling everyone I know who like karaoke of the many better options. Avoid at all costs. read more

Had a good time in this sketchy spot, but on the way out one of our friends dropped their wallet. The bouncer returned it, but minus $50 in cash that was in it. We went back to ask about it and were yelled at and called some nasty names by 2 bouncers. Will never be going back. Extremely poor service while we were there and abuse/thievery on the way out. I love this place. They sell me booze and I drink it. Bartenders are a fucking express lane to blackout city. Their dedication to my intoxication is truly admirable. I rented a private room with a group of friends on Friday. We had a great time. There is something that is just a little off about this place and I can't quite put my finger on it. With that being said everyone was friendly and we sang our hearts out. They had a great music selection. I have a feeling I will find myself back there at some point. read more

When you reserve a room and don't have a waitress for the room and are required to leave the room and go to the bar to get your own drinks, you should not be charged a tip on top on the fee for the room you. Brilliant time here for a friends bday on a saturday afternoon 15 of us booked a private room they had a disco ball in the room and a service button to call the staff for drinks. each room was decorated in with a famous singer we were bob dylan's room really cheap especially dur weekend happy hours will be going back soon. read more

Sing Sing has always been one of my go to Karaoke bars. I've been coming here for years and always had a blast! I've met some really cool people over the years. And the crowd is always supportive of other singers... And the staff is great! read more
