So...I have avoided coming to this place since I tend to not like buffets anymore unless I'm brunching in Vegas. I went here as my friend pleaded that for urgent hunger pains this is the place to go. Well I've tried it and I must say...looks can be deceiving. The decor is old cafeteria style, and very clean. The service are nice, respectful, and unlike any other place, they do not feel entitled to tips (though I tipped highly). The food selection was smaller than Golden Corral. However due to the lack of random screaming children touching everything , and the ability to have select foods only, the food here was twice as good as Golden Corral. Don't get me wrong, some stuff was still stale. But overall it was a great place. Salad Bar Everything good Only room for improvement is the mismatch temperatures between pasta salads and lettuce e Chicken- delicious and perfectly seasoned Spaghetti- I'd eat another bow 3.) Overpriced...overcooked...under-seasoned...underwhelming. This has to be the most disappointing buffet-style restaurant that we've gone to in quite a while. The waitress was right on top of things, which is the only reason for two stars instead of one. The food was less than spectacular from start to finish. Almost everything had been cooking or sitting too long. The flavors were "off" on several dishes, and paying $40 (with tip) for two of us seemed way overpriced for what we got. My husband and I ate Thanksgiving dinner today at Sirloin Stockade and the meal was very good, it reminded us of our Mother's Thanksgiving dinners. When you pay over $10 for buffet it should be 100%worth it, there is not to much of anything on the buffet that was really worth the price! The entrees were dry tasteless a week old tough or the flip side someone got in a hurry and didn't cook the chicken all the way, the salad the deeper you dig the worse it was, the desserts were stale dried out tasteless, the sodas were watered down, the only absolute plus to it was the rolls were fresh and the butter was a welcome tribute, other than that it was not much. I know that after a period of time it gets hard to keep people from getting complacent but that's when I think that the manager should take it upon themselves and sample what is leaving the kitchen, there is no way to say that wilted vegetables are presentable when it can be seen from with the customers eyes that it truly time to change the veggies, if a restaurant is putting out subpar quality products that is because the manager isn't doing their job period. Taylor Tx has a real problem with the restaurants in their city and for me to spend my money on the food in this town it truly has to get a lot better!!! read more

The first time we visited, the food was okay and all the selections were available. The second time, only a few weeks ago, the food wasn't good and the service was slow. It took a long time to get drink refills and the buffet remained out of several items for the entire time we were there. My first visit here for a meeting. The server who was assigned to us did an outstanding job. All the staff was friendly and very helpful. Food was great.. steaks were cooked to order and everything looked fresh. Buffet was clean and well stocked and salads looked fresh. I can only give 4 stars to a buffet restaurant, because, well.. its a BUFFET restaurant. The service was excellent, the price can't be beat, and they had the HUGEST strawberries I've ever seen. Don't ask what I was doing waay out in Taylor Texas - it is a long story. Suffice to say that one of the locals recommended the Sirloin Stockade and I took him up on his recommendation. Food quality has gone down this past year n a half. We would go weekly or every other week and now we only go maybe 4 times a year. Dried out food or over cooked mushy, change in product quality they cook with and cooks who are not consistent with recipes. read more

I really like it here. The food is good and you have many choices. The only thing I would say is go early and do lunch. The food definitely isn't as good in the evening. I think they cook too much for lunch and it sits out for dinner. I know they keep the rolls all day. They are like rocks on the bottom by late afternoon. read more

One of the worst buffets I have gone to. The service was alright,but the food really blows. The chicken was really chewy and didn't have a good taste, also the meatloaf was nasty there is really no way I can really describe it. The sausage was horribly cut, and the pizza was burnt from the crust. Dessert didn't even help with getting my rating up, and the ice cream machine wasn't working so really didn't help with getting the horrible taste the meatloaf out of my mouth. When I was a kid, we raised hogs to slaughter for ourselves. Kind of reminds me of that. We call it "Hog and Trough" Style. They fill up the trough, and people of all makes and sizes run to it, some sneezing, some wiping their noses, some pulling out big 'ol handkerchiefs andd wiping and then stickin them back in their pocket, and oh yeah, the 7 year olds that cough and sneeze and stick their hands in and lick their hands and drop the ladles right in the middle of the portions. I think you get the idea. But if it's all the dough you got, and you need a hog size portion, then head on down. Let's face it. What quality raw food do you think a restaurant has to start with to sell you all you can eat for ten bucks? Let's just say, it ain't gor'may! LOL and remember, no horse du vers. read more

Why do I go here again? I have been here at least 4 times now, and each time I am unsatisfied with the meal as a whole. Nothing is great and the taste is sub par, but something brings me back. I think its the fact that I can go there and for about 9 dollars eat as much steak as I can handle. Back in college our cafeteria had grade f beef, at least that's what we were told. It was the worst beef you can imagine, and this place has much better beef than that. So i guess its OK when thinking about all the steaks I have ever eaten. For as bad as I and others make it out to be, it does at least offer quite a bit as a buffet goes, there is a salad bar, that is usually very fresh, many dressing. Also there are at least 4 soups, and plenty of breads to chose from. The hot food area has many types of meat to eat, fried chicken, fired fish, hush puppies, fires, mashed potatoes and gravy. Then the steaks, I am not sure what Cut it is they serve, but its meaty and works, you can ask for it any way you like but will probably get it how it is. There is also some decent sausage that comes off teh grill and chicken. Give it a try if you want a cheapo buffet, but don't expect the best you have ever had. read more

BIG EATERS - Buffet is great. The all you can eat has a great variety. I love the salad bar, and miss the lemon bars when they are out. Steak is about a 3 - but then you are not in a high class steak place. So -- Tuesdays the steak is on the buffet. IF YOU DO NOT EAT LOT - My husband has health issues and eats very little. When we go to S. Stockade I get his meal in a take out styro and am charged by the ounce. He usually is filled with bake chicken - mashed with gravy - and one veggie. Drink and some times a small pudding. This works for us. I HATE GONG PLACES WHERE THEY DO NOT OFF AN OPTION FOR SMALL EATERS. I often ask if they will let him eat for a childs rate - sometimes they say yes and that works also. To pay full price is not good for him. We didn't expect this to be a buffet! I was cool with it though! My husband wanted a chicken fried steak. Which was cool, they also had a little menu you could order other things that weren't the buffet. So either you can order or do the buffet. Or both if your that hungry. So I got the buffet! I always feel like I'm in heaven at a salad bar! So that's the first thing I always go for! Then I went and checked out the rest after I ate my salad! Hummm that's a good way to do it, so you don't go crazy on all the really bad stuff right? So I got the cold pizza! I didn't like it, then I just pretty much decided just to do the fried chicken, catfish and hushpuppies! And that was a winner! The seasonings were just like home! I'm not really sure what all can be said about this other than its what you would expect from a buffet... They had some good meat choices, fresh fruit and several good desserts. There were also several items that had bren sitting for awhile. Kids under 3 eat for free, which definitely helps when you're dining on a budget. Make sure to pay attention to your bill. If you like reasonably priced buffets with a good, solid selection of food, this is a good place to go in Taylor, TX. If you like pot roast, their's is probably the best you'll find at any buffet. Their green beans are always good, as is their broiled fish is if it hasn't been sitting on the bar too long, and they always have a tasty artisan bread. Their salads are always fresh, and they have a good selection of fresh vegetables, or prepared salads if you prefer those. Finally hit this place after passing it for years. Haven't been to one since I was a little kid in the KCKS area. For those on the fence, it's worth the visit. The place has a standing menu AND a standing buffet. The starvin' marvins in us went for the buffet, and I have to say it was pretty decent! The food was hot...fish filet, baked chicken, and some other items I wolfed down. I even had a salad, which was better-than-average. The place was clean (including the restroom) and the usual turn-off's were not readily apparent because staff patrolled the buffet regularly (Like seeing the handle of the tongs laying in the food itself...I really hate it when people do that...philistines!) You walk in and order at a cashier. Order a steak or choose the hot buffet, salad and soup bar. Pick your own seat and your steak is brought out to you. Immediately head to the salad bar or Buffett if you did not order a steak. On the buffet they have hot foods as well as beef and ham sliced for you. Now, before you go all crazy and say, "why did you give it one star," it's because of breakfast. If you get there when the doors open and have breakfast it's a good strong 3. However, we dined there on a Thursday night, everything on the buffet tasted like frozen leftovers from Thanksgiving that were being served on New Year's Eve. 1. Most of what was out there wasn't stale. 2. It was pretty much all cold. 3. Regular menus weren't being used as the meatloaf looked like Prison slop, 80% bread, with some kind of Mexican flair for the sauce. 4. I could have broken a window with the "yeast rolls" that were out on the bar. After 2 tries of receiving Steak so well done that a Pitbull couldn't chew it, (requested it medium rare), we gave up and left. They win, hands down. You have been warned. Went in here a few months ago with my boyfriend and son. First off go to meat station and asked for a medium well and it was actually very well done almost to the point of being burnt. I decide to try it anyways and it was as tough as a leather strap about as flavorless too might I add. Potatoes we're ice cold. Rolls we're hard and cold. Have frequented this place over a period of several years now, driving from Elgin some 20 miles away...and over the years it seems to have gotten worse. Went there yesterday and that will be the last time! The veggies (cauliflower, broccoli, carrots) were all unseasoned with absolutely no taste. (Apparently they just get boiled in water and that's it.) The fish was over cooked and dry, the roast stringy, the sausage...well, not even close to what's available in Elgin. Food was good for the most part. At least what I chose to put on my plate. Some of the food however was dried out and ready for the trash. It was 5:00 pm when I ate here so maybe it was early. The service at the table was good. Two women were there with about 4-5 kids. They sat and visited with each other while ignoring the children, who were running around the place jumping on booth seats, climbing on tables and nothing was said by the women/parent or manager for at least half an hour. One of the children ran around the booths playing tag with another child and nearly knock down a man with a cane. We were a nervous wreak while trying to eat our dinner. The rest room was one of the filthiest I have ever seen in a restaurant and in fact decided I could wait until we made it home. I would look for another place to eat in the future! read more

Well it doesn't suck..... That is the farthest I will go for a complement for this place. I've been here with my father because he's 75 and to people of that age a buffet is a genius idea. But it's not great, and I can't, in good conscience, let this place have the highest rating in town. I mean it's probably better than Applebees, but that's not really a badge of honor.
