We visited the new{er} location of MasFajitas and I will say compared to the old MasFajitas, this one is much better! The menu seemed completely different with a ton of selections. The queso blanco and original queso are both great, the birria tacos were really good but did have a few pieces of overly chewy meat. The rice and beans weren't great at all which was a bummer. The refried beans had a really strange flavor and the charro beans were nothing but bacon fat with no actual beans. Margaritas are some of the best in town though. The service was really good. Despite them being quite busy on a Friday afternoon, we only waited maybe 10 minutes for a table and received our food really quickly. There's nothing too special about the ambiance here but that's okay. It's a solid small town TexMex experience.

When we visited the restaurant on a Saturday evening, the place was crowded. The crowd, the smell of the food and the nicely decorated interior raised my expectations from the place. We got our table in 15 minutes. I asked for vegetarian options and the server was knowledgeable to point to all of the options. I placed an order for Veggie Fajita and then everything started going downhill from there. The order took some time to come to the table. It took another couple of minutes for the tortillas which was part of the dish. Other thing to mention is I got flour tortillas instead of corn tortillas, which was my order. I did not want to wait anymore so I just ate what i got. For my order I chose black beans because that is vegetarian but the one I got had a chunk of meat in it. When told about it, the server apologized and got it replaced but consider this happening to a person who is allergic to meat. The fajitas were cooked well but were bland. Guacamole was just okay. Huge shout out to our server Isabella who made the experience better even after all of that. She is welcoming, friendly and empathetic.

That's what drew me to Conejos in Leander. After browsing the menu, I could tell this wasn't simply another Tex-Mex restaurant. It embraces the traditions of both sides of the Río Grande while adding a few creative touches of its own. Tucked into a shopping center just off the 183 Toll, Conejos welcomes you with rich colors and décor that proudly celebrates its Mexican roots. I started with the esquites, or Mexican street corn served in a cup. Growing up, I ate plenty of elote from street vendors in Mexico, and while this version comes with the comforts of air conditioning and clean tables, it doesn't sacrifice any of the bold flavors. Sweet corn, creamy sauce, chile, cheese, and lime come together in a way that reminds you why this humble street food has become a favorite on both sides of the border. For my entrée, I ordered the birria quesadilla. Birria has become one of Austin's hottest food trends, but Conejos does it justice. Tender, slow-braised beef is tucked inside a flour tortilla that's griddled until crisp, with cheese caramelized along the outside rather than simply melted within. Served alongside rice and beans, it strikes that familiar balance between traditional Mexican cooking and the hearty Tex-Mex comfort many of us grew up enjoying. Every bite felt both familiar and refreshingly different. The hospitality matched the food. I asked for recommendations, and the staff took the time to explain the menu with genuine enthusiasm instead of rushing me through the line. The owners also operate the neighboring Rabbit Hole bar, carrying the rabbit theme from one business to the next. I'll save that visit for another day, but if the food and hospitality at Conejos are any indication, I already have a good reason to come back.

The restaurant was very busy, and the wait for indoor seating was fairly long, although outdoor seating was available immediately. Unfortunately, the food was disappointing. I'm a picky eater, but even considering that, the meals lacked flavor and did not feel worth the price. The atmosphere and location were decent, but overall the experience did not justify the wait or the cost. Sadly, this is not a place I would return.

I've traveled all over Texas and across the U.S., and I can say without hesitation that Las Cocinas Mexican Grill is hands-down the BEST Mexican restaurant I have ever been to -- and that includes all of Austin. My family and I come here several times a week, even though we don't live close by. That alone should tell you how incredible this place is. Must-try favorites (do NOT skip these): The Margaritas - Very strong and absolutely perfect. Order them half & half (half on the rocks, half frozen). Trust me -- you'll thank me later. Nachos Al Carbon (Appetizer) - The beef fajita meat is out of this world. Tender, flavorful, and unforgettable. Beef Fajitas Cremosas (Entrée) - Get them with EXTRA sun-dried tomatoes. Oh. My. God. I have never had anything like this in my life, and it's something I crave several times a week. Stuffed Jalapeños - So good I sometimes order them as my entire meal. And the onion rings they're served on? Easily the best onion rings I've ever had anywhere. Beyond the food, the staff is absolutely amazing. From the moment you walk in, they make you feel like family -- warm, welcoming, and genuinely happy you're there. That kind of service is rare, and it's one of the many reasons this place is so special to us. And yes -- I always forget to take pictures of my food because I eat it before I remember to take photos for a review . That should tell you everything you need to know about how good it is. We are incredibly thankful for Las Cocinas. It's not just our favorite Mexican restaurant -- it's our favorite restaurant, period, and the best in the entire area by a mile. Perfect in every way.

I mentioned to my wife that these kinds of places often have kitchens and boy we were in luck. The man in charge, Albert, descended on us and started simultaneously asking what we wanted to order AND praising the virtues of his tamales, among other things. But he had me at "Birria". After being introduced to birria tacos by my lifelong friend, Joel, I have been a huge fan ever since. So we called an audible and decided to get an order for takeout (Albert could convince you to buy anything, I think). We got two orders of Corn QuesaBirria Tacos and the Jalapeño Popper Specialty Taco. Both were great and I especially liked the Birria Tacos, even eating my wife's portion... "You going to eat that?"
