I rented a Tacoma here to move some things to storage. When I picked up the truck it was trashed! It had dents and scratches ALL OVER it. The inspection form only had a few of the damaged areas listed, and when I tried to amend the list, some shady dude started wiping the scratches with a wet rag so you couldn't see them, but they were still there. He said I would have to get back in line and rent a different vehicle if I wanted the damage listed. There were no other trucks available. The interior was still very dirty from the previous customer and even had their rental agreement with all their information. The windows had fingerprints all over, and grease from someone's hair! The bus drivers were all nice but they play lounge room jazz music super loud. I'm really glad it was snowing when I returned the truck, because I think they would have tried to blame the pre existing damage on me. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place. Sixt has a very punitive reservation model. We booked and our airline cancelled prior to our flight and although we immediately contacted Sixt they charged us $200. I would highly recommend using another provider. read more

Absolutely horrible. Show up to pick up our GLS and it was trashed. I had to wait until they found one that was "acceptable." When I picked up the car, it was snowing and they suggested I walk around the vehicle to note any damage. I did not see any due to the outside being so dirty from the snow. Once we returned the car, everything seemed smooth until I just received a notification that I am being charged about $150 dollars for a "stone chip" on the windshield that is "not in the drivers view." I will NEVER use this company again. Thought I would try them out but I was wrong. I have rented plenty of cars for business and is has never happened. In short, do yourself a favor and stay away from this place. All the other negative reviews are true. Like a lot of other people I took the bait of "low price" rental. In reality, this is a place that can bring you multiple waves of trouble. To add to the problems of awful shuttle and terrible customer service some other reviews point to, here are two extra things I experienced. First, we booked a luxury SUV (GLC or X3) and the first thing the staff, Cody, told us was that there was no more AWD GLC or X3 and we needed to upgrade to an VW Atlas so that we didn't violate the Colorado traction law (while in reality, the van I took from Aspen to Denver one hour before the rental was a rear-wheel-drive). He said he could give us "an aggressive discount", which bumped our out-the-door cost from $290 to $570. He used the typical tactic of whispering to my ear saying that this was a great discount and I should not let the other customers know. In reality, another group of people behind me in line, whom I got to know at the airport, got an AWD GLC. He then left and "went to his manager for the approval of this discount", coming back with an increased price of $630. I said there was no way we would rent that car. He then reduced the price back to $570. This is just typical technique of using "your manager" to negotiate the price. Because it was close to midnight and we still need to get to Silverthorne, we took the deal. In retrospect, I would recommend anyone in that situation to go to another rental company: there is simply no way I can trust those people. They also make this more difficult by setting their office to a remote location so it would take quite some effort to find another rental. Another headache is that a couple days after returning the car, Sixt (probably people at the headquarter) sent me an email saying that the receiving branch filed a damage report regarding a stone crack on the windshield (though the email was kind enough to point out that it was not an accusation of damage, but rather part of their investigation). In reality, there was no accident or scratch of any kind during our rental. The person I returned the car to had a careful examine of the car and said there was no issue. This seems to be another way of the DIA branch trying to make profit. read more

Deceitful service in Denver. If you accidentally get on a toll road, they will charge you a $5 fee for each toll - that means if you get on the toll, you get charged $10. ($5 for getting on and $5 for getting off). The signs are not clear and there is a lot of construction. I was also charged the same toll for 3 days prior when I did not drive on the toll road (to my knowledge - I contacted the CO dept of trans to dispute but they told me they have no way to look up info due to the amount of rental car turnover and I have to go through Sixt). They will not waive the fee and the upfront toll pass is ridiculous. On top of all that, they charged the additional sales tax on the tolls and admin fee at an extra 11.25% and another 8.35%!!! That means I was charged $35.44 for driving on the toll road once on the way back to the airport. Oh yeah, the truck was dirty. read more

I was so worried after I booked on Hotwire and saw the reveal of this company. The reviews were terrible. When we arrived to the airport, the shuttle was prompt and driver helpful. Anthony at the front desk was very friendly and it did not feel like he was pressuring us to upgrade or purchase extras. At drop off, Steven was super helpful and made the return easy. Four stars only because the car was a little weird (auto braked on us when we were driving down a commercial street), but overall it was a very positive experience. I booked a rental in advance, and later decided I simply wanted to change who the reservation was under so someone else could pick it up. I called, emailed, tried every possible method to contact them. There phone system no matter what extension you call goes to no one and just hangs up on you. I tried changing it online which is what their phone prompt recommends before hanging up on you. Ended up accidentally canceling my reservation. I finally got an email response 4 DAYS LATER and because I canceled they would NOT reinstate it. And they screwed me out of my rental since I paid up front. The force you to pay up front for a reason, because a it's a scam. I ended up having to pay for a rental twice and just used Hertz instead. Please never never never use Sixt, you will regret it. I would give zero stars if possible. Their website states 'option to purchase cancellability' on checkout screen. When you get to the checkout screen this option is not available. After I paid in full (thinking I was just giving a credit card to hold) the reservation, I contacted Sixt IMMEDIATLY as I had wanted to purchase the canacellability option. I was not trying to cancel my reservation, nor make changes to the date...just add and pay for the cancelability option. After several emails back and forth within the next 3 hours of placing the reservation, they would not help me, nor show any good will in allowing to add cancelability to a car reservation that won't even ocrr for 7 more weeks. We got left at the airport with NO PICK UP with 3 kids close to midnight, they dropped the call and were no help at all. Worst place ever.

This company sucks. I waited at the airport 47 minutes in 24 degree weather and the shuttle never showed up. I finally got a hold of someone at the counter who said they could not get a hold of anyone and saw the gps of the shuttle was not moving. She recommended a call Expedia to get a refund. Then when Expedia contacted them they denied the refund. I called the car rental car company and they basically called me a liar and said the shuttle were working even though I was standing in front of their exact pick up location for 47 minutes and watched the online GPS tracker show the shuttles not moving. Better to stick with a major brand that has reliable service and cares more about their reputuation and customers. read more

Check in and drop off were easy and efficient. The problem was that I reserved a midsize SUV, "Ford Edge or similar,". I own a Ford Edge, so I know we can fit all of our gear in it. When I arrived, I was told the only "midsize SUV" that was available was a Toyota RAV4...definitely NOT midsized. No way we could fit 3 ppl and our gear. So I was forced to upgrade "by choice" to a full sized Chevy Traverse. The car was fine, but it added over $200 to our final bill. I guess that's one way to make extra $$ from your new customers. Don't make the mistake we made thinking a German company would be efficient and on point - do yourself a favor and avoid Sixt at all costs!! The short story: They didn't completely document all damages to the vehicle before renting it out, they claimed the fuel tank was full when it was only 3/8 full, a maintenance light came on Day 2 of our rental, we were charged for not returning the car fueled up because they missed their own memo about the 3/8 full tank, and when we called asking to speak with a supervisor we were promised a call back and never received one. Here's the full story. Our flight was delayed 3 1/2 hours so we didn't make it by midnight when Sixt closed. I couldn't blame Sixt for our delayed flight, but upon arrival I did jealously eye the other rental car companies which were still open and regretted not booking my reservation with them. After an expensive 1 hour Lyft ride to our Airbnb, the next morning we took a detour back to DEN to retrieve our Sixt rental car. There was a single agent at the front desk but she was reasonably fast, so no complaints there. We get our keys and find our vehicle in the lot, and quickly identify two additional damages not listed in the rental paperwork. We find an employee to help us document these damages, costing us an unnecessary 15 minutes. Annoying but no biggie. We then drive out of the lot and suddenly realize the fuel tank is only 3/8 full even though our paperwork claimed it was completely full. So we turn back around, and now there is noone available to help us. There are two other guys standing around, but "it wasn't their job" to handle this. After waiting a good 10 minutes, the original guy finally appears and says he'll fuel up the tank for us. But their gas pump doesn't work, so he has to just make note of the 3/8 full tank and we have to return it at the same level. Anyone who's ever rented a car before knows how difficult it is to return it at a certain fuel level - the rental company always ends up getting some free fuel out of the customer. So after wasting another 30 minutes getting this issue resolved, my boyfriend insists on getting email confirmation that the 3/8 full fuel tank has been recorded in their system - thank goodness he did so considering the events that followed. On Day 2 of our rental, 2 1/2 hours away from Denver, a maintenance light turns on. At first we were stressed out thinking it was the engine light but thanks to Google we were relieved to learn it was the emissions warning light. So we decided to be bad environmentalists and ignore the light and carry on with our vacation plans. Fast forward to when we returned the vehicle - it was a speedy process, the woman checking in the car didn't do an inspection or consult any paperwork - we were told it would all be done later. The driver of the Sixt airport shuttle kindly loaded my suitcase into the shuttle, and whisked us away to the airport. Then the bill comes, and what do you know, we've been charged an additional $100 for returning the fuel 3/8 full. My boyfriend has to call Sixt to fix their error, and luckily he has the confirmation email stating that the tank was only 3/8 full when we got the vehicle. After the call he receives an invoice with the correct price. But it's not over! The next day he receives ANOTHER bill for the incorrect amount and has to call AGAIN. That customer service representative forwarded him an invoice, and after getting off the phone he realized it was the exact same invoice he had received a day earlier. So he calls a THIRD TIME and asked to speak with a supervisor, and was told the supervisor was in a meeting and would return his call. Guess what? To this day the supervisor hasn't called us. But the day after he received a final corrected invoice. The 3 biggest flaws with Sixt are 1) their inattention to vehicle status before renting out to customers, 2) their ineptitude at updating rental records, and 3) their careless attitude about keeping their word and calling back a waiting customer. For all the time and trouble Sixt caused us before, during, and after our rental period, they should have apologized and knocked a few bucks off our rental cost. But they don't care. And for that I will never return to Sixt, me or the other 3 people who were on this trip with me. If you're considering renting with Sixt, YOU'VE BEEN WARNED. read more

Story continues. When we got to the location to pick up the car... even though we had pre-reserved the car, the line was (almost) out the door. They finally said it's because the computers were down. So everything had to be done manually. Ok...that happens. Also, there was a lady who worked there that was her first day and I think the fact that she walked around and offered the customers coffee or water was great! (KUDOS). Someone suggested that they just pass around the forms and we can fill out our own forms (the manager did not want to do that)... oh well. So all in all...I lost an hour of vacation time...no big deal. I am going up a star for the water and coffee and the great humor that lady used to keep everyone clam (not bad for her first day!). If I could give "no stars" I would! We booked a car in advance and prepaid online. The choice was, "Pay now and save money, or Pay later. There was no mention up front of a penalty for canceling the reservation, that we could see. However, it is stated in the 14 pages of terms that you are supposed to read in the time limit they give you to complete the reservation. Well, we needed to actually cancel our reservation within two hours of making it and we were zapped with half the rental cost as a penalty! They have no contact information except for reservations and email. We did email to explain the situation and have not had a response in 10 days! DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY. After reading reviews Inwas a little reluctant to rent from Sixt but they offered an AWD vehicle at a very reasonable price. The service was second to none. As soon as I arrived at their pick up loc at DEN, the shuttle was waiting and had me at their bldg within 20 min. The driver also assisted everyone loading their bags on/off the shuttle. My service rep was Alemseged. He was professional and helpful, getting me in the perfect AWD SUV to get back & forth from Breck safely within 30 min. It was the perfect start to the family vacation. The return was just as good if not better, getting us checked in, on the shuttle, and to the airport within 30 min. I will definitely rent from SIXT on my next visit to Colorado. read more

One star is overkill for this company. This was my experience with this company and I apologize that the following is a bit lengthy I checked out and received instructions on looking over the vehicle for previous damage which was well documented on the papers I received. I get to my rental only to find that it is partially covered in mud (even on the windshield). What wasn't covered in mud had a thick dirt haze which prevented me from seeing any scratches or verifying previous damage. I looked over my paperwork and there were some dents described that weren't even present on the vehicle ! I was able to see some gouges and a fist sized impact ( dent ) on the passenger side front bumper that " WASN'T " on my paperwork. After asking 2 attendants about the condition of the vehicle I waited about 10 minutes to have some take some pictures of the current damage which took another 10min but it was thorough. If I was thinking more clearly as I was pressed for time I would have taken my own pictures as well. When he finished I asked him if the vehicle could be washed again and he deferred me to another attendant. She politely said , " yeah it'll be a few minutes because we don't wash them here. " After waiting 15min I go inside to talk with a manager. I tell him that I was a little annoyed that I rented a car that's dirty, has previous damages that don't coincide with what's documented ( unbelievably shady ), and now your employee has taken the vehicle, has been gone quite a while to get it washed and using up the gas that I eventually would have to pay for. I told him that's unacceptable. He quickly ushers me away from the checkin counters to outside the building just as my rental pulls up. Now "most" of the mud is gone but still has mud on the windshield under the wipers and the body has a thick dirt haze on it. I asked him is this normal and his only reply is... "well it's a Jeep, and it's Colorado, I personally am from The LA area". He quickly offers me an upgrade or $50 off the rental. I ask him which will be quicker and he says you just go inside and we'll find you another vehicle. I glance inside to see the line at check in and just told him I'll take the $50. He apologizes and states that an updated invoice will be sent to the email address that they have on file the next day. I jump in to take off and notice that the tank is no longer on full. I just leave as I had enough for the day. Upon return, I ask for a receipt and am directed inside where I asked for the updated invoice that reflected the $50 deduction. I quickly explain to her what happened she then tells me, "No problem, I see the notes right here, but the deduction will only come off after the final charges go through." She hands me a Sixt business card, supposedly makes another note in her computer, reassures me again and smiles. If I didn't have a flight in 40min I would of hung around and talked to someone else. A week later I log in to see my credit card statement only to find that no deductions were made. I grab the Sixt business card that I received and call the number and of course it a NON WORKING NUMBER. I tried emailing the email address but no replies. After spending sometime finding a phone number where I could actually speak to someone ( not the automated, dead end that disconnects you ) I found a live person. I give her my contract number and she tells me because I don't have anything in writing, she will do a service inquiry with that particular rental site and assured me that they would have info regarding my rental and discount and it would only take 2 business days. IT'S BEEN 6 BUSINESS DAYS AND COUNTING..... Stay clear of Sixt. I wish I had looked at the reviews before renting from them. Unquestionably shady. read more

Everyone from the shuttle driver to the desk people have attitude problems as well as sub par service. They jacked up all sorts of fees as well . Administrative fees 30$ for a 5$ toll. Major scam. This company is unbelievable, first they steal my money, and then they ignore me. Do not do business with Sixt Rent a Car!

When I returned the car I was told there would be no additional charges. Three days later $453.00 was taken out of my account. When contacted, I got the run around for days and was finally told "It was probably a mistake. You can dispute the charge." At that time, I was told I'd be contacted by the Denver branch manager within 48 hours. Over a month later, still no call. They denied my disputed claim. I was told that the next car "occupant complained of a smoke smell." If I had smoked in the car, would the employee not have smelled it when I dropped the car off? I stayed for the post-return inspection. The Sixt employee said "You're good to go." I said "I don't owe any additional charges." He said "No, you're good to go, just sign here." News flash: Signing something saying you owe nothing is worth nothing with this company. Here I am with a recipient saying that I owed nothing, and now I'm told it (the receipt) is worth nothing. Either the employee that said the car was fine, doesn't need to work there if he isn't competent to inspect a car, nor have the authority to sign off on the post-return inspection. He was apparently useless to me, the consumer and the company. Sixt literally trumped up a fraudulent charge. It should be added that due to a life long respiratory condition I can't smoke, nor be around second-hand smoke. I offered a letter from my PCP outlining why I can't smoke and how one cigarette could be deadly to me. They refused the letter and refused to discuss this matter with me. I have over one dozen emails asking for a call and never got one. Steer clear of this company! The Sixt company and the Sixt family should be ashamed of how they have treated customers. read more

We did not get in an accident and we personally always parked the truck in our garage in Vail. We explained to them that we did not cause damage and we were not responsible for the prior damage. Returned our car, the guy that checked our car didn't tell us there were any issues, just said all was good and we'd get our receipt in the mail. This is the first review I've ever written in my life because the customer service was so bad I feel it can't be ignored. They blame Covid and short staffing but that is not an excuse for the particular issues I've had with them. I literally have been trying for a week to get a person on the phone and when I do they tell me everything must be done by email. If it takes extra long on hold because of short staff that's one thing. Refusing to help me when I'm on the phone or in person at the counter is completely different. I cancelled my reservation a month in advance at the counter with the person there. He didn't have the power to cancel my reservation... I tried to cancel over the phone with multiple ppl... they can't I have to email the cancellation department which doesn't have a phone number?? They want to charge me for 3 days of the original 4 day rental even though I attempted to cancel OVER A MONTH IN ADVANCE!!!! Wtf... Do not rent from them. I made a reservation for a 4 wheel drive vehicle. When I got there they told me that they didn't have any in the vehicle class I reserved and that I would have to pay a fee to upgrade to be able to get a vehicle with 4 wheel drive. What does reservation mean then? While driving it a truck in front of me kicked up a rock that chipped the windshield. Upon return I took pictures and asked the return agent if this would constitute as a damage claim, to which he told me no. He said this happens all the time, that it was an easy fix and there wouldn't be any additional charges. Which was a lie, because 3 months down the road I receive a claim email informing me I owe for the repair as well as their "lost time". I don't appreciate being lied to, but also if I had known they were going to file a claim I could've filed it with the insurance I have on my travel rewards card, but the deadline for filing is 2 months so I was out of luck. Also, they're located far from the airport, and their bus doesn't run very frequently. We waited for the bus for over 30 minutes in the cold. read more
