There's a reason their ratings are so low. Very slow leak in the tire, probably there when I left the lot (LAX location). Tire went flat the day I was leaving. Took AAA a long time to find the tiny little nail. Sixt charged me $269 to replace the tire, which only needed a patch. When I called, they said the charge was due to "a third party vendor". I guess that vendor is making a lot of money in link with Sixt, perhaps other rental car companies as well. I wonder how much Sixt charges them to send business their way. This location is closed apparently due to COVID-19 but they do not communicate this to people who have reservations. I had a reservation for months and they decided to call me the day of my reservation and when I got to this location that I had to pick up elsewhere. You can't make this up. The manager called me and asked me to text her personal number and send her photos of my license. Then she drove my rental car to this area after we waited for over an hour. It was highly unprofessional and I was uncomfortable with the whole situation. I understand that COVID has made things difficult and I have patience for that, but there could have been much more done on their end to make my experience smoother. This was my first time using Sixt and I was apprehensive because I had read some negative reviews. I decided to rely on the good ones since their prices were cheaper than their competitors, and I'm glad I did. I reserved a Rav4 through Priceline to drive to Salt Lake City. I called Sixt customer service a few days before my pick up date because I wanted to pick up the car a day early. Since I had prepaid through a third party I wasn't sure they could adjust my reservation, but not only did they move it up a day, I wasn't charged extra. The pick up process was quick and easy and they upgraded me to a GMC Acadia. Drop off was also simple and I was in and out in a few minutes. Their customer service was excellent both at pick up and drop off. This was overall a great rental car experience and I'll definitely rent from Sixt again. read more

The person behind the counter was great, but the company screwed me. I just needed a rental car for one day, and I found an expensive but available camry with Sixt on Orbitz for close to $300. When I got to Sixt, the room was packed with a number of unhappy customers who had been waiting for well past their reservation time because Sixt was severely understaffed. I sat patiently in the back until it was my turn, and the person behind the desk was very grateful. He said if I was willing to take a car that had just been returned (not yet washed or fully refueled), it would save me $50 even after adding on the protection plan that I originally had declined. Final price on the invoice 249.20 USD. Still pricey but he upgraded me from the Camry, and I was pretty late by that point so I left. The next day, I return the car and filled up the gas to the same point as when I got it. When I get the bill, 363.48 USD, and to cover the difference Sixt took an additional $90.84 out of my bank account with the card I left on file with them. Not only did they charge me for gas at $11/gallon to fill up the tank to full, they added on an additional fees and taxes on the gas and fees. After multiple back and forths with Sixt customer service, they refunded me $20 on gas to only charge me $6/gallon for gas to fill up the tank (which was not full when i got it). They said I'd have to contact Expedia for an additional refund, but the charge on my bank statement was directly from Sixt. Good customer service: "Oh, we quoted you $250 but charged you $360? This is the second time I've rented with Sixt in the past month and a half, and I have yet to experience any issues. In fact, both of my Sixt experiences have exceeded expectations and been amongst my most favorite car rental experiences. At this location, Richard H helped us, and he was absolutely hilarious and extremely helpful. My boyfriend and I had just landed from an extremely early flight, and were exhausted, and Richard brought such life and joy to our experience. He also wrote down his name and the branch's direct phone number in case we had any issues or questions. I forgot to ask the name of the woman who was working the same shift as he was, but I loved her, too! I needed recommendations for coffee, since I was so tired, and she gave me such great tips. Both times I've rented with Sixt, the employees have been so down-to-earth, and that it is what has set my experience over the top. Unbelievably lousy!!!! I'm writing this review on the side of I-95 N, sitting in a broken down vehicle. This is my 2nd car with Sixt and this is ONLY my 3rd day in FL. In short I will be getting into my third car in three days... one each day!! Details: The air conditioning broke in the first car, a Volvo S90, an hour after I picked it up. At the time, I was driving south on the FL Turnpike, in the dark, with no air conditioning in the middle of summer. Fast forward... car number two, a Cadillac, that I exchanged at the Palm Beach Airport. (FYI - there were several issues with the customer service at PB Airport.) Today I merged onto I-95N at exit 87B. I felt a big thump as I sped up on the highway to reach highway speed and very quickly it became apparent a tire was falling apart. I've had to repeat my location numerous times... it couldn't be easier to comprehend. Duh! This was our first time renting with Sixt snd Richard Haskins was absolutely fabulous from beginning to the end. Several things could have gone wrong and it did, but without asking, Richard provided immediate solutions for us. He requested our car be picked up from the airport and pulled up to the front (just perfect timing). He fixed 2 billing errors that would have been. Nightmare with their regular customer service number. He handed his direct office number and the response was always immediate. I hope Richard is promoted one day and you hire more Richard's with Sixt ! Until next time Seattle! The location was so convenient Pikes place. I don't even know where to begin. Basically this place stole $200 from me. The rental requires a $200 deposit on top of the rental fee. This authorization never shows up on your bank account in fact my bank had no record of it at all but nonetheless $200 was taken from my account. I rented the car for 3 days and when we returned it we were told it would take 3-15 business days for the deposit to be returned. That's fine. I waited those days still nothing, called sixt, they said they returned it should be on the way. Waited another 5 days still nothing. Then one day $20, with no deposit notification or receipt in my transaction list just pops up on my account. I call my bank and through a series of deductions we realized that the way this deposit works is only to benefit the profit of Sixt. My bank couldn't even break down what was happening as decided to just not help me or look into this random transaction. Sixt would not be clear or transparent at all about this deposit it all was completely shady. From what I could gather though the way this works is the deposit is refunded to your account based off what it theoretically represents in your account balance. For example if you had 300 in your account and the deposit was 200, since this isn't a fully authorized transaction that shows up on your balance, it isn't actually withdrawn from the balance... on paper. In practice, you do get 200 taken away from you it just isn't reporting to your institution so they just see it as you spending or depositing money they don't see a deposit being withdrawn. So when the deposit is due to refund by the end of it you get back whatever your bank think it's refilling in a sense and in my case it was 5% of what I'm owed. Basically by the end of this I paid 230 dollars for a cheap Toyota with old brakes and cigarette burns on the seat and then paid another 200 dollars and was given back $20 and told that's the best we can do. This company is evil and shady and the financial stress they have caused me through this deposit process has been overwhelmingly difficult, we are now late on our rent. I have essentially given up on getting my money back since my bank has as well I just hope no one ever books with a company like this. read more

Sixt is the WORST! I tried them once and never again. Went to Hawaii, they gave me a car...everything was fine until I was an hour away from the rental place and got a warning one of my tires was low. I called Sixt. THEY WANTED ME TO CHANGE THE TIRE. I said no. so they sent a tow truck who gaslit me and said the tire was saying it was low because Sixt probably rotated the tires and it threw off the auto settings. He left after doing nothing. then the next morning, I come out of my hotel and the tire is totally flat. I called Sixt again, and they asked me to try to fix the tire again, I said no, so your job. so they towed a replacement car to me and took the other car back. problem solved (except for the fact I lost a day of my vacation to this crap). This company is absolutely unbelievable. We prepaid for a rental for an upcoming trip, which we then had to cancel due to the Covid-19 outbreak. They refunded all but $100 of our rental, citing their cancellation policy. I explained that the airlines had waived all cancellation fees and was told that when Covid-19 is officially declared an epidemic, then they would waive the fees. I called back this morning as this outbreak has been officially declared a worldwide pandemic and the president has declared a national emergency... Upon return, I dropped the car off on time, but the car was not actually checked in until 2 hours later and I was charged a $10 fee for their staffs laziness. Avoid Sixt! I booked a luxury SUV rental three months in advance. Due to changes in plans, I realized I'd be able to return the car a day earlier. I called Sixt and spoke with a customer service representative to shorten my reservation, they did exactly that without telling me that it would cost MORE money and that I'd be stuck with a lesser car type. I was going to be charged an additional $500 for a non-luxury SUV rented for a shorter period of time! The customer service representative didn't confirm any of that with me on the call! I noticed the mistake after receiving my email confirmation and immediately called them back. I then had to wait to speak with a supervisor that said they couldn't change anything without listening to a call recording as the customer service representative claimed I "agreed" to pay an additional $500 for one less day with a lesser model vehicle. Every step of the way, there were more fees added on to my rental, which was already more than advertised (though that was an Expedia problem). But the desk person lied to my face, saying there weren't more fees, just to get me to finish my rental. I could clearly see there was $100 more than there was when I booked the car. Then, I get a stupid toll fee of $5 (for a $1.25 toll) and I'm told I could have opted for a "toll pass". That was never offered to me. Awful company. We reserved a Kia Rio online, but due to a lack of resources on the day we showed up, we actually got bumped up to a luxury sedan (Cadillac) for no additional charge. This car was sick! Negative experience returning a vehicle. Parked the car at 2nd Ave Seattle lot downtown, talked to Testfay, the Sixt worker in the garage. He told us to leave the keys in the car because the office was closed. While we were retrieving our belongings, a female representative of Sixt confronted us saying "We're closed. Why are you here?" She pulled out her phone, started calling someone, and stormed off without waiting for a response from us. I felt very rudely treated by this employee. So I went to their website and the first page advertised a Rav4 at $61usd - but then when you go to book the car the price changes to $156 - screen grabs attached. This is illegal in the United States (15 U.S.C. § 1125(a)). I called the office to inquire and spoke to Elijah who said the best rate he can give me in the office is $195. I asked to speak to a manager and he said there are no managers working today. I asked so who is in charge and he said "no one is in charge - we all know what we are doing and can run the store without a manager." I explained the issue and said I have screen grabs and he said he has no idea who is running the website or why they would post those rates because he can't even get a car that low. This is the WORST rental car company on the planet. I am a frequent traveler who normally uses Avis, but I'm traveling on my own dime this time and opted for the most price friendly option for a trip into Seattle. I found Sixt in my search and though I would give them a try. How bad could it really be? To help save money I booked at the downtown location, it's nice and convenient for my travel plans and I could get to the local using the light rail. I booked my reservation for a pickup time on Wednesday evening at 7pm. Can you believe the downtown location closes at 7pm?!? I'm not sure why a place that closes at 7 would let a customer knowingly book a rental car when they are closed. Seems rather fraudulent to me. I called to let them know I'm on my way, and will be there shortly after 7. Isn't it normal to arrive for your car reservation within the 30 min slot AFTER your reservation is supposed to start? I was informed by Suzy (or Susie or Suzie) that I had to arrive by 7pm on the dot at the very latest or too bad so sad. Now, here I am...with a confirmed prepaid reservation telling her I am on my way and should be there shortly and all I'm told is if I'm not there by 7 I have to come back in the morning. And I explain, but my reservation is at 7! How could you let me book that?!? Didn't matter, I let her know I would notify corporate with the complaint for their fraudulent practices - she said corporate wouldn't care. I called the customer service line to get my reservation updated and found out that moving my reservation back to the next day (I have no choice at this point) will actually cost me an additional $6!! After a LOT of venting Noelle very kindly offers to file a customer service complaint on my behalf. She was the bright spot of the miserable situation, and I hope to to get a better reception in the morning when I finally get my car! read more

NEVER RENT FROM SIXT!!!! CHARGED FOR DAMAGE THAT I DID NOT DO! I rented a car from Sixt at the Seatac airport. We hardly even drove it. Basically, just parked it at the hotel and then drove it back to the airport. Nobody checked it when we picked it up and nobody checked it when we brought it back. They just said "Don't worry about it", and we proceeded on to our flight. Several weeks later I got an email from them saying that one of the wheels had been scraped against a curb and that I owed them $722.00 for the damage. They have a process for disputing the charges, but it's just an exercise in frustration. They let you tell your side of the story and then they ignore it. So, either I pay it or let them ruin my credit rating by turning it over to a collection agency. Of course, they won't replace that wheel for that little scrape (that I did not do!). But, they have probably charged other people for that same item and they will probably charge more people for it, too! What a crummy company!!! I WILL NEVER RENT FROM THEM AGAIN!! read more

How difficult is it to take an electronic reservation and make a seamless completion, get your keys and get on with your travel? Apparently very difficult for SIXT. You don't know it, but you entered the world of marketing, where you will be asked a number of questions IF they can find your electronic reservation. If you wanted insurance for $25/day, wouldn't you have opted for that upon reserving? They NEVER have the car you requested, but they will be willing to upgrade you for a small fee, while at the same time trying to sell you something in addition. AVOID THIS GROUP, because if there is an issue, Customer Service is not good. read more

The German guys they were screwing over the first time I was in there looked mad enough to blow the place up but I couldn't figure out exactly why. They were a complete junk show so I had come back again the next day and there was a European woman crying because "everything was wrong" and she had spent a lot of money up front. Long story short, they wouldn't let us rent a car the day we had it reserved for and told us to come back the next day. Despite telling us they would hold the vehicle we had reserved starting the day before they didn't hold it and then tried to tell us that we had made the wrong reservation. Sixt Seattle gets mixed reviews here, but most of the one star reviews didn't seem to have problems I'd encounter ("they say they close at 7PM, I got there after 7, they were closed, ONE STAR!"), so I decided to take a chance on them. As some have noted, my exact car wasn't available, but the friendly rep upgraded me to a nice luxury car, and we filled out the paperwork without any upselling on her end. Returning was easy, and there were no hidden charges. I'd certainly use Sixt again, especially given they were about half the price of the airport big boys at the time I rented. Only (minor) issue was the side windows of my car were dirty, to the point where the Canadian border officer made me roll them down so he could actually see inside. Tip: I've noticed better last minute hotel and car rental deals in Seattle than in any other city, so consider not booking until a day or two before, crazy as that may sound. read more

The chip on my card malfunctions. They will not allow my to swipe the same card. Can't take cash. REFUSED to allow a swipe, even though it accepted. So I get stuck here with a paid-in-full rental but no car, because they can't accept any other tender but chip. All this after having to downgrade our rental because we use debit instead of credit.
