Sizzler has always been our childhood spot growing up. Me and my sister decided to bring our kids here and it did not disappoint. Our waiter was very attentive and checked on us several times. I don't know what happened to this sizzler but wow, I am disappointed. I can't even really say I'm mad more so that this place is pathetic. Pathetic food, pathetic attitude from staff. Just sad. The person taking the orders Juan was so uninterested and out of it? I can understand having a bad day, but when a customer asks you what comes with an entree I don't think "i don't know " is great answer. When we asked about the salad bar being replenished once again, Juan said "I don't know". WOW really? So do you know anything about where you work? You don't know what comes with an entree? you don't know if the salad bar what going to be replenished? People like Juan make me question how someone like that could even get hired. But after seeing the quality of the salad bar it's clear. Sad salad, I mean it! It wasn't fresh, it was oxidized as hell, practically pink. The cucumber were SCARY I had to skip because I didn't wanna get sick, they were yellowish and looked slimy. The soup not even hot. The chicken wings TASTELESS. AND The ice cream machine was also out of order, which comes with the salad bar right, I mean you pay 15.99? on top of that when we asked for a BAKED POTATO the answer I got was "we don't do that, not since COVID" . Went during lunch time and most of the items were missing, and no one seemed to be worried about replenishing. The watermelon was SPOILED, lettuce was wilted, all of the dessert section was closed. I really do feel bad I have to give a bad review but this is the second time we have come and it's been HORRIBLE! We came and got our meal with a side salad bar- there was NO lettuce! We asked several times and they said they ran out. When we ordered our food they ran out of the baked potatoes as well. Soda was flat, we asked for bread for a party of 4 as we waited for our food and they gave us one piece to share between the 4 of us. Because of course they ran out. If they were out they should have closed doors. They were behind on clean plates and silverware We ordered our food at 7:32 and we got our food an hour later. I understand the wait times can be a little long, but for them not to compensate us and give us something in the meantime is ridiculous. This was the nastiest restaurant I've ever been in. The salad bar had old food. Some of the food had mold on it. I was there on Thursday May 16 @ 3pm. The cornbread was so old, the hot selections were all dried up. Just left with a full timmy and semi satisfied with the staff. Although the food was good the floors were a bit sticky and the carpet was also pretty messy. The staff did go around multiple times to clean and sweep which I thought was necessary. I also did find a hair in my menudo and decided to let staff know, right away they took the menudo out and replaced it with a fresh batch. Andrea was our waitress and seemed nice enough, actually super courteous. My date had the full salad bar and I ordered a half rack of ribs meal with a baked potato and salad bar side. Came out to about $50. Fair enough pricing considering we ate alot from the salad bar haha. This place was PACKED tonight, so they must be doing something right haha. Wow...my bad!! My family reluctantly accompanied me to Sizzler tonight. Last visit I came here by myself as they are not fans of Sizzler. I first came to this Sizzler as a kid with my mom & we always enjoyed the salad bar, the famous toast & I always had the Malibu Chicken. Very good memories of spending time here with mom as she enjoyed the food & company (me). I would go to the record store after dinner, Farrs stationary & mom would shop at the clothing store. Fast forward to tonight & I feel bad I brought my family here. I stopped patronizing Sizzlers along time ago as my Wife made me realize what Malibu Chicken really is. This Sizzler must belong to a franchisee as what else could explain the current status of the Downey Sizzler. The interior looks exactly the same as when we moved to Downey in 1987. I do not believe they have made any improvements to this place other than fresh coats of paint once a decade. If this is a corporate owned store, Sizzler Corporate should be ashamed. If I am correct & a franchisee owns it, please sell it as you obviously do not care. The menu is actually not terrible, however the management & training here is obviously non-existent, which gives them zero chance of executing the Sizzler menu as designed. Are you wondering what was so bad??? "Send him this one, send him this one!" We won't discuss the waiters facial hair on the toast plate, the soggy toast, or the cardboard triangle mixed into the veggies, the worn out booth seats, charred ground beef, rock hard potato wedge, or dressing's that have been mixed(patrons fault). The staff was friendly & we will leave it at that. This is more of an apology to my family for making them sit through this experience than a review. Man they must love me a lot!! I'm so sorry. Sadly this is the LAST time we will go here. A very SAD day for us. This was our absolute favorite location but now....As soon as we opened the door we knew something had drastically changed. You could feel it. It was like a white washed TOMB. Everything we loved inside was gone and changed. Our beloved Manager was gone who was so sociable with all the customers and all the AMAZING Staff was gone that gave you that Welcome Home feeling when you were there was GONE! All new management walking around looking like he had his briefs in a bunch, not friendly with anyone. Never stopped by our table to chat like the other one did, the wait staff what there was of it was either hiding behind a partition poking his head up like a prairie dog and not coming over barely at all or the cashier had to come over and we had to ask for plates and my first plate for the salad bar had crusted food on it. Then the bowl for soup had crusted food on it. GROSS! Unsanitary conditions. The salad bar looks unfriendly and sterile now. The staff looked confused and lost. Manager so busy putting up a sign outside and looking at the plants too busy to notice he had lost 95% of his customers. We have never seen this place so EMPTY. There was barely anyone there the whole time we were there. Had to ask for coffee and water. The cheese toast was hard and chewy. The soft serve was BROKEN DOWN. No signage. The FINAL STRAW was watching the MANAGER take back his DIRTY PLATE to the salad bar and refill it. UGHHHH!!! This is DISGUSTING behavior and a bad example to others. We were SHOCKED. We've been coming to this Sizzler with our kids since we moved to Downey in 2014. The previous manager/owner was so invested in his restaurant, he would always be there, working and making sure his food and service were the best. As a mom, it was the best restaurant we could go to as the waitresses were always so super sweet to my toddler. They would bring extra plates and just entertain him so I could eat. Unfortunately, times have changed and that owner/manager is no longer at this Sizzler. They now have two people managing the restaurant that need help. We went in yesterday and the floors were so sticky, it was nasty. I had to clean my shoes when I got home. There was a female manager at the register and she was so mean and unprofessional. It was clear she didn't know how to use the new register and was even having trouble adding bacon to a burger. When I pointed out that one of the meals got a free drink, she was so confused, called it an old menu and didn't honor what it stated. She took it away and just seemed flustered. I have always ordered a plain iced tea, and this time she said they didn't have that, only raspberry iced tea. When I informed her that I've always ordered that, she practically made me feel like I was lying. I do need to say our server was super nice, but not very attentive. I ordered the salmon with baked potato. Usually, the fish comes on a bed of rice, with lemons, and tartar sauce on the side. This time, they just brought out the fish with the potato. They said they were out of tartar sauce and that only the shrimp skewers came on rice. I've literally had the same thing for the past 10 years here. I know how it comes served. It looked so unappetizing. My husband ordered the chicken club. When they asked what kind of cheese, he said none. It ended up coming out with cheese and without the bacon like a regular club sandwich is supposed to have. This Sizzler is just sad at this point. What a complete shame! I wish I could give this place no stars. It is very unfortunate the new owners have completely ruined this establishment. First off, the customer service has gone out the window since being sold. Just about every employee takes no pride in their line of work. When asked a question, they have no answer and even seem bothered to be asked a question. I purposely purchased the biggest size steak they offered for my husband and he was given a joke of a steak. It was not only very small, it was charred even though I ordered it medium rare. When we explained the issue, the waiter was upset and called the manager. The manger was even more upset, looked at the waiter and told him to handle it since it was his table. What?! For the amount of money I paid, I expect to be given a decent size steak and cooked as ordered. The salad bar was half stocked and was told it would be restocked shortly. Twenty minutes later the salad bar still has not been restocked. We ended up not eating from the salad bar. Yet another high expense we paid for little to no service. Unbelievable As others have mentioned, the place is not kept clean. The floors were sticky and the establishment just looks so runner down. Visited on Easter Sunday 2023: We ordered 3 Salad Bars and 2 snadwhiches We got our 3 plates for the Salad Bar but after some time, we didn't get our 2 sandwiches, we have the receipt that I paid for in full. We placed an order for a hamburger and chicken tenders and waited for over 30 minutes and never received our order. When asking an employee they were unable to pull up the order so no one even knew about it. Well sadly I was very disappointed. I've always loved Sizzler but this is no longer a fact. Today's visit has made up my eternal decision to never eat here again. Not sure if it's just this Downey location but with Pico and Montebello locations closed, it's the only close location left. Anyway, the malibu chicken was just a flat round frozen processed breaded chicken patty that they served at school. With a thin sliced deli meat ham and swiss cheese. Baked potato was only warm not steaming hot. The butter didn't even melt. My gf's dinner was bbq ribs and chicken which were not cooked with the sauce. Instead they just poured bbq sauce on it and her mashed potatoes were super salty. The carnitas and mini corn dogs at salad bar were very dry. The Only thing we enjoyed was the cheese toast and the ice cream and our waitress Evelyn was very sweet. This place needs to severely revamp their food product to a fresher option. Few places to sit in Dining room as there were many empty tables that needed to be cleaned for new guests. Both restrooms needed attention. Toilet Paper and trash all over the floor. A few ladies got up from their table and asked for a refund for their meals. We definitely won't be returning. What a shame for this restaurant chain that was known as a wholesome family place to go. This was my second time coming to this location and I have to say I've been disappointed both times. My biggest problem is the food from the salad bar. I usually just go with the whole buffet bc it's easier and gives me more options. Unfortunately both times I've came here the food has been cold,No flavor or watery. I have found some stuff I will eat but most of the food is just bad. I didn't give it a 1 star because I will admit the service was amazing. The employees are kind,fast and just overall nice. The place wasn't packed both the times I've been here so it is nice and quiet and easy to get around the buffet. Food was horrible- not fresh, as it seemed cooked, food was just re-warmed before serving. The fish platter had fish that was dry and not fresh. It was no tartar sauce served with the meal, and when I asked for tartar sauce, they said they were out. That is absolutely ridiculous and unacceptable. there's an ordinary condiment for fish. Also, they had old potato wedges at the bar. They were hard and dry, and when I asked for a fresh batch to be cooked, I was told we're out. Personally, I do not believe they're out of potato wedges, I believe the cooks were too lazy to cook a new batch until dinner time. Overall, the service was awful. When I was brought ranch dressing, it exchange for tartar sauce, it was served to me in a cup that was dripping on the side with ranch dressing, running down and dripping all over the place, and it was handed to me by a guy, who had just rubbed his hand through his hair. How gross and unsanitary is that???. The ambience was not nice either, it seemed very plain. The temperature was too low.
