Sadly, all the Rubio's in Sacramento have closed so we when we were in Los Angeles, we hunted down this location to revisit one of our old favorites. 1. Fish tacos are still amazing. We like the flour tortilla a bit more than the corn, but both are great. Usually I get the Especial version, but I enjoy it with and without the extra since they have some great salsa bar options. 2. The shrimp taco was a bit disappointing. It was a bit too heavy, the cheese a bit too much, and the sauce was not as good as the one on the fish tacos. 3. I like Rubio's for the seafood burritos. The bowls are solid as well with delicious fresh ingredients blended together well to create a flavorful, fulfilling meal. This Rubio's is in a good location with easy parking and a clean, airy interior. The beer batter fish burritos are my favorite. I see they are offering fish and chips now so I'll have to give the a try. I always enjoy their nacho chips with the freshly fried flavor. I haven't been to a Rubio's in 10 years, but I recently went this one while passing by in the area with my friend. It was really convenient because he wanted to get some Chinese food so he picked up something from one or the other restaurants in same plaza. I tried their fish tacos remembering they were pretty good and they did not disappoint! The service was fast and the ambiance was nice, I love that this location has outdoor seating in a shared common area with other restaurants. Parking is really great too. Were they the best fish tacos I've ever had? No, but they were still pretty good, and they have a special where you can get two tacos for $7 with a drink! Last Night 8/14/2026 I placed an order to this facility like I usually do. I arrived at the time the order was supposed to be ready to be pick up. The foo took an additional 20 to be ready ( fine things happen) but other things added up in a way that won't have me returning. the salsa bar looked like it had been unattended for hours . It was not pleasant at all. I took my food home and the shrimps tacos were ok, but the chicken tacos were terrible. It all started with the fish taco, and that's what drives the product line today. That simple fish taco is delicious. It's freshly prepared (pay attention, Del Taco), and it's tasty. Many other items on the menu today - and they're good - but I always make sure a fish taco is part of my order. Think it's been about a year since I've been to a Rubio's. They closed the one near to us in Lakewood and my Mom was surely missing it. Definitely worth the commute. Rubio's just hasn't been the same ever since they closed the Lakewood location for good, a move I still question to this day as corporate never listens to me. Want proof? Their business response was completely inadequate and indicative of their indifference towards my opinions; like why would you ask a customer to fill out a survey when that customer mentioned already doing so?? It's a real pet peeve of mine, and the glimmer of light at the end of this seemingly endless tunnel for Rubio's seems to get dimmer by the week. In an effort to revitalize their menu, Rubio's is now offering a couple of Roasted Sweet Potato offerings: Roasted Sweet Potato Taco and the Rainbow Bowl. To encourage rewards members to try either of these two new menu items, Rubio's offers 500 bonus points over a two-week period in January if you order either of them. I was doing some shopping nearby, and this Rubio's, now the closest to me after the untimely demise of the Lakewood location, was not that much farther away. I ordered the Rainbow Bowl, which consists of a protein, citrus rice, black beans, roasted corn, pineapple tajin salsa, sliced avocados, pickled red cabbage, and, of course, the roasted sweet potatoes. You could also go sans protein, but I went with my go-to: the Grilled Atlantic Salmon. I scheduled a pickup time for early afternoon on a Saturday, and I arrived about 5 minutes early. I was expecting to wait at least a couple more minutes, but once I arrived, the cashier, Daniel, had my order in his hand. Perfect timing! I was hoping this would be a sign of good things to come. Unfortunately, it was not meant to be. In my order, I also requested for some extras like the cilantro/onions, jalapenos/carrots, and lime wedges. They forgot the first one, and the last two were presented in small plastic baggies rather than the cups used at their salsa bar, additional proof that they aren't receptive to my feedback as that is a gripe I mentioned in my initial review. The extras got so soggy, and the baggies were so tightly tied I literally had to rip them open just to get the soggy contents out! And that wasn't the end of it. My order also included a drink, but it wasn't included in my takeout bag! I had to go up to Daniel, and he noticed me while he was ringing up another customer. I showed him my bump ticket, mentioning that my order should have included a drink, but I didn't get it. He went and fetched it for me. Glad I wasn't short on time; otherwise, I would have been short a drink! I also had to go up and ask for utensils because they apparently thought I could eat the bowl without utensils. Then again, the exact time of my arrival could have thrown them off, but those are still pretty bad oversights. The bowl itself wasn't too bad actually in spite of my indifference towards sweet potatoes. However, I didn't think there was sufficient flavor overall as the al pastor sauce and avocado crema didn't have a bold enough flavor for my liking. Luckily, I sat at a table close to the salsa bar, so I grabbed a cup of Roasted Chipotle Salsa and a cup of Tomatillo Salsa to go with my bowl. Nevertheless, if you're a fan of sweet potatoes, the Rainbow Bowl is something I can recommend, though it does come at a hefty price depending on what protein you choose. I'm probably not going to get it again unless I can get another 500 bonus points for it, and even so, I may choose the Blackened Atlantic Salmon instead. While I enjoyed the Grilled Atlantic Salmon on this one, it was kind of dried out and not as flavorful compared to the salmon I've had from the Lakewood location. The two salmon filets in my bowl were also a little smaller than before. I was hoping to update the rating to three stars, but unfortunately, there's not enough for me to do that due to the chronic and persistent shortcomings I've mentioned in my initial review as well as this review update. It has also been a full decade since Rubio's Fresh Mexican Grill changed its name to Rubio's Coastal Grill, but they still have the antiquated Rubio's Fresh Mexican Grill decor on the wall. I wish this location would consider the prospect of remodeling, but I'm certain of their obstinacy to maintain anachronism between their interior and exterior. read more

I ordered online for pickup so I can only speak to that, but with that being said, my food was ready and waiting for me in a timely manner(15min) I drove home and everything was fresh and the fish was crispy and delicious! But the true star for me was the Jalapeño "Tartar" Sauce. There was nothing tartar sauce about it and our family wasn't even mad about it. It's an everything sauce! So good. Not even spicy just flavorful. I literally ate some today (3 days later) with some chicken strips I made. Chef's kiss. They close at 9pm but start putting everything away at 8pm. The chairs are put on the tables to discourage people from eating there. Then they put away all the salsa so you can't get anymore. Also if soda machine doesn't work they don't bother fixing it or refilling it. The people taking orders are rude and don't seem like they like working there. If you don't like your job quit and if you don't want to serve customers then the answer is easy.... Close up shop and pack it in. If they don't like our community then by all means leave. read more

On March 3rd, my wife placed an order through the Rubio's app, but the wrong order from a different restaurant was delivered by the DoorDash driver. I contacted DoorDash, and they explained that since the order was placed through the Rubio's app, Rubio's would need to handle the refund. When I called Rubio's, the person who answered the phone (I don't believe he was a manager) was extremely rude and insisted that DoorDash was responsible. He then placed me on hold for a very long time without providing any real help. My wife and I really enjoy Rubio's and have been loyal customers, but the way this situation was handled was very disappointing. Be aware they will not refund your money, they will give you the item if you go back to the store, but the food you did receive will be cold when you get back. WOW, AMAZING SERVICE AND FOOD! WILL BE COMING BACK! This was our first time coming, and we were so shocked on just how good it was! It was fresh, fast, and really great tasting! It's kind of like a seafood chipotle but better. I love that they used no lard/ MSG. I'd like to consider myself a pretty fit girl, and I'm super cautious about what I put in my body. I give myself a little cheat day once a week, and honestly, I don't feel as if I cheated at all! I chose a protein bowl with mahi fish, corn, black beans, lettuce, and cheese. I added the mango-salsa (extra cost) and holy sh*t! It was the spice and the sweet for me!!! The price for 2, was 24.00. The really nice lady who took our order looked up my coupons by email, and saw that I had a coupon and birthday treat! The coupon was 2 entrees for $15.00! Instead of 25.00 it ended up being 16! Dear Rubio's Customer Service Team, I am writing to report an issue I experienced at your Downey location on 11/01/2025 I placed my usual online order through Rubio's website/app, as I always do, and was charged $15.XX (I have both the email confirmation and the bank transaction showing this charge). When I arrived to pick up my order, the store only provided one taco, claiming that was all I had paid for. The store manager, Rudy, told me that according to their system, my order was only for $7.XX. I showed him my proof of payment from today's date, yet he suggested that I might be "looking at a transaction from a different day," which I found disrespectful and unprofessional -- especially since my proof clearly showed today's date and order number. He said that "Liz" would be calling me about the issue but did not provide a corporate contact number when I asked for one. In the end, I was forced to repay $15 for the same order just to get my food. Rudy only refunded $7.XX, which is not the full amount I was overcharged. Please review this matter and ensure that I receive the full refund for the duplicate charge. Wow, this place has really fallen off. I used to eat here frequently, but I haven't been to this location in a long while. I ordered the 2 taco chicken plate, with chips, salsa, beans & cheese, a Hi-C Fruit punch, and a churro for dessert. The tacos were very bland at best, the chicken didn't taste quite right, the lettuce and such just tasted old. The beans were okay, nothing really to say. The tortilla chips were stale, and salsa was too watery. The drink was fine, no complaints The churro tasted like cardboard and they skimped on the cinnamon & sugar. I developed a stomach ache mid-meal, so I stopped eating. The quality overall is just poor, more akin to a fast-food joint. If it was cheaper it would be one thing. I was hungry during lunch time, so I decided to drive to Downey Landing. Rubio's was the first restaurant I glanced towards. So, I proceeded to this establishment. Everything looked new, as I hadn't been to a Rubio's in a long time. I asked for recommendation, and the lady at the counter recommended their Especial Burrito. So, I got myself a chicken one of those. By the time I helped myself to the condiments, salsa, etc. they had the burrito ready. Sweet! Especial Burrito was $8.18 with tax. This burrito was very delicious. Their packaging was good and retained the burrito shape and texture by the time I returned back to work a few minutes later. The various layers of burrito could be tasted with every bite (doused by copious amounts of their salsa). Value for the price is decent. The Picante salsa could have been a lot spicier. Both the Picante and Chipotle salsas were a little too sweet to my taste buds. I will definitely be back! Updated 3/2/2018. Bumping this to 5 stars. Coastal Trio is an excellent value for fresh food quality as well as quantity wise. Staff are so welcoming and very pleasant to interact with.
