Strip Steak. Not bad but couldn't get the side I wanted.
    D.wight L.

I finally made it out to try this location. I grew up with the Sizz and it was a childhood fave of mine. My town actually had 3 versions of this chain go in and out in different locations throughout the years. All gone...again. This is one of very few that I know of. It's been here a long time (I guess a good fit) but never been in. Until recently. Place looks like any Sizzlers around. Kinda clean but depends on how busy they are. I came once to get a gift card on a busy weekend lunch and the place looked pretty tore up. Came on a slowish weeknight dinner and it was more kept. Order at a register first, menu is on a wall. Sizzler had this format since day 1 decades ago. Most modern restaurants are going away from servers taking orders at the tables, but Sizzler has been doing it all along. This can be really time consuming depending on how experienced the employee is. There are so many prompts/questions and some people have so many questions or are just not familiar with the menu so there are lots of hold ups. Then after paying if you pay with a card, then in order to tip you basically have to do a cash back transaction where they will return cash to you for you to then give your server. Seems like an extra step but may actually benefit the serving staff tax wise. Upon waiting for your food some garlic cheese toast arrives in accordance to how many diners are at the table. This is a Sizzler signature. It is basically a thick Texas toast saturated in a slightly garlic-y butter with probably that cheap American Parmesan added to it. So it is soft, oily and salty. I loved this much more when I was a kid so it is still quite nostalgic for me. New York Strip ($26ish/3.5*) The good: it is a decent size like at least 10 oz and it's a decent quality (taste like choice grade to me). They season it well and simply and for this location they grill it super nice on a gas flame grill. I actually enjoyed my steak here, quite tasty without having to do anything to it. The bad: I came kinda late-ish for a weeknight about 7:45, starving after work. I order my steak and get to the side part and was told they were out of baked potatoes. I'm usually pretty easy about stuff like this but after a long day it was a bit irritating. Steak and baked potato is like burger and fries. Imagine going to a burger joint and them telling you they were out of fries. It's something that just shouldn't happen and who ever is in charge should get called out on it. Then after paying $35+ for a meal, with a soda and T&T I gathered that I basically got 1 steak and 1 side (that wasn't even my preference) and that's it. Oh and some toast. If I would have added a vegetable side which I prefer cuz it rounds out a steak meal then my bill would have exceeded $40....at Sizzler. Lol. Now in hindsight, it just seems like an iffy value that I probably would not repeat. At my local diner I can get a similar steak meal for around $30 bucks too. But that would come with soup or salad in the beginning, plus a potato and veggie along with the steak. So better value IMHO. 2.5* but maybe not so much for the business but for the times itself. Perceived value not as fair as they once were. Rounding up tho for an efficient server who refilled my drink and asked if I wanted more toast...with a smile. But a good ol' fashioned regular guy's steak is somewhat becoming an iffy choice these days. Bummed to say the least.

    Cut bench seat

The food is average. The service is good, but the restaurant is filthy. We went for lunch and arrived 15 minutes after opening. Only the seat of the chairs and benches were clean. The back and legs of chairs had not been cleaned in a while. All chairs were dusty, dirty with dried on food and drink. Some bench seats had been replaced, but others torn. Floors/carpets dirty. If the front of house is this dirty, one wonders what the kitchen looks like. We are not returning because of dirt/grime which is too bad as my husband loves the salad bar.

    Cheese Toast - nibbled

Ive grown up with Sizzler and was always partial to their steak and all-you-can-eat shrimp, but these days, as I've gotten older, their unlimited salad bar is what stands out. It's honestly one of the best deals in town, especially since places like Sweet Tomatoes or other healthier buffets are gone. For that alone, I give Sizzler extra credit. I also enjoy their hot bar, which has staples like chicken wings, tacos, spaghetti and meatballs, and some soup choices. Not all of it is great--it doesn't compare to fresher buffet options like Golden Corral--but for $13.99, it gets the job done. You leave satisfied without feeling too guilty or overly bloated. My only real feedback is that sometimes the bathrooms or premises don't feel 100% sparkling clean. Also, the salad bar and hot bar can run out of items, so you may end up waiting for things like chicken wings (which people rush to grab as many as they can) or even simple things like croutons at the salad bar. A minor annoyance is the music--it's mostly really, really old songs like The Beach Boys. Not the worst, but it's loud enough to be a little obnoxious. I wish they'd play Top 40 to give the place a slightly more modern feel, but that's just me nitpicking. Also, the soups are mostly misses. They're often thickened with way too much flour, and things like clam chowder end up tasting overly fishy instead of fresh. The albondigas soup clearly uses the same meatballs as the spaghetti and meatballs, which is just kind of weird. Overall, we keep coming back because of the cheap prices and the unlimited salad and hot bar. Just make sure to adjust your expectations accordingly.

One of the few remaining sizzlers left in the Bay. Located off of Hesperian Blvd. Near the DDs discount & the Chucky Cheese. Menu has been scaled down from what I remember before but the classics of steak & all you can eat shrimp or shrimp skewers are still there. Love the salad bar. It's a great deal and so many food items such as spaghetti, tacos, fries, wings, soups, and of course salad choices. The complimentery cheese bread still the best ! I hope they last as many classic restaurants are now disappearing.

My chicken with a piece of sandwich ham and cheese on top lol why steak was all fat no actual steak

I'm gonna have to give this place a hard no. It truly is another slop hole in my book. Microwave food served in the salad bar, the sodas were flat, and the food was just bland and disappointing. You can pay the same price and go to Texas Roadhouse, actually I think Texas Roadhouse might even be cheaper and 100x better quality. It was so expensive to come here I could go anywhere else and be happier. Service was fine, and the vibe just made me sad. Almost like I was in some low budget film where my life was going down hill and I had to stoop down and go to a buffet that was below average. Lol

Steak and lobster for $30, that's 2005 prices!!
    nory t.

Nostalgic family spot. Sizzler is a great place to go for affordable steak. I had a steak and lobster for the unheard price of $30. My daughter had Small Plate tri-tip 6oz sirloin for $17.50. We both opted for baked potato. And of course, of course, without a doubt the salad bar. First, salad bar- we love the many choices you can find at the salad bar. We both got creamy, yummy clam chowder with oyster crackers. Salad with mixed greens, tuna salad, seafood salad, beets, artichokes, peas, corn, sun flower seeds, croutons, and blue cheese dressing. 2 pcs fried wings and a taco. Don't forget the amazing cheese toast. We had to order more. Second course - our main meal. By this time we can only eat a few bites. Our meals are going home with us. The steak had great flavor and was done a perfect medium rare, as we ordered. The quality of the lobster was better than I expected. I would order the lobster again and again. Why not, it's only $30. Last course - soft serve ice cream and melons from the salad bar. What an amazing meal!!!

I'm sure food is always good here. Not sure about our server today. I think she tired and should not have came to work. It's the service like this that gets customers not want to experience or return to this place. The ambience is kitchen people chatter. Our server needs a break forever or something.

We had the purple-colored Ube Pancakes and the Khao Hom Waffle, which contained strips of fresh coconut meat, and both beautifully-plated dishes were topped with berries and syrup. I was an even bigger fan of the Thai side of the menu, starting with the Papaya Salad, a refreshing, crunchy mixture of shredded papaya, green beans, tomatoes, and crushed peanut in a spicy, sweet, acidic dressing made of fish sauce and lime. For our mains, the Northern Thai Khao Soi was a noodle soup made of egg noodles and chicken breast strips in a rich coconut curry, topped with crispy egg noodles, pickled cabbage, and fried shallots. From the Chef's Special menu, the Tom Yum Crab Omelet was a mound of jasmine rice enveloped with an egg omelet, topped with chunks of crab, mushrooms, and a creamy tom yum sauce; and my favorite dish was the Roti Gai Tod, a hearty combination of breaded chicken thigh, roti (a flaky flatbread), cucumber salad, jasmine rice, and a mild but flavorful yellow curry sauce on the side. Overall, everything we tried here was delicious, and the service was super quick and friendly too! It's hard to go wrong with anything on the extensive menu--what a great hidden gem of a restaurant in downtown Hayward!

Tom Yum Crab Omelette- the best one to get since it has creamy tom yum sauce, a soft omelette, drizzled with a slice of lime, and crab meat with a few mushroom slices on top of fluffy rice. Khao Hom Waffle- coconut pandan waffle with fruits and syrup on the side. I wish they replaced the syrup with coconut milk syrup for better flavor and used no coconut shreds as a topping. Ube Pancake (side order)- one thick ube pancake that turned out dry when eaten with syrup. Never order anything that is not Thai on the menu. They should add Thai Tea pancakes to their menu with housemade Thai Tea syrup to make it more fusion. Pad Kee Mao w/ Chicken- I regret ordering this because the string beans were half raw, the tofu was dry, and the dish was a bit spicy. I should've ordered Pad Thai or Ka-Pow Short Rib Benedict instead. Thai Tea- strong and sweet, not too watery. It was less crowded when we arrived at 10 am on the weekend. The waitresses were fast and efficient, and the restaurant was nice and spacious.
