Found a charming table overlooking the Seattle great wheel and the water. We received our food within 10 mins. The khachapuri was warm and cheesy, the bread was delicious, easy to tear into and dunk into the cheesy spinach. Not overly salted, just right. I discovered Skalka on my first trip to Seattle with my daughter when she was checking out UW. Now that she lives here, can't say that that's the reason why she decided to attend, but I will say it is one of my fondest memories of our first trip here and I try to visit whenever I come back. I will say it is pretty pricey for casual dining although it is some of the best casual dining you will ever have. And now that they have gone to a kiosk ordering system with no front desk staff I'm thinking somebody's making a killing on what's essentially five versions of egg, meat and bread... pretty brilliant business model and a delicious one. So good on a cold day. I got it to go and it held up really well. the bread was soft, flavorful, and soaked up the cheese, yolk, meat, and vegetables. Service was fine- they have you order via a screen but someone was there to answer any questions. The inside is clean and somewhat no frills. I like that they have instructions on how to eat it. This place really lives up to the hype! The restaurant is a short walk away from Pike Place. Everyone orders from a kiosk at the front that assigns an order number, and a water dispenser with cups is available on the side next to the kiosk. Thankfully, we were able to snag a table before all the tables were taken, and believe me, it can get very packed. But it's because the boats are soooo good! All the boats are stretched and baked fresh-to-order so expect a bit of a wait. My husband and I waited for at least 15 minutes as there were many customers ahead of us. Now, onto the boats... 1) Chicken Boat--The bread/crust/boat was AMAZING! Hard on the outside but soft on the inside, I fell in love at first bite. There was not a lot of chicken in the boat but I didn't mind as they put a lot of cheese, tomato spiced sauce, and a sunny-side up egg. And it was served freshly baked, so the whole boat was piping hot. I give this a 6 out of 5 as it is one of the best things I've eaten. 2) Veggie Boat--This boat's tomato spiced sauce tasted slightly different, maybe a little more flavorful than the Chicken Boat, but the small pieces of eggplant were a great touch. Like the Chicken Boat, it was topped generously with cheese and an egg and came piping hot. 6 out of 5. Found this on Yelp and thought I'd give it try, and I was not disappointed! We got the Adjaruli and the Lobiani Bread Boats, and they were both fantastic! The bread is tender inside and crispy outside, and the ingredients in the boat itself complement one another nicely. The problems massively overshadowed the food and I will not be returning. Location: They have the restaurant named as a pike place location; but it's a pretty good hike from the market. Once we got to the restaurant we found that not only is the dining area inaccessible by wheelchair; the ordering kiosk was inaccessible as well. I had to rely on my family to order for me and then team lift my wheelchair into the restaurant. Service: There are no wait staff to speak of. The customer orders on a self serve tablet with no attendant. There were 2 employees working during our visit. 1 was the chef and the other was doing maintenance. The maintenance worker was rude and literally shooed my sister off a rug while she was ordering on the tablet. He then shook it; spreading dust and dirt inside the shop causing another party member to go into an asthma attack. Empathy: No assistance was offered nor provided after asking to aid in accessing the restaurant with a wheelchair. No one checked in on my party member clearly having trouble breathing. No apology was offered. My group collectively felt as though the staff didn't want us there. I was really hoping to share a unique meal with my family and friends visiting the area; but ultimately we left with a bad taste for the restaurant overall. read more

Even though it doesn't look super big, one order is pretty filling and I couldn't finish the whole thing myself even with my daughter's help. Khachapuri is so hard to find in most of the US and stopping here was a must while I was in Seattle. I ordered from the kiosk. The estimated wait time of 15-20 minutes was accurate. The khachapuri came out piping hot in its box, and even had a little plastic cup over the yolk to keep it safe. I went with a friend, who ordered the veggie version, to eat over on the benches near the pier. The khachapuri was everything I hoped it would be: soft, hearty bread conveying a lake of cheese, the top layer of which was stretchy and the cheese beneath soft and wonderfully smooshy. BABY! I HAVE NEVER TRIED SUCH A BREAD OTHER THAN IN MEXICO. I got the cheese bread bowl thing with two eggs and it was insane. It was piping hot and that was perfect, crispy and you can tell it is fireplace baked, plenty of butter, the cheese was perfect it tasted like the one I eat in Mexico, the egg was top notch, all so good. It is very simple -- you go in, order on the ipad, no additions or substitutions unless it is the cheese one and that is the only one you can add an egg to, and when your order is ready you're called up and you pick it up, sit down and done. Now, I usually eye roll at no substitutions but this was fabulous. The location is great, the inside of the restaurant is not anything out of this world but it does the job. There is plenty of seating, the walls are windows so you can see outside, temp inside was good, and the bathrooms were clean. The only constructive criticism I have is that their condiments are not obviously visible and we missed them but this was so good and flavorful that it was fine. This is a must try! read more

If you've never had Georgian food and are looking for breakfast I HEAVILY recommend checking this place out. The ambiance isn't anything stellar but the food is the shining diamond in the rough. Service is self serve for the most part which is fine because the menu is smaller (maybe 7 main dishes) with other things like drinks they will call your number order for before you get your food. I'm definitely a sucker for foods where I can eat the food it comes on (think clam chowder breadbowl) and this place made me think of that instantly. The portion is excellent for one hungry person and for the smaller stomachs it can probably be split between two people if you're not shy about sharing food touching. The seasoning was excellent and the taste was out of this world. I got the stroganoff bowl which had an egg, butter, stroganoff beef and pickles on top of it. Soooo good. Almost went to a different breakfast spot but it was closed and very glad it was to check out this place. 10/10 food, give it a try and fall in love with Georgian cuisine like I did today. read more

The most unique breakfast I have had! These were absolutely delicious! They have a self order tablet up front and it can take a bit to get your food, but well worth the wait! The cheese sauce with the egg and vegetables was a great merry of flavors. The service was fast and I got the meal to go so it was packaged super nicely. I wish they had an option for a bag for the to go orders. The reason why I gave 4 stars was because of the ambiance, it was very cold inside and there were no other people in the restaurant. It also felt like the lights were too dimmed or even off. Not all of these things are Skalka's fault but they could take some further steps to liven up the restaurant. I would've loved some traditional Georgian music. All in all, I really liked this place, just next time I may get it delivered instead of going to the restaurant. read more

Been meaning to try this spot for awhile and glad I was finally able to, we were lucky to find a spot at around 1pm on a nice Saturday but it was pretty much full the entire time we were there. We got 3 boats to share for 3 people and we basically had one entire one left for to go. You order on a kiosk and find a table. Overall it was pretty clean and good ambiance. Nice with no frills. , it takes a bit for the food to come out but it sounds like they make the bread fresh for each order which makes sense then. Overall we really liked the adjaruli and the chicken and the stroganoff / beef was all of our least favorites and the one we took to go --- it wasn't bad but by far my least fav/ I felt like the meat flavor was too strong. I wouldn't get the Adjaruli again bc the chicken already has it on half of it. Overall bread was very fresh and tasty and the yolk was yummy. Ok guys! I was so excited to try this place I did a bit of research beforehand just in case any of yawl were curious about this cuisine like I was. I found out that the dish served here is actually called Khachapuri. Its very popular across eastern Europe and is in fact, the national dish of the country of Georgia. The bread is made by being leavened and allowed to rise, molded into various shapes, (in this case a boat) and then filled in the center with a mixture of cheese, eggs, and other ingredients. I decided to have this for breakfast and it was very comforting. I would definitely recommend the Lobiani that comes with red beans and bacon inside for a rainy cold Seattle day. The butter they use inside with the cheese was listed on the menu as organic high quality butter and it definitely gave that. The bread was soft but sturdy and held everything together without the structure falling apart. Making it easy to actually carry around in a box (which Skalka provides) or just out if you want to dine in. The organic butter, cheese, and runny egg combo made it flavorful. The red beans, bacon, and banana peppers made it hearty and so filling. I will admit, I could have certainly eaten the Khachapuri without the banana peppers however, it was still a delicious experience. read more

I've been to this place multiple times and the quality has been consistently good! To start off, parking might be a bit tricky to find but there's almost always paid street parking if you're willing to circle around a few times. But if you don't mind walking, I highly recommend it, because you'll want to walk off the slightly heavy food afterwards. The inside of the store is very clean and has quite a few tables, but beware that it's almost always busy (unless you come in during the weekdays around 1pm-5pm) so there will be a wait and you'll have to watch for seats like a hawk and be ready to swoop in. The food here is made fresh to order so be prepared to wait for 10-15 min (or longer if there's a crowd) after you make your selection. I always get the stroganoff, which comes with shredded beef, gooey runny egg, and mushrooms, all topped with tangy pickles. The bread encasing the ingredients is always so incredibly fresh - slightly crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Just imagine the texture of sourdough coming straight out of the oven and that's what you get! My friends have gotten the Lobiani and Veggie versions and they're both quite delicious. However, I personally prefer the creamier and more flavorful stroganoff. They do have some hot sauce selections there so if you crave some spice with your bread boat, then make sure to look around for some condiments! read more

I have been wanting to try Skalka for some time and finally got to try these beauties on my latest visit to SEA. The only con was when I was going through some of their Skalka varieties on Yelp I was expecting more options, but upon arrival there was someone behind the counter who smiled at us, but never really directed us on how to order. They were cleaning and brought out food orders. We noticed the kiosk. There was a sign near the kiosk that read "if you need help, use the button". When I tapped on the Skalka selection, only 3 options appeared. A veggie boat, A chicken boat, and one other option I cannot remember exactly what it was. A bit confused and in a bit of a rush because we had different plans for the day we opted to just try 2 chicken and 1 veggie boats. After ordering we noticed a paper menu on the other side of the kiosk with other boat options? I'm assuming you push the button to order the paper menu if you don't want any of the options on the kiosk menu. The Pros: it was clean inside and in the restroom. We had to wait for our orders to be prepared, but the wait was not super long. We got our orders to go and when we got back home the boats were still a bit crusty on the outside bread boat, but soft and a slight chew to the bread inside. My veggie boat was very flavorful and had a tomato base. Topped with a sunny side egg. Despite the confusion during ordering, I would come back to Skalka as a regular if I lived in SEA. I kept seeing this pop up on Instagram foodie vlogs and had to give it a go. All they make here are these bread bowls with eggs. They are yummy!!! A pretty heavy mean though, enough to split unless you have a big appetite! They are made to order, so it takes some time - but fresh and good!
