WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! We rented skis for our kids here when we were new to the area and trying to support a local business. When we picked up the skis, I was asking for recommendations for local lessons and mountains. The owner trash talked everyone, told me all the ski instructors are losers which you can tell by their cheap skis. He then blasted all local ski mountains, and finally told me not to call like all the other dumb mothers out there to tell him my kid's ski boots don't fit because he'll just tell me I'm a stupid mom who doesn't know how the boots are supposed to fit. Who says this?!? Of course we did outgrow the boots mid season and he refused to help us. Also, when my husband went in to look at gear, he blasted my husband trying to make him look like he knew nothing about skiing. We found Zimmermans in Nashua who are AMAZING with kids, and have excellent customer service and are happy to help when kid's inevitably need a bigger size mid season. I will never step foot in here again. I don't know how they stay in business. read more

The guys that work here are extremely rude. The kids that work there are helpful and I feel bad they get the same treatment as the paying customer. I wonder what makes these guys so grumpy year after year. One guy kept telling me that my boot size was correct even thought my toes were jammed. I begged for a size up when another guy walked by. That boot fit perfectly but I had to make it happen! We are done renting from them and definitely not buying are skis from there. read more

Been going here since my kids started to learn to ski, over 10 years ago. The sales staff know what they are talking about and are very patient and helpful. Jason just set my son up with a new board and boots, and solved my daughter's painful foot problem (loosen your boots and change your stance) that has been bothering her since last year. We have always got great deals from Duncan (the owner) and his staff. In fact, Duncan just made me an offer I couldn't refuse on an end-of-season ski package. I came in for a tune up on my old skis and instead walked out with a great new pair that's going with me to Sunday River this weekend. They put it together while I waited, and threw in a free tune-up on my wife's skis. With service like that we'll keep coming back. read more

I went to Ski Barn mid season to find used skis for my 14 year old son. We walked into Dave & Paul working the store. At first I was a little hesitant because I don't know much about skis and didn't want to be sold something we didn't need. The skis we brought in were purchased at a ski swap earlier this year; they were pretty tired and started to splinter at the tips. Dave & Paul explained the skis were good for someone at some point; not for my son at his skill level and usage. Dave helped us find a pair of new skis that would work best for my son for many season. Dave didn't pick the most expensive pair he explained why he chose the pair he did for my son. We got to talking; turns out Dave lives close to my house-he offered to drop the skis off once he put the binding on them. It turns out he put the bindings on right then and there; it was appreciated. I didn't feel 'had' or pressured to buy anything. I read the reviewer with the online purchase. I can understand why a local store like Ski Barn would be put off by online items; skis are an in person purchase but no one likes to feel bad when going into a store. To that I would state; these guys are confident and know what they are talking about. Maybe confidence was confused/felt like pressure or picking. To anyone going to Ski Barn I suggest- LISTENING. Everyone wants to know everything about everything but let the experts like Dave and Paul explain things to you. Seems like a place they want your return business not the one time sale. The Ski Barn (formerly Ski & Golf Outlet further down on Rt. 9) is located at The Green Thumb in Westborough and open from September 1st to March 31st. We went in there to buy a helmet and get a tune-up on our skis and ended up buying more stuff! Not because we were pressured in any way, but they have a great selection and offer advice on the best gear for your sport and ability . The staff is very knowledgeable, extremely helpful & super friendly. Jason and Dave spend time with you, making sure all of your questions are answered - even if it means staying a little past closing time. They offer competitive pricing (even compared to online) and quick turn around. We will definitely go back in the future! read more

Worst experience I have ever had with an associate/owner in my life. Had boots that I received as a Christmas present that did not fit and the associate and owner both gave me attitude for buying online. They both were extremely condescending and refused to size my foot correctly or sell me boots. They continually repeated that they were "not in the business of solving internet problems" when I had clearly said that I wished to buy boots from them. DO NOT waste your time here. The owner and entire staff are extremely rude. They're are super knowledgeable about skiing, but make you feel SO uncomfortable if you don't buy from them. And if you want to return something forget about it. They make you feel beyond awkward and question your decision publicly to the store. They also try to charge you a 4% fee? Since when do you have to pay to return something... I had made a large purchase that I later relooked at and realized it wasn't the best time for to spend that kind of money and when I went to return the item I felt humiliated. If I could have been swallowed up by the ground I woukd because of their response. Bought a Ski Jacket here earlier this season. The jackets zipper broke after just a few uses, I took it back to the store and as soon as I walked in the door the man said "let me guess...the zipper broke." I thought I was going to have an issue returning it or getting it fixed, instead he had proactively ordered replacement zippers from the factory and was able to fix it on the spot. He also assured me that if there was any further issues to please bring it back for years to come. read more

I went to the ski barn recently to get my son a snow board for Christmas. They were awesome. I know nothing about snow boards and Brett was more than patient with me. He showed me different boards, found bindings that fit and was very helpful. He put the board and bindings together for christmas and said if something doesn't fit boots, bindings, board is funny just come back and we will fix it. Justin was another fellow I bumped into and was also very helpful nice and just got an all around good feeling. They were very friendly to someone who was absolutely clueless. hahaha! NEVER AGAIN!! I never write reviews but definitely needed to here!! Went looking to buy my teenager skis & boots for Christmas. He's a recreational skier maybe skis 6-10X per season so not looking for expensive package because he's still growing. Went into shop and was quickly approached by employee (older gentleman not a teen). I explained that we were looking to get a package deal or possibly rentals. The guy mentioned something about my son (5'10" @ 180) not being a junior but rather an adult rental then turned and started showing us new skis at $400-600! So the conversation was turned away from rental packages as he made me think they don't rent to adults. So I asked if they had any trade-ins, as I've heard trading is pretty routine, or any last year models. He told us straight out that they don't have any adult trade-ins that would fit my son and they didn't have any last season skis either! So we continued to show us new product. After he fit my son with boots and skis the package was about $800... quite a bit more than I wanted to pay! And he knew that! But was adamant that they had no others for a lesser price. I even asked if they had any coupons or deals/sales that they were going to be running for Christmas. He said no and if anything the prices will be higher. BUYERS BEWARE!! So we graciously left thanking him for his time and went to Strands Ski in Worcester. What I found I had at home, and hadn't remembered when we went was an advertisement mailing with Ski Barn in Westborough advertising "50% off All Leftover Skis, Boards & Boots" and a "$20 Off" coupon. AND a current edition 11/8/19 with a big ad on the back for "Adult Demo Ski Packages for $xxx" and another "$20 off" coupon. Imagine that!!!?!! So I feel that he saw a woman and her son and thought what an easy sell and proceeded to upsell us... I WILL NEVER GO BACK to be treated like that again!! Terrible experience. Will never go there again. Was willing to pay $199 for a Karbon jacket. When I went to pay the young kid behind the counter said that it was 20% off. I wore it once, never removed the tags, but it did not keep me warm. I returned it 7 days later and was told by the Manager/Owner that it was clearance since it was 20% off. No where on the slip did it say "Clearance." Eventually, I did get a full refund on my credit card, but the rude manager just walked away from the counter, then chased me outside yelling, "Where are the tags?" They were still attached to the jacket, but in the side pocket. Rude. Once they get your money they don't want to give it back. read more

Since I don't ski or snowboard I went into purchasing equipment for my boys without any knowledge but after spending time with the staff at Ski Barn I am extremely confident that the boards, boots etc. I purchased are the right fit. They also stand behind their merchandise. My son had a problem with his helmet so we ran up to the Ski Barn and without any hesitation, they gave us a new helmet. we bought two full packages for snowboarding for my son and I. they did not have the color i wanted for the boots i liked so they ordered them for me. They said i should get them in a couple of days. i told them that i wanted them for a trip we had planned the following week. they did not promise they would be in on time but they said they would call me either way to let me know. they didnt. weeks later they left me a message saying the boots were in. I called to confirm that they got the ones id ordered before i drove over. they asked if they could call me back. i did not hear back for several days. when i did hear back, they left me a message that told me they had ordered me an "upgrade." i called them back to tell them i would want to try the new boots on and they got annoyed. it turns out the "upgrade" was last years model of a cheaper boot. i googled it on my phone and told the clerk it was not an upgrade. when i told them I didnt want last years model of a cheaper boot they called the manager, jason was his name, i think. he started yelling into the phone at the clerk to tell me it was an upgrade. i could actually hear him yelling "tell him its an upgrade!" over and over into the phone. the clerk couldn't even talk. in the end, i took the wrong color boots because i was going away again, i needed boots and i felt bad for the clerk. i also just wanted to leave the store behind. there is a sad, desperate quality to this place. like a failing, used-car dealership. it was awkward to watch them try to be shifty. its too bad too. id rather support a good local business. read more

We went to Ski Barn after a very poor experience elsewhere. It was night and day how we were treated at the other shop vs here in the most positive way ever. My husband and I brought our two toddlers in today to get them some gear for the rest of the season and to replace my ancient skis. I feel awful that I can't remember their names, but the two men that helped us (one with our ski purchases and the other with our kids! Haha) were amazing. They didn't have that belittling attitude that we experienced elsewhere and were so patient with us and our kids. They answered questions and made genuinely honest and helpful suggestions to assist us in making our purchase. We walked out of the previous shop empty handed and honestly feeling pretty insulted and discouraged, so coming here was a serious breath of fresh air. Have purchased equipment from them for many years, beginning when they were located on the corner of Lyman and Route 9. Bought a helmet for my son for Christmas in November this year and was told I could return it after Christmas if it didn't fit. Went 3 weeks after Christmas with helmet and receipt and was told I could only get a store credit because there was a 14 day return policy. When I mentioned that I was told I could return the item after Christams, the man (I think his name is Jason) became hostile and rude in front of customers he was waiting on. When I asked him to treat me respectfully as a customer, he got even ruder and aggressive. He escalated so much that, after he finished verbally lashing me, he then told the man at the desk to not even give me store credit. I left there incredulous and in tears. All because I politely dared to question his decision.. DO NOT shop there...the climate is very unpredictable and can get very nasty.
