Quality breakfast diner in Oak Lawn that's been around since I was a kid. I've gone here several times with my grandparents, and now just grandma since it became juts her. They have all the usual breakfast and lunch staples, but at a reasonable house, and you get nice portions. Last time I went I got the special skillet, with a sign of french toast. Easily fills you up, if you can even finish it all. I like how friendly and nice the staff and owners were to my grandma, who comes here quite a bit. They know her by name, and recognize her and treat her well, so that is always great to see. Has its own parking lot. We went prime time noon Sunday, yet still got a booth, though it was crowded. This is a very small breakfast and lunch diner in Oak Lawn with perhaps one of the best breakfast dishes around. Bud orders a classic eggs, sausage and bacon w pancakes. All good. Mom had the crepes, full of fruits and big. Where they are outstanding is in their Mexican breakfasts. Their chilaquiles are to die for. Told the manager who said they use their grandmother's sauce and boy it shows. So so good. The service is great. Every 5 minutes offering coffee refills. Many people asking if all was ok. If I could, I would have picked zero stars. The manager is extremely rude!!!! He should not be in this industry. He tries rushing paying customers in and out just to get their money with no regard to hospitality or the customers enjoying their meals in a relaxing manner. The food and service were great, but the owner is very brash. The last two times I have been there, she was adamant to let me know, unprompted, that she is the owner. Today, I was going to use contactless Apple Pay, which has been fine in the past at Skillet House. She told me it doesn't always work, took my phone from my hand (so not contactless), tapped it, printed the receipt, and then told me that she cannot adjust for tip when using Apple Pay. Good thing I am a regular and could just Zelle my waitress. I totally understand that cash is preferred, but it is extremely unfair to the servers to not let customers know that totals cannot be adjusted AFTER the payment has been processed. Worst experience here today! Ordered my usual Eggs Benedict; first egg was perfect. I cut into the second one and it's well done. I call my server over and she asked if I want it warmed up and I explained that's not the problem, it's well done, no runny yolk and I showed her. I let her know the other half was perfect. A few minutes later the guy behind the counter brings me out a two poached eggs in a cup. (Most restaurants would have done a remake but not a big deal as I still have my muffin half and Canadian bacon.) I asked him if I could have a little hollandaise sauce which is served on top of the egg. He brings a cup (lieterally) of it out. I use one the eggs, a spoon of the hollandaise and finish my meal. At this point I'm all good, mistakes happen, problem was remedied, life is good. My server brings my bill and I noticed there an additional up charge of a few bucks for hollandaise. If I had ordered extra of something, I would understand the charge and it would not be an issue. I bring this to her attention and she says to talk to the guy behind the counter, he rings up the orders. I explained the situation to guy behind the counter. His reply was I brought it out to you so I have to charge you for it, that's our policy. I said that would not have been necessary had my order been cooked properly; one egg was perfect, the other well done. His response was "we made you two poached eggs, that's our policy, I'm going to ask that you never come back here again since you're not satisfied with our cooking!" (His other poached egg was still on the table) LOL OMG - talk about unbelievable! You better not complain here as this is how you will be treated! Piss poor customer service when it's their screw up! So one of my coworkers recommended this breakfast restaurant in Oak Lawn. If you blink you miss it, located on 109th and Cicero, this breakfast nook was a treat. My waitress recommended the Mexican skillet and my son ordered the strawberry and banana Belgian waffle. Though my skillet was mediocre, it was tasty. Eat here for the first time in a long time. I remembered this place being much nicer. Our server was very nice and my issue wasn't so much with that. The place was very messy. There was a lot of trash on the floor and overall was looking in desperate need of some TLC. No music at all and overall feel of being rather depressing. Our food was edible. My husband wasn't happy with what he ordered but he was hungry and ate it. My order was below average. I ordered a basic sandwich and what I got was a mediocre sandwich that I ate because I was hungry too. We were on a time limit and had we not been we for sure would have left shortly after being seated. Our bill with tip was $30 plus. Our first time going there, the waitress was very nice and polite. The bathrooms were very nice and clean. I had ordered a Reuben sandwich. I had eaten half of it. The other half was so tough. I couldn't fight through it with a steak knife tooth. I ended up eating my friends lunch because she felt bad for me my waitress did not come back but other people did. I was waiting to speak with her when it was time to pay the bill. The carpeting on the floor has seen better days the booths are from the 1980s. this is definitely is like Robert Irvine restaurant impossible makeover kinda place. I'm a fan, I probably should have gone with a skillet, but was very satisfied with the #14 breakfast special. Love the waffle maker design and it came with 2 pieces of bacon. Both cooked to the perfect crispy texture I enjoy. The waffle design allows you the option of eating your breakfast with your fingers. Little pie shapped sections let you load up with wripped butter and syrup. I get 3 bites on each wedge, perhaps you'll find yourself trying to shove the entire wedge in your mouth Server was polite and attentive... I just love small family owned diners. Came for the first time with a friend as she recommended it. When you walk in you seat yourself. Service it quick. They come to you with a pot of coffee ready to serve you. They are on top of it, filling your cup often so it will never go cold. I had the Gypsy Omelet (without Mushrooms) and diced potatoes. It was absolutely delicious. I highly recommend it. I liked it so much I went back the very next day! Come with a side of toast, pancakes, or French toast too. After we were done eating we sat there and talked for a while. Like seriously amazing. But we didn't live nearby at the time and only had some time to kill before catching a flight, so we didn't return. But then we moved to Oak Lawn in 2017 and we went back, looking for more of that amazing 2015 experience. Sadly, we didn't get it. Coffee was lukewarm, toast was lukewarm, omelet was slightly overdone...it was a dead-on 3 star experience. We assumed that it was just a bad day, and we have it another shot about 6 months later. Unfortunately, is was more of the exact same. The whole experience - service and food - was just super uninspiring and bland. I noticed that there seems to be an entire change in staff.
