I'm updating my review with the same amount of stars because I have not found any other good poke places in Rancho. I crave poke on Sundays, but they're closed, so that's when I try other places but I just get disappointed in the end. I literally have not had a bad experience with Skipjack Poke. It makes me sad they're not open on Sundays, but I guess it's nice for the workers to have the day off. I think I'm done trying other poke places in the area because Skipjack Poke is the only one that I've loved. Their fish has always been fresh each and every time that I've gone. I was driving home after finishing up school, enjoying my first class educational environment, when I suddenly saw someone. A man, ragged, hungry, and aged. He was pushing his car, a small, haphazardly resprayed 1995 Mazda MX-5 Miata with seemingly no brakes or fifth gear, begging around every corner for help. What did I do? What a fantastic experience today. The staff was quick to greet us and upon entering you could easily see this place is clean and nice. When I used to work in the area and had a craving for poke, I would always stop by this spot. It shares a plaza with a laser spot, barbershop, sandwich shop and other food places. There is always parking, however, so that's one least thing you have to worry about. When you enter the restaurant, there are tables that resembles a maze to help guide you on where to go. Ordering is fairly easy since there's a huge menu behind the servers with step by step instruction. They are also really generous with their protein scoops so I appreciate that. Place is located in a building plaza next to several other food establishments. Parking is everywhere and easy. It's somewhat small inside but you can also eat outside as well. The food is tasty and they have several staff hustling to get everyone's order done. The only thing I can suggest is different plastic to go bags. We put my container in a bag, she handed me a fork which I placed in the bag and the fork fell out. The bag had ripped right away luckily it was just the fork that fell through. But it could have easily been my food falling to the ground if I hadn't noticed the tare. Aside from a little mishap the place is clean and organized and the food was a good size portion. In terms of taste, Skipjack is actually very good. There are some things that are good compare to the regular poke I go to in Rowland Heights. They have a unique set of sauces you can have and you can mix and match however you like(the winner for me is ponzu lime). So I only got two proteins because it was already 9.55 or something like that which is very expensive in terms of poke. and I think it was like 11.95?12.95 for the 3 proteins. So I think it's just a bit too expensive no matter how you look at it. Other stuff that I like the regular poke I go to, they don't charge for avocado and they charge extra for imitation crab and seaweed(if you get 2nd scoop which I only get one anyway which is fine). They didn't have yellowtail and they only have 6 proteins which is kinda a small selection. which is a shame but let's talk about the pros about skipjack. I think the fishes are actually fresher than the one I go to and I thought the seaweed didn't have the distinct fishy/ocean taste. I thought the salmon was excellent and the spicy tuna was also AWESOME. Man, I was simply surprised by how much kick they have on the spicy tuna. It was gooood. I'm looking forward to coming back and trying albacore. Although I didn't try it(because I find it odd to pair it together), they have something unique like seasonal fruits. The finishing touch that I love the most is probably the fact that they have seaweed flakes to add on top. It adds so much layer to the poke and it pairs so well. Other poke places really need to add this. I also like the other toppings of Crispy tempura/garlic. It's expensive for a poke place honestly, but I will be back whenever I don't bring lunch. Every time, I'm greeted by smiling employees who gladly put together my complicated orders for bowls with a 1/3 brown rice, 1/3 kale, and 1/3 salad base. What's even better is is that when you rush in five minutes before closing, they'll still happily serve you without hurrying any part of the ordering process.
