Very expensive for what you get. I can't say it was bad, yet I can't say it was great. I think the problem with this place is that they want their cake and eat it too. They charge fine dining prices yet still want to be the local pub. It's a tough mix to balance. Don't get me wrong the food and service wasn't bad but when you are seeing $40 and $50 entres you're now in Blackstones and Prime territory and the quality and quantity just doesn't hold up. Yes. They have the real estate in northport village and the great spot. And years ago was a good spot for a burger. But for that price I'd go to salted, harbor house, or bistro 44 way before them. Another solid 4 for a restaurant in Northport. Why?! I'll tell you why. We arrived for our reservation and got seated in one of the booths with the porthole facing into the bar and I felt like we were tucked away in our own private little area yet again. So yay another cozy date night spot. We decided we would get: 2 Lobster Bisques - feeling extra and did not want to share with the fella. Also feeling bold because we never had it here before but figured it must be good because we are right next to the harbor. If they screw this up then something is SERIOUSLY wrong. Fried Calamari - we split - with a curry aioli. He could've totally skipped the aioli.. I couldn't have a lot of it but it was good. Chicory Caesar Salad with Grilled Shrimp - mine. I'll be honest I was so torn on what to eat as my main and it was alright. Shrimp were nicely grilled but dressing was a little too heavy on the anchovies. S'all good though. Stopped here while in the area. Decor is super cute- clean, white and nautical. And location is great right on the corner facing the water. I must say, Food is lacking. Got the Caesar salad with chicken...to me the chicken tasted almost rubbery texture which was off putting- i would pass on that. Got the burger for my main dish- ordered it medium and it was more pink for my liking. My husband got the fish and chips he said it was good but came without tarter sauce- apparently they were all out. Lastly i got A cappuccino and hubby Got the cheesecake which he said was tasty. Was going out w my husband for a nice dinner and it was not only a disappointment but total robbery. calamari was sub par, came with a weird sauce and when i asked for marinara they charged me $3 LOL. i ordered the pasta special which was supposed to be tortellini and when it came out there were 6 tortellinis, yes , 6 on my plate. my husband ordered cavetelli w crab meat , almost no sauce or crab meat no flavor was completely inedible. I'm not sure why some people don't seem to like this place, but we had a good time, good beer and good food. I had been in the area for a photo shoot and decided to take advantage of the great little town of Northport near by. We wanted to sit outside and Skippers was the first place we came across. We had the fried onion blossom thing to start and it was really good, with a little bit of zing that I normally don't like, but in this case I thought it was yummy. My husband made a strange choice for a summertime meal - he had chicken parmesan - and he enjoyed it quite a bit. I went for the Cobb Salad with chicken and it was exceptionally good (I love a good salad with avocado and egg). The waitress was very friendly and attentive. She was helpful and pleasant. She even offered to move us when she thought the sun might be too strong (it was fine). Overall we had a nice experience and I would definitely eat at Skippers again. read more

I am so disappointed, as I live here in town and thought that they would upgrade this restaurant. It really is the same with a face lift. The food is exactly like it was... average at best. This is nothing but a tourist trap. We went today after the remodel, and had lobster bisque. It was horrible, not one piece of lobster, and it was the worst I ever had. The waitress was brand-new, so that's not her fault, but overall the service looked horrible for everyone. We couldn't even order a drink, as it wasn't 5pm, some stupid rule that Skippers made up, so if you go for lunch you can forget about having drinks. The food was just average, same as it always was. My husband grew up in Eaton's Neck and when we come back to his stomping grounds we have made Skippers a traditional stop. In the past we had the usual pub fare but this time we experienced a new and improved Skippers. The outside has been updated and the interior is bright and airy with windows that open fully to enjoy the view of the marina. We sat at the copper bar and Ryan the bartender brought us an Allegash White and a glass of Chardonnay. Knowing we had a family dinner coming up, we ordered appetizers, a crab cake and calamari. Even though it was just a single crab cake, it was sizable and had plenty of crab. Served on top of a twist of thin soba noodles, we throughly enjoyed the sesame oil based sauce that was drizzled around the dish. The calamari was some of the best we have ever eaten. Light, crispy cornmeal coating that enhanced and didn't overwhelm the delicate calamari. Served with a micro green and thinly sliced cucumber, this was a meal unto itself. The mustard based sauce on the side rounded out the dish. Ryan told us that Skippers had been renovated over a six month period and up and running for the last three. From the great staff to the delicious cuisine finishing with the upgraded ambiance, we were so happy to enjoy Skippers and hope to be back soon! read more

I've been going to skippers ever since the renovation and am pleased every single time. From the service, to the ambiance, and of course food and drinks. It is top notch every-time. I had Caterina as my server - who was very helpful and attentive. I recommend skippers to anyone stopping in Northport village. My favorite appetizer is the tuna nachos, for my entree I will always get the blackened swordfish! Lastly my favorite drink is the honey badger... so refreshing and delicious! Horrible experience. Rude staff and manager. Took my sister in law out to celebrate her getting married and they absolutely ruined our day. The manager "cut" our party off after only having one drink each. We were not being inappropriate, simply having a good time. Insinuated that we were not classy after saying "this is a classy place." Kicked us out without allowing us to finish our meals or drinks and forced us to pay the bill and threatened to call the cops. The staff then began to make fun of us and mock us. The owner refused to give us a reason as to why we weren't allowed to order drinks and admitted to handling the situation poorly and still refused to refund us our over $200 bill. DO NOT GO HERE. Skippers has been an institution in Northport for years. I've been eating there for years for a reason. This review is not about the food or pricing since food is appreciated by individual preference, and you can eat less or more expensively anywhere. We ate with a party of four yesterday on a busy Sunday. Unbeknownst to me at the time, my girlfriend was developing an immediate and uncommon allergic reaction to what we will guess to be an ingredient in the dish. Which she described as delicious. We got home about 40 minutes later, and while not critical, the reaction did not seem to subside. I called the restaurant and asked to speak to the manager, and in less than a minute on a busy Sunday, Paul picked up the phone. I explained to him that I was not looking for compensation or restitution, but described my situation and that all I was requesting was the ingredient list so that we could make more informed choices going forward. His first reaction was of concern for her, and I could tell right away that it was way more genuine than the obligatory risk management that one in his position would need to employ. He then said that the kitchen was busy, but he would check and call me back shortly. No more than 2 1/2 minutes later, he called me back with an ingredient list and other helpful information, all with an elevated and sustained level of empathy and cooperation. The reaction did subside shortly after. It's said that how you do something is how you do everything, and Paul crushed it on that day. He and the restaurant deserve kudos. A few things that made my visit to Skippers both disappointing and unenjoyable. 1. I called ahead of time to ask if they offer full lobsters, since they are in season. Whichever staff member answered the phone told me they do not, they only serve lobster rolls. 2. Our server was not only rude, but also didn't tell my party the specials - WHICH INCLUDED A FULL LOBSTER and lobster Mac and cheese! We didn't find such out until we overheard another server speaking to a different table, when we had already ordered. 3. My food (fish) was undercooked - they then proceeded to put my food (which was half eaten) back on the grill instead of replacing it with a new piece. Not only was the food and service an issue, but a manager didn't even come over to address my food being undercooked. For the prices of this place, my group agreed we would expect everything to have been much better. Next time I come back to LI to visit, this restaurant will be the last place I recommend. read more

This is my 3 visit since the renovation. And unfortunately 3 strikes and your out! Went with different groups of people each time and the response was all the same. Beautiful renovation although with its location and prime area looking out at park and Northport harbor it would have been nice to have a better view . But lets talk about portions Disappointing ! My last visit included the goat cheese ravioli It consisted of 7 or 8 small ravioli 2 had no cheese others when cut in half had minimal. The bread/rolls were tasteless cold and on its way to being on the stale side. On the main street corner is a restaurant with a traditional ambiance that serves bar pub food and various beers. We had just come from the Village Park and we were interested in a burger and a beer. Skipper's is a fun place to go any time at all. In fact, when people call and say, "Let's go to lunch. Or, let's go to dinner. It's one of the regular places we enjoy going. Often, after seeing a production at The John Engeman Theatre at the other end of Main Street in Northport, my husband and I, or friends and I will head to Skipper's for a drink and light eat! The food is very traditional pub style and it is always good. The waitstaff are always freindly and very helpful. Skipper's is a welcoming and comfortable pub with an incredible view of the Northport Harbor. The restaurant offers a wide selection of appetizers, lunch and dinner options for the seafarer, "landlubber", and farmhand. After a walk on the pier, we came here to watch the sunset and enjoy a drink. The holiday drink specials were delicious! Our party of 6 tried several specialty drinks off the cocktail menu along with their beers on tap and everyone left happy. I enjoyed my Candy Cane Hot Cocoa drink with peppermint schnapps - just the ticket when it's 10 degrees outside! Our server was very friendly and attentive, but not pushy about ordering another round of drinks. My husband and I always enjoy the outdoor seating at Skippers. When walking through the village we like to stop for a drink and a few appetizers. Two of our favorites are the big pretzel with spicy mayo and the blooming onion. This time we had the chicken quesadilla which was very good. Nice portion sizes. Staff is always friendly and they are always nice when we bring our dog by bringing him a bowl of water. Skippers has that small town feel. One of the reasons we live living here. read more

Greeted by an angry hostess who looked like we were bothering her by wanting to eat at the restaurant. The menu is extremely overpriced- $15 for the kids meal- which has 3 small overcooked chicken fingers, $12 for a lobster bisque soup which contains zero lobster and among many other high priced items I could not even fathom to order. So disappointed. Here I was happy to go out with my husband and son to celebrate my birthday and I got greeted with a mean mugging waitress. No hello or smile, just right down to business. Our appetizer plates were still on the table. When our waitress brought out our sons dish, she didn't even take the dirty plate away and just put the entree to the side. I moved the plate out of there way and another waitress came by and offered to take the plates from us. My son accidentally dropped his fork and we just waited until I caught her glance but she never came to check up on us. When she brought his fork I reminded her of our drinks. My husband ordered a medium rare filet mignon and I order ahi tuna. The filet mignon was disgusting, almost well done, hard as a rock and completely chewy. The tuna's color was off. It's supposed to have a reddish hue and it looked bad. Our drinks finally came and we were very disappointed with our food. She never came back and kept hiding in the back. I caught her glance and she looked annoyed that we locked eyes and asked for the check. I didn't even get a celebratory birthday dessert. So upsetting. Meanwhile the table next to us had a waitress that checked up on them, a smile on her face and bringing out coffee and dessert to her guests. She actually came to our table to help with our waitress and she was all smiles and I thanked her and said to her that it's nice seeing a smile on her face. The funny part, when our waitress came to our table she was all smiles. It was the end of her shift or maybe she knew we were pissed and trying to back track her actions but at that point, it was too late for us. She asked how everything was and I told her the filet mignon was not medium rare, so chewy and hard. No apologies but gave the excuse that this is what happens late at night as the kitchen is trying to close down. Who says that?! Our reservations were for 8:45 and they close at 10. If that's too late then they could've just told me that when I was making the reservation but they accepted. Sorry but if you're accepting my reservation then I expect great service even if it is almost at closing. I was upset and the nice waitress for the other table closed our check out, our waitress didn't even close us out. I'm in the retail industry and it's so disappointing to see this kind of service. A smile and being friendly goes a long way. Even if our waitress was having a bad day, each client should be a fresh start for her. read more
