I know this place has been changing over the years, but I've been eating here for decades. Food has slowly improved over the years. But now the prices are through the roof so I expect excellent food. But that's not what is happening. Yes the food is high-end, so cost more. I ordered the striped bass last night. Ugh dry & bland & THIRTY-NINE BUCKS. I'm a local and have been coming to Skippers for over 30 years. This is the first time that I was met by a very unpleasant hostess who was upset to find out our group of 4 were only looking for drinks and appetizers. After begrudgingly showing us to a table, she literally threw the menu at me. Thankfully, our server more than made up for the bitter watchdog who met us when we walked in. The Appys were fine. I grew up in east northport and have been coming to northport for years since i was a kid. When the renovations went under way i was excited to see the new skippers, i must say the decor is beautiful. The hostesses need to work on customer service, we had a 4 month old with us and rather than being welcoming we almost left bc they were so unfriendly. We asked to sit at the high top by the window bc it was easy with the stroller but the staff made us feel as if we were an inconvenience. The red headed girl actually said "i don't want the waitress to get hurt serving your food" bc yes in 2021 it is difficult to accommodate a baby in a restaurant environment? Also, there were many other ways for the server to deliver the food... so this was unnecessarily pointed out to us. I am so disappointed and expected more from a staple of northport village. Too bad the new decor doesn't match the customer service or the food. $28 for a bland Caesar salad as well and the chicken was a thinner than paper. I gave you 2 stars bc i thought the waitress was the only good thing about our 1.5 hour stay. Sadly my last visit, also not even a goodbye from your "friendly" hostess. read more

As a local - Do yourself a huge favor, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. They just spent so much on renovations and everything is worse with a shine. Drinks suck, food still is below average and over priced for the tiny portions they give. The staff is either inexperienced, rude or both. Literally go next door to Salted or Bistro. It's 10x better food/drinks and cheaper. They tried so hard to make this dump into a trendy spot for tourists and young people but this is literally the last place on earth I'd go again. My compadre and I were famished after a few hours of door to door Northport shopping, and Skipper's hit the spot! It was a beautiful day, so we sat al fresco, adjacent to the Long Island Sound. We were seated promptly, and our server was energetic as well as extremely friendly. She made us feel at home. Our appetizers were served promptly, despite the volume of clientele. We both ordered soups, which were served at the perfect temperature, even for a warm day. The waitress was diligent, and checked on us frequently. A lovely example of professionalism. Our main course was served in a timely fashion. The ingredients are fresh and you definitely get a wholesome meal. We both opted for cheeseburgers. Made perfectly! They didn't even make a mistake with both of our special orders. Although the views are lovely, the ultimate focus here is on the staff. They go above and beyond for you. Prices are average, especially for the atmosphere. I have been here many times over the years, and I cannot believe I did not give these folks a wonderful review. Parking can be tricky during peak times, but it is well worth it, especially if you are seated outdoors. We will definitely be back. read more

Will never go back. Most of the dishes were ok at best. However, the baked chicken was served severely undercooked. There was blood as you cut into it. When we asked the server to have it fixed it was returned 10 minutes later. Same chicken, over-cooked this time but placed on top of the original sides which were now ice cold but more importantly they were in the liquids the chicken released when it was near raw. There wasn't one bite taken from this meal. Server didn't care. For 2 apps, 2 entrees, 4 glasses of wine and mediocre food at best for $180 with-out tip there are tons of other options. Wish I could give zero stars because this place deserves nothing. Was out with my 3 sisters-in-law's celebrating on Saturday afternoon and it was completely ruined. We were cut off after one round of drinks and never told. We were not being inappropriate, just 4 girls enjoying each other's company. Our waitress took our second order with our food and then completely disappeared. After some time, we asked a bartender where our drinks were, and he said the manager cut us off. We had no idea who the manager even was at this point because nothing was said to us. We had him come to our table and he couldn't give us any reason as to why we were cut off besides saying we were not classy, and that this was a "classy establishment". We were kicked out without finishing our meals, but he threatened to call the cops if the bill was not paid. Extremely unprofessional behavior from every employee involved. If we did something wrong, we should have been spoken to prior to anything escalating. Manager should be ashamed of himself for treating 4 women the way he did. read more

This was my first time in Northport and I must say the experience was amazing. The outdoor views were breathtaking & the food was phenomenal. The hostess who greeted us at the door was polite & friendly. Our server Madeline was attentive and helpful. I ordered the lobster roll for my entree and it was delicious ! I need to share my experience with skippers bc I thought when I walked through the door I would be able to write a positive review, but sadly my good experience changed midway through mine and my guest meal. My sister in laws brought me for a nice day out in Northport for my bachelorette, we had reservations at skippers and walking in I thought the atmosphere felt great. we ordered a round of drinks before looking at the menu while seated in our booth, one drink each, 4 girls. we enjoyed conversation between ourselves, the drinks were good so after ordering our dinner we asked for another round, almost an hour later we realize we never got our drinks and the waiter never returned. We had eaten only half of our meals when I went up to the bar to ask for the drinks we had ordered only to be told that he was told by the manager to cut us off, I politely asked why, since we only had one drink each, and with our dinner, he couldn't give me reason just told me manager said so, I asked for the manager, I was told by him that "this is a classy place" as to which I asked what we did wrong for him to cut us off, he had no answer. After asking several times as to what we did wrong he still had no answer, so did I get loud, yes. Our bill was over $200, we didn't get our second round that we waited an hour for, never to be told that we were cut off, and only ate half our food before we were rudely kicked out. I truly believe this was discrimination against a group of girls celebrating a special event. I would never recommend this place to anyone, the staff and management were so unprofessional. read more

My only criticism of Skippers is the demeanor of the two women that were taking reservations when you walk in. I went Saturday night at 6 pm. The front desk is right there when you walk in. The 2 women were stone faced. No greeting. No smile. They just had weird "I don't want to be here" looks on their faces. In fact, I said hello to them as soon as I walked in and they didn't respond. The last time I was at this restaurant was over 10 years ago. Then it was a sleepy pub with graceful age lines. Now it is totally renovated and up to date in every way. The decor is modern but with a touch of nostalgia. Well done. We sat at a high top next to the bar in front. Very comfortable. Great view. We started off with the onion soup ( which I had the last time I was here ). The soup is the reason I took off a 1/2 star. They need to work on the soup, but forget able that. The rest of the meal was really, really good. Well crafted, executed and seasoned professionally. We had the following: Chicken Burger Roasted Salmon Sauteed Spinach Sauteed Mushrooms The chicken burger was really a greek style ground chicken patty, spiced with dill, yogurt and cucumber. It was topped with feta and served on an homemade bun and french fries. I did not have the bun so no comment. It was a delightful meal. The roasted salmon was really spectacular. It was served over a puree of cauliflower and other root vegetables. I would order this medium rare or rare in the future. The vegetables were perfect. Spinach and garlic. Mixed sauteed mushrooms. Very good. A bit expensive, but what isn't these days. The service was on point. The server was pleasant and accessible. She checked on us several times. Thinks a giant bland greasy poof coating and zero flavor fish on the first bite. My meal was semi better - pasta with gritty texture ricotta, again no flavor. The red sauce was so limited on my pasta I struggled to find some for my pasta to find. The oil from our bread basket saved that dish as I used it to provide the pasta with some flavor and sauce. So excited about the Skippers refresh! We've been 3 times now. The food has been great--a welcome (major) upgrade. But 2 out of 3 times the service was very slow. So far we've had the chicken, filet mignon, burrata, beet salad, lobster roll and a special--the shrimp tacos. Filet and chicken were great. Shrimp tacos and lobster roll were decent. Burrata and beet salad were also pretty good. Also worth mentioning staff is super friendly. It's a welcome addition to northport. We also love Bistro 44 and Harbor House! read more

Came here on a Friday night with family for a late dinner, around 9pm. The area is quite nice and the pub itself is welcoming and warm. There was a variety of options for seating, outside, indoors, booth, table, bar. The service was my biggest issue and lost 2 stars. We were seated immediately, which I appreciated, but it took 10 minutes to even talk to our server and another 10 to get out drinks. He never asked us how our food was and was only back in time for the check. A Our food was pretty good. The fried calamari was good and came with a great sauce. The fish and chips had great tasting fish and we were able to share it. The chicken and black beans over mash potatoes had a nice kick to it, which definitely built over time and added great flavor (as someone who LOVES mexican food). Overall definitely a cozy place near the port to come visit, but would hope the service would be better next time (or at least get us drinks sooner). read more

They clearly have listened to their customers on this one. We came this past Saturday (day before Easter) because that was the day we held my dad's memorial service and this was his favorite place. We were a party of 11, with 4 little ones - we barely had to wait for a table. When we were sat, I asked if we could push the tables together since they were currently separated, and we wanted to be able to sit together. The manager on duty helped us move the tables (I don't know what those things were made of but damn were they heavy!), and didn't seem like he was pissed I reorganized their dining area :)! Our server was attentive, nice, and joking with us. All of our orders were correct and we received them quickly. Went yesterday with my friend for late lunch around 4:30. It took a while to order a drink and when drinks got there they were very weak and watered down. If I spend $15 on a cocktail I expect it to have some alcohol. I ordered the lobster roll which I know is expensive in general but it was $38 compared to $32 for a much better lobster roll at harbor house down the street. French fries are $11 ......... we were there for a little over an hour sitting outside and we payed our bill and my friend was finishing her drink and the waitress comes out and says that there are reservations for our table and that we need to leave. I thought that was so rude I wanted to take the tip back but I wouldn't do that so I decided to write a review instead. Overpriced, horrible drinks, horrible service. I love Skippers- there is always something going on here. The place sits right across the street from Northport Harbor and definitely has a summer feel to it- the back of the bar is all windows so as you sit there and have your libation, you can see the summer crowds out and about. The food is very good "pub grub" and there are table-booths along the wall opposite the bar that can hold like 6 people each. The place is decorated in the requisite nautical theme. The crowd is mostly locals from Northport and Huntingto and everyone is easy going there. Bartenders are well seasoned and happy to see you. There is also a main dining room if you want to get away from the bar area to eat. read more

The original skippers didn't have the greatest food but it was a great location and always a cool atmosphere. OK burgers in the pub style basics. Since the remodel and revamp of the menu there is more of a selection but the prices are pretty out of this world. $11 for a side of french fries? I don't really agree with that there's a potato cost about $.14. Also they no longer do takeout which I find really pretty dumb for a business decision. For all the boaters and transient tourists that sit and stay overnight on the dock, they're losing a ton of money especially since people know about the remodel, and it's not the biggest place so takeout and bringing food back to the boat is always a convenient choice. My family lives local But we spent a lot of time On Northport dock over the summer after a long day out at Sand city we come to the dock order dinner and most of the time bring it back to the boat. We always switch it up we have a few favorites, and I've been looking forward to skippers new menu but when they said they don't do takeout anymore I was Quite confused at that decision.
