I had high hopes for this place-my husband I drove here for my birthday lunch from northern Virginia. I wanted a good crab cake sandwich and I thought for sure this place would deliver. Unfortunately, it did not. We got eh crab dip as our appetizer, which was great. My two stars are for the crab dip. It was delicious. Great idea to serve pretzel bread with it! However, ours was over toasted (or stale?) and wasn't warm and soft like I wanted it to be! It was way too hard. And speaking of being over toasted, so was the bun on the crab cake sandwich. Way overdone. Made the sandwich itself difficult to bite into-the crab cake just went out all over the sides. I was excited about the old bay chips but they were completely stale and had no old bay on them (not any that I could taste anyways). We got the strawberry beignets for dessert (don't expect anything special or no charge for a birthday-our waitress heard us say we were celebrating a birthday and just looked at us lol). Got the soda quickly and 15 minutes later someone (not the waitress) brought the salad. Waitress did not return for another 40 minutes. Spent over 20 minutes just waiting for her to return so I could get the check. Was getting ready to drop some money at the door and leave. Another waitress was taking care of 2 other tables and she was out every 2 minutes. There were only 4 tables with customers and I saw plenty of staff walking about - BUT not my server. This is one of the best dockside restaurants and bars in the area. The atmosphere is absolutely perfect, with plenty of seating on the dock and a fun bar out on the pier (often with live music). Food-wise, they have excellent seafood fare. Soft shell crabs come perfectly fried in a nicely spied batter. I'm really picky about my crab cakes, but the lump cakes here are excellent, bursting with crab meat and minimal filler. Prices are very reasonable and service is excellent, making this one of my favorite spots. read more

I heard good things about this place and after seeing the mother's day buffet online we had to come. Sadly the only good thing about this place was some of the buffet itself(oysters were really good). The Service was horrible, it was so bad we had champagne brought to the table without ordering it while we were at the buffet and were charged $15.00 for unlimited mimosas dispite never being waited on or asked for another mimosa. Even as the restaurant dwindled in customers we still received no service. We had to physically go get someone even for the check. Went mid-May of 21' and the crabs were over cooked, relatively dry and cold and probably below regulation. They should just not serve or purchase them if they're that small. It's next years crab! Lately, I've been underwhelmed with their food. It's a great location for sitting by the water, but, I typically leave unimpressed. Tonight on the deck...it's a bit buggy, and the waiter, although nice, is very slow. I was happy to see they now offer grilled fish tacos vs just fried, but when it finally arrived...the soft tortilla was petrified like it had been sitting on the shelf forever, and the fish was salty and mushy. All that wait time...and can't even eat dinner. My husband got the bottomless mussels, and they were good, but they were delivered without the bread they promised for the first order, and in the half hour we sat here waiting for our food, he still hasn't come back to take another refill order for the bottomless promise. My son ordered the pork and bark...and that was very tasty. The pup and biscuit appetizer was good...very thankful I ordered that to satisfy my hunger. My friends ordered the crab legs and raw oysters. Both were gritty, and neither bothered finishing them. Sweet Tea was really good. I had to write this review while waiting for my husbands other order of mussels...still nothing...$18 for one bowl. Oh wait...there is the other order...45 minutes after the first delivery. Went there on a Saturday night. My wife got the Rockhold Rockfish. She thought it was great. I got the Taste of the Bay Trio. The menu tells you that you are going to get two mini crab cakes. What you get are two of the crab balls from their appetizer. Huh??? Not what I expected. The rest of the dish was good. The other complaint is that they serve everything over a bed of french fries. Thank you Yelp! This gem is at the end of a tiny obscure road which we never would have found on our own. We sat outside on the wooden deck overlooking the bay and the floating bar. There were gulls and children buzzing about. The waitstaff was young but friendly and helpful. Our waitress warned us off of the blue crab because it was not local and therefore very expensive. We started with the mussels in a garlic lemon broth. Delicious! We ordered more bread ($1 hot mini loaf) to soak up the juice. The crab bruschetta was a half of a mini loaf loaded with crab, tomatoes, and pesto. Next came boiled shrimp and hush puppies. The hush puppies contained corn kernels and were served with a cinnamon butter. Definitely a must eat. The waitress urged us to try their new dessert menu but we were much too full. The deck runs the full length of the restaurant and was full even on a cloudy late Sunday afternoon in May. Most of the guests appeared to be local and the menu was priced accordingly. Love this place everytime we visit. Went on a Tuesday night ($2.50 crab night) and had an awesome experience. It was chilly outside so we sat indoors and had an awesome server who was funny and efficient. All of us LOVED our meals (I get the crab dip everytime because it is the best crab dip in Maryland in my opinion) and desserts. I would definitely recommend the crab dip, the pound of peel and eat shrimp, and the pepper jelly salmon. All were FABULOUS. For dessert we tried the double chocolate smith island cake, the key lime pie with coconut crust, and the peanut butter pie... Again delicious but the portions are HUGE which is nice, but definitely made to share- especially after you eat dinner. Although it was dusk/dark when we were there, the restaurant is right on the water and is gorgeously located. The workers are always doing something productive too- very hard working. We went here for dinner twice on vacation. The first was outstanding, the second was lackluster. The crab steamer was everything I dreamed it would be. The crab dip was also pretty good. The second dinner was surf and turf and fried oysters. Not awesome. My husband got a fish special and they were too heavy-handed with the sauce. Would definitely like to go back when we are back in the area, but we'll stick to what we know is delicious -- the crab steamer. We come here often, but today was the pits. Our server, Alex, was great. Crabs are usually good and on point. The "large" looked more like medium. They were very soggy/mushy. When we informed Alex, she said she would tell the general manager on duty. Amanda (manager) came to the table. When we asked her about the size of the crabs, she nonchalantly said "that's just the way it is". We were compensated due to the poor quality of the crabs (thank you), but Amanda's attitude left a bad taste in our mouths (worse than the taste of the crabs). If you're having a bad day, maybe you shouldn't be dealing with customers. Or maybe Skippers's should provide managerial customer service training. Skipper's Pier, please do better. Just visited with my REAL service dog (who was wearing a large service dog lable) and had a confusing and disappointing disagreement with the manager. After the host refused to seat me i asked to see a manager. The manager came out and said service dogs are fine but they need vests and documentation. I told the manager that vests are not required and that federal law only allows two questions to be asked. She said she knew the two questions ..... but instead of asking the two questions allowed by law, she said something about service dog registration. I told her that there is no federal registry and that a federal registry of disbled people would be a very offensive thing. If she knew the two permitted questions, why did she embarrasse me for being disabled rather than just asking the two questions? All together a lousy experience. The food was ok. read more

Unbelievably bad service... most of the young wait staff continually looked like they'd be sucking on a sour warhead. We sat and ordered drinks, despite saying "no problem" the waitress didn't write some of our drink orders down and didn't bring the correct beverages that were ordered.... when the drinks came it was obvious there's a MAJOR problem with their water, whether it be filthy dispensers, taps or even a poor water source, it smelt like sulphur and tasted bad one person from our table for sick. We were a large table, so it is understandable that some things take time, but if you take everyone's order at the same time, the food should come out all at the same time. The fact that there was 20mins between some food coming out and then others receiving theirs shows poor time management in the kitchen. My food was just a sweet mess of sweet soy/honey and a poorly put-together slosh called a tuna bowl. We got a 20% charge for gratuities but could only split 6 ways. Now that would be fine, but the charge for such bad food and extremely poor service is ridiculous. The waitress didn't have to care because she got her near $100 dollar in unwarranted gratuities. We asked for the bill, and our waitress and her tall sour looking friend ducked down behind the bar and went onto a tiktok live..... how do I know they did that I hear you say? Because we, as in several of us, heard it, and I stood up and could see them. We tried to speak to the manager, but he dismissed us regarding the unwarranted tip. I went to the ladies, and as I walked past the table of staff that had finished, I heard the manager making rude comments about how he blew us off. It's such a pathetic way to run a restaurant and what's worse after reading several of the reviews. This isn't the first report of poor service, poor food, and bad behaviour. The only response is "we pride ourselves on our food and service, we will do better"...... ppffft whatever, you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear. You don't care about any aspect of this restaurant you want to call a business, you can't do better if you don't care and don't do anything about the issues that seem to be a constant and even if you refuse to do anything about the wait staff and your manager. You could do something about your sulphur water. read more

She went this past weekend and experienced almost exactly what I did two weeks earlier. We went on a Thursday night. Great location for a restaurant and dock bar. Got seated quickly and ordered. We are drinkers and those of us that got cocktails were just ok with them. Very weak. We ordered apps for the table. The one that is easiest to prepare (mussels) came with the meals late. The crab dip was decent, fried pickles were just ok as well. Entrees. I got the rockfish that comes on top of friend green tomatoes with lump crab and a fresh salsa with some cream sauce. The friend green tomatoes were awful. Small, thin, fried beyond recognition. The fish, crab and everything else on top was rather bland. What a bummer. The staff was just ok. Forgetful, not apologetic and we're witnessed chewing food as they walked the floor, something my friend also noticed during her last visit. Guys, when you walk out of the kitchen, make sure you are not chewing. All in all, it wasn't terrible, but not worth returning, especially with the limited parking and likely hike you will have to take. I hope they come around and return to what I heard they used to be. read more

First visit for Sunday lunch. First the setting is wonderful as the restaurant sits upon the river at the bay. Service was very good. Tried the oysters on half shell and the crab dip as appetizers, both were excellent. The bread served with the dip really rocked. I ordered the oyster Po boy which was very good. Super great location. If the parking lot is full (which it was when we came today), then overflow parking is at the marina you pass on the right before arriving at the restaurant. My food was pretty good- I had the Chesapeake Chicken Club. The crab dip on the sandwich was freaking awesome. My husband said his po'boy was just alright, but he wouldn't order it again. However, our waitress was pretty absent our entire meal. Took a very long time and we actually ended up missing a later engagement due to the long wait. With that being said, the view from the outdoor tables was awesome. We will probably try a few more restaurants before coming back and maybe also won't come on a Sunday afternoon. read more
