i have friends that live within walking distance of skippers. sometimes we order crabs for take-away, but i love visiting the restaurant too. They have a nice little two-level bar outside on the docks and it is pretty fun to sit there and watch the boats come and go during the day. the constant turn over of patrons also ensures a steady stream of entertaining customers. the food is good. like i said, we usually get crabs, but i've also eaten the crab cake sandwich (real jumbo lump - no filler) and the fish tacos. both entrees are delicious. two downsides - the outdoor bar closes at 9pm and very limited parking (including the lot down the road). despite those minor shortfalls, i will still insist at starting a friday or saturday night with some crabs/seafood from skippers! read more

Went here yesterday because a friend recommended it.. Order crabs for $45 medium/small a dozen.. The worst crabs ever, everyone we opened smelled like ammonia. We sent them back, and tried the medium/large, cracked open a few and they smell like ammonia as well!!! Sent those back and the manager came over and apologized said he was eating them cuz we sent them back and he was losing money.. Drinks were great! We had the wings which were phenomenal, The taste of the bay trio which my husband ate and thoroughly enjoyed. He's a chef and for him to have absolutely nothing to say he would change is a hard feat, kudos on that accomplishment alone! I had steamed crabs and they were cooked perfect! In the middle of the coronavirus pandemic right now and had to drive from Baltimore down to Deale to bring my parents something. I've been worried about small businesses during this time, so am making a point of picking up carryout somewhere whenever I do have to leave my house for an essential reason. What a comfort to be enjoying Skipper's ridiculously incredible shrimp and grits back at my house in Baltimore right now. This dish just never ever disappoints. It's a struggle for me to even order anything else on the menu because I don't want to pass up the opportunity to have what I can easily say is my all time favorite meal from any restaurant. (And the hush puppies that I always have to order too made the perfect appetizer on the drive home.) Thanks, Skipper's, for bringing a little sense of normalcy to a highly abnormal time for us all. I"ve been going to Skipper's for several years now. Love the food. Can't say enough good things about the food - I actually don't think I've ever had a bad meal here. They had a great Sunday brunch for awhile but sadly they stopped that not long ago. The seafood buffet on Friday night is good, lots of options, always well stocked and well priced ($22.99). The calamari, cream of crab soup and shrimp n' grits are among my favorites. The shrimp n' grits in particular is a must try! So why only three starts if I have such wonderful things to say about the food? The service, it's awful, consistently awful. I've been to Skipper's many times and can honestly say I've had decent service once or twice - that's it. If the service was better Skipper's would get 5 stars without hesitation! read more

If you're not from Maryland and you want to know what all the hype is with eating blue crabs, this is a great place to experience it! Deale MD is a small town with a marina on the water, not far at all from the DC area. Skippers Pier is the perfect environment if you're looking to pick some blue crabs in t-shirt, shorts and sandals. There's nothing fancy about this place, but then again, there's nothing fancy about picking crabs. We ordered steamed clams, oysters, and a dozen mixed medium crabs. The crabs were perfectly seasoned and cooked...could be the best I've ever had. We had a table out on their back deck, over the water. Just off the deck is a short pier that leads to a boat house type bar where they have live music and the most amazing signature drink, Orange Crush...or something like that. After 2 of them, i forgot the name. This was my first time here and I got what I came for, and some. Looking forward to sampling some of the other menu options next time around! read more

You go for the dockside atmosphere, but the food is above average too. Went at about 7:30 on a summer weeknight. The place was hopping but was able to park in lot and no wait for a table outside on the water. Very nice, family-run feel. Service was pretty good. Nachos with crabmeat a standout. Taste of the Bay Trio underwhelmed, as did cold blueberry pie. Nonetheless, a good experience overall for a seasonal restaurant with not a lot of other options around. read more

Love this place. The location and space is the best in Deale and the surrounding area. The reason I knocked stars off is two-fold - (1) their menus is limited, in particular, they do not have any good vegetarian options and limited chicken options. (2) there been selection is terrible. They only ever have one or two local beers and the rest are you mediocre Buds and Millers. I just feel like a good beer selection is essential experience to being a good restaurant these days. We just discovered this beautiful waterfront community, Deale. After taking a look at cute houses, we came across this highly recommended seafood restaurant in Yelp. We stopped by and went back for the second time. The first time we ordered one dozen of medium crabs and they were excellent. All of them were fresh, thick meat and the crabs were not watery. The second time, we ordered the crabs again. But some of them are not fresh and we got replacement. I'm still a fan. The deck is pleasant place to sit and enjoy the evening. read more

I love sitting outside eating at a restaurant on a dock on warm afternoon -- and Skippers has such tables. At 4:30pm on 9/21/12, all the tables had sun but the temp was low 80s and it didn't bother us too much. This place is huge. A bar farther out on the water and a bar inside, tables outside and tables inside. We had good food and good service. So I'd go back. But for some negatives: The happy hour drink prices applied to the far out bar, not to people sitting at tables on the dock. The regular beverages (e.g., iced tea) were listed on the menu without prices. Please give me prices! As another person said, everything is a couple bucks more than you'd pay somewhere else. So be ready for that. And get this, people can put their boat up to the dock that the restaurant tables are on. So a guy in a speed boat plowed head into the dock where I was sitting. My first thought was that I didn't want the dock to collapse with me ending up in the water -- but the dock readily withstood the crash from the speed boat. Nevertheless, it was unsettling. Perhaps having dock hands available would have helped prevent that mishap. Or perhaps the visiting boats could use alternate docks that were empty and not near diners. A friend had the steamed shrimp and said they were good like Pusser's, but not quite up to the awesome level of some very fresh, well-seasoned shrimp she had at Kentmorr. My iced tea was wonderful. I ordered nachos with seafood and liked it. Small shrimp, small scallops and pieces of crab, with cheese and guacamole. I would have liked a few pieces of bigger shrimp or scallops for the price. Another friend had the crab cake platter. She noticed that although it contained some lumps of crabmeat, it had a lot of thinner pieces of crabmeat than she had seen at other restaurants. She couldn't decide whether those pieces contributed to a better or worse flavor, however. I you want to sit outside in Deale, try the restaurant. Just be prepared to pay a few bucks more than elsewhere. read more

Our blue crab was a bit overcooked, and for some reason they no longer have bibs. A bib is really nice when you are hammering crab on the table with a wooden mallet. Nice fresh seafood. Despite what other reviews said, service was quick, perhaps too quick as our mains came out while we only halfway through our apps. While we did not partake, the seafood buffet was large and had a good variety of options. The main restaurant was crowded and busy on a Friday night. There was a small bar in our building and another, larger one at the end of the pier which had a stead flow of patrons to and from. Good selection of beers in bottles, but the draft selection was limited. It does have the redeeming quality of having offerings from Heavy Seas Brewing available. I can not believe how good it was. I have lived in the area for 5 years and I am just hearing about this gem. The service was excellent, the food was outstanding. They have this appetizer called BBQ Shrimp and Grits that is out of this world good. The price is reasonable. It is not fine dinning but great dinning, in a very relaxed atmosphere. On Fridays they have a Seafood Buffet that cost $23.00. In my humble opinion that can not be beat. If you want to have a great meal a good atmosphere on the WATER - go to Skippers!!! read more

The food was absolutely amazing. We started with the crab dip, the bread is so good and the dip even better! Just FYI they charge for extra bread without telling you. But it's worth the $1. I had the scampi, which was a huge portion! It was delicious but don't wear your best shirt while eating it :) my husband had the big boss man (aka surf and turf) and loved it. The steak did look and taste different than regular steak but it was still tasty. My aunt got the fish tacos and also loved them. The salsa that comes on the side is spicy but that's why it's on the side! All in all, we all enjoyed our meal! The only downside was service. We thought the best way to describe our waitress was "sour". There was also a service dog who was VERY new to training and the family kept walking him up and down, all around. At least 15 times got up to walk the dog through the restaurant. I'm not sure if the restaurant knew about this before hand but the dog wasn't very good at listening and was often time interrupting other guests dinners. Also, slobbered quite a bit on the floor which some people did slip on later. The final reason for only 4 stars is the women's restrooms. They are not handicap accesible and there are no lights in the stalls! read more
