My second time stopping in at Skippy's Gyros. I ordered the Greek Chicken Pita and fries. The first time I came here the lady behind the counter was rude. The food is OK, but they are definitely on the higher $$$ end of any hotdog stand around anywhere. I just moved down the street from this location on Butterfield. Haven't been to Skippy since I live in South Elgin and even back in 2006 and that one opened uo around that time frame. Prices have always been high. Worst Gyro I've ever had. Went in there this week with a friend split a Gyro dinner plate, it was like $35. The meat was so bland and hard the fries nothing to write home about and the service was suspect as well. I asked the lady at the counter if I could have them give me a ketchup bottle because I didn't want to rip open 90 packets of mini ketchups and by the time I get to my fries and food it's cold from having to do all that work opening them. To just refine it and make it easier with a ketchup bottle they told me they didn't have it, even though they serve Gyro, hotdogs, french fries, and hamburgers, and they surely have that in the kitchen. Drive Thru is king! I just stood at the counter and was completely ignored. No one even spoke to me. After 5 minutes I called out "hello" there were three employees that I could see. No response. Ordered the 6in Gyro , on Monday the fries were free but that was the worst tasting Gyro i ever had the tomatoes and onions were chopped tiny with a horrible flavor Ive never had on a Gyro . Really wished this was still Moogies. We got there and placed an order a few minutes before closing. When we placed the order the order taker asked here it to go. She gave us a number and we sat down. When our food came it was bagged. So we took it to eat in the car. I ordered the chicken gyro bowl. It was really good. My sister ordered the gyro sandwich. The curly fries were really good and the Greek fries were ok. BUT... my sister was up all night. It was bad. She threw up her dinner. I highly recommend this drive thru, but check your order before driving away! I stopped in for lunch after living in the neighborhood for 3 years and was pleasantly greeted by Obi. I had the bacon cheeseburger with onion rings and my partner had the gyros which were both very good but everything was a la carte which added up very fast. I so wanted to like this place. I moved to Downers Grove 4 months ago and drive past Skippy's on my way home every night. I avoided this place for months because of the location and hard to get out of the parking lot. Tonight was the night I decided to give it a try, bad move. I ordered a Chicken Gyro with tomatoes and grilled onion. I opened it when I got home and couldn't believe how many tomatoes were on the gyro. I personally did not like the gyro or the pita. I wanted so bad to make this my gyro go to place. Also, there was no one in the place and none of the workers had any sense of urgency. Probably won't be going back. It was my first time here. Went for my lunch hour, I work at the NIKE in the area. A co worker recommended. I was instantly surprised how many different items are on the menu. This place has many downsides: They need to start by repeating back your order in the drive up. I ended up with an extra $12 gyro ( not even a good one ) in my order. I knew it was pricey but damn for $60 I could gotten a steak dinner for the price of my fast food sandwiches. They don't serve their takeout with ANY napkins which is fine cause everything's dry as a bone but god forbid you are trying to eat in your car and need a napkin for any other reason ( it won't be because of their food, they took all the juices out of their food for your convenience so they could save on napkins ) No idea how this place has lasted as long as it has with this sub par and WAYYY pricey hot dog stand food in the worst intersection and no parking. Just go around the corner and visit STEVES on Roosevelt for a great and fast reasonably priced meal instead, if only they were open past 7 I never would've subjected my husband to this horrible meal. First time here, and not my last! It's right behind my office but I didn't work there that long before Covid sent us home. Visited office for first time in a year, saw Skippy's and dropped in. So glad! Manager was super nice. Drive through quick & efficient. Cowboy burger DELICIOUS, perfectly charbroiled 1/3lb patty, super fresh & quality bun (not your average bun), really good bacon & BBQ sauce (not skimped like most places), special request done exactly right. 4 stars for the gyros. They have three sizes of them. Of course I got the biggest one and it was very good. The only small drawback was I like my gyros on the crispy side and this wasn't. There was so much meat on my sandwich that I let out a little chuckle when I unwrapped it. The whole sandwich had to be close to a pound! Skippy's Gyros @ 1901 Midwest Road, Oakbrook,IL. Went to grabs quick lunch and ordered their namesake a Gyro. Go figure. They have a fairly large menu with reasonably priced items. The restaurant has a nice interior, but I had to look for a clean table. Evidently they don't wipe down between guests. The gyro looked delicious, but the meat was salty and had a slightly fishy flavor? It was filling, but wasn't the best gyro I have eaten. It lacked the flavors of gyros you get at Kings Gyros @ Milwaukee and Foster Ave or Greektown. Decent, but lacking the genuine flavoring and spices in a great gyro. I would go back and maybe try some of their other items as they have a pretty large menu. read more

Ate in and did drive thru. Waited forever inside on a Sunday evening for order. Drive thru on Friday at noon was not busy but you seem to always wait. Crinkle fries are horrid. No flavor did not auto put ketchup packs in drive thru order. Ketchup dispenser on evening inside was out. Chicken gyro was good and kids burger is huge and good. Lately, this place has been off...not sure what's changed, but the gyros are gross. Too much seasoning, the cuts of meat are too thick. For the price I pay here, I would rather drive another 20 minutes to some good authentic gyros! The staff always has been sort of rude, that has not changed. I just think it's time to move on.
