The food really did make up for the overall atmosphere and experience. I ordered two cheese dogs with the works. It was one of the best hotdogs I have had! I was pleased with the natural casing and grilled buns! The prices are also extremely reasonable. Three people ate for 35$ My main qualm was the smugness of all the staff except for our server. But taking into regard that they were relatively busy, I didn't fault/deduct any stars for the long wait time to be even spoken to/having our order taken. The food did come out quickly. Was looking for a quick bite before settling in to some computer work. This place was intriguing from the outside. Looked just like a diner, all shiny chrome/polished aluminum. Inside was more like a 50's countertop eatery. Had to try it. While Various hamburger styles were on the menu, I choice to have a grilled veggie salad. Lettuce, grilled peppers, mushrooms, broccoli w/shred cheese. It was excellent. Unfortunately, I was so full after finishing, I wasn't able to try dessert- looked like home baked pies and ice cream. Only wished I had taken a photo of the meal. Staff was friendly, food was quick and cooked right in front of you. What's not to like........ Highly recommend this spot. I called in an order for 2 cheeseburger specials with a couple of added toppings, 2 fries, and 2 strawberry shakes. Sent my man in when we arrived to pay & retrieve our order. We were staying just next door at LaQuinta Inn, so we made it back to the room pretty fast. Both of us got nice & comfortable only to discover there was 1 burger in the bag and the shakes (which were also bagged) were chocolate. The burger only had the requested toppings on it (ketchup, mustard, onions, bacon - they forgot to add the toppings that originally came on the burger (lettuce, tomatoes, mayo). Of course, I'm pissed. I call, they offer to remake the food. They apologize. Apparently she (the person who took our order & answered the phone the 2nd time) was new and mentioned the cook was also new. After getting back back to the room for the second time, we were in for an even bigger surprise (see photos). Yes, I bit into it. It was the raw smell that made me pull the whole damn patty apart. I was able to find fresh options for a salad, and the clam chowder was extremely rich, and very good, I think there must have been a whole stick of butter in it :-) they had breakfast available all day, my guess is that this is probably one of their strengths. Friendly staff which made the experience a plus. Food I would say doesn't look so appetizing but the boys I was with didn't complain either. The dinner is small inside so extremely limited seating. Most seats available at bar top around cooking stations. Seating at table limited to 2-4 people and could maybe sit about 30 people at most at one time. I didn't eat anything and most likely wouldn't since most of the items are fried or high in calories. 'This place calls for a man bun' Those 6 words alone describe the greasy, hot, cheesy, gooey mess that is Skooters. We popped into this place on a blistering cold Friday afternoon, after a long day at Bradley Airport (christmas travel season... you know). You're immediately greeted into an open dining style dining room- you can either sit at the gigantic wraparound counter, or along the wall on a shared booth seat with many small tables. It's actually a great place for both dining alone or with a group, as the seating is quite versatile. "War is Over" played over the speakers, and the decor takes you back to the 50s. That's the whole intent at Skooters- to take you back to the past, when America was a simpler place; that's the jist of their biography- which you can read on the back of the menu. Speaking of menu, this menu hits all the diner essentials. Breakfast all day long- check. Unlimited soda fountain- check. Family friendly- check. Wallet friendly- check check check! It was 6:00 pm, so naturally I chose the Cowboy omelet with white toast. Interestingly, the home fries come *in* this omelet, not on the side, and I totally recommend keeping it that way. You won't regret it. My partner got one of the specials, a 5 oz chili cheeseburger, which also did not disappoint. The bun was soft yet substantial, the chili was tasty, overflowing, and had BEANS! (which is a good thing for us, but fair warning to others). The food all came out super fast, and super delicious, and it was amazing because not only did the food come out great, but the whole place was being run by the cook. Yes, you heard me right, this whole experience was a one man show. We were instantly greeted and waited on byt this friendly waiter, who we found out was also the chef! He was multitasking better than I've ever seen in my life- being attentive to 6 or so parties while cooking their meals to order. It blew my mind how this man was able to do all that, and manage to give us small talk trivia about the jukebox blew my mind. I learned that he was doing this while he was awaiting a waitress to arrive, and that surprised me even more. His willingness to get the job done and so efficiently is unlike anything I've seen in a long time, and he should definitely be proud of his talents! Overall, I totally recommend this place. The prices are between Wendy's and Ruby Tuesday's, and the quality blows both those chains out of the water. If you're ever near Bradley Airport, check this little place out. It's good food at a good price, and the decor is totally cute. If you love American style diners, you'll love Skooters. read more

To the owner, food is good and I've been in many times. I just paid $10.06 for a bowl of chicken noodle soup. It was half filled by what looks like a new server. I'd have pitty but she seemed disinterested. Tough times for small business owners but your food cost in that bowl can't be $2. Come on. Sorry for the new hire. Must be exceedingly frustrating. I watched her work for 5 minutes and I wanted to fire her. Good luck. Sorry but I can't come back. Saw multiple health code issues all by that server. Avoid at all cost. I have given this place so many chances, but it is consistently the worst service I've experienced eating at a diner. Staff is rude, hours are inconsistent, and the food is okay at best. They've closed the doors on me twice now because they wanted to go home an hour early since they had no other customers around. They rush you to order and eat, then give you attitude if you give any hint of criticism. They're unfortunately the only diner in the area open past 5pm, so you just have to deal with them if you want that sort of food around here. read more

Today I ordered pancakes, they are also poor quality, tasted like "aunt Jamina's" pancakes (which taste like bad flower) and smelled like griddle, combo of meat, fish and fryer. My partner and I used to have a food joint on this strip and we always took great pride in how we treated customers, heck they are the GRAVY in a food business! This AM I met a friend for breakfast at Skooters, I noticed that there was a notice on the door that the credit card machine wasn't working, ok, I had my debit card, remember this... The lady serving with the blue baseball cap was OK to begin with but maybe my friend over stayed our visit, now mind you the place was busy but at no time was there a line or was it so busy that they needed our table, we were there for not quite 3 hours, catching up after months. As time went on the woman in the hat came and cleared stuff off of our table in an irritated manner, eventually clearing our plates when we were done, banging them around and glaring at us. My friend went to the lav and the server was doing the same rearranging of the next table & those customers looked as surprised as myself as to the clatter and disruptivness that was happening to them. When I went to pay I noticed that the sign about the credit card machine was gone so I pulled out my CC and asked if this was OK, she made a very nasty comment and snatched it out of my hand to run it. I was made to feel extremely uncomfortable. We also stated that we left a tip on the table which delivered another glare and grumble, classic - if looks were daggers. What the heck! This place is no frills, basic diner food, cash only, that the menu has a story about a flight attendant who quit to open a restaurant, which is cool, but then it really romanticizes the 50s, which is annoying. "Life was so perfect an innocent back then!" Yeah sure it was. Still, it's cute but standard. We have to order at the counter even at a table, and there's not a lot of tables. At one point I got up and just poured myself coffee because the pot was out in the open. I also had to go to counter to get silverware Then you pay at counter. So someone brings you food, but do you still tip 20% when I did most of the work that servers do? I had an omelette with toast and home fries. It's filling, but it's also the kind of food you could easily make at home. Can't usually go wrong with a diner and this place was no exception because they have a very basic diner menu with options that's you can mess up. We stopped here on our way to the airport for vacation at about 330 pm, which isn't a peak breakfast, lunch or dinner time but the place was still pretty busy for a Sunday afternoon. They claim to have famous home fries and I will say, they were very good and the portions were definitely shareable. Tonight my grandson and I had a dinner date excited to spend som alone time together. Our first attempt was Ruby Tuesday's Windsor Locks and left before even being seated very disappointed with our experience and the lack of customer service. We decided to go to Red Robin in Enfield. I asked him if he had ever been to Skooter's. Neither of us had. We looked up the reviews and various sites showed reviews 4.6 - 5 stars. We decided to try it out. We are so happy we did!!! The experience was far better than we expected. Bianca and Mike were staffed. My grandson is 12 and couldn't stop talking about how great the food was, how cozy the atmosphere was, and already planning our next visit. He ordered the cheeseburger special with bacon and I had the cheeseburger with bacon club. Both orders came with fries. We added a side of onion rings because of a review we read and had to try them. The review didn't do it justice. Homemade batter dipped onion rings that are fresh. Everything was cooked to perfection, thank you Mike! We even ordered a to go Caesar wrap to bring home to Bampa. Roman was impressed and commented about Bianca sitting down to take our order and how personalized he felt that was. It made him feel special. (His mom is in the food service industry) The meals are reasonably priced. At home nostalgic atmosphere. Thank you Bianca and Mike for making our evening special. This was our last minute stop before our return flight back to MIA. I am glad we stopped in here because the food was delicious. Being a big breakfast person it is important to me that a diner have a wide selection of options and Skooters delivered. There were a lot of items to choose from including corn beef hash (my favorite!) and all was made to order by the cook right in front of you. I had the eggs, bacon, toast, and home fries with a side of hash and my partner had the blueberry pancakes, eggs, sausage. Everything tasted as you'd imagine diner food to taste like. The place was clean, had appropriate themed music, very bright and cheerful decorations. My only con about the place is that it is CASH ONLY and although it is written on the bottom of the door as you walk in it is VERY easy to miss. I feel like the waitress should've mentioned it before we ordered because we didn't realize until half way through the meal and we would've been screwed if we had decided to order a beverage with our meal. They DO have an ATM inside but who the f wants to pay those outrageous ATM fees?! Also, the process of ordering/service was a bit odd. There was a sign that clearly stated people in tables need to go order at the bar but when I tried the waitress told me to sit down and she'd take my order. Overall a good diner experience, don't expect above and beyond service but do expect delicious freshly made diner food and a warm atmosphere. read more

I had driven by tons of times, but never gone inside. Well I was in a rush and didn't feel like Wendy's or some other chain (there are several in the area), so I gave it a shot. I had a standard hot dog and cheeseburger (in fact the server told me their small cheeseburgers are better than the large ones, so I took his word for it). Both were pretty good. The hot dog was just about right, nice and plump so that the casing almost pops when you bite into it. The buns didn't taste stale as a previous reviewer said, perhaps they fixed that, or she got a bad batch? As far as the service, the server was really nice, and the food was ready quickly. It was dead in there however, so I can't say I expected any less. They weren't White Hut delicious, but what is... The interior has a nice bar stool feel to it, and the counter is really long, which is great because I like sitting at the counter in burger joints like that (probably because it reminds me of the White Hut, heh..). One star for the politeness. However, everything went downhill after noticing some unclean actions. Food was being handled without gloves. I'm a fan of watching food being prepared. The pancakes made me excited. I woke up with the desire of having diner breakfast. I'm from Philly. You can literally go to any dinner and be satisfied from palate to stomach. The experience at Skooter's stopped when the wait/server staff handled the toast without gloves. These ladies also handled payments. Think about how many hands your credit/debit card has been touched by someone else. Better yet the cash that you give. Money is dirty beyond compare. I should take the star away because the manager lied and said he had on gloves. Ya didn't buddy. I watched as he put his bare hand in the shredded cheese for my omelette. Which was burnt.
