My wife and I never imagined we would have anything positive to say about our 20 year old furnace suddenly going out on us in the middle of a major cold snap. At first, we were completely stressed out about it. I tried to fix it myself, and quickly realized I was out of my depth and needed to call a professional. We contacted a few companies to get quotes, and were disappointed with the "used car salesman" type pitches we received, as well as the lack of responsiveness from some of the companies we called. Then we found Sky Heating and Cooling, and all of that changed. Before calling Sky, we decided to research the products they use and pull consumer reports to get a sense of the quality. Sky is certified to install Trane products, which consistently receive some of the highest marks by consumer reports for quality and reliability. When I called Sky, the first person I spoke with was Cate, and I was immediately struck by her professionalism and the customer service she provided. Cate scheduled a consultation for us, and gathered important information ahead of the appointment which helped expedite the process. Ryan, our system designer, arrived on time to the appointment. Ryan was professional, respectful, and friendly throughout the appointment. My wife and I noticed an obvious difference between Ryan and the other system designers who we previously consulted; at no point did we feel like Ryan was pressuring us to buy anything. He was sensitive to our concerns about balancing cost and quality, and provided 3 solid options that represented a range of functionality and cost. He answered all of our questions, and helped us make an informed decision. As a result, we choose the furnace that best suits our needs; Trane, 2 stage with 80/20 efficiency, variable speed fan motor, and a robust 4 inch Honeywell filter. We also elected to have our vents cleaned. Once we made our selection, we spoke with Kelly who pulled the necessary permits and scheduled both the vent cleaning and the installation. Impressively, Kelly was able to get us on the books for the vent cleaning the next day, and the installation the day after that. We really appreciated the sense of urgency with which Kelly responded to our needs, especially because at the time this was happening it was incredibly cold outside and we were relying on space heaters and a wood fireplace to keep our 2000 square foot home warm. Joe was the person who cleaned our ducts, and he arrived on time and was quick and efficient. The work he completed has made a substantial impact on the quality of our lives by reducing the particulates that were previously causing sinus issues for me. Earl installed our new furnace, and he also arrived on time to the appointment. He is clearly a professional in his field, because the install looks fantastic and passed inspection no problem. He was also very quick, at least in comparison to what a lay person might expect. One thing we asked Ryan to pass along to the installers is that my wife works from home, and the install needed to disrupt her work day as little as possible. Earl was respectful of this request, and as we expected per Ryan he only asked her to come down when it was time to walk her through how to use the thermostat and change the filter. Finally, Ryan came to our house after the successful inspection to make sure we were happy. We let him know we are very happy, and feel strongly that we made the right choice not only in the furnace that we selected, but also in the company we choose to install it. We would absolutely recommend Sky Heating and Cooling to anyone who is in need of their services. First, the Sky sales rep, Michael, was one of the best sales persons we have ever worked with in the past for any company. He was timely, courteous, professional, and clearly had a keen interest in finding the right product and features, plus explained different payment methods, all of which would best meet our needs and wants for a heat pump system for our home. Next, Dan came to see our home and discuss what would be involved in the installation of a heat pump system to replace our current heating system. Dan did an over-the-top job finding the best way for the installation to be done, asking us for our preferences along the way. He even came to our home on the day of the installation, which he had said he would try to do. Dan was so knowledgeable about how to make the removal of the current equipment and installation of the new system fit our home in the least disruptive or conspicuous way. He also answered all of our questions and concerns in detail and to our satisfaction. On the day of installation, the crew arrived punctually, parked in our driveway in such a way as to make it easy for all vehicles to fit. And, at the end of the day, the inside and outside of our home was almost as tidy and neat as before they arrived. Considering the job included the removal of our preexisting system being dismantled and taken away, plus the installation of a different system with more features, it was totally awesome. In fact, it was almost like the new system had been magically, poof, installed, and the previous equipment and Sky workers had vanished, leaving minimal traces of anything behind. All packaging was taken way, leaving the driveway spotless. On top of all this, the crew leader for the installation, Mario, provided excellent professional leadership with the installation crew person, Zack, who worked amazingly well with Mario. In addition, the electrician, Braxton, was another top-star person who did quality work and answered lots of extra electrical questions. We look forward to many years of a top quality, high-performing heat pump system. I can not begin to say enough great things about this company. I have been a customer of Sky Heating and Air Conditioning for a little over 2 years now. It started with having our 15 year old air conditioner and furnace serviced and we were so pleased with the service, professionalism and knowledge of their service tech Rick for our first years maintenance and Gerry for our second years maintenance that we started following their Facebook page and website to see about the other services they offer. We became very interested in the duct cleaning and Aeroseal service and called them to get information on the process and quote to have it done. After the service manager Michele explained how much more efficient the duct cleaning and Aeroseal would make our existing system we were sold. We booked them for the next week. Again, the crew that showed up, Cesar, Morgan and Corey were very courteous, professional, knowledgeable and answered our many questions. In the Aeroseal process they test the efficiency of your ductwork and we found out that our ductwork has the equivalent of a four foot hole in it, after the Aeroseal it was virtually airtight. In just a few short months we have noticed a considerable savings on our gas and electric bills. Another service that we have taken advantage of is the Laundry Pro. This device took their technician 15 minutes to install to our existing washing machine. The science is beyond me, but it uses only cold water and NO detergent. This is a big deal because our son has very sensitive skin. The clothes actually come out of the wash feeling cleaner and softer and again only cold water and no soap! More money in the bank for us! Next on our list of things that Sky Heating and Air Conditioning can do for us will be an air scrubber because our other son has severe seasonal allergies. Thurs, 25 Apr, I spoke with Tina from the plumbing department. After returning home from a 2-week visit with my family, I was greeted with a broken water heater. The earliest appointment available was Tues, 30 Apr; however, Tina said she would do her best to send somebody out sooner if possible. Less then two hours later, thankfully, Tina phoned to say she could send a plumber out in just a few hours. Michael Zaccagino came by later that morning, and by the end of the afternoon, I had a new water heater installed. Unfortunately, I was now experiencing an electrical problem with the water heater circuit breaker. Although everybody did their best to secure a Fri, 26 Apr appointment, the earliest available was Mon, 29 Apr. Michael called on Fri to follow-up on my situation. I truly appreciated his concern. Mon, 29 Apr, Michael returned with Steve and Dave to complete the finishing touches. Also, the electrician, Todd Yoxall, came by and resolved my circuit breaker problem. My water heater was now working. Finally, for about three months now, I've been unable to use a light switch in my basement. When I flipped the switch on, it made a crackling sound. Out of concern, I resigned myself to not using it anymore. I happened to ask Todd about it and I was willing to make a separate service call. Todd was so nice that not only did he inspect it right then and there, but he also adjusted the wires and replaced the light switch. I am now able to use the basement light again. Amazingly, thanks to Chris, the electrical department manager, I wasn't charged for any electrical work that day. Between my water heater and electrical issues, I was charged only for the water heater installation. My electrical repairs were completed at no charge to me. I have dealt with Mike B and Brian H. First off I appreciated that text messages and email are sent when they are on their way. Second I appreciated that they both wore masks. I have had other service people come in that did not wear masks so this was great to see. Mike came out to do a quote for A/C for me. I had also scheduled maintenance on my furnace but that was initially scheduled for November and Mike did not want to just provide a quote without knowing what condition the furnace was in just in case the furnace was not in good condition which as it turns out was a good thing. I liked that he was not just wanting to sell me an A/C unit to sell me a unit and wanted to make sure my current system was working well. Also because of this visit I got my maintenance moved up one month. That brings me to Brian. I have had maintenance done before but it always seemed like a quick in and out type of visit where they spend maybe 30 minutes and maybe in most cases this is fine, but Brian spent at least an hour reviewing my system and noting the issues which he then went over with me in detail. (I was super glad he came out early before the cold comes) Brian presented me 6 options in different price ranges that varied from just replacing the parts to not only replacing the parts but adding some additional options that will make the furnace more efficient and reliable for the future. I did not feel any pressure from either Brian or Mike and I felt they were being upfront and honest with me. While the news Brian gave me was not what I wanted to hear about my furnace I feel like I am in good hands and that my furnace will not only be more efficient but it will last longer and it will be in their capable hands for the foreseeable future. I wanted one ductless Mitsubishi mini split installed to heat my newly finished basement apartment. Karin, who provided the free consult, treated this very small project like it was worthy of her time...something that separated her from her competitors and something that I appreciated. At the end of the free consult, I felt comfortable with my options (didn't feel up-sold), she came in on budget, and left me feeling confident that everything would be done correctly by good people. And good people they were. Jim, the installer, verbalized a passion about ductless systems, demonstrated a pride in his work, and a had a child-like exuberance about the toy he just installed...something that was quite inspiring. Gordon, the electrician, was a down to earth person who felt bad about needing to cut into some finished drywall and made things right in his world by offering me a credit for something that was included in the bid, but ended up not using. Even the staff I worked over the phone with was competent and a pleasure to talk to. And of course, Karin, continued to follow-up during and after the installation to make sure I was receiving a great experience. In an over-populated world where it is so easy to make a customer just a number, this company somehow continues to pride themselves on providing old school, small town feel customer service. It's refreshing and feels good when the job is done right! The only feedback I had for Karin on how to make their service even better was to provide better customer education on what to expect on the day of installation and how the city mechanical/electrical permitting process worked. Of course, Karin was open to receiving this feedback and immediately had ideas in mind on how to correct it. read more

Our furnace 21 years, had shut down on a Wed afternoon, during the coldest stretch of the month of course. I couldn't get it to start up again. I called the folks at Sky Heating and they understood the priority of this situation. They sent over a technician the very next morning. The technician was kind and broke the news as nicely as he could: He diagnosed the problem as a cracked exchange. This can't be repaired. Greg Douglass came over to our home after 5 pm that same day, looked over the home & our needs for a new furnace. He was very friendly and professional offering up a couple of options with the total price, including all labor (no hidden fees). They made an opening to have it installed that Sat. He offered to have some space heaters brought over during the one day/night wait. On Sat at 8:30 AM, Morgan showed up to remove our broken heater and install the new furnace. The man was amazing! He spent the entire day plus (11 hours total!) installing the heater, reconfiguring the duct system of our old home, updating the electrical outlets after running into unexpected issues. Morgan had another appointment that evening, which he said was not urgent. He could have left our heater unfinished & returned to fix it the next day, but instead, he addressed each issue one after another. He said he would not leave until the job was done, and done correctly. It was a monumental effort so that my family would have heat for the sub 30 degree night that was approaching. After he finished, he could have canceled his other appointment, but he did not! Amazing work ethic. Morgan did an incredible job and we slept warmly that night and ever since. I highly recommend this business...They were accommodating, friendly and up front with the prices (which were quite reasonable). My wife and I flip houses and we now have finally found our permanent HVAC pros! We had the crew come out to our SE PDX rental (we're selling it) September 12th to install a new furnace and AC, and replace the old breaker panel. Miko was the sales rep -- he did an amazing job getting us set up -- and Maria handled the install admin over the phone. Andrey and his partner (I did not catch his name) began the install bright and early....despite how old our place is (built in 1912), they did a superb job and got everything installed and ready for the electricians. A couple days later the electricians, Braxton and Bryan, arrived to begin the install of a brand-new breaker panel, and the wiring to the furnace and outside AC unit. They also did an awesome job dealing with our cranky old basement. Dan showed up later to troubleshoot getting our old chimney vented -- he even warned me about the condition of the chimney up roofside, which I greatly appreciated. The next day, when everything was done, Zack and Enrique met me there to do a thorough cleaning and sealing of the vent system. We have worked with many sub-contractors over the last few years, and honestly these folks were the finest we've met. From start to finish, everyone that worked on our project was not only very professional but also very, very nice. I've always said I would rather work with a nice person who does a decent job than a person who does very amazing work but is a jerk.....with Sky, we got the best of both worlds: amazing, professional work and pleasant people! I was very impressed with how they all handled their jobs and the various "surprises" that show up on a house that's over a century old. Without a doubt, we will definitely be using them again! I own a duplex and found out during a scheduled furnace cleaning that both my (ancient) gas furnaces needed to be replaced. One of the apartments gets very hot in the summer so I was interested in a heat pump system there, and a simple gas furnace replacement for the other apartment. I gathered three quotes and chose Sky for a number of reasons - their careful and thorough attention to the house; their respectful manner; and their expertise with both types of systems. The rep, Charlie, was very down to earth. He noted issues and requirements without making a big deal about them and helped me think through various scenarios. He was available over the next few days to answer any questions I had and was invaluable in his communication with Energy Trust, producing the paperwork they needed and answering their questions over multiple phone calls and emails. I wanted the new heating systems installed as quickly as possible, and Sky scheduled me right away. The two leads, Mario and Abel, did a great job and were a cheerful presence. They talked me through the install beforehand, checked in every now and then when a question came up, and took their time showing me both systems once the install was completed. They left everything cleaner than they found it. Both systems were up and running in a day and a half. Communication was consistently excellent, and masks were worn. Sky's estimate was competitive, though not the least expensive, but I had the sense that Sky was going to do the best job for me. This proved to be true. It was an unexpected expense, but the professionalism and friendliness of the people at Sky turned it from a stressful experience into a pleasant and satisfying one. We have three homes under service contract with Sky heating and air and installed 2 units at our rental duplex in West Linn a few years back, all by Sky heating and air. So we're big fans however during the latest heat wave our AC unit would not cool off even after we just had it checked. Honestly Brian who came out to do the annual check on our AC unit gave us the options but weather being what it was rainy and cool we didn't go forward plus we're in a bit of a financial strain right now so when it didn't cool off called sky only to find out that we couldn't get a service technician there till July 12. That was very disappointing to hear however we got a call shortly after letting us know that Jason would arrive later that evening to take a look at our unit and we were thrilled. We could not have been more satisfied with Jason he was kind considerate even compassionate understanding that we had a very old unit that needed a lot of work but he gave us options did not pressure us to buy a new unit or pat for expensive repairs that we couldn't afford right now. I truly since that Jason understood this and it is very best to provide options for us that we could be happy about. Ultimately he gave us an option we could live with and got our unit going just in time for the last hot day before some of the cool weather came back. My wife and I are hoping we can get through August then decide about purchasing a new unit. First off, Sky Heating gave me notice of a window of time their tech would arrive when booking the appointment. The day before, they narrowed down the window when the tech would arrive and on the day of the appointment, they sent an e-mail and text announcing the tech was on the way. This was greatly appreciated and a welcome difference from the eight hour windows that are sometimes given by other types of appointments when techs are sent on-site. I didn't have to sit around all day wondering when a tech would show up. I completely understand that it is impossible to foresee how the day may progress, but it was just the committed communication and updates that made the process so much easier to plan my day. On the day of my appointment, Morgon P. arrived with a mask on, which was appreciated, and was very polite and personable. Our house was an embarrassing mess and he made me feel okay about it without being condescending. The issue with the air conditioner had to do with a circuit breaker, which didn't make me feel too terribly bright, but again, Morgon handled it well and didn't make me feel out of sorts. He gave the furnace and air conditioning unit a good lookover and made gave some good recommendations and advice. The whole experience was far less painless than I was expecting, and while this time the solution was simple , the professionalism of Morgon makes me feel confident that I can look to Sky to take care of any future needs I may have concerning my furnace/air conditioner. read more

As posted on Nextdoor: We had an air conditioning system installed a few weeks ago in our 100+ year old home. We have a 4 story home including basement and finished attic space. We hired Sky Heating and Cooling for the install. All I can do is applaud this company for a job well done every step of the way, from designing the install plan, all the way through clean up! Coming up with a system that would work for our space was very challenging and Sky was the 3rd company we had come out to consult. Karin spent over an hour determining a unit that would work within our limitations and specifications and problem solved ducting. The other companies we had come out did not provide us with accurate information and would have compromised the look of our old craftsman. I was amazed at how respectful Karin and the installers (Uziel and his assistant) were about our historic home, from protecting it during the job to cutting into the plaster ceilings to install the vents. The installers were beyond courteous and even offered to help carry in my groceries! We went with a ducted split unit air conditioner and let me tell you, it works like a dream! Jake did an outstanding job with our installation. I wasn't able to be home during the process, so my wife took the day off to be there. Jake took the time to walk her through every step of the installation, explaining exactly what he was doing and why. He also showed her several issues with our previous furnace installation. The original installer had done a poor job, which was causing our air conditioning condensation to drain back under the house. Additionally, the ductwork connecting the furnace to the house had been installed incorrectly, forcing the system to work much harder than necessary and reducing its overall efficiency. Jake's professionalism, attention to detail, and willingness to educate us throughout the process were truly impressive. The new installation is top-notch--everything looks clean, well-organized, and professionally done. He even improved the filter access, making future maintenance much easier. Most importantly, the system performs exceptionally well. Our house cools down much faster, airflow throughout the home is noticeably better, and everything operates exactly as it should. Had a bad burning smell coming into the house last Friday night just as our furnace started making a strange noise. Afraid that this might pose a fire hazard, I called Sky Heating with the thought I'd have them come out immediately. The after hours service immediately connected me with Matthew, who took the time to listen to the "symptoms" of the problem and talk to me about a few options of what it could be, and put us at ease that it would likely not be a fire hazard (but could turn off the unit at the breaker box if that would make us feel better). I told him I'd call him Monday to make an appointment. Monday Morning Sky called ME to follow up. Tuesday Les came over (even showed up early) and ran some diagnostics, at the same time as giving me an excellent lesson on how a modern furnace works and what might go wrong. He found the problem, explained it to me as well as the solution and promptly fixed the furnace. I can't say enough about the excellent customer service from first call to fixing the problem. And a special thanks to Matthew for the Friday call, and Les for the patience with all my questions and great education on furnaces!. I was a new customer, and the office support was very friendly on the phone and made scheduling a furnace repair very easy. Their system provides convenient notifications for estimated arrival time, along with a photo of the assigned technician and tracking capability. Our technician Don W was friendly and professional, and while our furnace first seemed to perform adequately, he took the time to thoroughly investigate when I explained more about how it wasn't working for us. He made the fix and cycled a few times to ensure the repair was complete, and it's continued running well for us. While we had not kept up with the recommended furnace maintenance schedule that could have prevented the issue, he was not judgmental and provided a helpful variety of service and equipment options we can consider going forward. He also took the time to answer other questions I had unrelated to the repair at hand. Their system's follow-up email with the diagnostic summary and quote attachments was excellent. We had a PRV fail on our house unexpectedly and had almost no pressure. The entire house would literally shake if you opened a faucet or flushed the toilet. I called a ton of companies and couldn't get anything closer than a week out. Sky was the most reasonable timeframe, but they initially couldn't get an appointment for two days. However, Ash (super friendly lady who took my call) marked me as urgent, then called me back an hour later and got a plumber out the very same day! I received upates via text regarding the appointment and then information about the plumber who was coming to do the job - great communication. The plumber (Joel) was awesome. He explained what was going on, and noted that there was a better way to set it up than the last installer had done. He got it fixed up in no time at all and we have better pressure than ever PLUS a correctly installed pressure regulating system.
