First off, this hidden gem has by far the best sushi and sashimi I've ever had. I hear they get a huge amount of seafood straight from Asia, and the chef turns raw fish into an art form. Everything is super fresh and they do an awesome job of garnishing each dish. Can't say enough about the food here! Secondly, the staff is super friendly, extremely efficient, and takes really good care in all that they do. I was hoping to find a way to privately message the owners but I don't see that so unfortunately I have to leave a review. This was sadly some of the worst sushi we have ever had (better sushi in Phoenix, AZ). The quality was very poor, messy, the presentation could have looked nice but the carrot used was dirty. The sashimi was so bad :( tasted like it came straight from the freezer. We had to leave so much food because it tasted so bad and I hate doing that, we rarely leave food on the table. The server was nice but when we brought the issues to her attention she got very defensive. I asked for yellowtail instead of the poor quality tuna they gave me and she brought out a cheap white fish that was certainly not yellowtail. I understand times are tough and businesses are trying to make it any way they can but this was so, so bad. There was also an issue with another staff member. i'm so surprised that this place has such a high rating. we were SHOOK at the quality of fish here. we knew something was up when the slices of sashimi arrived and they were thicker than a snicker. the tuna was *clearly* recently defrosted and jeez, don't even get me started on the "specialty roll". we got the superman burrito and what? who? the f? what in the peter piper picking pickled peppers was that? maybe it was our fault for thinking the roll would be served with real crab, not imitation krab - i thought that was sneaky. usually places spell it like krab so you know it's not the real deal. what we got was a massive burrito (they got part of the name down) filled, nay, stuffed with california roll mixture (krab + mayo) with a soggy tempura shrimp in the middle with some off-tasting spicy tuna. girl. i love imitation krab, ok? but that? that was wrong. my bf took one bite, looked me dead in my eyes and said, "that was one of the most disgusting things i've ever had at a restaurant." i'm not tryna be a debbie flounder (downer) but this place is a no for me fam. service was kind and fast and the restaurant is pretty small and clean. look, maybe we went on an off night considering the reviews are so good. they had udon and bentos, perhaps that's the way to go. read more

If you like rolls this is the place for you. Service is really good and accommodating. We were going to go to Shunka but it was full and we were ok with eating rolls tonight. They have a good menu and rolls with no rice. I asked for a chef special and it was a beautiful presentation with the chef coming to our table and poured sauce tableside. This is not on the menu and you have to ask for it special. Also ordered baked scallops roll with cucumber, this was a light roll without rice. The other rolls such as Alaska was also good. The lady in red roll was ok too. I think we just ordered too many rolls as we were stuffed. I was thinking of 3 stars as a rating, but they really do a good job in service and their rolls were ok, so I gave the 4 stars as I added the 4th star for service. It's just I prefer more traditional japanese roll, so I probably won't be coming back anytime soon. read more

Sadly, we won't be back. Visited today for lunch (and we were the ONLY ones at 12:30 on a Friday- clue #1) and the quality was really not good, yet the prices were some of the highest I've seen around here. Salmon sashimi was still frozen and crunchy with ice. Rolls were 90% fake crab (even when it was one of 6 listed ingredients of a roll) and tempura inside rolls tasted as though it was cooked yesterday and refrigerated overnight (soggy and cold). To top it off, our $70 lunch (YES, $70!) was a single lunch combo, one 5 piece sashimi, and one roll. Everything here tasted pre made and left to sit in an overly cold refrigerator. The wasabi was really wet and the sriracha was turning brown. The (cucumber and grape stem tree) garnish looked like it had been reused for at least a week and was shriveling away. A final note to the owner/manager...when you raise prices on your lunch specials by $2-3, you should bite the bullet and run off a few new paper menus instead of wasting ink crossing out prices and writing the higher price next to it...paper costs a few cents and these were just run off a copier, nothing special sent to print.
