I met a large group of people for lunch at this diner in Midtown. The service was friendly, very accommodating and fast. My broiled filet of sole was Ok, but not great. The green salad, broccoli, potato salad and strawberry shortcake were better. Other people seemed to really enjoy their food...ranging from burgers, omelets, tuna salad, French toast, etc. Matzo ball soup was a big hit. For diner food this place is pretty good, just don't expect a gourmet experience or much atmosphere (not good for a date). Portions are huge. Probably good for a delivery meal...something like meatloaf should work. read more

The best things about this place are the service and the sausages. Nice waitstaff, very friendly person at the register. I suppose the ambiance is nice enough, too. It's rarely crowded... And those sausages! Get an order on the side if you like sausages. Others have written about them here, too. Now the rest--they use cheap ingredients, actual Log Cabin syrup which they give you in the bottle (I'm not sure there's any actual maple syrup in it...) Corn beef hash is clearly straight out of the Hormel can. The rest of the food that's actually prepared is pretty bland. I had pancakes (the ones that received the Log Cabin syrup) and they were tough and pretty leathery. Feh. As diners go, this is nothing to write home about, but again, the sausage...just wish they'd spend a little more on the ingredients when they charge $18 for a corn beef hash. read more

Just visited this Diner with my friends. The service was very sweet and attentive. I like when restaurants are use to tourist so they ask alot of questions however he could have explained the menus in a few more words. The food portions were big and can stay on your stomach all day walking around NYC. The Diner gives a "needs an upgrade" feel that all diners give. Quick breakfast before movie. The place was half full when we went at about 11:30am on a Saturday and we were seated immediately. Took a minutes to decide and when ready the waitress took our order soon after. The food came out quickly and was good. However, when we were ready to leave, the wait staff was bit delayed since they were busy with other patrons. So not much issue. My tex mex breakfast was quesadilla with jalapeño, cheddar, and sausage, served with guacamole and home fries. I asked for less jalapeno so it wouldn't be too spicy and possibly upset my stomach before watching movie. The quesadilla was good, home fries standard but good, and guacamole was ok. My friend's omelette was a standard omelette that is good. The menu is large and I definitely would go back to try other food. The menu is extensive so there was something for everyone, which was good when traveling with a teen and tween that sometimes want comfort food instead of adventurous eating. I eat a strict carnivore diet. I ordered three poached eggs and bacon. They are both perfectly cooked, and they gave me 6 big pieces of bacon. The staff are extremely friendly. The price is comparable to other diners stopped at in midtown for the exact same thing. The place is clean with no weird smells or offending odors. The A/C is working great without the vents that make.ice cold spots at one table and heat zones in the other. The temp is nice and balanced throughout. We came here early Sunday and were seated immediately. The waitress was super friendly and nice!! My bf got the california omelette and I got the patty melt. The issue with the patty melt was that the cheese was not melted....it also came with american cheese I think I should have asked if there was swiss. The burger was rubbery and very dry. The fries tasted like butter for some reason. The omelette didn't really look like an omelette...it just had the egg, tomato, onion, mushroom, etc all mushed together and so some of the ingredients were overcooked while other ingredients were undercooked. The hashbrown fries had a weird light orange color..... Overall food is average (if you are really hungry you may not mind) but service is really good. For the price I feel like there are def better places. Our total was around 35 before tip for the 2 dishes. read more

We had a group of 13 come here for breakfast, and we had a great experience. The servers are super friendly, and handled our large group really well. Tons of options on the menu, including a few decent vegan items. I had the beyond burger, which was nothing spectacular but tasted pretty good. Only negative comment would be that the bathroom was a little sketchy- not very clean and the soap dispenser wasn't working, so they had opened up the top and you had to dip your hand inside to get soap. The hand dryer also did not work well. I will say this made me a little concerned about the hygiene of the staff. We sat there for 10-12 mins before we were finally served water or asked what we would like. The waiter was to busy eating and chatting to see us seated at his booth. It's a tourist spot - period! Keep it simple and the food will arrive before you finish saying, "check please!". I kept it simple and it wasn't a mess up. Eggs with fries and toast. All piping hot which is perfect. My baby had a parfait with fresh fruits and honey. She also wanted a toasted plain bagel- done perfectly. The prices are a little high, but that's expected based on the location. I love diners and dinr food, and have been delighted over the yearfs to have this place just four blocks from my home. It's clean and well-lighted; the people are nice and the food is varied, plenteous and good. But recently I took my entire extended family there for a mammoth pig-out breakfast--and somewent wrong. The service was sloppy, slow and inattentive. The food was off--even the teenagers didn't clean their plates--and normally if you ask a teenager how the meal was, the answer invariably is "More." The next day, still; smarfting from the experience, I wrote a letter of complaint (not an e-mail), addressed it "To Manager or Owner," and left it with the cashier. Nothing for about three weeks. Then my phone range. It was one of the four owners, full of apologies and explanations. I hadn't put my phone number in the letter, so at first he had actually WALKED OVER TO MY BUILDING, hoping to find me at home to apologize in person! I wasn't in, but he had persevered and finally, somehow, found my phoine number. He was very distressed by my poor exprience, and invited me back anytime for a replacement meal for me and my clan. He was as sinceres as he was distressed. And I'm impressed. I know what customer service is and what customer service ins't. And THAT was customer service of a kind I have never experienced before--and I'm 84 years old. So write down the address. You never know when you'll need a diner. read more

If you find yourself on 34th Street/Penn Station in NYC and looking for excellent diner food then I'd highly recommend Skylight Diner. This place is a totally chilled and quiet spot to grab coffee, enjoy a meal and have nice chats if you are visiting with others. I'd met a friend here after work on a very cold November evening. We'd enjoyed hot tea and I'd ordered their breaded chicken cutlet on a role with french fries. I have a thing for having chicken cutlet sandwiches at diners. I'd totally enjoyed my meal. I'm weird like this but, I was surprised by how much chicken cutlet they served. I have to say their breaded chicken cutlet is yummy. My friend ordered their vegetable omelette and it looked and smelled delicious. I have to say this is my new diner spot in NYC. I'm definitely looking forward to visit again.
