I was craving diner food and was not disappointed coming into Townhouse! It had the perfect diner vibes - chill, just enough people but not crowded/empty and retro decor. It had giant menus (coupled with giant portions) and our server was very nice and kind. I got the Nutella pancakes that came with walnuts, bananas, strawberries, and whipped cream - SO good' My partner got the jalapeño cheddar onion omelette with home fries, which he was able to finish and said it was very tasty. Definitely will be coming back to the diner very soon!

On our brief recent trip to NYC, Jamie W and I ended up going to well established diners for breakfast every morning. Such a touristy thing to do, I know. B&H Dairy, La Bonbonniere, and EJ's Luncheonette were all satisfying in their own ways, but unfortunately I can't really say the same about this old school Midtown East diner. I think it started with the owner. Clearly he must've felt some customers took advantage of his business, which might explain his explicit surcharges for making substitutions and accommodating plate sharing. Neither applied to me and Jamie W, but the intent of the message was pretty clear. We ordered simply. Jamie went for the $16 Western Omelette but asked for the fruit salad instead of the home fries (photo: https://yelp.to/qJTRsIGeyl). Dropping the potatoes didn't drop the price, but the fruit salad added $4. I ordered the $16 Mushroom Omelette and kept the home fries as part of my plate (photo: https://yelp.to/eWwG-3NvrH). I, however, forked over the $4 for the same fruit salad Jamie received (photo: https://yelp.to/QhFZakRlqW). Nonetheless, the server forgot to give us the toast. I reminded her when she passed by a while later, but I ultimately had to get up and get it myself. Jeez. FOOD - 3 stars...the fruit was good, the eggs just average AMBIANCE - 3 stars...pretty standard NYC coffee shop and not that busy SERVICE - 1.5 stars...this is where they fell short TOTAL - 2 stars...I think I'll pass RELATED - Hungry in NYC? If you're in the area looking for breakfast come here! This place is run by a sweet elderly man and a woman who served us. Not a big place but a true diner like experience. Please support this place. It's truly a gem!!! Ambiance is quiet with a hint of radio in the background. Yes, it's on the pricey side but you're in NYC and it's located midtown east. Cost of living is high. Just enjoy the food and the service. I'll be going back.

When did diners becaome the biggest ripoff in the city? Or anywhere for that matter? Can someone recommend an actually good diner that doesn't completely rob you? It ain't this miraculously 4 star diner... I smell BS. $50 for a dry, open faced "monte Cristo," & a bagel with 3 eggs, and bacon that had ZERO FLAVOR. Gtfo of heeeeerrrre. Flies at every sticky table. What are you doing with your life if you're a regular, seriously?

It shoots, it scores!! Great omelette -- fluffy, tasty, well balanced. Eggs over medium... actually over medium. Hash-browns: I ordered well done. Outside was crispy and cooked to order. Inside, kind of fluffy/smooth. Interesting. Coffee, a bit on the bitter side, but still within the tolerance/margin of error. Service: competent, warm but not overly friendly. Come here. It's good.

Tucked away in Midtown East is an old fashioned, family owned diner. Light beams in from windows in the front. Booths line one side of the restaurant while on the other there is a long bar you can sit at. I visited Townhouse Diner in the mid afternoon so it was rather empty and quiet. The gent who appeared to be the owner (or manager) checked on me immediately and in no time I had a much needed glass of water and a menu in front of me. I wound up ordering my standard omelette: spinach, mushroom and Swiss cheese. My food came out quickly and it was still nice and hot. The omelette was good! Good amount of eggs and vegetables. I had some cole slaw in place of hash browns and they were good (not quite at the level of Sarge's but that's a high bar). The rye toast was good though I prefer my toast a bit more brown than they did it. Much to my surprise, my meal ended with a complimentary fruit plate - something I've legit never seen at a diner before! Overall I was very happy with my meal. Overall I had a great experience at Townhouse and I'd happily go back again.

It was our first time eating at a Friedman's location. It had a nice diner feel to it, with a mix of booths and tables. The brunch menu has a variety of breakfast items, salads, sandwiches and burgers, starters, and entrees (fish tacos, grain bowl, fried chicken). I like that several of the items are naturally gluten free, and some can be made gluten free by request. We decided to go with three breakfast items from the brunch menu: I got the shakshuka, my sister got the Nova Benny, and we got the lemon ricotta pancakes to share. All 3 dishes were great. The shashuka came with grilled ciabatta, perfect for dipping into the sunny side eggs and tomato sauce. My sister loved that the poached eggs and smoked salmon of the Nova Benny came on top of a crispy potato latke. The pancakes were fluffy and the lemon ricotta and lemon zest elevated their flavor. Our server was friendly and attentive, and he asked us if we had any allergies when he took our order. He came by several times to check on us and refill water. I would return to Friedman's when I'm in the Herald Square area, or check out one of their other locations in the city.

The restaurant has a welcoming neighborhood atmosphere that fits well with their comfort-food focused menu, and the dining room stays lively without being too loud, making it easy to settle in and take our time. The food here leans classic brunch, but there are enough options that make it stand out. The chicken and waffles are a must-try, with the crispy chicken paired with the sweet waffles for a satisfying balance that hits both savory and sweet notes in one plate. The lemon ricotta pancakes are another highlight, with a lighter texture and a nice flavor that does not feel overly sweet, allowing the ricotta to add a subtle creaminess. We also liked the pastrami hash and the latke with smoked salmon and poached eggs, which bring more savory options to the menu and give the brunch spread a bit more variety beyond the usual sweet offerings. The portions are generous, and the flavors are straightforward but well executed. One thing that stood out was how many dietary options were available, especially with clearly marked gluten-free choices across the menu. It made the experience feel more accommodating without making the menu feel overly complicated or scattered. The service was friendly and attentive, and the overall experience felt comfortable from start to finish. The staff checked in at the right moments and kept the pace of the meal moving without rushing us. Friedman's is the type of place that works well when you are craving a familiar brunch meal done well. It is not trying to reinvent breakfast, but it delivers a reliable, satisfying meal with a welcoming atmosphere that makes it easy to return to. Whether you are stopping in for a quick bite or settling in for a longer catch-up session, it offers the kind of consistent, comforting experience that keeps neighborhood spots like this in regular rotation.

We got their garganelli, tagliatelle, and ravioli pastas. For dessert, the iconic tiramisu. Garganelli- This has a nice, arugula pesto sauce that has a rich garlicky finish. It's enhanced with roasted mushrooms and sharp pecorino. Tagliatelle- You get a rich pork and beef bolognese. The house made pasta is cooked to perfection. Pretty satisfying! Ravioli- This is a light, seasonal dish with pumpkin, brown butter, and sage. The sauce complements the sweet pumpkin and the brown butter adds a nuttiness. Tiramisu- This dessert was too cute to eat! It was decorated with a meek looking model of their namesake lamb. Nobody wanted to ruin its face so we slowly ate this from the outside in. I appreciated the char going down the stem as well but think it could have been cooked for a bit longer to make the stems less snappy in texture
