    Nutella Pancakes

I was craving diner food and was not disappointed coming into Townhouse! It had the perfect diner vibes - chill, just enough people but not crowded/empty and retro decor. It had giant menus (coupled with giant portions) and our server was very nice and kind. I got the Nutella pancakes that came with walnuts, bananas, strawberries, and whipped cream - SO good' My partner got the jalapeño cheddar onion omelette with home fries, which he was able to finish and said it was very tasty. Definitely will be coming back to the diner very soon!

On our brief recent trip to NYC, Jamie W and I ended up going to well established diners for breakfast every morning. Such a touristy thing to do, I know. B&H Dairy, La Bonbonniere, and EJ's Luncheonette were all satisfying in their own ways, but unfortunately I can't really say the same about this old school Midtown East diner. I think it started with the owner. Clearly he must've felt some customers took advantage of his business, which might explain his explicit surcharges for making substitutions and accommodating plate sharing. Neither applied to me and Jamie W, but the intent of the message was pretty clear. We ordered simply. Jamie went for the $16 Western Omelette but asked for the fruit salad instead of the home fries (photo: https://yelp.to/qJTRsIGeyl). Dropping the potatoes didn't drop the price, but the fruit salad added $4. I ordered the $16 Mushroom Omelette and kept the home fries as part of my plate (photo: https://yelp.to/eWwG-3NvrH). I, however, forked over the $4 for the same fruit salad Jamie received (photo: https://yelp.to/QhFZakRlqW). Nonetheless, the server forgot to give us the toast. I reminded her when she passed by a while later, but I ultimately had to get up and get it myself. Jeez. FOOD - 3 stars...the fruit was good, the eggs just average AMBIANCE - 3 stars...pretty standard NYC coffee shop and not that busy SERVICE - 1.5 stars...this is where they fell short TOTAL - 2 stars...I think I'll pass RELATED - Hungry in NYC? If you're in the area looking for breakfast come here! This place is run by a sweet elderly man and a woman who served us. Not a big place but a true diner like experience. Please support this place. It's truly a gem!!! Ambiance is quiet with a hint of radio in the background. Yes, it's on the pricey side but you're in NYC and it's located midtown east. Cost of living is high. Just enjoy the food and the service. I'll be going back.

    Monte Cristo - dry, bland

When did diners becaome the biggest ripoff in the city? Or anywhere for that matter? Can someone recommend an actually good diner that doesn't completely rob you? It ain't this miraculously 4 star diner... I smell BS. $50 for a dry, open faced "monte Cristo," & a bagel with 3 eggs, and bacon that had ZERO FLAVOR. Gtfo of heeeeerrrre. Flies at every sticky table. What are you doing with your life if you're a regular, seriously?

Eggs over medium over hash-brows (bacon on top)

It shoots, it scores!! Great omelette -- fluffy, tasty, well balanced. Eggs over medium... actually over medium. Hash-browns: I ordered well done. Outside was crispy and cooked to order. Inside, kind of fluffy/smooth. Interesting. Coffee, a bit on the bitter side, but still within the tolerance/margin of error. Service: competent, warm but not overly friendly. Come here. It's good.

I ordered the Kale Chicken Caesar Salad, which comes with grilled chicken, kale, Caesar dressing, croutons, Parmesan cheese, and a huge piece of buttered bread. I also added grilled steak cooked medium because apparently one protein wasn't enough for me. Both the chicken and steak were flavorful, and the steak was cooked exactly how I wanted it. The salad was filling enough to feel like an actual meal rather than just something light. I also ordered the Strawberry Margarita, which was only $10 thanks to their all day, everyday margarita special. And listen, they are NOT playing with that margarita. It was strong but still tasted really good, which is exactly the balance I want from a cocktail. I ate alone and really liked the seating setup. I had a cute little booth that felt perfect for a solo diner, but it would work just as well for two people. The restaurant also has plenty of seating for larger groups, so it seems like an easy choice whether you're eating alone or coming with friends or family. The servers were attentive to me and assisted me quickly. They also checked in on me multiple times. The interior was another highlight. There's a beautiful wall covered with different pieces of artwork that adds a lot of character to the restaurant and makes the space feel much more visually interesting than your typical diner. Overall, this was a great quick meal while I was out running errands. Good food, a surprisingly strong $10 margarita, and a comfortable atmosphere for dining solo. I'd definitely stop in again when I'm in the area.

Do not show up here without a reservation, as it is very popular! The interior is your typical diner vibe. We loved seeing the pastries on display in the case while we queued for the table to be ready. I had the avocado salad with chicken, and my mom opted for the salted caramel waffle and hash browns. Everything was delicious and huge portions. Our waitress was very slow and didn't check on us much at all, but the great food made up for it. Make sure to stop by here with a reservation!

Aside from that, we had a fantastic experience here at Friedmans Herald Square near Penn Station. They were playing Hilary Duff music, which was such a fun touch since they often match the vibe of whatever is happening at MSG! They even had special Hilary Duff mocktails. The atmosphere is super sweet and cozy. The restaurant was empty when we first walked in, but the second we sat down, it completely packed up! The waiter was very friendly, and even though they weren't able to split the check at the table, they did provide an itemized receipt to make figuring it out easy. The food was great overall--the Mac & Cheese bites and the corn were especially good! We also tried the cheesecake and molten cake. Plus, the neighbors sitting next to us were so sweet. The food here is expensive and overpriced for diner food, but you're in Times Square and this is a known tourist trap, so if you go in with the right expectations, you'll have a good time. I got the Be Bop a Lula Burger which came with mushrooms, onions, and bacon and it was a solid burger. I also really liked how crunchy the waffle fries were. Would I normally pay nearly $30 for a burger? No. But I came here to hear the talented singers perform Broadway songs so I just chose an entree for the sake of it. The Sunset Swan Song mocktail was refreshing. They are quick with service which I appreciated. Fast forward to 2026 (where I'm finally not broke as hell), the day has finally come, and I am ecstatic about stepping foot into this diner that surprisingly is still standing in 2026. The inside certainly feels like a diner, but not quite the old-school dinginess that I'm used to--it's clean. Given that it was Sunday at noon, it was very crowded in there and mainly flooded with tourist groups, but a table opened up for us pretty quickly. For a NYC diner, the menu is certainly small - this is probably done to keep tables moving faster. I got the Pastrami Hash & Eggs and it was just overdone and super oily and dry--almost as if they just refried everything except the sunnyside egg. Not gonna lie, I was very disappointed, given that I had waited for so long to come here, only to get food that was an attempt to give the staleness another chance by refrying and reheating. I actually beat myself up a little the rest of the day for finishing the whole thing, knowing that the oversaltiness was flirting with opening up some high blood pressure. It was also not moderately priced by any means (was close to $30), but I know I'm helping pay for that Midtown and proximity to Central Park pricing. Not sure if I'll return, which saddens me, but also knowing that they're part of a conglomerate at Fireman Group (and still run independently in a sense) makes total sense
