Skyline Chili is the best Cincinnati style chili in town. Cincy chili includes spaghetti, chili and grated cheese for a 3-way; add onions for a 4-way and add beans for a 5-way. All are awesome choices. Really hungry? Then add a cheese coney which is a small hotdog on a bun covered with chili and grated cheese with your choice of onions and mustard. This downtown Skyline is one of the busiest in town at lunch time but they are also one of the quickest and best. They are always friendly and aim to please. Cincinnati style chili is a favorite of Cincinnati natives and those adventurous enough to try it. As a University of Cincinnati student I learned to love Skyline and now it's in my blood . The "coneys" are an insult to Coney Island. Coney Island gives you great, large dogs. Skyline gives you cocktail wieners. There's no beef taste because there's really no beef. This is placed in a giant bun. Why? Because buns are cheap. This is covered with chili. Not sure, but the chili was probably ok. It wasn't a driving flavor like the bun was. This is drenched in shredded cheese flavored product. It certainly wasn't cheese, and it's piled incredibly high. It's too bad i can't find an entry for just a general 'skyline', but i suppose the one downtown will do. While i really can't say i enjoy Cincinnati chili, i can say that i *really* enjoy the little oyster crackers and hot sauce. Also - i've grown quite fond of the Vegetarian black beans & rice. If cincinnati style chili is not your thing, i'd strongly suggest going for the veg black beans & rice instead. It's hard to describe, but it's almost like black bean soup, but with a more soup like texture. Throw in some of the famous shredded cheddar cheese (you'll have to get this on the side or steal some from your friends), add a dollop of sour cream, and some crackers & hot sauce - and you should be good to go. During a recent trip to Cincinnati, my boyfriend and I thought we better try Skyline. It's silly because they have them in Northeast Ohio, but I've never tried it so we decided to give it a go for a quick cheap meal. It was so terrible that I don't even have much to say about the food, other than it's terrible. Our waitress was friendly and inviting, explained the signature dishes to us and served us promptly. Everyone in the store (including a nearby patron) was really excited that it was our first visit. I read the back of the menu describing the founder of the restaurant and how he dreamed that he could share the Greek recipes from his childhood with the world. Chili? Greek? Okay, then! When the chili 5-way was placed before me, I was excited. It was cold outside, I love chili, who doesn't love noodles and gobs of cheese? IT WAS TERRIBLE. These maniacs put cinnamon in their chili! CINNAMON! I don't think it had even a dash of chili powder. If this is what Greeks think chili is, I can't begin to understand why. The little crackers were good. The waitress was absolutely a doll. Everything else was terrible. This may be a preference thing, but to me, if it tastes like cinnamon it's not chili. I ate a cinnamon roll the next day to try to recover from the trauma, but even the roll seemed to be not quite right. Hopefully I recover soon. I had a skyline chili dog while in Cincy for a ball game and I was tragically disappointed. First of all, the thing is ginormous. It's a hot dog laden with literally 2 lbs of shredded cheese and a can of chili. Now, show me the cheese, I can't get enough cheese, but this amount of cheese was overpowering. I thought to myself, why place this much cheese on a place "famous" for their chili. Well, to be frank, the chili is simple. There's nothing special about it, and it actually has an awkward taste to it. I would rather eat Hormel's out of a can. I give it 2 stars because the idea of a chili cheese dog laden with cheese and chili is fantastic.....but the amount of goop thrown on this dog kills it, and makes for a very messy experience. I give this an enthusiastic 2 stars because the service was stellar and the decor is quite nice! and they even had wonderfully drawn fountain DR Pepper! I ordered the bowl of chili loaded... As for the chili; is this a joke? This is what Cincy is known for? I mean wow! Nasty, repugnant, bland, liqui-funk-number16... I make a better chili and I do not make chili... This chili was watery, virtually flavorless, the portion small; the best part was the cheese and sour cream which was the only thing that made my meal even remotely edible... I had to order additional sour cream and steal cheese from my friend to choke down all this nastiness! Seriously this may sound funny but there is no humor here! I will not be going back unless its for a cup of Dr pepper with my friends or coworkers while we work in this fair city... I came here with a few friends last weekend before a football game for dinner (was not too busy, just moderately) and after a few minutes, a waitress seated us in the back corner. I don't know if we just came on a bad day, but no one came to see us for literally 15 minutes, not even for drinks. After giving them too much patience, I got up and had to hunt down a waitress myself to ask for our order to be taken. She briefly apologized and another waitress came 5 minutes later. I understand we were in a corner, but the waitress had known we were there since she seated us. Of course the food was fine as always.. and when the waitress did wait on us, she was great... but we spent an extra 30 minutes there than we anticipated and had to rush to the game. IF I come back again and have a better experience, I'll update my review.. but I was pretty disappointed in the service here. Very unique taste! At a recent conference in the downtown area, I was told I had to visit a Skyline for the 'sweet' chili. I was plesently suprised by the cinnamon taste without the usual sweetness associated with the spice. It did have a bit of a kick but not so much to knock you out nor leave much of an aftertaste trail. This caused me to want to take another bite. The lack of beans is also a huge plus since origial chili recipes do not contain them. The first visit, I ordered the conies (chili cheese dogs). A bit small and the dog was your average store bought packaged sausage. I mainly came for the chili so I did not much mind. I feel it could be better with a better hog dog. The next visit, I got the 3 way (spaghetti, chili and cheese). It was a bit different but very satisfying in both taste and serving size for the price. I recommend everyone try Skyline at least one time but do not expect a Texas heat style chili. They do supply hot sauce if you wish to kick it up. It is a different taste and may not be to everyone's liking but as for me, I gotta have it!!! As a side note, on my first visit, the staff had just locked the doors for the evening minutes before I walked up. After watching me look at the store hours on the door and beginning to leave, the manager invited me in for a 'quick' bite or take out. The staff was VERY friendly even as I (the last customer) did take some time to order and then savor my meal. But I greatly dislike sweet chili over-stuffed with beans. The mention of cinnamon and chocolate in the chili raised those feelings of dread that come from over sweet chili. If you study up on chili you will learn that a true chili is a "meat only dish". When we received our bowl of chili I was caught off guard by the liquidy-ness of it. And actually spilled some. The chili is almost a purée. With a small texture stemming from the meat. To someone exclusively used to a thick chunky bean filled chili. They're going to be somewhat off-put. But I was actually impressed by the lack of beans. I'm dealing with a real chili here. So I took my taste. Still dreading a rush of over-powering sweetness. To my surprise that was as far from the taste my pallet received. Instead I was presented with subtle blend of spices far from the Texas & ancho flavors. And much more akin to the flavors found in north African cuisine (morocco, ethiopean, etc). The chili was quite good. We were all pleasantly surprised. I give skyline 3 stars. Because it's basically a hot dog joint with a good chili. But I was really left wanting several more Moroccan dishes - not a hot dog! If you go in with the expectations of a traditional American bean chili. You might be disappointed. If you go in expecting a more ethnic flavor hidden behind some coney dogs. One word: CHEESE. Everything that came out of the kitchen was loaded with cheddar cheese. The Cheese Cony was cheap and good, but small and nothing out of the ordinary. This location is the largest Skyline that I know of. They are great with prompt, speedy service so you are not wasting time during lunch hour. Some days it gets crowded but usually tables turn over pretty fast so worth waiting a min or two. If you go earlier in lunch hour you can definitely bring larger group in for dining. read more

If you're expecting southwestern style chili mosey on back to El Paso because this is more of a spaghetti dish with a chili-esque meat sauce that's a bit sweet. By far the best Chili this Cali Girl has ever eaten!!!! The Greek salad was amazing one of the best I have ever had and the Chili 5 with max was to die for!!! My husband got the hotdog and chili and baked potato and was in heaven! The hot sauce was so good and spicy I actually bought one to bring back home. The beer were $3.50 and our entire meal was $29! This place is AWESOME. I can't stress it enough. My fiance and I were driving across country from SD, CA to Washington, DC and stopped in Cincinnati to explore the city a little for a day. We heard "Cincy Chili" was the way to go if you wanted to be a local for a day and so we did. We heard the two places to go to were Goldstar and Skyline, but decided to go with the latter because it was closer to our location and I am glad we did. The menu was vast. It had various options and a lot of cheese to eat too. We had chili by itself sans cheese and the other toppings it came with, but we were 100% satisfied with our meal. It was a good portion. The thing that made Skyline stand out from any restaurant on our drive across country was the customer service we received. Our waitress defined everything you would expect from a waitress who worked at a 5-star food establishment plus more. She was awesome! I wish I remembered her name. The manager came over to our table to ask us how we were doing twice during our stay and was very genuine. They really stood out. We gave them a $10 tip and it was a $10 bill! read more

I love this place! I had never even heard of Skyline Chili until I visited Cincy for a wedding and the rehearsal dinner was at Skyline. They closed the entire restaurant off for the rehearsal dinner which was a huge plus since the place isn't that big to begin with. They had a decent choice of wine and beer as well as sodas. The entire menu was available to us so I had the 5 way and the coney dog. The 5 way was really good and I probably could have eaten another one but I wanted to try the ever famous coney dog. The coney dog was a little on the small side; however, it was very tasty and who cares how small it is when ordinarly it's only $1.29. Our waitress was fantastic and she knew how to treat first timers. She not only kept asking me if I wanted another beer, she also refilled our sodas and kept bringing the food promptly. She also told us that the Skyline at Great American Ballpark is absurdly expensive and hinted that their food isn't as good either. I am actually sorry that I didn't order more food b/c I really liked what I had. The waitress then proceeds to tell me that their are a few locations in Florida. What?! I live in Florida and there are two locations within 20 minutes of where I live. The flavors are different than anything I've had before, but they blended well. My co-worker and I split different things and the total bill was around $10. It's always Skyline time! When I want to grab a quick, affordable lunch and catch up with my brother - we hit up this Skyline on 4th street. It's gigantic, always crowded but ALWAYS quick with service. I would say Skyline is typically a quick-service restaurant but this location seems...somehow...the speediest. The servers are always on their A-game. Crackers and drinks appear almost instantaneously, followed by your favorite way to indulge in Skyline Chili. Yum! read more

Don't go here expecting what you normally think of as chili; go here expecting spaghetti smothered in a chili-like concoction made with hints of cinnamon and cocoa, topped with a massive mound of finely shredded cheddar cheese. Also, they bring each diner a bowl of oyster crackers as an appetizer, so if you show up late, I think it's a faux pas to start eating from someone else's bowl. There's only one vegetarian thing on the menu (a bean burrito) but they do get credit for having that, considering it's a chili place in Cincinnati (as opposed to a more veggie-oriented city). This is a super busy location! I have started coming here recently, as my co-worker has introduced me to their BLT wrap! I'm not really a chili fan, and the wrap is a must try! When they say that Cincy chili isn't always enjoyable to out of towners, I didn't know what to expect. This restaurant in particular seemed very hospitable and when they heard it was our first time, they even gave us some small samples of the famed three way. I can't say that I loved this chili, but it also wasn't the worst thing ever. I can't complain about the price at all and coupled with our waitress being so peppy and welcoming, I still enjoyed my experience. Just to reiterate though...
