We decided to venture to Skyline Kitchen and Vine because they had outdoor seating, and we're still at the point where we are not quite comfortable eating indoors due to covid. We went a little early on a Saturday (around 4pm) and there was plenty of open patio seats. It looks like they can accommodate a variety of party sizes, including larger ones so if you're looking for a restaurant to go with a bigger group, this would be a great option. The menu had a lot of interesting options, and I was having such a hard time deciding I ended up ordering a few different options, where were perfect for sharing. I thought all of these were very good and would order any one of them again Vegan brussel sprouts (yay for veggie options!) Sweet potato tots Crispy artichoke hearts Caprese salad We also tried a few of their cocktails, which I found to be fun to drink! I really enjoyed having one with my meal. The tables were spaced out and the staff was following covid precautions, but I found that when people actually sat down at them the seats ended up being within six feet of each other. We started off with the Crab Cakes, my Fiancé enjoyed them so much we made a second order. For my entree I had chicken raviolis. The sauce was delicious and creamy. My Fiancé ordered the Scallops and Risotto, the scallops were cooked to perfection. The Risotto was absolutely amazing! Vegetables were seasoned very well and not over or under cooked. We got there without a reservation since we were visiting on New Years Eve, around 5 pm and they took us in! The kitchen was a little busy and loud, as you can see it from your table, but not too loud where you can't hear people talk. Appetizers were great- Mac and cheese (5/5), beet salad (5/5), bruschetta (2/5 it's served cold and did not find it special) Any mistakes or unfulfilled preferences on our order were corrected in record time!! We were shopping at Costco and ran across some gift cards for this place. We always enjoy trying new restaurants, these gift cards just make it all the more fun lol. It was about 7 PM and I called to find out if they need reservations. The answering machine message told us to make reservations on yelp, so I did just that. It was about 7 PM and I made a 7:45 PM reservation. When we arrived, it was pretty obvious that we didn't need a reservation, but nice that we had that option. A waiter greeted us and told us just to sit where we wanted. Our waitress/bartender came up and greeted us friendly and got us started with some drinks. The menu is one page and pretty easy to read. A lot of unique items like the duck tacos and duck nachos. This place has a Strange style, wife said it feels Like a warehouse. Basically filled with patio furniture, metal tables and metal chairs mixed with wood tables and wood chairs. Looking at the menu, I figured we'd be spending about $50 each and for that price I just wish it was more comfortable. They do have a great wine selection, however the wines are also extremely overpriced. 2 to 4 x retail is exorbitant for us. One thing the waitress did tell us... We could purchase wine to take home at retail prices. The menu price was to drink it at the restaurant. Silveroak is our favorite winery, so I asked how much the retail price was for the Napa silver oak ($175) and the waitress told us that was one of the bottles the owner would not sell for retail. What we ordered: Cadillac margarita, rocks and salt Raspberry lemonade with Tito's vodka Chorizo stuffed mushrooms Duck tacos Steamed clams Roasted Brussel sprouts with bacon The drinks were awesome. The food came out fairly quickly. I do believe the chorizo stuffed mushrooms for the star of the show. I had to return the steamed clams as they tasted as if pure lemon juice. They were super sour. Also the broth was creamy, so this would be more of a clams and bordelaise cream rather than steamed. Also, the brussels sprouts with bacon had a couple of crumbles of bacon. But really no bacon to be found. Overly charred, and really not much flavor after that. My wife had the aïoli sauce from the duck tacos, and we use that to dip the brussels sprouts in. The chef came out and apologize for the sour in the clans. He said he did get to taste it and that he liked extra lemony on his seafood, but he saw where I was coming from. I do understand that this is a major issue with chefs cooking food the way they like it instead of a standard for everyone to enjoy. My wife did enjoy the duck tacos. Overall, great service, great cocktails, mediocre food that is overpriced, not cooked as described. Uncomfortable seating, warehouse style. Just not a place for us. read more

Both Skyline and Sierra St. Kitchen are favorites of mine. I have never had a bad meal at either. The Skyline location is a little out of the way but much more spacious and comfortable. I think it's the perfect place for dates, anniversaries, and other special occasions. The service is generally great, but it can get quite busy and delays have to be expected. The only negative thing I can say is that I never fail to overspend when I eat here. The food is just too good, and while the individual plates are reasonably priced, I can't help ordering half the menu. read more

I do think it was overall a product of the larger group I was with, but there was not a ton of room to move around in, simply due to it being a smaller room. the windows did not provide a sense of openness either, as it was dark outside, so we were unable to see anyway. This place is really yummy! I really enjoyed my blackberry bramble cocktail and my partner really enjoyed the Truckee brewing company Hefeweizen. We shared some Ahi Nachos which were very good! I really enjoyed my shrimp scampi- I just wish they included more shrimp. They put about 3 shrimp cut up in it but the flavors were on point. My partner said the Kobe beef burger was excellent. We came here for the first time on New Year's Eve. They have a holiday menu. The flavor was okay. I was expecting much better quality for the price (We paid twice the price for everything). In the end, we were charged a service fee of 20% of our food. I'm not sure if this is the same everyday, or it's a New Year's Eve special treatment. Anyways, it was such a ripoff! Atmosphere wise, the wine bar looks like a sports bar. It kinda ruined the sophistication you would imagine for a wine bar. I chose the huckleberry hooch cocktail. Bad choice! We had a last minute company event and we needed to accommodate a party of 12. This was one of the few places that was available. We chose it because it was a bit more casual and better suited for an after work party. The server was good, very attentive and handled the larger group with ease. The choice of beer on tap were a bit eclectic, but very good. My favorite brew of the evening was Elvis Juice, a grapefruit IPA. I would say 70% of what came out of the kitchen was excellent, in particular the apps. The bacon wrapped dates and steamed clams were first class flavor. The Brussels need another noted besides salty/hot, but we're decent. As for the entrees, this is where things turned into pretty mediocre pub food. My biggest gripe was the market priced scallops (pictured below) that basically came from kitchen already partially chewed. I suppose I could count that as a feature, but frankly it was just disappointing. The flavor wasn't bad, but the portions were not generous by any fair measure. Had the scallops been larger and the plate of risotto been a bit heartier (really just well sauced rice), I maybe could have forgiven this. Overall it's not a place to avoid, just was not as memorable as we were all hoping. read more

We've been going to this place since it opened, it's in our neighborhood and it's convenient. We've had good meals and experiences and not so good. Tonight was not so good. My husband usually loves their lamb but tonight the portion was noticeably smaller. It was cooked well but the price for portion size was ridiculous. My filet wasn't cooked to order (M) it was rare. They took it away to get it to the temperature that was ordered. When they brought it back with the same sides they were luke warm, the steak looked medium so I persevered. Honestly it was the chewiest filet I've ever had. I've never ordered a steak there before and won't do it again. We complained and were offered dessert but it doesn't replace a meal. Although the food was good it was way overpriced for the atmosphere. Also our waitress did not know the menu. Upon ordering the scallops I asked her what the difference was between the $18/36 listed under dinner section. She said the $18 was 4 scallops and the $36 was 8. I assumed small scallops. Wrong! I ordered the 4 thinking it was the smaller dish. I eat very little and would have ordered 2 scallops which would have been perfect at $18. When asked about the $36 charge, she said she was new, only there 2-days and made a mistake. She should have adjusted or discounted the bill right then knowing her mistake. I wound up bringing 2-scallops home. My thought to new staff...don't guess, when asked and don't know, go check. I should have asked for the manager but did not want to get her in trouble as her service was good. We did not expect 2-meals, an appetizer, 1 beer and 1 drink for $128 plus tip for a meal that did not last 1-hr. Also for that price you should not charge 4% for credit card use. Went here on a Monday evening around 8pm for a quick dinner/anniversary celebration. The place looks nice from the outside but the inside lacks ambience. We were hungry so we started looking at the menu to realize they actually don't have any vegetarian entrees. So, we ordered bunch of small plates that we could fine vegetarian friendly. We ordered: Beet salad - was really good - must order! Brussel sprouts - without the bacon and maybe that's why it was lacking flavor. Meh, will not order again. Veggie burger - the burger alone was $17 and does not come with fries. For $17, I feel that it should come with fries or a side salad. Anyways, we ended up ordering a side of sweet potato fries to go with it. The burger itself was good but a little dry and could have used some more sauce. Sweet potato fries - good. I mean, you cannot mess these up. The server brought us one scoop of house vanilla ice cream with a candle since my husband told her it was our anniversary so that was a nice gesture. It tasted like normal ice cream and not gelato so not sure what it was...anyway, I am glad we finally tried this place out and I think I'll give it a second try sometime in summer. read more

One star for my drink. The rest is negative stars. I read the reviews and looked at the menu and thought why not? So we went ion Valentine's Day but they only had a small menu with a few items. They had Steak and some pasta or salmon dishes. The appetizers did not sound good at all. After we ordered we saw the automatic 20% gratuity charged. I felt rushed through our meal. Every time the waiter came by which was not often he kept asking if we needed anything but then would leave immediately lol. My salmon was ok but it tasted a little off. Mashed potatoes were lumpy and cold. For the price I was really disappointed. I would have rather went for pizza. Oh, also said there was a discount for cash. Well when we got the bill they added to the price because we paid with card. The menu price was the discount. Desert was even worse. Waiter asked my husband if he wanted ala mode and he said yes. Came here for lunch with my coworkers for a holiday celebration. 6 of us ended up ordering the black bean burger, the only vegetarian entree. We all left satisfied but not wowed by the black bean burger. One person remarked that the caramelized onions were the best part, another noted that the black bean patty clearly didn't have the coloring to suggest black beans were used. Service was attentive. Food was a touch slow, probably because they'd never contended with so many black bean burgers. My boss ordered the sliders and she seemed happy! This might be one of Reno's best-kept secrets. We went here for our 5th anniversary and were pleasantly surprised. We were greeted by Steve, who had that famous New York nonchalant attitude with a bold sense of humor. He's definitely a rememberable character. Paired with Erica, who has a sweet and mellow personality, they make a great team. The food was amazing. I had the lamb chop with risotto and veggies, and my wife had the chicken Parmesan with spicy meat sauce. Hands down, the best chicken Parmesan in Reno and the lamb chops were so delicious I could have eaten 10 of them. The chef/ kitchen did their dam thing WOW amazing. Let down. The building looked cute when I drove up, and it seemed promising inside. After that it went downhill. The fold up menu was hard to read & the set up wasn't easy. We were part way through our order before realizing you could order 4 small plates at a discount. I went for the Reno vegan chef challenge and I was so disappointed. The macaroni was bland. It needed pepper & maybe some mustard. Menu said it had gremolata on top (which doesn't belong on Mac to start) but this tasted more like someone mixed up the cilantro and oregano that night. Awful, and so out of place in bland Mac. If you like cilantro that's fine, but I'm one of those genetic anomalies that thing cilantro taste like soap. The queso was horrible. Flat out bad. They used a low quality vegan soy chorizo that tasted like liquid smoke. Worse than that it felt like it had been broiled under an open gas flame, and the whole dish tasted like gas, or some other gross burning flavor. It was inedible. My friend tasted it and agreed it was terrible. Also, I asked if I had to have soy chorizo in it. The lady said yes it was mixed in. She asked if I was allergic, and I said, "no I just don't prefer it." The dish then came out with a big heaping pile of soy on top. So gross. I ordered fries, which didn't get put in so they came long after my other food. I didn't finish either dish, when the waitress asked if I wanted a box I said no. She could tell I didn't like it, but she didn't ask why, or how they could fix it. I mentioned upon sitting that we wanted to try the coconut rice. After finishing our food we waited for a bit, she came over and asked if we needed anything else. We mentioned the rice. It took another 10-15 minutes to get our dessert. It came out looking nothing like it does online, and tasted weird. There was cinnamon in it, which was off putting. Cinnamon and bright fresh mango don't match. I didn't finish that either. Overall our bill was over $90.00. I was charged $3.00 for soda water, which is probably my biggest pet peeve. I find it extra frustrating when they don't tell you ahead of time it will be $3.00. My portion of the order was $40.00 for 4 bites of macaroni, 3 bites of burnt queso, 2.5 bites of bad rice pudding, and a $3.00 soda water. The entire place smelled like fish, kind of like a bad sushi place. My friend ordered one drink and never got asked about more. Her food was mediocre at best and she didn't finish either. I'm let down at what I paid for what I got, and more let down no one attempted to fix it. This was the low stop on the vegan chef challenge. read more

Great place! We love the tapas style menus and shared everything. We tried the filet tips and gnocchi, steamed clams, bruschetta, mac & cheese, kobe sliders and sweet potato tots. Made a reservation for Valentine's day. A few days later I was told I would have to provide a credit card number to hold the reservation. I refused but was confirmed. Looking at the menu online looked good. When arriving the tables had a printed menu on the table with only a few high end items. A waiter came to our table before ordering drinks and thought we had ordered 2 drinks he had, wrong table. We ordered 2 apps and 2 entree dinners. The drinks came and then our dinner. When asked did we need anything else, I said where is our 2 Apps. He looked around and found them. So dinner with apps. My entree was scallops. 4 small scallops on a bed of mashed potatoes. Scallops were not seared and cold inside. Wife had salmon and skin was not crispy at all. Bottom of menu a note that all checks would include a 20% gratuity. Never saw that unless a party of 8 or more. For $200. my wife and I left hungry. Will never come back to this so called restaurant. You would think on Valentine's day the ambience would be be amazing. No such thing, just day to day decor. read more
