I was going to a friend's birthday party nearby and was actually going to stop at the nearby Rite Aid for some beer. However, being unfamiliar with the area, I missed the turn and ended up going down a couple blocks. I saw the sign for Skyview Wines and Spirits and went in to grab some wine instead. The store reminds me of the bigger wine stores outside of NYC. It's definitely a lot bigger than most of the wine/liquor stores in the city. There was a wine tasting when I went in. The sales people were nice and wasn't pushy about the wine they were showing. The prices are pretty good and there is a nice selection. Check out was fast 3 registers open, which could be due to it being a friday night. read more

I have tried calling the store several times during their regular store hours to inquire about the status of my order, and I receive a recorded message that "a mailbox has not been set up for this user. Please call back at another time". Something is not right here. If I can't get a response in the next few days, I will contact my credit card company and deny payment. read more

What was once a thriving neighborhood mainstay has, sadly, devolved into a total train wreck. The business was sold in the summer. There are always growing pains with new ownership, but the store is pathetic. Less than half of the past inventory, no prices on anything, hours are random. You have to feel bad for the hardworking staff trying to keep this dump afloat. I've given up and will make the longer trip to Corkmaster, they have everything and are professional and knowledgable. I ordered from their website (skeyviewwine.com). The website and my order confirmation said I was ordering a 2009 vintage, but what arrived at my doorstep was a 2011 vintage. I've emailed the retailer and will change the rating if things can be properly resolved. Update: Raising my initial 1-star rating to 3-stars. The retailer responded immediately to my e-mail and apologized for their mistake (said their online system wasn't updated to the correct vintage year for the particular wine I had ordered). They offered to send me a return UPS label and to refund my money. I decided to keep the wine I received. read more

Now, a little more educated, I went in again and was unimpressed with the selection, both kosher and regular. I am unhappy with Skyview Wines. I ordered 2 bottles of scotch on June 19th. Today is July 9th, 2019. Skyview wines sent me an email on the 19th stating that the order had a mailing label and then I received an email stating that the order was shipped, Monitoring FedEx web site, there continued to be not additional updates by July 7. I contacted FedEx and was told that Skyview Wines had not completed the order. I sent a copy of the FedEx notification ass well as 2 other email inquiries to Skyview Wines and I have not received any reply. I have asked for a refund , but have heard nothing. At this time, I would not recommend Skyview Wines and would recommend that you consider an alternate supplier for you this type pf product. read more

I have lived in Riverdale all my life and have watched the demographic population change a lot. Change is good and as far as getting more diverse, I'm all for it. However, sometimes it feels that I'm getting phased out of my own neighborhood in some respects. I guess the biggest thorn in my side came up at a local pool party not too long ago. A few of us were sitting around talking about how the neighborhood has changed over the years and most of this was positive conversation with one exception, which is Skyview Liquors. One of the guys mentioned that he noticed that all of the sales and most of the sales prices there are related to the Jewish customer base. That if you are Jewish, the sales revolve around your holiday, never say Christmas or Easter (or any other non Jewish holiday). He went on to say that he's even heard the owner give more of a discount on top of the sale price while the guy behind him got no discount. It just seems that if you are Jewish, you have a sale price available to you year round whether you're from the neighborhood or not and the local loyal customers get no discounts unless you bring in those little coupons (if you remember to bring them) or unless you buy a case of stuff. Also, the non Jewish side of the store constantly runs out of stuff all the time and it's months sometimes before they get it back in, if they get it back in. I'm not an expert on Jewish wine, but when you see a lot of cases being delivered every week and seemingly nothing replaced on "your" side of the store, it doesn't take a genius to figure out what side of the store it's on. The Jewish side is always flush. Don't get me wrong, please, I think it's excellent that there are stores that do specialize, but with this store, they appear to neglect a large portion of their loyal customers. My Dad shopped here long before I could and so did my Grand Dad, that's 3 generations of loyalty. I don't think a little give back is too much to ask. I asked one of the girls behind the counter one day and she just kind of shrugged and said she was sure that wasn't the case, but she looked really embarrassed and I felt bad for asking, but I mean come on, does the guy not care about his non-Jewish customers? HORRIBLE!!!! They ran out of stock on an order and forgot to deliver. Did NOT notify anyone until we called to check the status. It was unprofessional. Our company would have used their services for future purchases, but they would not consider compensating for the loss and miscommunication. Sales Manager lady was impolite and didn't need to insert her opinion on our suggestion for a solution. Good luck with customer retention. You will need it Skyview! read more

Although this establishment is not deserving of any stars, one is forced to give it a rating. I needed to purchase quality liquor for a casino night event and needed assistance. I stand in front of the cashier register as I noticed the female working behind it is the only one at the store. I was waiting to get some sort of help. She didn't even acknowledge me there...no hello or how may I help you--absolutely nothing. Therefore, I walk myself to the liquor section to see their selection and noticed they didn't have much of a selection. Terrible customer service. So awkward with the silent cashier. They need to train their employees as it appears making that sale didn't matter. I took my business elsewhere. Will never return. read more

This place seems perfectly fine (friendly staff) if you already know that they carry what you want. We stepped in here for the first time because we were next door at the atrocious A&P for the first time, too. This wine shop has average prices and a half-decent selection, but is lacking in a lot of obvious, everyday-wine type-of-ways. While we like fine (expensive) wines as much as the next person for certain occasions, we also like tasty standards at reasonable prices, as well. For example, Yellow Tail, one of Australia's best exports: They carry just chardonnay and none of the rest of the line, including zero reds. And they only stock the super-sweet moscato of the popular Barefoot brand. No pinot grigio or chardonnay to be found. But if you're shopping for Bat Mitzvah or Passover wines, this is your spot. As such, between this wine shop and the A&P (where old people go to spend three times the norm on potato chips before they die), we shan't be returning to this shopping plaza. read more

An excellent store to purchase kosher for passover wines and spirits.I have been purchasing my kosher for passover at Skyview for the past two years. We order wine for our family of ten adults for our passover vacation of eight days. Our 2019 order was for a total of 81 bottles of kosher for passover wines and spirits.There selection is probably the best of all on line kosher wine sites. Their web site is very user friendly , allowing you to select by wine type, country, producer as well as other choices. If you select a product type a brief description about the type is displayed at the top of the wine listings. There prices for kosher for passover wines and spirits are among the best and is you purchase near passover, they have a passover wine sale with great discounts. I have never been to their store and my only contact other than on line ordering was by phone . My question was answered promptly which helped me to complete my order. I have the order shipped and have had no problems.I am very thankful that Skyview exists because they make purchasing kosher for passover wines and spirits a reasonable task. read more

There's a guy who works there who wears his hair back in a low pony tail (not sure of his name) -- he's amazing. Every recommendation he makes is spot on, and he doesn't force you to spend a lot... Interesting that my review in July was filtered. I thought this was a posting board for people to understand the local area services, not something that is filtered when the review is critical & honest! I haven't checked in with Yelp for this post since then, but, a friend last night told me he went in to purchase wine like he does on an ongoing basis & when he asked why he didn't get a discount, the girl behind the counter told him that she wasn't allowed to give a discount without a coupon. I told him to check my review & post one of his own & he let me know that Yelp had "filtered"/silenced my review. BTW, after my posting in July, the store pulled the little coupons issued by the A&P store, in a seemingly retaliatory move, they apparently just put them back. But, here we go again, the discounts for the Kosher side of the store are deep & their sales go on for many months & they don't need a discount coupon to present, sale or no sale, you can routinely hear either the owner or the manager tell the cashier to give a 20% discount. If you can't provide fair service across the community, then maybe you shouldn't service this community, it just isn't fair! But, brother/sister Skyview, Riverdale neighbors, all is not lost, there is a perfectly good liquor store on Mosholou that wants your business & from what I hear, another opening soon near the laundry mat.
