Came here on Sunday afternoon on the way back home after camping. Got immediately sat at the bar. The 2 rounds of cocktails Ben made us were amazing, fresh ingredients, and house infused liquors. Get the mac and cheese, its the best with pulled pork on top and their specially bbq sauce, wow if I had had room for seconds I would have gotten more! We came here for dinner, paid over $100 for our food to be cold and dry. The servers were incredible and the atmosphere was as well. We ordered 2 sampler platters in which the pulled pork was not pulled, it was in chunks and dry, the brisket was dry and the ribs were the only thing decently warm. For great tasting BBQ this was definitely the place to eat. I'm a huge BBQ coniseur (being from the south) and the ambiance was fun and very authentic. The wait staff were very attentive and on top of their game. And you've got to try the "Frickles", not only fun to say but delicious! I have been searching for a great Rueben since moving to Oregon almost 6 years ago. Funny, I had to climb up to the base of Mt Hood to find it! House smoked pastrami piled on high, with excellent sauerkraut, swiss and toasted rye. It is amazing! the smoked pastrami kills it. I've also had all of their smoked meats and they all rock. Probably the best restaurant in the Hoodland area. Great bbq and sides (mac and cheese is a specialty) served by friendly, accommodating wait staff in quirky eclectic dining spaces inside, plus ample shaded outdoor tables. The first room inside features a giant fireplace, tin ceilings, bar, stage and lots of vintage decor. The back room boasts cathedral ceilings, live plants and even more vintage decorations. Both the food and the beer & wine lists are first rate. Live music on weekends. The bbq sauces are great but I especially recommend the mystery sauce! read more

I am very upset with the I guess the assistant manager last night 7/13/23 my daughter took my granddaughter and I to dinner there we waited a hour to get a table it was very busy so no big deal are table came up so we went to get seated we had a new waitress that was just starting she was very nice and did everything right, she took our orders Pulled Pork which we had a Mac and cheese boat with bacon with Xtra bacon , a pulled pork and cheddar with Xtra pulled pork, also a pulled pork with cheddar and swiss with Xtra pork and our appetizers were 2 cheesy fries. Which were excellent! We also ordered the same thing to go but with out the Xtra meats on them as to we like to take a meal home for next day, so about 25 minutes goes buy and our food came out took one bit and noticed how hard the pork was and I even checked the Xtra meals we ordered to go and the pork was dried out on them to , the bacon bolat was perfect , so we called the waitress over a told her that the pork is very dried out can the please redo the pork she said no problem and took it back to kitchen then here come some guy from back asked what the problem was so we explained and he asked what we had ordered we told hime Mac and cheese with Xtra pulled pork and there were 4 orders of it because we had the Togo ones to he could not understand our order we explained it I don't know maybe 3 to 4 times he said don't say Xtra pulled pork we said it was with extra pork I don't understand why he didn't understand any he took the order back to kitchen sent the waitress up to tell us that they were working on it , in the mean time my granddaughter ate her dinner about 15 minutes later the guy comes out and said they worked it out and they are doing them so we are watching people come eat and leave as we are still waiting for ours we sat there about 45 minutes and still nothing we decided by this time we needed to start driving back home it was getting late so we asked for the bill for the food we did get they gave us a bill for $111.00 which was for the food we never got so I took the bill up to were the guy and main waitress were and said that we needed to go and we will pay for the food we received he took the bill and said rudely no you don't have to pay for the food just don't come back ! I said we've been here for 3 hrs and your telling me not to come back he said we've cooked your food for u twice and now you don't want it I said that it was not our fault that the pork was over cooked so why you telling me not to come back he was very angry as to me also so I walked out very embarrassed as to all the other customers are starting at us , my daughter was still there she tried to call the cashier over but she said I'm going on break and walked away . So disrespectful! We ask if the owner is her they said no she not . This was the unacceptable for us to be treated this way my daughter spends a lot of money there every weekend , and has never been treated this way the food has always been the best, with good service I was talking about you guys to everyone I knew saying how good and relaxing the food and people are but I have a bad outlook now I just hope that you can put the employees in check and how to customers better and to talk to who ever is cooking food to not over zap the pork. !!!! read more

We are vacationing in Welches and have not had the best of luck with food and service in town.... until now! I wish we found this place on our first night rather than on our last but better late than never. Last year we discovered Skyway Bar and Grill when hiking in the Mt Hood area, and we were back again and had to stop in. If you like a fun atmosphere, great BBQ and mac and cheese, and usually live music on the weekends, then you will want to stop in too. As a starter, I highly recommend the Frickles, and if you have a large group you should get multiple orders. They are Skyway's version of Southern style fried pickle chips, and they are served with aioli sauce for dipping. The batter alone on the pickles is worth the price of admission, giving them a very nice crisp flavor that isn't too heavy and complements the pickle perfectly. The aioli is also quite yummy, and this is an app that everyone in my family loves. Skyway is known for their mac and cheese, particularly since you can soup it up pretty much anyway you want. The base mac and cheese is southern style baked with a delicious cheese blend and breadcrumbs on top. You can get this in either a small or large size. However, if you want to add "Hook Ups" to your mac, you must get the large, and then you can customize to your heart's content. Varieties of meats, cheeses, veggies, and sauces can be added. I highly recommend either the brisket or the pulled pork. Both are fabulous in the mac, making it quite a filling meal. In addition to getting a protein-ized souped up mac and cheese, I like to get additional protein as well since they make it so well. They call themselves "The Original Northwest BBQ", and it is one of the better BBQ options I have found in the Pacific NW. Both the pulled pork and brisket are delicious by themselves, and the pork ribs have a unique take that is also delicious. If you are just feeling meat (or maybe want more meat and only a small mac and cheese that isn't souped up), they offer a sampler platter that includes pork, brisket, and ribs, with cole slaw and baked beans (and their baked beans are delicious!!). I had room for dessert, and the lemon buttermilk pie had caught my eye from the beginning. It had a really nice smooth flavor that was rich and creamy with just enough lemon. The crust was also quite good, and it was a stellar piece of pie to finish off the evening. Other people at the table ordered the chocolate cake, and it was delicious as well. The atmosphere is quite fun, crossing a bar with a country restaurant. There is also outdoor seating when the weather is nice, and when we were last at Skyway, there was a music festival going on. The first time we went, Tim Snyder, an amazing violinist, was performing. He was not only amazing to watch but really cool in person, too, and my son started playing violin because of him. The prices are reasonable given the huge portion sizes, and the quality of the food itself is amazing. The service was steady and consistent, even with the restaurant getting quite busy. Skyway can definitely accommodate large groups, but it is probably best to go a little bit early on a weekend evening to beat the main rush, as they always seem to be busy. Skyway is required eating for us whenever we are on that side of Mt Hood, and it is a favorite place of all my kids. If you are in the area and want some delicious food that is a bit atypical for the Pacific NW, you should definitely stop by Skyway. read more

Tried them out last night as we were told how good they were. Was a disappointment. My wife got the brisket it had a good smoky flavor but was half fat. She got 2 slices only, not much of a meal. I got the combo it had enough meat. The ribs were not quite cooked to a jerky. They give you a small plastic cup 3/4 filled of watery BB sauce, like it was gold! If you want more you pay extra. I paid extra $3 to get the Mac and cheese it was ok not as good as the bragging although. Famous dave's does not up charge and is much better. read more

We normally LOVE this place but the menu changes are awful. And did they lose their chef because things are bad now?! They now include gratuity in the price, but still ask for a tip on the receipt. My husband didn't realize the tip was already included and tipped another 15%. Anyone who doesn't read the small print in the menu is going to get taken. If you auto add gratuity - take the tip spot off of the receipt or have your staff remind patrons that it's included. Be transparent. Better yet - be a normal restaurant and DON'T force people to tip. It feels gross. We shared a pastrami sandwich, shared a mac with bacon cubes, had small salads and sodas. 45.00 BEFORE tip. No thank you! The pastrami is 1/2 the size of the old (and amazing) Reuben for much more money (18.00!) and the Mac was watery, seriously soupy and had a weird flavor like they used too much blue cheese maybe? Not sure why they've changed their business model but when you have to go to the bar to order for yourself and go back to the bar for drink refills with not a staff in sight to ask about your meal - auto gratuity is a terrible idea. read more

I don't get why or how this place rates 4 stars. When we arrived, the parking lot was full, which we thought was a good sign. The hostess who greeted us was pleasant and extremely nice. We were sat immediately and the server came by our table within a few minutes with waters and menus. A few minutes later she came by to see if we wanted drinks, which we didn't, but we gave her our order while she was there since we were starving. We ordered a "larger" salad to split, not the Caesar, but the healthy greens or something like that. We also ordered the bbq'd chicken breast and my wife ordered the bbq'd tofu sandwich since she's a vegetarian. Minutes later our salad came out. It was literally some mixed greens and waffle croutons. No tomato, cucumber, onion...nothing! And it was far from a large salad and the dressing was out of a store bought bottle, but it came with the $8 price tag for our benefit. After this is when the fun started. Salad done and taken from the table, we figured our food would be delivered within 10-15 minutes tops. It was 45 minutes later and our plates of stuff were delivered. BBQ'd chicken - BBQ'd chicken at a BBQ restaurant should be a breast of chicken with ribs attached and smoked in a smoker. What I received was a boneless, skinless breast not grilled or smoked and topped with the most tasteless BBQ sauce I've ever had. I'm guessing Fred Meyer had a discontinued batch on the shelf they were selling as a buy one, get one. It was horrible. Also, since everything is a la carte, I ordered the pickled beets with it. Again, another Fred Meyer purchase. BBQ'd Tofu - Now the tofu was cooked really good and was crunchy, but the fact that is was bathed in the same bargain basement bbq sauce and mayonnaise was what ruined it. She also got an order of fries and they were so oily that we couldn't eat them. From the reviews I've read in the past, this place apparently used to be a great place. What happened? I'm guessing the chef that's raved about on the menu no longer works there and that whoever is doing the cooking is not a true BBQ chef. If he/she is, start googling recipes, because what you're doing isn't cutting it. On our way home we started felling sick to our stomachs, but now it's time to let the digestion continue and hope this gut bomb passes without incident. Always stop on our way up to or from the mountain. Their mac and cheese is on point. I'm not even a mac and cheese fan and I order it every time I go. It's delicious with a crispy crust, mixture of cheeses and just a hint of pepper jack so yummy. I'm a fan of the ribs, barbecue sauce comes on the side, but you don't even need it. Although that's delicious too. We tried the fried pickles on this trip, deliciousness! I highly recommend them and the dipping sauce is yumtastic. It's a bit pricey, my husband and I shared a half rack of ribs, side of Mac & cheese, side of coleslaw. We also had two kids meals and an order of fried pickles. The bill came to $50.50. Basically three meals and an appetizer. The .50 was for the side of Mayo I requested for my kids pork sandwiches that came dry. They have a stage, seating, and bar. Outside is kinda like a backyard eatery - very homey. Service is good. Plenty of parking. Happy Hour: I know they do. See on my pic ;p - Gluttony Expedition - I wanted to try the sampler dish - $16. You can eat every meat they have with a coleslaw or beans. But I wasn't that hungry ;( Beer: Tap. It was good but I forgot to write down the name ;( Pulled pork : 1/2 lbs pulled pork comes with a slice of cheap white bread. The pork was sort of cold and a bit spicy without sauce. I chose the Chipotle sauce, which was bland. $8 doesn't come with any side. All the sides are a la carte like the fancy steak house. But here's only casual BBQ place by the Mt. Hood.... Meh. Not what I expected for a barbecue joint. Walking through the door there's nothing but funky decor and some blues music in the background. Outside has even more of that vibe with lots to take in. Not to mention very comfy. You cannot let your dog even on the back patio though so keep that in mind. They've got the drink menu that's loaded with homemade vodka infusions including a bloody mary with ginger vodka. That's exactly what I ordered. And they do a good pour as well. Now my favorite. The ginger just gives it a refreshing bite to an otherwise tomato take over. Also, unexpectedly they had barbecued tofu on the menu. First off, we figured when we saw barbecue it would be pretty meat focused. We mentioned this to ourselves on the way in and hoped we could find some salmon (that does barbecue too). We double lucked out in the meat categories. We ended up getting some caesar salads, dressing on the side. Good thing too because their dressing is as thick as mayonnaise and so is the flavor. Salmon was done just perfect. We opted for just a tofu slider. They did it up right and proper. They had cut the tofu in such a way that it was mimicking BBQ faux meat just fine. I myself don't like sweet barbecue but my partner enjoyed it quite well. Hubby and I stopped here at the recommendation of friends; we were on our way home from the mountain and were really hungry. We've driven by this place so many times, but this was our first time to stop. We were promptly greeted and given a choice of a small table or small booth, and we chose the booth. My friends had raved about the mac and cheese, so I ordered that and Hubby got the burger with BBQ sauce on the side. Both were delicious; it took awhile for them to get to us considering that the place wasn't crowded, which was surprising. I liked that our server asked Hubby how he'd like his burger to be done; not many places ask you that. While we waited, we had fun looking around at the decor. I really liked the music (not live). Good country sounds and at a reasonable level, which I really appreciated. My mad and cheese was heavenly; I could only eat about a third of it (I also had a couple of bites of hubby's burger, which was excellent). Everything is ala cart, so if you get a burger or anything else, expect to pay extra for fries or a salad or... Next time we're up the mountain, we'll definitely be stopping here again. This place is great--and by far the best eats available on the Portland side of Mt. Hood (and far better than anything in Government Camp). I first stopped by after a Mt. Hood climb a few years ago. They've got a good selection of taps, some really decent barbecue (their specialty--vegetarians, they even smoke tofu if you're into that), and top notch Mac n' Cheese. It's worth going for the barbecue alone. These folks know how to smoke some meat. As a self-professed barbecue snob from North Carolina, I can say this is as good or better than most anything you can find in the Pacific Northwest--and it pretty much spanks the mediocre bottoms of most barbecue joints in the Portland area. The ambiance is qUiRKy cozy, with awesome velvet paintings, a weird alpine fresco above the fireplace (which has a warm fire blazing in the winter months), and a huge patio out back for summer dining. If you ever have the opportunity to dine in the back room, it's utterly twisted, with an odd chandelier collection, and odd knickknacks galore. As a dining colleague put it, "This is the only place I've been to where a statue of the Buddha is flanked by a rocket and a naked woman." Oh yes, and they also have Nuclear wings! They come in an order of six and they are HOTTER THAN HELL. I hallucinated and met my spirit animal the first time I tried them. If you know the el jefe at Fire on the Mountain, these are significantly hotter. Finally, the staff are super welcoming and inviting. When I order a large salad and I'm expected to pay $8.50 for that, then I would like to get my money's worth on the plate. What we got was a handful of lettuce leaves on a large plate, garnished with crumbles from an old, dry waffle drowned in a cheap house vinaigrette and sprinkled with some cheese. I've been coming to the Skyway since they opened. This is easily one of my favorite restaurants. I drive up from Portland just to eat here, which should say something about the quality of the food and service. Tracie, the owner, is kindhearted and always makes a point to say hello and treats us like family. The staff is incredible and despite being very busy most of the time, they are kind and always provide excellent service. Do NOT miss out on their garlic truffle cheesy fries or their Mac and cheese. It is essentially a Spanish coffee (151, baileys, sugar on rim, coffee and whip cream.) It is served in a tall glass, almost like a wine glass. It's worth the $9 and you should only have one. The chef is from Texas so there is a lot of BBQ on the menu. I had the pulled brisket which was great. I went with the "mystery BBQ sauce" and it was okay. It was a vinger based sauce which isn't my favorite. They have many others to choose from though. My friend went with the Mac n' Cheese which was tasty. One of the things I loved about the menu was you could add a whole slew of extras on to whatever you ordered. My friend added bacon cubes and pulled brisket to his Mac n' cheese. He then had a heart attack. Really great food, drinks and the decor in this place is unique. It definitely screams Oregon. I can't say enough positive about this little slice of heaven. I stopped by with my partner on the way down the hill from an afternoon visit to Mt. Hood. On the way up, it caught our eye; a funky little artsy looking place, we knew it would be our stop as we headed down the hill. As we arrived the parking lot was full. Typically, this would be a good sign, however during a COVID lock down, it can be a cause for alarm. Fortunately our friends at Skyway were not only up on Social Distancing Practices, they did so in a non-intrusive manner where it all seemed our space was safe. Dining was outdoors and spacing was close to 20 feet from table to table on our visit. Upon entry, the place took on a cool campground sort of vibe...not Hollywood or Disney, but an authentic campground feeling- in the best sort of way possible. Our wait was close to 30 minutes for our table. Guests were mindful of their personal space as well as staying masked. My partner was having back issues. Tracy was kind enough to provide him with a chair for him to sit on during our wait. A super generous gesture giving the place was pretty busy. We were seated outdoors with nice heaters to keep us toasy warm. Emily was our waitress. She was not only efficient, but she was helpful in helping us with food choices. The food...barbecue done right. I tried the fried grits for my starter. It was a nice cripsy slice of grits served swimming in a creamy cheese sauce. The sauce was so yummy I considered licking my plate. Fortunately I held back on that. For my entree, I selected the ribs and fried tofu. The ribs were fall off the bone tender and juicy with just the right amount of smokiness one desires from barbecue. The tofu was firm and flavorful, no complaints. My partner ordered the brisket with a side of the lumpy mashed and beans. The brisket was prepared to old school standards and was a true celebration of the taste buds, potatoes and beans were beyond satisfactory. Yay the Skyway is back open for dine in!!!! Now all you people that don't want to follow the pandemic reopening guidelines might have a hissy about having to wear masks away from your table, but too bad, deal, the food is as always fantastic, the staff is attentive, friendly, knowledgeable and entertaining. The management has done a tremendous job setting everything up for the reopening and like all businesses going through their first pandemic are adjusting as they go. You might notice some changes on the menu, food and costs, etc. but remember that with this global pandemic supplies have been affected and prices have increased.
