Stopped in Corning to tour the Museum of Glass and we were hungry for BBQ, so we checked Yelp. Found the Pulteney Street location was closed, but saw a sign on the door for the Market Street location, just five minutes away. It was Sunday afternoon, but there was plenty of on-street parking. We were intrigued because a sign indicated there were gluten-free options. Sadly, that didn't mean they had gluten-free rolls for the sandwiches. :( No matter, we ordered the BBQ Prime rib sandwich (mine with a roll, my wife's without) with sides of baked beans, fries, Cole slaw and potato salad. We were told all the sides were made in-house. All the food was excellent, and the Cole slaw and baked beans especially were amazing. Besides the roll, everything we got was gluten-free! Certainly one of the top three rib platters I have ever had. This place earns a very rare 5 full stars from me. The ribs were meaty and oh so tender. The baked beans are also something that cannot be missed. The Texas bbq sauce is just a touch sweet...just the right amount. I have three minor complaints. First there are no public restrooms on site. Second they place country music radio, and three it is located two hundred miles from my house. I really want to eat here a lot...maybe we will come home this way just do I can experience more Slammin Jammin.... wow. read more

Tried this place on a whim after we left Corning Museum of Glass before driving 2 1/2 hour ride home back to Buffalo. I refuse to go to chain places I'm all about the locals. It was delicious! The lady at the counter was so sweet and helpful and made sure we were satisfied. The feeling of the restaurant had this great homey feel. I got the pulled pork with mac salad and corn. We did not have the greatest experience here. The good part was we got a table right away. Our first two drink choices they didn't have. Cabernet and a dirty martini. our waitress was wonderful, however, she disappeared and never came back after taking our order. We had 2 other wait staff drop off our food and check, but no one came to check on us or ask how everything was. Food came in a timely fashion, but was not great. The portion sizes were small for the price. The Texas Toast was so burnt it was not edible. The kids grilled cheese had no cheese in it, my daughter had toast for dinner. She ate it because she was starving and no one checked on us. My other daughter ordered the kids tenders and there were two tiny frozen pieces. On a mini vacay and this was not a pleasant experience. The atmosphere is not cozy but rather dingy. I'd skip this place and get Wegmans or Mooney's!! read more

During my last visit this past week, I was surprised to find that Effin Texas Bar & Grill had been replaced by a new restaurant- Slammin' Jammin' Southern Smoked BBQ. I was confused at first because while consulting with Yelp on my way to Corning, I noticed amazing reviews for Slammin' Jammin' on Pultney Street. I immediately told my friend to meet me there for lunch. I was then informed that the restaurant was on Market Street. 'But Yelp never lies, so how could that be?' I had wondered. Turns out the owners opened the restaurant in a second location, and I'm glad they did so! Break down of my experience: Location: Market Street is the epicenter of Corning. Easily accessible and convenient to tourists and locals. Atmosphere: Warm, southern ambiance. If you dig country music, this restaurant is perfect for you. Interior: Spacious with seating on two floors. We sat upstairs, which was a lot cooler. There's also a second level to the second floor where a bar is located. Food (the real reason why you're reading this): I ordered the half-rack of ribs with a side of fries. Let's begin with fries- thin cut, crispy, crunchy, and perfectly delicious. A lot of restaurants fail to get the texture of their fries right, but the fries here were on point. Well-seasoned and slightly on the salty side, but I really enjoyed them nonetheless. Now on to the ribs! Ribs were tender and flavorful. The meat came off the bones fairly easily. My only "negative" comment is that they were slightly burnt. Ultimately, I was full and satisfied at the end of my meal. My friend, who wasn't quite as hungry as I was, ordered a burger, which came with lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese. I was so preoccupied with warfing down my own meal that I did not get a chance to take a bite of the burger, but my friend said it was delicious so we will take his word for it! Service: Friendly and efficiently. No complaints here. Overall: I had an enjoyable experience. The price is very reasonable for the amount of food you get. I eat here every little bit and the food is always great. It's hard to pick a favorite, I love the brisket, the sides are all good, the veggies are always perfect with just right amount of seasoning. Even the appetizers are a nice variety. The price is fair for BBQ but it is the best in the area if you love Texas style BBQ. I bring clients from all around the world here and have yet to have one not like the food. Definitely recommend them and if you have a large group they are plenty capable to handle all sizes. We were here for take out about a week ago and I wish it wasn't covid because the atmosphere here seemed really cool. It smelled heavenly and I was super excited to take the food back and eat. Unfortunately when I got back to my hotel, 20 minutes away - half of my order was wrong. The sides were wrong and the sides that weren't wrong were forgotten altogether. It sucks that it was a $30 mistake and food that didn't get eaten. Stopped in last Friday after visiting Corning Glass. Very impressive BBQ joint with a very friendly staff, made us travelers feel right at home. They seem to do a lot of take-out, small seating area with a roadhouse feel. Nothing pretensious here, just great food. 1/2 rack of ribs filled me up, lots of meat, not much fat and just a little sauce (if you don't want sauce, tell 'em when you order. Came in with my fiancé and son while in Corning. Had really high hopes after seeing 4 stars. HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED. The service was beyond slow, we ordered the hush puppies fries mushrooms and pickles. Those were just okay. For dinner we order a bleu burger with French fries the children's pork slider with Mac salad and the brisket dinner with baked beans and coleslaw. All of the sides were okay except the Mac salad. That was grotesque. The burger came well done even tho we ordered medium. The brisket was turning bad. It had discoloration and the shine that meat gets when it's in its way out. The pulled pork has no flavor and the cornbread it's dry and flavorless as well. Once we were served our food (about 45 mins after ordering it) no one came to check on us for another 45 mins. If I could give this place no stars I would. Will never be back. read more

Small strip mall place with in walking distance of the Corning museum. It is Father's Day and as a special surprise my meal was 50% off. The brisket was awesome!!!! The pulled pork was a little dry but good too. The sides were very good. Mac salad awesome. The cole slaw was good. I prefer it not be ground up like it was. The sauces (sweet and spicy) were good and on the table. Speaking of the table .it is I dire need of a screw driver. It was very wobbly. Meals 12-18 dollars. Sandwiches 6-10. So, I guess my expectations were high because I heard the owner was from Texas and I am a Texan so I was very excited to go try. I work in the area. So I went and unfortunately I was disappointed. Before I decided to write the review I tried it once more. Overall I am not a fan, the brisket seemed to be lacking flavor. My guess is the restaurant may be using a propane fired cooker and cooking over the 275 mark. Ribs were much the same. Sides were all good. I was also disappointed that the BBQ came already sauced? I really don't know what to make of this place. My wife and I have eaten here several times over the years. Their smoked wings are addicting, really enjoy their smoked salmon on fridays. I convinced two other couples to join us there for dinner and drinks for the holidays as they wished to go elsewhere. Of course it was an awful experience! ALL of our dinners were absolutely horrible! All of our meals were unedable. Very dried and burned. I felt bad and embarrassed. Shouldn't have been served. The waitress and Manager were very kind and tried to make it right, even removing all dinners from our bill. We really appreciated how understanding THEY were, and not making us feel embarrassed or uncomfortable. I Realize that when smoking food it's not uncommon to "overcook". However, we were very pleased with the ribs, cole slaw and smoked baked beans. The chopped rib sand which had a little bit of gristle in it though. The mixed vegetables had a tang to them that did not appeal to me. Folks that came in after did not wait for a table, which was smart because the service was so slow, the tables weren't turning over. We went to the Market Street outpost on GlassFest Saturday. Surprisingly, not terribly crowded. Ended up in the attic. Started out at the bar and moved to a table. We were immediately befriended by ladies working up there and they made our evening. We both agreed that they "made" the visit. We had pulled pork and ribs dinners. While they looked really good, both were under-flavored and almost dried out. They weren't bad, but they were definitely not at their best. The sides were sub-par, and suspiciously similar to something off the restaurant supply truck. They accidentally gave me a side of collards. I am from South Carolina, so I know collards. We decided to try this place out during a quick trip to Corning. I have to say I wasn't as excited as some of the other reviewers. I was disappointed to find that Mac n cheese wasn't one of the sides but that's not really a big deal. We got the chopped brisket and the cook was really good, very tender. The best BBQ in town! The brisket, ribs and pulled pork are all smokey, moist and delicious. The sliced brisket has just the right amount of fat and flavor. The dry rub on the ribs really offers that classic BBQ taste, and all their meats are good enough to eat as is, without having to slather it in sauce, which is the trademark of a great Pit-master. The sauces at Slammin are great as well, molasses based, again all boasting that classic balanced sweet/tangy bbq flavor. I especially like the Chipotle BBQ sauce, which has a nice kick but blends tangy, spicy, smokey and sweet very nicely. My other favorite menu item (after the meats) is their homemade bacon wrapped cheese stuffed jalapeño poppers, which are the best I've ever had, and I mean that sincerely. Unlike most places, which all seem to serve the standard Costco brand poppers, Slammin BBQ's are homemade and in a word 'slammin'. My top pics for sides are the macaroni salad, the baked beans, which you can easily make a meal of all on their own, and the potato salad, which combines the classic russet potatoes with mayo, diced red onions, celery, celery seed and paprika. Equally as good as the food is the service. Every time I've eaten here the kitchen has been speedy and all the servers are all really very nice, welcoming and helpful, especially Marissa who rocks: she knows the menu inside out and always makes very thoughtful recommendations. So if you're in the mood for BBQ and trying to decide which spot in town to choose, I strongly recommend you try Slammin BBQ, particularly if it's Thursday or Friday night when they feature an amazing smoked pork chop and smoked salmon filet, respectively. read more

They were out of corn on the cob but had corn off the cob. It was good and likely last minute but a suggestion would be to spice it up with some bbq seasoning.
