I can't believe Slater's only has three stars! It doesn't say much for the cranky pants YELPers who gave it poor reviews based on, well, I'm not really sure but I suspect Slater's has been the victim of food trolls. First, I would like to address the pizza. I have not had as good a pizza since I was in Naples, and I don't mean Florida. I'm talking Italy. Returning to America, Slater's pizza is the equal to Frank Pepe's in New Haven--- now a chain restaurant. Slater's crust is delightful. The wood-fired oven gives the pizza the perfect char. The pepperoni is first class as are all the ingredients. Now, the Caesar salad. It's perfect. It's not traditional but it's creamy and delicious. Plenty of croutons and thin slices of Parmesan. The only better Caesar is the one I make. Here's an admission! I'm not overly fond of BBQ. I don't like food you need to feel like you need to see your dentist for a cleaning or food you have to fight with--- like lobsters or ribs. The wings! OMG...mouth-watering, moist, succulent and very flavorful. Not crispy or dry. The ribs! Flavorful, meaty. Perfectly done. The meat falls off the bone! The brisket! On a slider, topped with Slater's BBQ sauce, it becomes a memorable feast. I want to end with a comment about the service. I have eaten at Slater's three times in the last months. With no apologies, I can't find anything to complain about! The wait staff was prompt, courteous and friendly-- in a west of Boston kind of way. I have to wonder about someone who complains about a waitress wearing a tank top in a pizza and BBQ restaurant. Next, maybe you want to complain about paper napkins, plastic knives, or forks? What Slater's is not is a Mistral or a Smith and Wollensky. If that's what you're looking for go back to Newton, Cambridge or Boston. I'm giving Slater's five stars because, in their class, they deserve five stars. read more

This is a casual low key type of place. They have live music on the weekends and open mic night on Thursdays. Great beer list or the beer lover and a few wines to choose from. There is a fireplace in the middle of the open floor concept, wish it was on and I would have stayed there all day.... There is a tv by the bar section where they have a couple high top tables and you over look the wood fire grill area. Fun to watch the pizza dough get tossed in the air. Our waitress was very friendly and extremely helpful with helping us make a decision, it all sounded so good. We highly recommend the pulled BBQ nachos. These can be a meal all by them self. But oh so good... Melt in your mouth pork with just the right amount of charred ends. We then had the buffalo pizza. Again it was amazing. The crust is nice and thin the way I like it. I personally next time will ask to have my crust well done, I like just a tad more grill burn. But that's just my taste. The is a must stop at and a do again on my list. I have read the reviews, give and take. What I see Slaters as is a restaurant that serves what many people really love, good pizza and good BBQ. Together like chicken and waffles! At first it sounds like an odd combination but it's perfect. I had both, fist starting with the Pulled Pork Nachos, they were great, the serving size was big and enough for two hungry guys and two women watching what they eat. There was no fat on the pulled pork and it was done perfect. I received it with just the right amount of BBQ sauce on it and could have added more if I wanted to. I had the pulled pork dinner and it was great, a healthy amount of meat, I would have liked more cold slaw but what I had was fine. Real baked beans would have been better but they were the sides. The pizza was great, real Italian pizza, none of the Greek pizza pretending to be Italian, thank god, and they have a honest to god wood oven they make the pizza in. If that wasn't good enough they have awesome gluten free pizza too! To make it even better this place is affordable to take the whole family any time! Can you believe that? Crazy huh? What a novel idea, great food, good prices, real people. I can put up with plastic forks if that's what it takes not to break my wallet. I will be going back and trying everything on the menu. This is an honest, stand up guy, kind of restaurant. No facades, no wanna be's, just real. Funny when you can spend $200.00 on dinner for two and it's terrible and leave hungry then spend $60.00 here on dinner for 4 and are blown away and have to be rolled out of the restaurant because you ate so much! HEAD'S UP! Star rating is an average! 5's on the pizza... 2's on the Q! I've tried this place numerous times... from a couple years back when it was Great Brook, and a few times since it became known as Slater's. Great location, and the building lends itself to a casual atmosphere, takeout kind of place - rustic interior, paper plate service. The interior hasn't changed much. Eclectic collection of tables & chairs, but they just don't work together. Looks like "this is all we could buy so that's what we got." Place is only half filled with tables... several more could fit in, but then again, why? Definitely needs a personality. Scale down the serving area and sell something. Oh wait. You tried that already. It didn't "work," either. SO much potential, but..... forget the ambience. Let's get down to the food. After all... that's what REALLY counts, isn't it? BBQ is barely average. I lived down South for about 20 years, so I'm a bit of a BBQ snob. Not a huge fan of pulled pork... it screams "my meat needs sauce to mask it." Slaters is no different. I found the beef brisket to be dry and missing that long, slow cooked, smoky goodness. While the sandwiches have always been nicely stuffed, I must say I find them to be overpriced for what you get... a bag of so-so chips. As for their brick oven pizza, NOW we're talking! Best pizza I've had outside of East Boston and the North End! Reasonably priced, perfect crust, wonderful smattering of sauce, very fresh and flavorful toppings. "Burn your mouth" piping hot out of the oven. Totally worth the wait. Just think of Slaters as a pizza joint. A good one. read more

I've stopped twice for their BBQ sampler ($8.95) which has 2 ribs, 2 wings, a slider (choice of pulled pork, brisket or shredded chicken). I've tried the pork and brisket sliders so far. Everything on the plate is terrific. It also includes a small cole slaw, barbeque sauce, and some mixed pickles and peppers. As it happened I haven't been hungry enough to get something bigger yet, but I can't go by without stopping now. They have a good rep for pizza too, but I haven't tried that yet. Probably won't for a long time either, since I can't pull myself away from the BBQ menu. The staff is friendly in a wiseass kind of way. A good experience all around. read more

We stopped at Slaters today for the first time. We truly enjoyed the pulled pork nachos and a pizza. The fresh lemonade was also very good. The problem we encountered were the flies. There were a lot of flies crawling around the tables, and we had to cover the food with napkins so they couldn't land on our pizza. We couldn't finish the pizza because it was a pain shooing the flies away. Maybe they will put some fly traps in the kitchen to keep them away from the dining area. If this problem is attended to, I would rate them 5 stars. read more

So went here after a break from it. Prob wont be back soon. My friend and I sat way from the pizza oven, it was so hot. We were swooped upon by our waitress within 20 seconds for drinks - she named everything they had. Fine. We had diet cokes. Two second later are we ready? ready? ready? No - not yet....Finally we get pizza to split, she got a takeout for her husband. We had two bites, she comes back and says need a box? Want to wrap it up? Could we take a breath, we may have 1 more piece....nope, brings over the box like she couldnt wait to get rid of us. There were only 2 other people in there, so not like she was turning the table over. The Pizza - not completely cooked thru, very soggy - we got sausage and onion - red onion, kinda weird, the whole thing was very stringy. Did I mention the flies? Giving 1 star because I am required to select something. Worst service over the phone. Called for delivery. She said they only deliver to a certain distance and certain amount of pies. Something about quotas... I asked how many pies, and what distance. She said they were busy and had customers in line. Told me to call back later...then hung up. We ordered the pulled pork nachos and beef brisket sandwich. The nachos were store bought, the pork was a bit dry for my taste. The BBQ sauce was overly applewood smoky. The beef brisket was dry, and got the same smoky sauce. Hoping the pizza is better than the BBQ. read more

For those of you who know the area, the road that Slater's is on hosts some of the worst non-highway traffic, and that's exactly how I stumbled into Slater's. I'm surprised to read that many people were greeted by rude staff. The man who was seating people/taking orders was extremely friendly, and the two women cooking pizzas seemed nice as well. I'll be honest, it's definitely odd having a menu that's primarily pizza/bbq, but I decided to go with a meat lovers pizza. One thing to note are the prices. This place is definitely not cheap by any means, but it beat sitting in traffic. My pizza was very good. Absolutely no complaints. Although pricey, it seemed a little larger than most large pizzas. I think my only two complaints are the prices, and the lack of any sort of BBQ pizza (that I saw, although I could be wrong). I think some sort of pulled pork or brisket pizza could have been an interesting combination. read more

Delicious BBQ, better than average pizza, genuine staff, AWFUL service and very casual atmosphere. The service is truly poor here. We waited for over an hour for our two young children to get their small plain cheese pizza. They were practically eating the crayons on the table it had been so long. The restaurant was not crowded. This has happened every time we have been in for table service. That said, the food is good which is what keeps us going for take out. Although that has been equally slow at times. I want to like this place. I really do. But after going twice, I won't go again. Both times going the service, and the wait in particular, was ridiculous. During our second trip there It took nearly 30 minutes just to order and another 45 for food to arrive. Know what we ordered? Pizza. Insult to injury was being there with two young kids. The four-year-old was in tears by the time dinner arrived. One could argue that this trip's slowness was due to it being a very large party, however, they were warned a group of 17 were on their way hours in advance. The first trip there it was just my family--four of us--and one other party in the whole restaurant. Not 30 minutes to order or 45 minutes after to get food, but still painfully slow. Food was OK. The other thing I can't stand about this place is their lack of ventilation. Wood oven pizza gets a thumbs up, but leaving with hair and a jacket that reeked of smoke was just gross. read more

We had Slater's supply food for a Grad party last week. The pulled pork is to die for! The best we have ever had. We then hired Slaters to cater a professional party at our place the following week. The food was absolutely delicious! Paula the catering manager was a huge help with choosing the different dishes. She managed the delivery, the set up, the service, and the clean up. Everything went without a hitch. Our server was fantastic, she even shucked and steamed the corn that one of our guest's brought. At the end of the night everything was cleaned up and not a thing left in my sink. Everyone raved about the wings, the pulled pork slider's and the brisket. Yummy!!! Both events were a great success! Wether its a special event or just ordering some barbeque for friends at your next gathering, I would highly recommend Slaters! read more

What's upsetting to me is that I wrote a review saying how displeased I was with the service here. I got an email from the owner, asking me to try the restaurant again ON HIM. The pizza was great. The very limited service at tables not so great. There was only one waitress that appeared to be working and the place was very busy, open mic night. Our waitress Sandi was very nice and prompt but she was clearly overwhelmed with all the other tables. Hire more waitstaff if you are going to have sit down services. Our waitress Dawn was extremely rude and condescending and overall made us feel very unwelcome which led to an awkward dinner. The pulled pork at this place is AMAZING. Used to be a garden-decor-shop w/ a sandwich counter / BBQ-catering on the side. NOW it is all about the food, which is a good move in my book. My friends and I make it a priority to come hear for lunch on our annual apple-picking-trek (we don't live close, unfortunately). Last fall, I made the oh-so-good decision to try the new pulled pork pizza - soooooo good. I came here excited to grab some pizzas and hang on the patio but apparently we got the "last pizzas of the night" even though we ordered watching pizzas get served inside to people who came in after us and left paid they're tab and left before we had even gotten ours. We sat on the patio because I had my dog with me. We were completely forgotten about. Our pizza took a FULL HOUR after we talked to our server and asked about how much longer it would take considering how cold it had gotten outside since the sun had set. We were here at 5:30 and didn't get our pizzas until a full hour later even after our check was dropped she NEVER came back until a solid 25-35 minutes after we had gotten it to run our cards. Absolutely the worst service I have gotten in my life and I am a server I would have been much happier if she came out and said in sorry I forgot than just straight forgetting about us. My favorites include the spicy chicken wings,495 pizza and pulled pork sandwich meal that comes with corn bread, baked beans and coleslaw. Love the service, the owner Bruce is such a nice guy! Stumbled onto this spot while vineyarding out this way. Store front didn`t really catch our attention, the GPS pointed it out. Friends ordered pizzas and were not disappointed. I had the turkey reuben panini (turkey breast, swiss cheese and coleslaw) which was delicious. We ordered 3 large pizzas and some salads. The pizzas were amazing!!! We had the Margaritas, black and blue as well as the Tuscan. The black and blue had steak on ot that literally dissolves in your mouth. All were amazing! My only complaint is that the service is painfully slow and the seating is very strange. The chairs and tables are mismatched but not in a cute way and not very comfortable either. read more

Terrible experience on Friday night. Our party of 4 (2 adults, 2 children 10 and 14) arrived at 7:15pm. We were seated right away. The restaurant was busy but there was no wait. After 25 minutes we were finally able to get the attention of a waitress. We ordered one large sampler, one small cheese pizza, a childs portion of mac & cheese and a large rustica pizza and drinks at about 7:40pm. Our drinks arrived right away. Sadly we did not see our waitress or our food until 8:15 and only the mac&cheese and Rustica pizza were served The other 2 item's were delivered nearly 15 minutes later!! We loved the food but hated the experience. We will think twice before returning. read more
