If you're looking for the perfect place to stay for a beach vacation in Southwest Michigan, Sleepy Hollow is it. We've stayed in Cottage #7 for several summers, and it has become one of our family's favorite traditions. The private beach is what truly sets this property apart. You simply can't beat the beach access--it's peaceful, beautiful, and never feels overcrowded. We spend our days soaking up the sun, swimming, and ending evenings with bonfires on the beach using the complimentary firewood provided by the property. Our kids absolutely love everything there is to do. Between the pool, tennis courts, pickleball, ping pong, basketball, open grassy areas for wiffle ball and games, and the complimentary bikes and beach cruisers, they're entertained from morning until sunset. One of our favorite parts is that they always seem to meet other kids staying on the property, and before long they're all outside riding bikes, playing games, and making summer memories together. The gated property also gives us peace of mind, making it feel incredibly safe for families. Cottage #7 is the perfect setup for us. It has a bedroom with two twin beds for the kids, a comfortable master bedroom for us, and a den with a pull-out sofa that's perfect when family or friends decide to stay the night. Having a grill and a washer and dryer makes longer stays so much easier. The kitchen has an eclectic collection of dishes and cups, but honestly, that's part of the charm. There's something nostalgic and fun about the mismatched, cottage-style feel that makes it feel like a true home away from home. The grounds are absolutely pristine and beautifully maintained, making every walk around the property enjoyable. Every year we're sad when it's time to leave, and before we're even packed up, we're already looking forward to coming back next summer. Sleepy Hollow has become much more than just a vacation rental--it's where our family makes some of our favorite summer memories. And yes some cottages are more updated than others, but it's the property and beach access you're getting that's priceless. Nothing else like this year was my 58th b day and I have been coming here for 58 yrs on and off. Stayed in 36a, which has a great screened in porch and plenty of room for me, my kids and my grandkids. 37a is a bit secluded on the grounds,,which we really liked . Like every year we had a great time. Maintenance crew was exceptional as all the staff Is. Working with Dale is always a pleasure. My grandkids can hardly sleep the nite b4 we come and it's always sad to leave. The best place ever!!!!!!!!!!! read more

The resort is great, unit 37 is not. Sleepy Hollow is very family friendly and I would give it 5 stars. They have a huge pool with kiddy area, nice playground, beautiful beach, crafts and activities for the kids. The one star rating is for unit 37. We were very disappointed with this condo. It needs a major cleaning, repairs, painting and new furniture. I highly recommend Sleepy Hollow Resort but do not recommend renting unit 37. read more

Wonderful place to stay right on the beach. Gated community with activities for kids outdoor pool, splash wade pool, shuffleboard, tennis courts and so much more. Right on lake Michigan with beautiful views and private beach access. Great staff and very clean cottages of different sizes. We stayed in stonebridge b. There is no beach. We never received notice that the beach is gone due to the high lake levels. You have to drive to the public beaches to enjoy the beach. Grounds are still kept up and the pool was nice, but our whole group was extremely disappointed in the lack of communication. Especially when you're paying a premium to stay here. If you are looking for a resort/house with a private beach, look elsewhere. read more

Wonderful week in June of this year for a huge family gathering. The kids crafts are wonderful everyday. The beach has never looked better and love all the chairs and fire pits down there. My family went to Sleepy Hollow in the 1970's and 1980's, and we have such fond memories. It was a magical place then. So, when I had kids, I brought them back there in 2015-16, and it was really nice. Such memories. So we returned in July-2017 we were really excited to spend just a few days there again. However, when we arrived and went down to the beach, only then did we learn that there was no beach!! The Lake Michigan water level had risen so high, that there was only a tiny sliver of beach. Ok, I understand water levels rise, but we were never advised when we booked the room, that during the Summer of 2017, there was no longer any beach at Sleepy Hollow....none! So, I told the front desk that it would've been nice to know when we booked, that there was NO beach this year at Sleepy Hollow. At $600+ per night, I thought that was a reasonable request. They told me I needed to speak with 'Scott' the manager. Well, it's now been more than 2 weeks and 3-4 messages to Scott, and he still hasn't responded. No returned phone calls from Scott, the manager. Our trip to Sleep Hollow was, unfortunately, spent mostly at the public beach in town, so me and my kids were not able to enjoy the magical wonder of the Sleepy Hollow environment. Sadly, we won't be back. Had Scott at least returned one of my several messages, and I was able to talk with him, perhaps things would be different. So, if you're looking for a great place along the beach in Michigan, avoid Sleepy Hollow, because there is no beach. None. You can find a place at a much more reasonable rate on the lake, that actually has a beach!! read more

I love it here! We came a couple years ago and decided to bring our parents back to see this special place this year. Sadly there is no beach this year bc of Lake Michigan water levels, but the other amenities make up for it in my mind. The pool is so clean and heated . We brought our kids scooters and bikes and they loved just cruising around the sidewalks. Love the unique architecture. Love having a playground on site. Love the landscaping. There are so many activities for our family to enjoy, a definite plus with two highly energetic little boys. read more

Looking for a lousy resort experience, which treats guests like they're criminal-like intruders? Then Sleepy Hollow in South Haven, MI is the place for you. We drove up to the gated grounds and were "greeted" by Marvin in Security, who could not possibly be less happy to see us. Our first impression was to be insulted by Marvin, who asked if we could read his hat: SECURITY. We explained we were just there to see the grounds and get some information. After snapping a few pix (five minutes) we stopped into the main office, chatted with the woman behind the desk and bought some Tshirts (I used to vacation there as a kid, and had fond memories). After we left the office (15 minutes total), we heard our car alarm going off, and arrived at our vehicle to find Marvin under the hood. After asking if we could help him, he angrily barked that he was trying to disable our vehicle for "screwing him over" by staying too long. He said we were there 45 minutes - even though the desk clerk backed up our version. I was shocked that Marvin would break into our car, and intended to cause us trouble and inconvenience. I told him he was in the HOSPITALITY industry, and was taking his job a little too seriously. At that point, he got in my face and threatened me, by telling me I had no idea who I was dealing with or what he was capable of. This....is SECURITY? At a RESORT?? I went to the office to complain and call the cops. A Michigan State Trooper showed up and was ready to file a report for us to prosecute Marvin. I told the officer that I would not file a report if the Resort agreed to fire Marvin that day. The Manager, Scott Dangremond, was called and agreed to dismiss Marvin. I documented my experience before I left, and left a copy for the owner to read. The owner, Richard, called the next day and informed me that The Board needed to do a review, but Marvin was temporarily suspended. I told him I understood, and 5 days later Richard called back to inform me he was merely suspended, but not fired. FOR BREAKING INTO A (potential) CUSTOMER'S VEHICLE. Unbelievable that they would not fulfill their end of their promise after this horrible experience. I'm trying to let other potential customers know that Security at Sleepy Hollow Resort will leave you feeling rather insecure. Beware! read more

Just spent a great week with family and weather was great (July 1-8,2018). This is a gated community system and ALL the grounds are available for use. I did have 2 terrible run ins with the owner of unit 5 who thinks the grass in front of his unit is private. He yelled at me for walking across the corner of the grass, taking a short cut. Turns out the owners of the units can only claim the building as private and NOT the common yard. Seems he has no knowledge of everyone else freedom on the grounds. read more

The resort was nice enough but my security deposit was returned minus beverage charges which we did not make. I called the office to complain - no answer and no returned call in response to my message. I also send an email explaining that we had made no purchases, which also was ignored. It wasn't a huge amount of money, but the idea that they would attach charges and then ignore a customer's dispute is enough to sour me on the resort. Customer service is not their strong suit. We will never return to an otherwise nice resort. read more

Ok. We have gone to SH for the last 5 to 6 years and always had an awesome time. It's a great place. Only reason I am writing this review is to refute another Yelper (Connie B). I have a very hard time to believe her story. Melvin (hope i spelled correct) who works at SH has always been welcoming and kind. He goes out of his way to greet/wave every time we see him. We checked into our unit immediately noticing the gritty floor . . . the sand had not been cleaned . . . pots, pans and dishes were also dirty and had to be washed by us before using. One of the reasons we selected sleepy hollow was the wireless broadband availability. Wireless broadband is very spotty. After pointing this out, Scott tried to make a fix . . . unsuccessfully. The wireless broadband comes from two routers in the complex (not your own unit) and is weak in parts of the complex. The grounds are well kept. read more

This was our second time staying at Sleepy Hollow Resort. BEWARE ! We were very disappointed this year and will never stay here again. The grounds and the pool are nice, but that's about it. The water is so high there is no longer a private beach, so you have to drive into town to hang out and swim in the lake. Our cottage was cute and updated, but not clean. There was mold on the shower curtain and food crumbs on the floor throughout. The bedroom lamp was broken, the master bedroom television did not work. The people working in the front office are pleasant enough, but are not knowledgeable or helpful. They hand off any problem you have to the office manager, Scott, but good luck ever seeing or talking to him. He stays hidden in his office and will not return your phone call. Two months after our stay, we finally got our security deposit back after I called and badgered the office about it several times. I have a feeling if I had just forgotten about it, we would not have seen that $250.00 again. South Haven is a lovely little town, but I will find somewhere else to stay next time I visit. Been vacationing at Sleepy Hollow for last twenty four summers and many summers before that as a child. Beautiful beach. Fantastic Swimming Pool. Great accommodations, especially since the renovation. The rates are expensive but worth it. Given what we pay, we really appreciate the security and that there isn't alot of rubber necking traffic or unauthorized use of the pool and beach. Sorry the previous poster had such a bad 15 minutes there. read more
