DISASTER AWAITS! If you order on Monday nights for the special you may never go to Slice again. We ordered on-line at 4:15 PM, were given a pick-up of 5:05 - 5:15 PM, and waited with mask on at Slice til 6 PM to finally get our order. The tenders and fries for the kids - who went off the wall awaiting mealtime - were soggy and cold, likely having been ready at the appropriate time. The special had fresh-from-the oven pizza but the 'PC' wings were dry and practically devoid of sauce. The poor young woman at the counter was under fire. I've been contacted by the owner of SLICE and he acknowledged the poor service that this certain saturday employee demonstrated. Which I appreciate. Maybe he was having a bad day or was overwhelmed in his shift. I don't know. But I do know... It was very early and all I wanted was a great slice from none other then SLICE and was willing negotiate and spend to get it. Anyway the owner offered me 2 free slices for the mistake as has since made adjustments to the counter. I absolutely love this place. I come at least twice a week. The only complaint I have is that this particular visit I went in for my usual purple cow, and bbq chicken or CBR slice. And it was a different guy on register and when I went to go order he cut me off at purple cow slice, said absolutely not and proceeded to give me a cheese slice instead. I love Slice's NY-style pizza. However, getting it is not worth the aggravation. No matter how I order a pie --- by phone or online --- it is NEVER ready when promised. I have sat for an extra half hour waiting for pizza. Today, when I arrived to pick up my pizza I was told it wasn't ready and I would need to wait another 10-15 minutes. After about 10 minutes, a pizza I assumed was mine came out of the oven and was handed to the counter person. She put it aside on top of the oven and returned to something she was doing behind the register. After another 5 minutes she retrieved my pizza and called my name. When I asked her why she had kept me waiting she replied that she on the computer. Obviously, customer service is not a priority at Slice. Slice has lost my business. This is only getting a one star because the salad was the only good part of this meal. I saw an ad on Facebook for a 25$ meal including 1/2 tray of riggies, a large salad and garlic bread. These were by far the worst riggies I have ever tasted. They were extremely dry, the chicken was not good, and it almost tasted like they put velveeta cheese on it. The bread also seemed to be stale. The salad was not large, it only fed 2 and the salad dressing (Italian) was definitely old as it looked like lard and jelly like, not a liquid. Highly discourage others from coming here. read more

I can't believe that Portnoy rated Slice's pizza second best in Utica. I had a slice today and it was not good. The crust was floppy and weak. Maybe the oven wasn't hot enough when the pie was cooked because the dough was flat, no spring. Do they even use yeast in their dough? The sauce was pretty good, tomatoey with a bit of bite to it. Fair amount of cheese. Good pizza has a bit of char to it. This had none. Go to Nina's. They serve a much better product. read more

Just coming through town on business and decided to try Slice by recommendation. I got a small pizza and a small order of Purple Cow Wings, solid! The pizza had caramelized onions and sausage. The crust was good, as well as the toppings, but do note the sausage was more ground crumbles on the pizza, but the caramelized onions were on spot. Their food is amazing -- best pizza in Utica I say. I usually get the lunch special -- 2 plain slices for 5.00. Desserts are good also. My only concern is that the music they play is too loud sometimes esp when the guys get singing along. Normally my go-to choice is Charlie's but I heard good things about Slice, so I wanted to see what the hoopla was all about. Friday evening. I placed my order at 6:15 pm and they told me it would be 45 minutes. (Not complaining. Just giving you a sense of wait times on Friday night.) I showed up around 7 and the place was packed. My friend and I came in when they were busy, the line was at but not quite out the door, and one of the workers overheard me say that it was my first time there, so he gave me a free sample of their signature "Purple Cow" wings. Coming from downstate near the city, I was afraid I wouldn't find any place that sold decent pizza. Slice makes my second favorite pizza in the WORLD. Their pies come out of the oven perfectly cooked each and every time! Sauce to cheese ratio is perfect, crust is crunchy, inside is similar to fresh baked bread. They really have mastered the art of Brooklyn style pizza. Some people have complained that the staff there are rude, but I've never experienced them being rude to someone that wasn't rude to them first. They're simply not "fake nice", they're great people as far as I can tell.
