The wings are absolutely tiny(see pic) and to top it all off my 8 piece wing only had 7 wings. They place the fries half in the wings so they are soggy by the time I went to eat them. 7 tiny wings and a McDonald's fry and drink for 11 dollars. And I was still hungry. I'll start with the good: we received fantastic customer service from Aaron at the counter when we arrived. He was very personable and helpful explaining the menu. Also, the manager we dealt with was very courteous and polite in taking care of the issues we had with our food. And therein lies the problem: the food. My fiancé and I both ordered chicken tender meals and some fried pickles to share. The pickles are battered and fried crinkle cut pickle slices. I thought they were fried fine, the fiancé thought they weren't crispy enough. However, we both agreed they were way too salty and a little greasier than expected. The chicken tenders were much smaller than you'd expect for the price. Bigger chicken and no Texas toast would be much better deal. Also, the chicken was pretty dry. The fries weren't very fresh and were just lukewarm. The fiancé took his back and asked for fresh fries. Again, the manager was polite and brought a completely fresh meal out to him. The manager also checked back later. Final verdict: good customer service, but not good enough for us to overlook food that wasn't very good and was overpriced. read more

With competition like Layne's of College Station, Raising Cane's, and Zaxby's to fight against for my favorite chicken fingers, the battle was going to be bloody. And honestly, they didn't fare well. I didn't hear much hype about this place before, but I always saw it on my way to and from work. Per usual, I gave the place three solid tries. I wouldn't go out of my way for it. People - The model limits interaction with the people but the staff seems nice enough. Not much more to say here. Product - The chicken fingers are good enough. I never had their fries when I thought that they were freshly cooked right before I ordered. The toast has consistently been stale-ish and cold. They do have a wide selection of sauces... however I am more in favor of a restaurant finding one or two things they are REALLY good at and sticking with it... no need for 20 sauces. Take a note from the competition and really perfect one. Place - The place has never been crowded even during a lunch hour which is really nice. The flow and layout is nice as well and they have a fully covered patio if the weather is nice. I didn't notice anything dirty or messy. The whole family loves Slim Chickens. The food is delicious, the wait time is minimal, the staff is friendly, and the restaurant is well kept. I always get the chicken & waffles. Three chicken strips on top of a buttered waffle. It never disappoints. They initially had spare bottles of syrup, but now they will give extra syrup upon request. My wife usually orders a chicken strip plate and upgrades the side to fried mushrooms. They are quite tasty and crispy. It also comes with Texas toast. Our son alternates sharing with both of us. We were looking to get a quick meal after baseball so I ordered online. The options showed 'full menu' and 'available menu' so I wanted to confirm that I could order a family meal since it was under the full menu option. I called. Busy signal. I called again and got the same. I tried again before figuring I'd order and see if I got errors. Everything worked and the estimated ready time was quick. We drove over and parked in the online parking space right in front of the door where the counter was. I tried calling and it was still busy so I waited, figuring they would see my car. I didn't want to go in since I had my young son with me. We waited for 15 minutes before someone walked out (after I called and got busy signals). I confirmed my order name and let her know their phone was busy. She said sorry she thought they were in the middle of making our food and the phone must not be charged. Then she said it would be another 15 minutes, a full half hour after the 'ready time'. This did not make sense to me so I asked about the time they quoted. Her response? Do you still want your order or not. After I confirmed, she went back in and a young man walked out (Jayden). He had our food and apologized. He also checked the phone and apologized again. Unfortunately when we got home, we had burnt fried pickles, cold chicken and lukewarm macaroni. My assumption is that they had made my meal and let it sit. Ordered a Hungry plate with gravy and slim sauce. The tenders were of good size, quiet juicy, with a light and crispy batter. Alone the chicken was average but with the slim sauce (a little goes a long way) it was fairly satisfying. The fries and toast were good, not great, but gravy sure helped. The tea was a let down. I have had sweet tea from South Carolina up to Northern Minnesota and this did not stack up, the peach tea was an acceptable substitute. The restaurant was clean and comfortable to eat in and the service was outstanding (5 stars). Overall, good but not great. First time coming here went to the drive thru today, it took 15 mins for our food to come out. As soon as we received the food, everything was cold! My first visit here. The lobby and counter were very inviting and way more appealing than your typical fast casual kind of place. I ordered a Hungry Plate and I could barely eat all of it. The tenders were a decent size and were served very hot. The wings were slightly on the smallish side but were prepared to perfection. I doubt they sell the juiced up type wings you find at other fast food places. I had them mix in the sauce prior to serving - I am not sure how they do it - but the slims sauce was great. The highlight was the fried mushrooms. They were very good. I like this place and will be going back. They have a large family/community type table thing in the middle - not sure I have seen this much in the past. Kind of liked it. Will probably try the drive thru next time - like to go inside first time to these kind of places to adequately check out the menu. read more

I noticed that it was available today on Foodsby so I ordered the Buffalo Chicken Salad (hold the fried onions and croutons) for delivery to my office. You lost my business today, Slim Chickens. Walked in and my feet stuck to every inch of the floor as I walked from the grease. I sat with paper towels between my feet and the floor. I went to fill my cup with strawberry fanta--orange fanta came out with no warning on either strawberry choice. Two 1/2 cups wasted because they now have orange pop? Finally, we ordered Mac n cheese as we always do. It came out not even lukewarm. If you look at my picture, you can see glops of thick, hard cheese stuck between the noodles. I was trying to be nice so I asked the girl if she'd heat until warm in the microwave...well, I waited up there and heard all the cooks/other workers talk about how it was "hot". All I can say is look at the picture. We threw it away--there was another black dish full not in the picture we tried to pick around. No luck! This is another one of those "to each their own" places because I would say that most people already have a "what fried chicken and wings are supposed to taste like" mindset going into it. I also agree with another reviewer, the prices aren't bad if you consider the quality of food that they are offering (fresh and made to order) and the location by Bass Pro. If you are worried about them being too high before you visit, you can look at their menu online and they have them listed. :) I hope others realize that this Independence location only opened 7 weeks ago. If you had a bad experience with the staff not knowing what they're doing, the menu (kids menu only for 14 and under?), food (feathers on FRESH chicken which also happens sometimes when you buy them fresh at a grocery store), etc then know that service and food quality will likely improve over time. I am glad that a place like this opened here. I love the chicken tenders, the sides, the variety of sauces, and the mason jar desserts are also really good. We ordered three entrees and only one meal was prepare correctly. The cayenne ranch chicken sandwich was missing the cayenne ranch sauce which just makes it a fried chicken sandwich. The buffalo chicken wrap contained no buffalo sauce and the tortilla was not cooked to soften it. It basically just fell to pieces at each fold which would have bee obvious to whoever prepared it. Slim chickens is a great option when I am in eastern jackson county. Fresh to order tenders wings wraps and salads. I usually get the five and five plate which is five tenders and five wings. Blue cheese and Jalapeño ranch sides. Usually alternate between mushrooms and fried okra. So far everything has been great. My wife says the salads are good. I travel a lot and think they are an improved version of raising canes. read more
