I placed an order for pickup, but my coworker ended up running about 30 minutes late to pick it up. She called ahead to let the staff know about the delay and asked if our drinks could be remade. They said it wouldn't be a problem, so we thought everything would be fine. However, when I finally got my drink--a matcha latte with oat milk and vanilla syrup--it was really disappointing. The drink was completely watered down and had almost no matcha flavor. It tasted like watered down oat milk with just a hint of matcha and vanilla. If the drink hadn't been remade as promised, I would have understood and adjusted my expectations, but since we were told it would be, the quality was really disappointing. read more

Visited slowpokes on Saturday afternoon to try a new coffeeshop. I ordered their seasonal latter Purple Rain which was Ube and Vanilla at recommendation of the barista I went w iced. I also ordered a blueberry danish. The latte was absolutely delightful the flavors were such a beautiful mix, I didn't want it to finish. The danish was just ok but then again it's not an item they make in house. Their menus has many interesting items I look forward to going back to try their in house foods. The location was very accessible I had no issues finding free parking despite visiting on a weekend. They have many seating options weather you want to hangout w friends, work, read or sit by the window overlooking beautiful park. I loved the bar, I sat there and read for sometime, the decor had a masculine old time feel but when you paid close attention there were many modern elements in there, quite entertaining to look at. Lots of parking and a good amount of seating - the bar seats are awkwardly far from the counter but there are outlets there (the tables along the wall have outlets too). The middle tables are my favorite space to study/work, but no outlets. Coffee and drinks are never hot enough for me but they have some fun drink options like the golden milk latte. If you're camping out for a long study sesh, then the paninos and food options will keep you functioning for hours and you can reward yourself with a half off bottle of wine on Wednesdays! read more

This was a lovely find - thank you, Yelpers! We went out for a Sunday coffee since Daylight Savings Time ending didn't keep us from waking up at our "normal" time. We were a little confused when we turned onto the street to find Slowpokes but quickly found the sign for the coffee shop as well as the parking garage nearby for patrons. We also, unfortunately, noticed a car that had parked in front of Slowpokes and was booted. This was clear enough that we should park in the garage. Luckily, as we walked out of the garage, the attendant in the lobby reminded us to get our parking validated, so we did! It's a neat shop! It's not huge and has some neat features such as bolted down chairs, stools, etc. This was odd for me because I needed to scoot my chair in a little more to properly reach my coffee, but I managed with my bolted chair. My husband commented on how it was probably best for the bar portion of the restaurant to have bolted seating. Our drinks were great! We had a latte with coconut milk and a pumpkin pie soy latte. The one thing that surprised me a bit was the lack of tap water that was accessible as is the case in most coffee shops around town. We ended up purchasing bottled water, but it's possible that I missed the sign for free-water? Who knows. The most adorable coffee shop ever! It is right next to a large park where you can enjoy a walk or bring your dog. I didn't want coffee so I got the the hibiscus lemonade. Had no idea this second location of Slowpokes existed until I found them on Yelp. I needed to "kill time" while waiting for prints in the area, so I popped into this Slowpokes located across the street from Levy Park, which is highly convenient for park goers. The coffee shop + cafe keeps busy. There were a lot of patrons, from students to families to business meetings. I ordered a soy chai latte and parked myself at the bar (you can order from there too). They have a kitchen + food menu, plenty of seating, outdoor seating and wifi. Though, I kept getting booted so I didn't stick around long. But the latte was perfect - stayed warm through every sip. Can't get enough of the Avocado Mash Sandwich that is always refreshingly delicious, perfectly salted and freshly mashed with olive oil on sourdough slice with arugula and little cherry tomatoes. And just as addicted if not more to the Chicken Pesto Panino served on a mouthwatering pretzel baguette with pads of mozzarella, arugula, avocado, and savory pesto and aioli. My little tip? Try this with dashes of Cholula hot sauce inside that can be found at the self serve station near front entrance next to silverware. Omg adds an incredible spicy spark that I can't get enough of. The iced Caramel Machiatteo never disappoints either. Expect great coffee and comfy atmosphere with friendly baristas and kind servers. I like that I can have my order "to go" so all food items are individually packed and securely placed in a sturdy bag and can walk out with to enjoy next door at the park. The location of this area is really nice for dates/family outings. I definitely love their aesthetics and wouldn't mind coming here to study or do WFH. I recommend this place if you enjoy eating light and clean. We ordered the meat & cheese board, chicken mozzarella salad, and avocado mash flat bread. All three are very simple dishes and not really much to it. The Affogato is where it's at. The ice cream they use is very creamy. This is a super cute coffee shop that's made more for catching up with friends than studying. The music (ranges from rock to alternative) is playing so loud that it is difficult to hear the person next to you speak, let alone focus on your books. Furthermore, the chairs are uncomfortable. The seats in the center are backless, and the booth seating is higher than the level of the table, making you crouch to work and giving you terrible neck and back pain if you're camped out there for a while. I think I would've enjoyed this place more if I came socially. Don't park on the street or else you'll get towed; park in the parking garage next door. Slowpokes will validate your parking at checkout, which I appreciated. There's free WiFi. Ordered the cold brew, but they were out, and got the iced Americano instead. It was decent, but nothing to write home about. Slowpokes is an interesting concept, mixing a coffee shop with a bar/social hangout area. Theoretically, it makes sense. But from what I saw, most of the patrons there were trying to study, and I would hope that eventually, there would be a designated time where the volume of the music would decrease, or they could change it to a softer acoustic jazz to help others focus. read more

I've never been to the original Slowpokes location. But, I wanted to check this new location out, since it was semi-closer to me. Lol. I read reviews about the parking garage next door, which was nice since Slowpokes validated parking for up to 3 hrs. Yay for free parking. The ambience in here is nice. I liked that they had tables with dividers for private conversations with people. I wanted to sit at the bar this visit to get some productive work done. This was a nice seat to bask in all the unique items on their shelf, which made references to a slow, relaxing life. In particular, sloths were hidden in the shelves if you looked closely enough. Behind, there was another sloth painting along the walls. They also provided free WiFi with the password posted on the shelf. You just need to provide your email when you log in. It was working at a pretty good speed too. Now, to their coffee! I asked about their seasonal syrups for their lattes. It was either rose or lavender flavors. The barista raved about the lavender and reassured me that it wasn't too strong like soap. She was right. The lavender latte had a nice, pleasant flavor, while still maintaining its smoothness and potency as an espresso drink. Is it just me, or did the lavender taste slightly like an amaretto flavored drink? Either way, I would order this drink again. The background music playing wasn't my cup of tea. But, it was like white noise to get some work done without it being complete silence. I would love to come back for happy hour to try out their food. They also have beer on tap and wine available, if that's more your thing. This spot was across from Levy park. We went on a Saturday night wanting to try a new place. This place was actually new, having had opened only 6 months before. It's behind Kiran's and faces Levy Park. It's also next to a parking garage (free validated parking, so make sure you inform your cashier when you're ordering). Because it was late, I decided to keep it simple: a large iced chai (less ice) and two lattes for the 2 others with me, plus an order of churro donuts. The place was clean, tastefully decorated and had an abundance of seats and tables. They also had some outside seating. Not to mention sloths; I love sloths. Not real sloths, mind you. I must tell you about the CHURRO DONUTS. They come in twos and a side of apple butter. They are DIVINE. Delightfully fluffy and tear-apart.... the apple butter gave them a fruity tang. Not too sweet either, which is a big thing with me. Funny how I love sweets (just not too sweet). I lamented that I only ordered one set. The chai was interesting. It had a different dimension (or maybe I haven't had too many chais but it was clearly made with whole milk and the spices reminded me vaguely of root beer. Strange, right? I decided I liked it. The lattes were... lattes. I asked and that was the verdict. Males. Pfft. Verdict? I loved the experience and those donuts are a must have! They also have other food items like breakfast tacos, sandwiches, and flatbreads... not to mention a cheese-and-Meat platter. I'd love to go back for more donuts and try a more substantial dish. The best experience is to come in on the weekend and relax with the sights and sounds of Levy Park just outside. I don't claim any experience with the food or alcohol, but the coffee is delicious and the chill environment is wonderfully conducive to productivity. Alternative milks are available upon request for an extra 50 cents. The ambient music isn't annoying and the staff are attentive and friendly! Seating is plentiful and most tables have access to outlets. There's a spigot for water that I proceeded to accidentally spill all over my table and chair (oops). Do note that they validate parking in the garage for up to 3 hours, which is the same as if you were to park on the street. If you're planning on coming for longer than that (me @ any coffeeshop during finals season), you should probably parallel park a little bit farther where you don't see a 3-hour maximum sign, just in case. read more

The pricing is pretty on par with local coffee shops, just a tad bit lower than Starbucks. Iced coffee (Americano not cold/nitro brew) w flavor runs $3.79 (50 cents added for flavor). Drip coffee only lasts till 12P and that's $2.50 ....it goes up from there. The decor is really appealing - the slow poke theme is reiterated throughout the store without being overwhelming. There's very subtle hints of eclectic, earthy, playful and retro vibes - again, it creates a relaxing experience to work / have quiet conversations. Oh, a plus is the beer/wine menu they have! On tap - always beats bottled for me. I'm not sure what the crowd is like in the evenings/happy hour but it's a nice treat. Parking - there's one street parking reserved for park goers and PAID garage parking. I've been a Slowpokes fanatic for a couple years now! When I found out they opened a second location in the Upper Kirby area, I raced over to check it out! Parking can be a pain, there's a parking garage that's free for the first 30 minutes and $1 per 30 minutes thereafter with a daily max rate of $10. We got lucky and found street parking around the park area. I'm pleasantly surprised to see such a nice big park behind this building. I love this area instantly and will definitely come back. This new SlowPokes has the same vibe as the old location, with the same seating styles and same slow animal memorabilia. I absolutely love Slowpokes. It is situated directly across from the park so when you are sitting outside you get a great view of the park (I would inform you that there were no umbrellas outside so when the sun is out it might be difficult to sit out there). The staff is friendly and helpful. Inside is every spacious and would be great if you wanted to change your work from home scenery or meet friends. And I absolutely love that they have Happy Hour especially one that includes both drinks and snacks. I had a glass of white wine (maybe chardonnay, I do not remember but it was delicious) and the pretzel, which came out hot...it was very good. I was like, "A sloth-themed coffee shop?! I'm there!"
