I'm literally writing this review as I am IN this place! This is a fairly new coffee shop but it also has adult options as well which is pretty neat. I came here with a friend to study at night so the area looked a little sketch but inside it's pretty hip with some nice upbeat music playing. I didn't know what to expect as I walked in nor did I know what to order so I asked the barista for her recommendations and she certainly knew her stuff. At first I was confident that I wanted the affogato with almond gelato (You could pick from three different flavors almond, chocolate, or vanilla) but as she went on to explain some other options and her personal favs it made me switch from the affogato to the peanut butter latte which is essentially a reeses' peanut butter cup! I also wanted a cookie with my drink because I heard the cookies were amazing here. So when I mentioned cookies her eyes lit up and I basically had to fasten my seatbelts for this because she was going to school me on their cookies! Basically their cookies aren't homemade but they get it from 3 other LOCAL bakeries which I was fine with. She said all of their cookies were amazing they have a homemade oreo cookie, chocolate chip cookie, snickerdoodle cookie, and her personal favorite was the potato chip cookie (sounds weird but I've had something similar to this in NYC and it's actually pretty damn good). I instantly got wowed and excited at the same time and I knew I wanted the potato chip cookie but sadly they ran out so I asked her to give me her next best cookie which was the homemade oreo. My friend got a caramel macchiato and a snickerdoole so I got to try his cookie as well. The oreo had a sea salt finish which played with the different notes of sweet and savory on your palate when eating it (10/10 would recommend). The peanut butter latte itself was very good if you love peanut butter, it tasted exactly like a reeses peanut butter cup without being too sweet! Overall, the entire experience was great and it was all thanks to the barista, Allison, so shout out to her in this post! She was very helpful and knowledgeable in helping us order. This place had plenty of parking. This vibe and decor were great. Service was stellar; I was told that the owner actually made me my drink. I had the hot caramel macchiato with almond milk, and it was excellent. Seating was plentiful and there were easy access outlets. I highly recommend, and will definitely be back. My sister and I were searching for a new cute coffee shop when we stumbled upon this place! The interior of the shop was so cute and had a lot of sloth, turtle, and snail decor! Which makes sense for their name. The baristas were very friendly to talk to and gave recommendations on their coffee flavours and house teas, as well as their snacks and entrees. The vibe of the place was very friendly and open, and they had large tables for a group of friends to play boardgames on (Which they also had available for anyone to play with on their shelf!). My sister and I got the Sugared Donut Grilled Cheese and Salmon Bagel respectively, both which were bomb. I love, love, love this place. It's a great neighbor establishment that offers delicious coffee and small bites. First of all, I love their simplistic yet modern decor. Secondly, their coffee is delicious. I loved my cafe breve. As for food, I'm a huge fan of their meat and cheese platter. I actually had the meat and cheese platter for lunch. Besides their great decor, food and drinks, Slowpokes is a great place to meet up with friends or business colleagues. Or just settle up solo into one of their cute booths for "me" time. Such a chill vibe here. One of my favorite spots in Houston to just slow down and get a good cup of joe. The staff is always warm and welcoming, kinda feels like a home away from home. Pretty nifty low key place. Great for a post-dinner activity for a date night. Bartender was really nice, and there were some fun board games in there. Might've been a bit more fun if the decor and furniture was cozier, like chairs and couches, but space is limited, so the seating makes sense when it's too hot to go onto the patio. Wish there had been a low cost cheaper wine on the menu. The higher priced wine still wasn't the smoothest to me. But oh well. This place is super cool. Looks like the outside was recently remodeled, so there's no signage, but yes the brown building with all the cars is the right place! I had a pour over with the Nicaraguan roast and I loved the smoky, nutty flavors. Just the right amount of bitterness and it blended well into the other flavors. I LOVE LOVE LOVE that they serve their food menu all day (breakfast tacos all day too!). Most coffee shops stop serving food after 2, but here you can eat everything their kitchen serves until they close at 10pm! I had the chicken pesto panino and I think Slowpokes may have stolen my heart for favorite coffee shop sandwich. It was a generous portion of chicken breast on a long sheet of pretzel bread, arugula, pesto and mozzarella. It was flavorful, not overly salty, and filling. The baristas really seem to enjoy their job and genuinely care about your feedback! About a 40 minute drive for me, but you can bet your ass I'll be back. Slowpokes is very close to my house, and I really want to like it. But I don't. The music is nice. They charged me $6 for a small cup of tea. When I went for more hot water, I was told they don't do refills. I've been to tea houses and coffee shops around the world. This tea was good, but it wasn't that good. Go to Antidote or Boomtown. Much better places with better attitudes. read more

When they first opened I'd go study for a few hours but these days can't really find a seat in the mornings. Still, great spot. I've been at night for wine dates and have had a great time. This is a good place to study but honestly their food and tea is over priced for the quality served. I do love the theme though.
