I had heard great things about their The Bestest Seller and decided to stop by for the first time during the start of the pandemic when they were serving with a closed dining area. I have been hooked since and am so happy to see they've been able to resume their dine-in services. The staff is so kind and the food is always delicious. I have tried a few of the options, but really do think one can never go wrong ordering The Bestest Seller. I get it with the biscuit and chicken sausage. The bacon jam is something else and I dream about it almost every week. I'd love to stop by some time and have a proper sit-down breakfast. This review is for their Community Dinner Series. So Smack Dab offers Community dinners for a suggested donation every Wednesday. I'm not sure how long they been doing it but tonight was the night I wanted to check it out. You have the option to have your meal delivered but I stopped by to get to go meals. Tonight's offering was their Italian Vegetable Soup, Roasted Broccoli, Fresh Bread and Chocolate Orange Cake. I'm very glad I did. Now granted it was vegan but I was ok with that. I could skip meat for a day or so. This is an amazing concept and offering to those who may not have the funds for a well done, healthy, home cooked meal. Before the pandemic, we used to see crowds waiting outside this place for bunch/ lunch, so it's been on my list of places to check out for a while. We reviewed their menu online and ordered though their website/ Toast Tab. Food was ready in about 30 minutes. We originally ordered an almond croissant, but they ran out. They gave us a call about 5 mins before the order was ready to see if there was another baked item we would be interested in subbing for, so we got the Cinnamon Swirl Coffee cake. We got the text message saying the food was ready to pick up. We snagged a parking spot in the parking lot. Walked in, picked up the bag of food (it was heavy!) and ate the food in the car. Everything was delicious! I was worried the portions might be small based on the pictures, but the breakfast/ brunch items are meaty and super fulling. I was given a free donut as a sample for their seasonal donuts, Oh my gosh... delicious! I don't like donuts. Never have, but this Matcha Almond vegan donut was amazing and just the right sizing. Alright Smack Dab. I see you! I don't know why I didn't know about you before, because if I had, you would have been my go-to breakfast spot at the start of this crazy pandemic. I have been struggling to find good brunch take out or delivery for a while and just when I started to lose hope, an article chronicling the best breakfast sandwich came across my newsfeed. One of the featured restaurants was Smack Dab, and after seeing the picture, I knew I had to make this a reality. I ordered an altered version of the Best Seller and donuts. The Best Seller is their breakfast sandwich that includes the following: cheesy herb biscuit, egg, bacon jam, garlic chive mayo. I added cheese and sausage to this. Holy crap it was freaking fantastic. I loved that it had both sweet and savory elements. I also loved the texture of the biscuit. I will definitely be getting this again. The donuts were decent as well. I do wish the flavor profile came out a little stronger because it was hard to differentiate them despite being 3 distinct flavors. Finally, in terms of my pick up experience, I would offer one piece of advice. When ordering online, it gives you a pick up time and directions to call the restaurant when you are there. What they don't say is that when you get there and call, they ask if you received a text message. We had no knowledge of a text message and so we waited an extra 20 min past the "ready" time indicated in the confirmation email. Found this place nestled at the end of a strip mall in Rogers Park and what a find. Hipster heaven. We were lucky to get in after the initial crowd and right before the next rush. No wait at all.
