The menu has a new look, but it's the same delicious food as always!

I missed the Greenhouse Inn during Covid. This is our first time we've been able to come back after they reopened.

Outdoor dining @ the entry (I need a new camera)

Yesterday I was invited to lunch w/my buddy from the gym. He suggested Greenhouse Inn located on corner of Ridge Ave & Devon. I'm always open to trying something new and different. Greenhouse Inn is part of Misericordia Home. Misericordia Home is a not-for-profit developmental home for persons with mild to profound developmental disabilities in Chicago, Illinois. It is run by the Sisters of Mercy and operated under the auspices of the Archdiocese of Chicago. Many of the people that work there are residents of the home which I'm told has an 8 year waiting list, but once you are accepted you are there for life. The Greenhouse Inn is located on the campus and is part of the home. The Greenhouse Inn was packed when we got there with a large dining area seating perhaps around 100 people. They serve a buffet lunch Tuesday - Friday. I'm told the menu changes everyday so it's best to call about 11am to find out what is being served on that particular day. Yesterday at the salad bar they had leaf salad, a broccoli salad, pasta salad, cole slaw & green beans cooked to perfection. There was also jello & a dessert salad with fruit, coconut and whipped cream. The main entry was baked chicken, potatoes & vegetables w/cooked carrots & green beans. The chicken was delicious cooked to perfection, very moist & seasoned very well. In addition you can order items ala cart like burgers or sandwiches. We both ordered the buffet. They also have baked goods for sale that looked delicious (maybe next time) They also have an outdoor dining area which we should have eaten at since the weather was near perfect for being outside

A great cause & a great meal! Beautiful buffet for Sunday. Lunch looks fabulous too. Buffet even had brisket & shrimp. Such kind people. I'll definitely go back.

My order of fish and chips. The fish and chips were tasty. Loved the tartar sauce!

My husband and I were on the lookout for a casual lunch spot over the holidays and The Greenhouse Inn came to mind. The food was good and the service was excellent! Post meal, this was worth the trip up to West Rogers Park. The Greenhouse Inn is a quaint, cafeteria style restaurant. It can hold at least 100 guests. The overall ambiance makes you feel as if you've just stepped into grandmas house. The servers are warm, accommodating, and they escort you to your table. The tables are set with formal place settings. We visited around Christmas and the restaurant was decorated from end to end with holiday decor. Even my placemat had Santa on it! The festive atmosphere really got me in a holiday mood. You have a choice to choose from their daily specials or from their menu. As other Yelpers have mentioned, they have a clever ordering system. At every table, there are colored sheets of paper categorized by courses (I.e. Appetizers/Main Courses/Specials/Drinks/Dessert). These colored sheets allow you to check off what item you'd like to have. When you're finished ordering, hand the paper over to your server to get the ball rolling. It's a great ordering system to help staff keep track of who ordered what. (See pics below). There are lots of options to choose from. There are several affordable dishes (ranging from $7-15) that can suit anyone's preferences. Whether your a vegetarian or pescatarian, it's nice to know that you can choose a vegan or gluten free dish in addition to their regular menu. I ordered the Fish and chips basket and Ben ordered Shrimp Alfredo pasta from the buffet. Both were good and the servings were just the right amount! We didn't get anything from the bakery but next time, I would like to purchase a chocolate chip loaf! There is ample parking in the Misericordia compound. They only serve lunch so check their hours of operation.

Pecan square. Yum!

They never change their buffet foods it's always the same anytime I go. It's decent food but some new items would be nice.

Well, unfortunately I couldn't really eat anything. I'm nondairy. I can't eat nightshade vegetables…read moreincluding red bell peppers which are all over the menu here. And I don't eat meats that are made with nitrates. So that knocks out the whole sandwich menu. Oh and I just don't like mushrooms. It's not their problem! Believe me, I know I'm a hot mess. You can't just order a sandwich with chicken and arugula because everything is pre-made and the chicken diced up and is already mixed with red bell peppers, more like a chicken salad sandwich, rather than just a piece of chicken breast waiting for some bread and accoutrements which is what I expected after reading the menu on my phone the day before choosing it for a visit. So it's impossible to get a custom sandwich where you pick and choose what's on it. But they were extremely nice answering all my questions about the food. I could maybe get some focaccia and a side of broccoli if I was desperate and nothing else was open. But I was in no rush and just went home and made something for myself. But my partner really enjoyed it so I'm glad we stopped by to check it out. It's definitely unique and convenient if you don't have so many food allergies like I do. I had already had my coffee fix for the day so I neglected to ask if they have nondairy milk options. There's limited seating inside but lots outside if the weather's nice! Cute little place.

So yummy! Great to grab to go for a picnic. Lemonades were awesome and we for sure will come back…read morefor a day on the patio. Classico were our favorite

I doubt anyone leaves feeling less jolly than they did going in. On this visit, I started with the After Word to drink. It was light-bodied, not at all too sweet, and possibly went down *too* easily. We split the short rib poutine and I can't think of a better dish to get you through the winter. The meat absolutely melted in the mouth and the cheese was abundant and rich. Would order again in a heartbeat! We also tried the alligator bites as a seasonal special. I'd not had alligator before, but they were super crispy and spicy with an addictive gochujang sauce. It really does taste like chicken. If you've ever wanted to try alligator, this is the place to do it. For the main event, I opted for the red beans and rice hand pie. It came with a light, citrus salad and delicious hand cut fries with 3 dipping sauces, which were very fun to try. I loved the buttery pie crust but the filling tasty very tomato forward- I was missing the heat of a traditional red beans & rice and wished there was more seasoning. Still good. As usual, the portions were generous for the price and we left with leftovers. Absolutely recommend making the trek over here to give B&B a try, and will be back soon!

Then I forget for a few months, find another $20, end up stumbling across this place again and going "why don't I come here more?" This has happened three times. The most important part though- it's real tasty. Always. I'd say all of it, but I'm still working my way through the menu, but the burgers and Mac never let me down. The servers are always really laid back, and nothing feels rushed. I think it's part of the charm; somewhere to go and relax and take your time to enjoy the vibe. And you know what would help the vibe even more? Including the bread pudding on the menu full time. Keeping that bad boy stocked for me at all times. (This time was my first time seeing it on the specials menu and listen, it WAS special. So special that you should upgrade it to mainstay is all.)

What the?? Did Yelp delete my old Sissy's review?? Well, here we go again, Sissy's is really cool…read morebecause it's on the North Side, close to Albany Park, which is a favorite for foodies because of the vastness of food and cuisines. And the richness of the food around here is acceptable for all budgets, and I say all that to say that Sissy's falls into this category. I'm sure it's a favorite for North Park University students, which is just across the street. We like to come here and walk off our calories on the campus....Stay ripped Yelpers!! But back to Sissy's, this is perhaps our 5th or 6th visit and our favorites are their: - empanadas (beef and chicken) and enjoy that chimichurri sauce!! - grilled chicken or steak salad with mango dressing (5 stars) - steak Jibarito, so very legit, Puerto Rico in the house!! - last but not least, as a dessert, we have the Maduros (sweet plantains) with guava and that's topped with chihuahua cheese (although some people have this as an appetizer). Muchas gracias!! Muy bien!! Sissy's!!

Usually the service is outstanding too but for some reason the service was woefully inadequate. I asked for 2 beef empanadas she brought me 2 chicken empanadas (still good) but not what I ordered. I also ordered the breakfast sandwich on chibatta bread w/chorizo, egg Swiss cheese & mayo. I also ordered sweet potato chips. This was very good. I'm not sure if the server was angry at me? I've eaten here many times before but for whatever reason she refused to acknowledge me or even look my way. I wanted more ice water but she kept walking back and forth to the other tables even though I repeatedly tried to flag her down. Finally I stood up to get my own water that's when she finally came w/the water. Even though the bill was only $17 including tax I gave her a $5 tip which I probably shouldn't have based on her completely ignoring me. WHATS UP W/THAT?
