Food - Ordered the lamb combo that came with garlic noodles, broccoli & Cajun corn cob let's. Also ordered small bucket, white rice, seafood egg rolls and lemonade. We tried all because it was the 1st time there. 1. Pos - I have to say their seasonings are fire! There wasn't one seasoning I didn't like. 2. Neg - Lamb was overcooked and over-seasoned. 3. Neg - Each food item came in its own small plastic, lidded container which quickly crowded the table due to our orders. It could have been far less complicated to put all items in the combo, in a lidded to-go, or food prep container, instead of the 4 containers. We ended up with 12 containers on our table. 4. The bucket order was cute but the amount of food in it was so minimal, that should've been put in the sml lidded containers. 5. The garlic noodles were a huge no-no. The overcooked noodles were resting in garlic oil, and not a garlic sauce. This is the only dish I wouldn't order again. 6. One of the primary reasons we went was to try their Smackarita alcohol drink and it was the ONLY item on the menu that was unavailable. Service - The staff were all personable and attentive. The staff shirts that has 'SECURITY ' on them were funny & cute. The gentleman at the register also serenaded us with the nice R & B music they played. Ambiance - The ambiance is 'okay'. 1. I definitely liked the Smack wall, designed for all guests to post the names of anyone they'd like to SMACK...cute. 2. There was no trash can in the dining area for customers to throw away all those tiny containers. 3. The tables were not cleaned before our food was sat down. No one else's were either the entire hour and a half we were there, with many coming in and out. 4. In today's world where you can get a 70" TV for a couple hundred bucks, the this there were too small for the venue. 5. There's absolutely no parking close so we had to park 2 blocks away and walk, which in DTLA at times, can be a challenge. If I went back again, I'd Uber, or something similar but unfortunately, I probably won't go back. I remain a strong supporter of Black-owned businesses, and my daughter and I will continue to try them out, as much as we can. read more

I just had my first meal, and it was excellent. The operators are serious about Cajun spicing. So am I. The shrimp in the Smack Em minibucket were large. I would have paid $5 each for them at the Jonathan Club. The rest of the contents were great: corn, potatoes, and sausage. The prices aren't just reasonable. They are low for the quality and quantity of the food. They just opened a few days ago, and are still spinning up a few aspects of the operation, but the Service was quick (they are cashless). The staff were friendly and responsive (sweat equity will do that), and very informed about trends downtown. They picked their location with intent. The store occupies a good spot on Flower, previously occupied by a fast food place that was open 20+ years but unfortunately closed after the pandemic. Petra's on the north side has expanded and made a lot of improvements. LADoT removed a bus bench on Flower that was an attractive nuisance. The new Taco Bell Cantina is on the south side. The corner neighbor at 800 Wilshire gated off an alcove in front of a set of utility double doors on the north side of Petra that eliminated another attractive nuisance. Right now, this section of Flower is looking good. Smack Em is a great addition to the storefronts. I am local (7th and Hope), so I will be back, probably for takeout since I am so close. read more

I had an amazing experience at Smack Em Cajun seafood on my first visit! Located conveniently at the corner of 7th and Flower in DTLA, the vibrant atmosphere immediately caught my attention. Upon entering, I was warmly greeted by the friendly girl at the front desk, who guided me to the kiosk for order placement. I decided to go for the large Smack Em bucket, and the added the Smack Juice to wash it down. While waiting for my food, I soaked in the colorful and upbeat vibe of the restaurant. The 90s R&B music set the perfect background, and the humorous artwork on the walls kept me entertained. I was pleasantly surprised by the quick service. My order was ready in just about 10 minutes which was perfect because I was on my lunch break. When I took my first bite I was hooked on the explosive Cajun flavors they definitely know what they are doing in the kitchen. A few things to note: They only accepts card payments, and gratuity for the cooks is already included, ensuring that the staff is well taken care of. The environment seems family-friendly, and parking is available on the street or in a nearby lot. The kiosk ordering system makes it easy and efficient for everyone. I ordered one Large Smack Bucket, from seeing it online I didn't think I would get full with one bucket but I did. The food was absolutely amazing, the sauce was great. Brandon helped me out with my order and substitutions, being that I'm super picky and allergic to Shrimp. Brandon made my meal complete despite my pickiness. I dined in which was amazing, Geo was cleaning the tables as people were leaving. Geo also recommended me the Smack-A-Rita and let me tell you I WAS LIT on this good Sunday okkk! Also last min Geo brought me out a chicken wing that's not on the menu yet with their sauce on top! Omg I hope it makes it to the menu because it was fire!!! Also the Fried Oreos were okay, never had them before. I wouldn't personally order them, they are too sweet for me, although if you like sweets, GET IT! The Cajun flavor was out of this world perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of spice. The service truly blew me away. For a fast casual restaurant, the team went above and beyond. Cosmic was warm, welcoming, and super helpful with the kiosk. Gio was attentive and made sure I had everything I needed utensils, napkins, and a drink and even checked in throughout my meal to make sure I was good.
