The server set down our mimosas and a water and never came back to see if we wanted to purchase additional alcohol, even though she provided the beverage menu when we sat down. We had breakfast for the first time at Small Barn today and it was delicious! Sunny Saturday morning seating outside (with heaters) was perfect. We got started with the Get Roasted Bloody Marys which were amazing and almost a meal in themselves. Shared the Hamachi Crudo which was very clean and flavorful. Delish! I had the Avocado & Smoked Salmon Toast which was a generous portion & so good! Hubs got the Eggs Benedict which was a classic take with a new spin: arugula, fresh tomato and very special, house made hollandaise. Yum! The burger is $27 Looked at yelp reviews/photos read the Description, so I was really appealed to the burger. Overall on my scale, I'd rate this 6.7(Above 5 on my scale is considered good). The onions described aren't really there, flavor wise and overall the sauce as well. Felt like I ate a burger of Garlic. Again not bad, but the overall taste isn't what it should be if following the items described on the burger: That's my main issue, the food is overpriced for what I was given. Rude hostess/person answering the phone before we got there. They put us in the far dark back corner in the bushes/trees and we had to walk through shrubbery to get to our seats or around the table. It was not cool and very embarrassing. Loose branches and leaves were flying into my plate and onto my head/body. I did not eat in peace. The food is not worth $37 for a burger that looks like a krabby patty with literally 10 fries maybe 15, on the plate. We literally could have gone next door to the cheeseburger place and I could've bought food for so many people for the total bill we received. Don't even get a soda because they will give you a sip of it and no refills. Lol what a joke small barn. Please do better. We were not begging for free food and this is not a 5 Michelin star place that you guys allowed for us to be seen at. Never coming back now that we know better. This was my fourth visit to Small Barn, and up until now we've never been disappointed. We came with friends to kick off the Christmas season and soak in the festive atmosphere--twinkling lights, cozy décor, and that warm holiday feeling. Things started off a bit rocky when we ordered a glass of wine and were told it was only available by the bottle--and that they were out of it anyway. Strike one. We moved on to choosing another wine, and our server, Andy, offered to bring us a taste. Instead of bringing each of us a small sample, he brought one glass for my friend and me to share, which was awkward. We went with it, but the awkwardness continued when he later poured wine into the same glass we had both already used. When I asked about getting my own fresh glass, he simply said he could bring one. At that point, I was unsure about his attention to detail, and the whole interaction felt unprofessional. We ordered truffle fries while we settled in, and they were delicious. The Free Spirit cocktail was also amazingly good. Dinner overall was a hit--everyone enjoyed their dishes. The 20-layer lasagna was flavorful with the pork, though the presentation could definitely use a pop of color; the gray plate didn't do it justice. The Branzino was excellent, and the New York was also enjoyed. The butter cake for dessert was a standout. Service, however, continued to be an issue. We had to flag down our server several times for additional drinks and dessert. It felt like his attention was split--maybe between indoor and outdoor tables--and he didn't quite have the bandwidth to give consistent service. My husband and I rarely get to have a date night, so when we do, we make sure we pick places that are out of a normal range of places to eat. Something more fancy or someplace we wouldn't take our kids to eat (due to ambiance). We started with a charcuterie and I had a cocktail. Both were delicious. We both ordered the steak. My husband said his was cooked fine. I always order my steaks rare. The internal part of the steak was cooked right. Perfectly rare. The exterior though was burned. I was surprised how to exterior could be burned but the interior perfect. It wasn't just burned, it was charred and tasted that way. I ended up cutting the exterior part off and eating the interior part and it was perfect. I was surprised the kitchen sent it out that way because you could see that it was clearly burned. I have eaten at a lot of steakhouses in old town and in Temecula that are in the same price range and I have never come across this before. The service was great. The drinks great. The seasoned potatoes were good. And the steak interior was good. Just wish I didn't lose 20% of my steak because it was burned. I should have said something (that's on me) but it was busy and we were on a time crunch to get back for the sitter. They probably would have corrected it but the fact is it should have never been served in the first place. I took my leftovers with me to see if it got any better but it was the same. I would return and give it a try again. We like the ambiance, drinks and rest of the food. I'm including a picture from my leftovers so you can see how burned it was. It's in the downtown area right on the corner parking can be a challenge. You just have to look for it. We ended up parking about three blocks away just on the side street but enjoyed the walk and the shopping. This is a very friendly property. They've got wonderful wines from everywhere mainly other places, other than Temecula. We enjoyed the grilled salmon, With the assortment of mushrooms and the Aji tuna appetizer so good. Such a cute place! I came to Temecula for a wedding, and a friend said she dined here the previous day. She said with each bite, it got better and better. Hmm... I never heard those kind words before. So even though we had a whole city to explore, we took her word for it. First impressions- super cute! The host was so friendly. Chipper and welcoming. Sat us at a cute small table. Our server was also great. Fast and knowledgeable. The manager came and introduced himself as well. This was a great find. We were staying at the hotsprings and looking for a good place to eat for our group. The restaurant is located in historic old town Temecula right on the corner. Our server was wonderful, and our pre food cocktails were delightful. We started with the carrot bisque, and the artichokes. The soup was delicious, and perfect for a cold evening. The artichokes had a great flavor profile but unfortunately were under clooked and waterlogged. We then ordered family style the whole sea bass, tomahawk, and shortrib . The shortrib was perfectly cooked, fall off the bone tender and delicious. The tomahawk was perfectly cooked and delicious. The sea bass was amazing it was steamed in a banana leaf served with pickled veg and eaten like a lettuce wrap. All together I definitely recommend eating here . read more

One of the worst brunch outings I've experienced. Terrible pretty much from start to finish. Booked an indoor table for 4 through open table. Called in advance to confirm it would be indoors with AC because the Murrieta summer sun can be brutal. I was assured that they did have AC and our reservation was confirmed. When we arrived the hostess told us that indoor seating was full and our only option was to wait or sit outside despite our reservation. No apology, no complimentary beverages to help us cool down in the sun. Nothing. We sat outside and the hostess never followed up to let us know when a table inside became available. Terrible organization, planning and service from the hostess. Okay, maybe the food and service will be better than the hostess. The server was definitely more friendly, but unfortunately equally inept. Forgot to bring coffee, didn't know the ingredients for the food on the menu and despite saying that the chicken sandwich didn't have pickles, the slaw did. Instead of confirming whether I still wanted the sandwich without the slaw, they just removed the slaw entirely. Okay so how was the food? Terrible. Both my wife and I got the fried chicken sandwich. Mine was burnt and both of ours were waaay too salty. Inedible. We rarely send food back but this was ridiculous especially for a 25 dollar sandwich. The chef apparently confirmed that it was too salty and they offered us a complimentary dessert to apologize. So we switched to eggs, bacon and potatoes, since how hard could that be right, just play it safe... Well the eggs were cold. The breakfast potatoes were hard as a rock and just generally nothing special about the breakfast. Honestly Denny's probably be about the same quality. Okay, so now we're ready to get the hell out of there but the server was busy chit chatting with the hostess and organizing dishes instead of realizing we're all standing around trying to leave. Instead of bringing the complimentary dessert to go, they brought it to the table and my wife had to wait for them to box it up while we took our little one out of the heat. Bad host, bad organization and planning, poor service and bad overpriced food. Definitely won't be back and definitely don't recommend. read more

The eclectic patio furniture adds the backyard barn feel, and the menu follows suit. Friendly staff seated us quickly, and asked if we wanted to sit indoors or outdoors. Outside was quite pleasant in the shade. From mimosas with locally made sparkling wine and fresh squeezed orange juice, to fresh greens and baked goods. Even the entrees with fresh fish or meats seemed to be quite seasonal. My wife ordered the quiche, because, who doesn't like quiche! But then almost changed her order after she realized it was completely egg-less. Luckily she went with it, and we were delighted with how good it was! I'd never know it was egg-less! The service and ambiance were great, don't change a thing. That being said, the brunch and price for the brunch, not so much. There wasn't much of a choice at least not much more than what you would get maybe at a hotel that includes continental breakfast and the hotel was still better. The food was subpar to say the least and was way overpriced. We paid (tip included because again, the service was not the problem and deserved it) $400 for 5 people. Granted, we haven't done brunch buffet style in years, but the two places we have, Marie Calendars and Tom Hams (San Diego area) and they had people making your eggs to order, among other things and a large selection of other items that were fresh and delicious, and far less. I would go for seconds or thirds to try different things. I don't know how any other times of the day (dinner) are as far as their menu goes or how good it is, but hopefully it is a lot better than this. I will rate this no more than two stars and that is for their great service but the food knocks off three stars. read more

Small barn is located in old town Temecula and definitely one of the cuter and hipper brunch spots. There is a large outdoor patio decorated with plants that is super chic and the location is excellent. It can be hard to find parking as it is in old town. Service is great and we came without a reservation on a Saturday morning and waiting around 15 minutes for a group of 4. They have a great menu and I saw so many dishes rolling out of the kitchen that I wanted to try. Had to go with the fluffy Ube French toast but I saw a great looking quiche and eggs Benedict. Their chocolate chip dessert looked great too! The Ube French toast was amazing. The bread was perfectly toasted on the outside but fluffy on the inside and the Ube flavor was definitely noticeable. The syrup they served with it was also great- thin and very flavorful and not thick and funky like a cheap diner. I wanted a whole scoop of the matcha cream that came with it!!! Everyone else at my table also loved their meals. Overall a cute brunch place to stop by. I hope they continue with their fun and unique dishes and excellent service! Therefore, thanks to the heater and after a few drinks, the cold did not matter. To start, we ordered one free spirit mezcal drink, one Jalisco serenade drink, and the grilled artichokes. We both enjoyed the drinks, and I enjoyed the grilled artichokes however, my fiance had never eaten artichokes the way they were served and was not a fan. Next, our main dishes were the steak frites, which we also both enjoyed. Afterward, we ordered another round of drinks, and my birthday treat was brought. This place has been on my list for a while and I'm glad I finally got to try it out. I am very impressed with the food. I ordered the pomme frites with aioli which is delicious, Ube French toast and steak and eggs to share with my family. My youngest son loved the French toast so much he wanted to place another order of it. My oldest really enjoyed the steak. I thought the steak and eggs were just ok. It came with house potatoes and toast. Their brunch menu ends at 3pm. Next time I want to try their steak frites from their dinner menu. They do have a kids menu but it's not printed. You just have to ask your server. My kids ordered a cheeseburger and grilled chicken from the kids menu. Items off the kids menu come with fries. We were pleasantly surprised by how good the grilled chicken tasted from the kids menu. My husband ordered the barn burger which I took a bite of and thought it was ok. There is cozy seating inside and outside. The decor is neutral and modern. This place is located in downtown Temecula so parking might be hard to find during busy times like weekends, Friday evening and holidays. Started with perfect and delicious Fries ($10) and Giant Grilled Prawns ($40). The prawns were giant and expertly grilled, but had a terrible white paste on them that tasted fermented-fishy. Our server didn't ask how we liked them and didn't seem to observe that we weren't eating them. Entrees: Burger was great. Summer chopped salad (added chicken) was just okay, but the added chopped chicken was dry and lacked flavor. Seabass a la plancha was a nearly perfect dish, but ruined with an over abundance of garlic aioli lingering beneath the perfectly cooked fish, ruining both the overall flavor and texture of the dish. Desserts: Corn brûlée was an unusual twist on a traditional crème brûlée. Glad I tasted it but wouldn't order again. The two chocolate chip cookies for $15 were warm and gooey on the edges and cold in the center. $15 for two cookies is eye-watering, but sure I'll pay if they are great and prepared with care (which these were not). The server did offer to remove them from the bill, however we refused since we enjoyed nibbling around the warm gooey edges. We sat indoors. Service was friendly, but inattentive and spotty. The Thanksgiving experience this year was like night and day from last year. We should've been wary when they didn't post the menu ahead of time like they had the year before. The waitress didn't even know the offerings until the day of. Unfortunately the menu itself was not as appealing as it was last year, we probably wouldn't have come this year based on the offerings. Even the Thanksgiving menu they did have was not up-to-date, some beers and cocktails listed were not available. Last year everything was really great, this year it definitely was not. The restaurant was packed last year and was half full this year at the same time, we wonder if locals know something we didn't and Small Barn isn't as great as it used to be all around. Even with a busier space, service was better last year even though our waitress was nice this time. Even the same pumpkin pie was not good this year. We won't plan to eat a Thanksgiving lunch here again next year. 2.5 stars rounded up. read more
