Somehow I am always surprised by what I can find at Smart & Final. I wouldn't say prices are like SUPER competitive, but still relatively affordable. Whenever I am looking for party supplies or even cookware in a pinch, I can always find what I need here. They have a decent alcohol selection and plenty of snacks. They have produce, but they don't have many organic options. You can also grab flowers and lots of themed goods depending on whatever Holiday it is. They have a good sized parking lot that makes it really easy to get in and out of there. Somehow there is always a line at check out. They don't always have that many cashiers working at once. I recently bought some duraflame logs here, but noticed they also sell real wood. Their in house brand First Street has a lot of decent quality products.

This is the worse Smart & Final cashier are lazy, unfriendly and unwilling to help. Instead of completing the transaction if there something they need to bounce check they move you out of the line and have you carry everything again to another register

Puss filled pork butt. EXTRA GRODY!!!

I had a semi good review of Smart & Final and I deleted it after today's nightmare! I used to think so incredibly high of S&F and that came crashing to the ground today. SO... it was like any other night, and I decided to pop in and get my usual staples, sugar, oil, cat food, napkins, butter, and because it's Chinese New Year... PORK BUTT (bone-in) so hubby could make pork dumplings. I paid my bill, helped bag my groceries, chatted with the cashier, and left. As I was driving home, I was super excited to think, "YAY... DUMPLINGS!" Boy, was I SEVERELY mistaken. I put the other items away, and hubby started to cut up the pork butt to prep it for the meat grinder. Then, all of a sudden I hear my husband say, "YEP. CANCER!!!!" I asked him what he was talking about and he said, "Come here... LOOK!!! GREEN PUSS!" When I saw it... I almost yacked in my kitchen. I kid you not... there was green puss oozing from the section of meat he had just cut into. IT WAS HUGE!!!! It was a lemon-sized tumor he cut into... and it STUNK like DEATH!!!! Hubby and I were absolutely mortified!!!! The smell along with the sight of that nasty-grody-raunchy, puss-filled meat made us physically sick. We IMMEDIATELY threw the meat away in the bin outside and sterilized and bleached EVERYTHING that it touched. By the way? That poor animal must have been in misery before it died. What's worse is how many other people have eaten from that same sickly animal? NEVER AGAIN! Smart & Final screwed up! Enjoy the pic... that's what we endured tonight!

Halfway through our purchase and already this many rotten or damaged fruit

They need to button up their produce quality. It's terrible buying a ton of berries for your party and realizing too late that 70% of the fruit was deceivingly normal in appearance but rather, frost damaged, or rotted from the inside out. Basically, they were stored at such low temperatures that I bet they had froze over before getting set out again at normal temperatures, ensuring that most of the fruit is damaged but would appear normal until you touch them/serve them. HUGE upset and not something you want to deal with an hour before your party. See my kitchen sink with all my wasted money. One out of every 10 blueberries was not mushy (and we bought 6 lbs!!!!)

It is always a dilemma for me, when it comes to going to Costco. Should I pay and absorb the large…read morecount of each item, or should I go somewhere else, for a smaller quantity of the item? The truth is, if you go to another store the same item is much higher in price and buying it at Costco, for a slightly higher price is worth it, because you get more on the count. Also, Costco generally has high quality products, that includes, their in house Kirkland brand. What is still unnerving is the human traffic of large carts and people at the store. They line up outside before opening as if tomorrow will be the big SFV earthquake. Once they are inside, they speed with their carts, as if there is an upcoming tsunami, and must get out soon, so that they can get into their cars, before the water takes them away. But there is a workable solution to this, at least for now. If you have an Executive Membership, you get access to the store at 9 am (during weekdays), instead of 10 am for regular card members. Then stay focused, have your list and do not mind playing some musical products (they move their stuff around every day, to confuse you), so you buy more, while looking for your product. And you will. However, this Executive Membership maybe your salvation. Where I am concerned, it is totally worth its value. Yes, I may have conquered the crowds, the stress and the blood pressure spikes. Like you, I will still be going back to Costco.

Getting around was annoying because it felt like we were constantly dodging other customers and weaving around each other. The item placement also threw me off. There were diapers, canned drinks, and fruits all together in one big area. Wipes were nowhere near the diapers. What the heck lol. Getting out was also a struggle since we went on a weekend and the In-N-Out in front was super busy, so traffic around the exit was a mess. They did have a good selection though, and we found some new things to try. I also liked their walk-in dairy fridge. Went here once and honestly probably wouldn't come back lol
