Definitely not my favorite grocery store in this side of town, but hey, when in a pinch, or if you're looking for bulk items, this is the place to check out. Prior to coming to Smart and Final, we were going to Restaurant Depot for bulk quantity meat. Unfortunately, we're no longer members of Restaurant Depot, so we had to resort to this place. On a good day, you can find bulk meat for a reasonable price. If you're planning on smoking or grilling for a party, you can def consider this place. The main reason for my three stars is the fact that this place gets packed and there are long lines. So, unless you're willing to wait in those long lines for bulk items, I'd go elsewhere.

Located in the Buena Vista Marketplace with lots of parking. Many necessities items still in stock, but sometimes do run out like paper, toilet paper and paper towels. Came in here looking for napkins for the dispenser at work but they were out. Also came here looking for Dial soap for dispenser and they were out of those as well.

The newest addition to the supermarket battleground is the Smart & Final Extra. It took over the Ralph's location which closed in 2015. If you haven't been before to an Extra before, it's essentially a bigger version of the store, still carrying Costco sized items like a 5 gallon jug of margarine, but it's also a supermarket with its own produce, meat, dairy sections. Similar to Sprouts market a mile or so away, they also sell grains, nuts, granolas & coffee beans by weight, which is great if you don't want to commit to a prepackaged amount. Their ice cream section rivals that of the nearby supermarkets, offering brands that range from the premium CoolHaus, to an old San Francisco favorite " It's It." There's also Talenti gelato, a nice selection of Haagen Daz & Tilamook. The store is big, and actually feel larger than when Ralph's occupied the space. Being the opening day, it was a madhouse. The parking lot was completely packed and to add to the madness, many vendors were there stocking the shelves as eager shoppers tried to maneuver around each other through the aisles. The prices overall seem competitive against Von's, Albertsons and Ralph's. With so many shopping choices in the area, consumers are sure to welcome another market to the area for price comparison. I will be back to stroll more leisurely in a few weeks, after the frenzy dies down.

This place sucks. There are few employees to help you. Kinda reminds me of the Home Depot. You are on your own.

good prices, in and out faster than Costco. I just wish the staff moved faster to open a line when there are a lot of people waiting to buy.

In the past year, there have been FIVE TIMES I have bought groceries from here and gotten them home and they have been EXPIRED. Like, not just a little bit, but by MONTHS. Dairy, juice, deli items, drinks... After the last time this happened, I mentioned it to a friend, whose friend works here. Apparently, they know they are selling expired stock, but they count on people not being bothered bringing it back. They will only take it off the shelves if it is more than 6 months out of date! Otherwise, they leave it there for people to buy. Second, they have been doing the most shitass renovations on this store for months, yet it's in no way improved the place. Apparently, while they're doing work in the produce section they don't cover anything, so if you have been buying produce from here since the renovations, you've been eating fruit and veg covered in chemicals and all sorts of building materials particles. Not only are both points disgusting and dangerous, they are ILLEGAL. I don't know who this store needs to be reported to, but it needs doing, because businesses can't operate like this.

Everytime I visit this location, the staff is super friendly and greet you as you enter. Plenty of parking available in the lot. I came in looking for their The Good Crisp Company Cheddar Cheese Balls which is similar to Cheetos Puff balls minus the calories and added orange chemicals. These bite-sized puffed snacks has a bold cheddar taste and satisfying texture and made without artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives. Since I am on a health journey, and I still crave some junk food, at least this version of cheese puffs is healthier. This is why I like Sprouts because you can find similar items that are organic or healthier with less preservatives. This location is easy to navigate and my next go to is their bulk section. I come here to grab just the amount of nuts, grains, or chocolates to help with portion control. I can even make my own trail mix to enjoy at work or on long road trips. Only downside is that I've seen adults and kids using their hands to grab samples and that's a big No No for me. That compromises the cleanliness of those bulk items. I hope they figure out something where samples aren't easily taken. I still walk by their bakery area and just smell the freshly baked goods, hoping to satisfy my cravings without the added calories. There are also deli items like sandwiches, salads, and ready-to-eat meals that I typically purchase to enjoy at work. Overall, had a good visit at this Monrovia location. Will check out their skincare and vitamin section next time!

But I found myself with an hour to kill in the Monrovia shopping center that I still inexorably associate with K-MART, and I wandered inside. No quarters on my person, so I did not get a cart. I imagine--like Gross Out-- you can come here weekly if your shopping list is simple, or if you are willing to mix things up with substitutes for what you were looking for in the first place. The fact that the owner thinks that I am someone else indicates to me that I am not the only unsatisfied customer they've had and they know it. As far as the truth of my first review, I can happily provide pictures of the manure around the grounds, as I filed a complaint with the city and with animal control and still have the paperwork (including the photos) from that. In addition, I am pretty sure that I can dig up the credit card statements that indicate I purchased hay during the time I was boarded at Irish Rose, although that is a bit extreme I think. Nonetheless, if anyone require any of this, please feel free to contact me and I will happily send what I have their way. The owner's response indicated that turn out was $6. That part is true, when you ask to have your horse turned out in the arena for 30 minutes. If you want your horse turned out in the large green pasture, it is $50 extra and I *DO* have the paperwork to prove that. As far as the owner's claims that they have never had a complaint, that is completely untrue. I made my feelings very clear, and in written form, when I left. I also have complained about the facility to appropriate organizations. In fact, I believe that Animal Control received a complaint about the improper care of an older horse and came out to the facility to put the animal down. I was not the one who complained about it or filed a report, however I cannot say that I am surprised in the slightest. The point of my review is not to be mean, I just want to make sure that no one else has to ever experience what I did. It is a horrible facility and I am pretty sure they're survived this long simply because of the business from Santa Anita. By the way, my horse's name is Scarlett, not Arnie.
