Initially, First American sent another company that labeled it "damaged" to avoid warranty coverage for a small dent my dryer had. So, I requested a second opinion and was assigned Smartchoice. However, Bogdan was very helpful and genuinely wanted to fix the dryer, understanding the impact a broken dryer can have on a family. I have used Smartchoice twice and both times have been positive. This time around Bogdan came to help with our freezer. He explained the problem to me, told me how to maintain my unit better and helped fix the problem. It was very helpful! The only small downside for me was that it seemed a little bit pricy when I wasn't having parts replaced. Had a couple issues with our GE fridge. This was Labor Day weekend. I texted SMARTCHOICE on Saturday they were able to send Bogdan out to access the problem. He was able to determine the issues and sent a quote later that day. I approved. Parts could not be ordered till Tuesday due to the holiday. Our experience with Smartchoice has been terrible. We were connected to them through First American Home Warranty to fix a washer leak. It has now been four months working with Viktor and in that time he has caused more issues with our washer than we had before he got his hands on it. In attempting to fix our washer, he caused a leak in the drain pipe which he claimed was not his fault and we had to pay out of pocket to fix the pipe. He also ordered new parts for the washer which took multiple weeks to get in and did not use some of the parts so he just left them in our garage for no reason. I'm not even sure the new parts were necessary or if he was just buying time on his open claim. When he claimed in one of his most recent visits (I think we've had him out siz times) that the washer had been fixed, we attempted to use the washer and noticed our spin cycle did not work, which was not an issue before Smartchoice attempted to fix our washer. Our clothes turned out sopping wet even though we were told the washer was "fixed" Overall terrible experience. Viktor clearly does not know what he's doing. I've told Home Warranty to remove this contractor from their service list. If you use Home Warranty and Smartchoice is your assigned service company, do not use them. We have been without a working washing machine since July because this company and its employees do not know how to properly fix the appliance. read more

I had an electric oven that suddenly began to lose power and not even stay on most of the time. I had another appliance repair company take a look and give me a quote ,which was about $850 to replace the control board. Alan from Smartchoice came out, and he initially also thought it was the control board, but his quote was much lower. But, the best part is that, before he left, he said he wanted to check "one more thing" and tested the circuit breaker to make sure power was being delivered to the oven. It turned out that the wires to the breaker were loose (due to solar panel installers that had made some changes in there a week before). Just by testing the wires, Alan had unknowingly tightened them. Neither Alan nor I realized that the oven was fixed until after later that day, but without his initiative to do that "one more thing," I would have spent hundreds of dollars and several more days trying to figure out what was wrong with the oven. Bottom line, Alan was very diligent and even if we didn't need to repair services, his quotes were more than fair. I would call him again for any other appliance issues. read more

After using this company for a while the last two claims were the worst I've had with any service contractor. I was connected to them through First American Home Warranty who showed little ownership for connecting us to smart choice for our repairs. The last two claims were as follows: Ac unit not blowing cold air: the technician noticed the system was over charged and he balanced the Freon. He also noticed that we did not have a U-trap for our water exhaust so he installed one for us. Our ac unit was still not working and he suggested that the system needed cleaning, which is not covered under our warranty. First American refused to continue servicing the unit until we got it cleaned, typically $700. We contacted a third party repair place, Stephen's plumbing and air, to clean the unit for us, and they determined that the U-trap was installed incorrectly. He reversed the u-trap set up and the unit works fine. We almost had to pay $700 oop because of the technician. FAHW refuses to accept ownership of the problem since the "qualified" technician's suggestion was cleaning. This process took over a month and our home had no ac in the middle of summer. For our washer: the technician had 2 scheduled no shows to appointments, and 1 no show to an unscheduled appointment. He had to come back 3-4 times to completely identify the problem, order correct part and tools, and fix it. The process took around a month to complete. Smartchoice offers no compensation for my time for missed work. Tell your home warranty company to not connect you with them, and don't select them if you do not have a home warranty company. read more

I placed a claim with Sears Home Warranty for repair of my refrigerator as it had stopped cooling 3/6/21. Sears assigned SmartChoice Appliance, and a couple of weeks 3/26/21 later a service technician came to my home and the technician replaced my compressor. By 3/15/21 realized that the ice maker was not making ice. It was just the ice that was produced from the compressor replacement. And the replacement part was LOUD. I called and they asked if I could record it and send it to this specific number. Of course the number was wrong. So I called and I now have to start all over and call Sears Home Warranty, who then tells me its okay to call SmartChoice to schedule an appointment. The lady on the phone said they have to order parts, and when they receive the parts they will call to schedule and appointment. So, I am waiting.. AGAIN! I've contacted SmartChoice Appliance on a few occasions to speak with a supervisor and they gave me the run around. I don't want this to be a threat but, I might just cancelled my Home Warranty with Sears, and do not recommend either Sears or SmartChoice Appliance for service. This is certainly not the way to treat consumers/customers/and warranty holders. Paying $600 per year PLUS the service fee of $75. 9for a call out service) for the Sears Home Warranty and receiving this kind of treatment is unacceptable! UPDATE: Sophia w/SmartChoice called me and mentioned the bad review. Yeah, I know right!? On 4/6 SmartChoice sent a "Bogdan" to repair. And as always, the repair man/persons are friendly, courteous, and Covid compliant. He spent the day repairing. He had to replace all parts. So now as of 4/6 my refrigerator is finally fixed. On 4/7 Sofia w/SmartChoice called me and checked that yes, indeed it is working and if I can update my review. *Here is my conclusion* The process is horrible and could use work. The call center and getting to a person of understanding and use, is nill. The prices, well.. lets say $$$$ But the repair persons who came out to my house were: Educated, kind, friendly, expedient, covid compliant and all were handsome young men too! UPDATE/removed star- Guess whom issues stopped working? So today 4/15/21, I made the call. I waited awhile before making this call in hopes it was just a fluke and my issue just needed time to start back up. But after the calling Sears Warranty then calling SmartChoice I'm officially back on the cue to be seen by a technician. Since this is the 4th time I am eligiable for a replacement. Now this is terrifying. Are they going to offer a sub par replacement? According to reviews I am bracing myself. read more
