So disappointed with this unethical company with unethical ownership. Smartchoice technician Edward was assigned by First American Home Warranty (I know...that should be the first warning) to perform an HVAC Tune-Up. Edward came out, checked the system, and advised that there was no refrigerant and likely a leak at some point. Nothing else...no other issues or needed repairs or maintenance (this becomes important later). Two days later, after putting in a formal service request with First American, Edward returns to perform a leak check. He quickly finds the leaks at the valves at the compressor, tells me that he would need to order parts to make the repair. Again, no mention of anything else needed to make the repair or any note that anything else needed to be cleaned or repaired (this is very important). Five days later, I am contacted by First American, telling me that the repair by Smartchoice has been approved, but to make the repair I am REQUIRED to perform OPTIONAL maintenance and $419.00 out of pocket. This made absolutely no sense, as Edward didn't tell me that there were any other issues. I immediately called First American, who told me that Smartchoice is requiring me to agree to "optional" cleaning of the evaporator coils (which are inside the house and were never inspected by Edward) to even order parts. Of course, First American was absolutely no help with this obvious padding (if a company doesn't want to do work for warranty prices, don't agree to do warranty work), and I was told that I had absolutely no choice but to agree, under duress, to have the "optional" maintenance performed so I can have a working HVAC system again. I even asked for the work to be moved to another contractor would be more ethical, but First American refused. A week later, Edward shows up again to make the repair. However, he now tells me for the first time that his company is requiring the CONDENDSOR coil (not the evaporator coil as they told FA) to be chemically cleaned. When I asked why, pointing out that he didn't inspect the condenser coil on either of his two prior visits, Edward told me that a dirty condenser coil will cause high PSI and result in another leak. I think to myself, "that makes sense", but here's where we go off the rails. I asked Edward to perform the repair, recharge the system, then SHOW ME that the PSI was high as a result of a dirty condenser coil. If the PSI was high, I would authorize him to perform the maintenance. If the PSI wasn't high, the condenser coil clearly didn't need a $419 chemical cleaning and the charge was just a scam. Clearly, Edward was in on the scam, or he would have agreed to show me why the "optional" maintenance was necessary. No such luck. At that point, Edward called his unethical company and apparently got orders not to perform any work, gathered up his equipment and walked off the job, refusing to make the repair unless I agreed to have him perform a $419 chemical cleaning that he would not show was even required. I guess I caught them in the act. No one should EVER hire this company to do any work for them. AVOID THIS COMPANY at all costs. They are unethical and will require "optional" upsells to even come out and make repairs. read more

I recently requested to fix my dishwasher, and a worker came and looked at everything, but he forgot to reconnect the drain pipe to garbage disposal.... Then, my kitchen area was flooded. I called the company but was told that there is nothing that they can do since I requested the service through a homeowner insurance. They don't even try to investigate or address the liability. I used Smart Appliance thru First American Home Warranty to claim for my washing machine. The only downside with this claim is the process flow from the insurance company. The turn around time takes way too long. Our washing machine could have been fixed after the second visit. But that's the insurance side. My home warranty company, FAHW, sent them out to repair my hydronic AC system. They are so dishonest and tried to upsell the required work. Their report to the home warranty company states my system needs to upgrade and install a "misssing" water level valve that caused the leak, which is not covered by the home warranty. Their quote to me for the repair and the recommended upgrades lists the water level valve as the cause for the leak and should be repaired. They wont properly report to the home warranty company so they can upsell the job. SOOOO DISHONEST. Oscar from Smartchoice keeps calling to have me agree to upgrade the job. I asked why they wont report to the home warranty properly. He said "... you have to upgrade in order to repair...", basically admitting there is a necessary repair that they report as a missing part. Very dishonest. I would rate zero stars if possible. read more

Unfortunately, Vitaly our technician, created a record saying that it was my fault for not maintaining my refrigerator, please be advised that you actually have to have your working refrigerator maintained regularly for your warranty to be approved, and failed to provide the report to me personally, told me it could be many reasons and that the problem I am having is common for LG fridges. It seemed like the warranty company and the service company are working together, run around and lies and very rude. My fridge just stopped holding temp! Power is on, no tripped breakers. I called the landlord and because it is under that American Home warranty thing they sent out their go-to guys from SmartChoice. He also looked at our dryer that when I would open it mid-cycle the drum continued to turn both were quick fixes for him. And I couldn't be more pleased with the service provided. I submitted a request for a quote for a repair on a Samsung refrigerator on Sunday, 6/12/2022 not expecting anyone to respond until Monday. The request was actually for another company but Yelp automatically added 4 more vendors to the requests. With in 10 minutes, I received a response from SmartChoice asking if I'd like to schedule an appointment the next day. I suspected it's an automated response/scheduler and that's fine. The appointment was for Monday, 6/13/2022 at 2:00PM - 5:00PM. Bogdan showed up around 3:30PM. He was very polite and even removed his shoes upon entering without me asking. I wasn't going to ask him to but I think he could see we take our outside shoes off at home. I appreciated it. After describing to him that the refrigerator leaks water to the space under the vegetable/meat compartment. He said it was a common problem for Samsung and went to work right away. He needed to clear out the refrigerator to get to the panel to fix it. We worked together and got things out quite quickly. Next was to remove the shelvings. The bottom one just above the filter was particularly difficult to remove. Normally you would just press on the two tabs and the shelve would disengage but this one was stuck. He patiently worked it and after about 10-15 minutes, he finally got it out. He was very patient in explaining what he was doing and why. At the end of the job, he made sure he cleaned up the space. It's been 3 days and what a difference it's made! The refrigerator is a lot colder and no more leaks! Bogdan also gave us tips on how to upkeep the refrigerator to avoid it getting clogged. I had a problem with my dishwasher where it wasn't draining properly. I had called a plumber a few months ago to address the same issue, but he took a look and told me that there was something wrong with a component of my dishwasher so I should just replace the entire dishwasher. Flash forward a few months where I remembered I had purchased a home warranty, which included dishwasher repair. My warranty company sent out SmartChoice appliance, and a man named Amir came to take a look. He was really friendly, respectful, and quick! Within 10-20 minutes, he had fixed my dishwasher and took photos to show me that the problem was just with my hose connection coming loose in the back, while also explaining to me how he knew that would be the issue due to some tests he ran. Now I've been using my dishwasher frequently and haven't had any issues! Even if I decide not to move forward with my warranty company next year, I'll be sure to call up SmartChoice and Amir for any other issues that come up! :) read more

I believe his name was Dmitrov, but he came today with another technician to fix my dishwasher, which I thought would be unrepairable at this point. Our dishwasher has a very tight space and it's nearly impossible to get out, but Dmitrov and the other technician were able to make it happen. A previous technician tried and misaligned the dishwasher door too trying to pull it out, and Dmitrov was able to fix it. He even got the dishwasher working again! Usually the companies that come through American Home Shield home warranty suck, so I was pleasantly surprised when this appliance company came out and fixed the freezer side of my refrigerator when 4 other companies failed, including one previously from the home warranty (AG Appliance, you suck). They did the most professional follow-through I experienced through the normally sucky home warranty. They also fixed my refrigerator light bulb. I guess it helped I filed a regulatory complaint against the American Home Shield home warranty. The home warranty's PLUMBERS absolutely suck, don't use them, they will cause more problems or try to charge you for things not covered just to make more money. But this is the one quality company that came through the home warranty. read more

They repaired our mini split on a Thursday ( after waiting for a part we had to pay out of pocket for) ) By the following Monday the unit stopped working again. The technician came out Tuesday and couldn't figure out the issue after 2 hours. At this point we haven't had heat for a month. My dryer is pretty old and it wasn't drying. Apparently, the dryer heats and tumbles but needed Maintenance. Lint was causing bad ventilation. Of course Maintenance was not covered but needed it. Had a very difficult time working with our terrible home warranty (First American Home Warranty) company. After three different low tier vendors who took months to respond and constantly told us they didn't have the right parts we were ready to give up. Peter from SmartChoice changed that and made our day. What took other vendors 6 months to come in and fix, always late and never communicative- Peter did the opposite. Peter came in, diagnosed the issue, ordered the part, got the approval, and was back within 10 days. He took his time to explain what he was going to do, did what he said, and explained anything that was different. He also recommended a few ways for us to maintain our appliances. Really thankful for the quick and easy communication he and his dispatcher consistently provided. He also double checked his work to make sure after replacing the control board on our dishwasher that it wouldn't leak by test running it.
